Re: [JAWS-Users] Help with Avast V5 and Jaws
Hi Elaine, You can download free Microsoft Security Essentials directly from the web site below. Under the heading, "First Look: Microsoft Security Essentials Impresses", select one of the three links corresponding to your OS: XP 32 bit, Vista/7 32 bit or Vista/7 64 bit. Your download will start immediately. Installation and set up are simple and straightforward, and there are no special configuration issues to deal with like with Avast. Best of all, MSE is totally JAWS accessible and has been ranked among the best anti-virus programs at malware detection in recent tests. http://arstechnica.com/microsoft/news/2009/09/first-look-microsoft-security-essentials-impresses.ars Gerald - Original Message - From: "Elaine" To: Sent: Monday, February 22, 2010 5:12 AM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Help with Avast V5 and Jaws hi yeah, beginning to see that. ok, will go search for MS essentials. does anyone have a direct link for Microsoft essentials, please? thanks Elaine - Original Message - From: "Stanley Smith" To: Sent: Monday, February 22, 2010 3:41 AM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Help with Avast V5 and Jaws Hi, hate to tell you this, but the new Avast V5 Free Edition is not accessible at all with Jaws for the most part. Most of us have switched over to Microsoft Security Essentials which is quite accessible with Jaws. I heard that Alwil Software is working on a version of Avast that is blind friendly, so we shall see what becomes of that. [JAWS-Users] Help with Avast V5 and Jaws
Hi guys my apologies if this question has been asked before, I've recently upgraded to Avast V 5 and am running jaws V9. I was able before the upgrade to use avast after changes had been made to the GUI. unfortunately I cant appear to change any options within this version of avast. jaws cant see the window and is very limited when trying to read the page with the jaws cursor. I can see some links I think they are for various options such as changing graphical mode for example, but I cant appear to get to it. does anyone know if it can be altered to allow me to use the program? or is it time to go find an alternative anti virus that will work with jaws. any help or advice would be appreciated. thanks in advance Elaine For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/
Re: [JAWS-Users] help with Avast
It's doable, but it will require use of the Jaws cursor. 1. right-click on the Avast icon in the system tray. 2. Click On-access protection Control 3. Use the Jaws cursor to select Internet Mail. 4. Tab and activate the Details button. 5. Tab and activate the Customize button. 6. Use the Jaws cursor to select the SMTP tab. 7. Enable the "Insert a note into a clean message" check box. 8. Tab and select the OK button on this window and the next window. 9. All done. - Original Message - From: "miss cottoncandy" To: Sent: Wednesday, October 07, 2009 8:59 PM Subject: [JAWS-Users] help with Avast Hi all I am trying to find out how to get the email scanner in avast to tell me when it checks a message, like when I send a message to the list shouldn't it tell me the message was checked by Avast when I go back and look at the message after it has posted to the list. can some one help me with this please and thanks miss cottoncandy For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/ For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/

Hi, No, it scans email by default, not all antivirus programs put in such messages at the end of email.
