You will have accessability problems with Avast. Plus, if you ever want to
uninstall it, you will most likely have to use a third party tool to get
the job done.

Did Avast get their accessibility issues corrected because for a while it

Dear friend, yes definetly it is better than windows defender because
Windows definder is the improve version of Microsoft security essencial
(MSE).
As we know very well that in modern days of anti-virus world MSE was never

Hello Gang:
Well, like most things, there is a wide range of views. I have a friend,
who uses Avast. He thinks highly of it.
An earlier post said that the paid version of AVG was accessible. Glad to
hear it for that person. I have the paid version of AVG, and don't really
find it very accessible.
For example, I can't figure out how to change the scan settings, even
though there exist a button for it under scan options. Also, if I arrow all
the way to the top or bottom of the page, JAWS goes silent.
A friend set up the schedule. I don't know how to determine when the last
scan occurred.
The only "voluntary" information I get from AVG is that "you are
protected."
So, I don't know whether the inaccessibility is due to JAWS, AVG, or me.
Have a great day. Thanks. Neil

There definitely was a learning curve with the latest versions of AVG that
involves clicking on the buttons for the various categories and it appears
to go to different screens. I find that I have to use the JAWS cursor a lot
to get it to read details and on some occasions I have to use the Convenient
OCR feature of JAWS to get it focuseed. The other program that I used for a
while as a trial when I got a new computer was McAfee Livesafe. it worked
well with JAWS and I was satisfied with the effectiveness of the program.

Re: [JAWS-Users] is Avast! better than windows defender?

2015-10-22 Thread John Justice
Charles,
I started using the free version of Avast about 7 months ago. The interface
isn't perfect by any means but the latest version is quite navigable. I
have been tempted to upgrade to the paid version since the one I am
currently using is excellent. For a while, I was using Microsoft Essentials
but I had several problems involving Internet Explorer corruption.
after I ran the free Avast, those problems went away.
You may find it necessary to navigate the interface with your Jaws cursor
rather than the system cursor. However, in the latest version, updated on
the 21st of October, if you use your Jaws cursor to click on Scan, an easily
navigable list comes up and you can choose what you'd like to do. One of
the options is something called Smart Scan. This is a combination of a
quick scan and a review of your software. If anything requires updating,
Avast will give you that option.
