[JAWS-Users] focusing on buttons

2013-03-12 Thread Karen Schrade
I've had a similar problem to the one Miriam is having. If I go to the AT&T
website to check mail, every time I hit the link for "spam", it takes me to
"create a new folder". I can only get to the spam folder using the jaws
cursor. Then, to empty the spam folder, I have to go back to the jaws cursor
since, using the virtual cursor on "empty the spam folder", it sends me to
the sent folder.

There are several other websites with buttons rather than links that give me
grief as well. It seems to be a focus thing since jaws reads a and I'm
really on b. karen

I have noticed focus issues on web pages with the last few versions of
JAWS. You click on a link or control, only to see that another link or
control was activated, or nothing happens at all.

Lol, and here I thought it only happened to me.

I was wondering which version of jaws is this not happening with?

Yup, it has been doing that since at least Jaws 13. Very frustrating.

You need to go into the links list to make sure it focuses correctly.

I find the same experience. I to use the link list JawsKey+F7 to get focus to
the link I am trying to activate otherwise it it really hit and miss.

Re: [JAWS-Users] focusing on buttons

2013-03-12 Thread Lisa belville
Oh, I feel better, I thought it was just me and my antiquated JAWS 10 using
IE 8. This is particularly bad on the schwans.com site, and sometimes even
bringing up a list of links and pressing enter to activate the link that way
doesn't solve the issue. If I try moving to the link instead, the cursor is
actually one or two lines above the link, which explains why I was always
going to other parts of the site totally unrelated to what I was clicking
on. I usually refresh the screen and then move the virtual cursor right to
the place where the link starts and then either left click or press enter.
it's still hit and miss, though.

Honestly, the only way to avoid this is to use another screen reader which
won't be mentioned.
