Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws activating wrong link why?

2015-11-22 Thread Steve
I've experienced the same thing with IE11 and Jaws 16 on a Windows 7 PC. It's
not consistent, but occasionally, it will activate the link above where my
virtual cursor is.

I'm not sure if it's after the windows 10 update, or after I made changes in
the quick setting which I don't remember what the changes were; however,
here is the skinny.

Let's say there are two links I am passing by, about and contact us. I
click contact us and the about page opens.

The only way I can get the right link to launch is listing the links, tab to
move to link, then activate link. That is to much just to read a page lol,
thoughts?

Windows 10, jaws 16 and IE 11.

Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws activating wrong link why?

2015-11-19 Thread Rose Combs
I have noted this behavior since Jaws 16, very annoying especially if one is
using arrows while reading display, I read left-handed, long story, and am a
very dominant right-handed person. Tab key is on the left and that hand,
especially if trying to order something is often on the display. Jaws 17
can occasionally drive me mad when I hear "edit" and then start to type and
hear no ... present. Just have to get used to pressing enter first, or
using the tab key, or changing a setting which could make other things not
work as intended.
However, I have thought I was on an order link, display shows I am as well
as Eloquence, press enter and find myself in a totally different place,
sometimes unable to go page back, either get JAWS lockup and can't do
anything, or get a webpage error, and have to try to exit everything or just
turn off the computer.
Annoying to say the least, although in 17 I note the wrong link is less of a
problem than it was in 16.

I have encountered this behavior in Jaws for years. It happens to me more in

Firefox than IE, but it happens in both. The best way that I have found to
circumvent the problem is to TAB to the link and then activate it, instead
of navigating to the link with the cursor keys. When using FF, I always TAB
to a link before activating.

This has happened to me for a few JFW versions back. I can only imagine it
has to do with some sort of focus. Anyway, I've gotten in the habit of
tabbing once to make sure I'm on the correct link. This fixes it.

Kimsan,

Regarding recent changes, you can do a jaws key and the
number 6 on top row and go to bottom of tree to see last 25
changes you made with jaws.

I generally use the spacebar rather than the enter key to activate links
and buttons. I think the enter key focuses on the default element rather
than the focused control in certain situations. for stubborn links where
no strategies seem to work, I'll press the applications key or the right
click to see if the first item is open, which entering will activate the
link.

Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws activating wrong link why?

2015-11-18 Thread Robin Frost

Hi,
I can confirm this behavior. It's happened a few times to me recently on
Amazon.com. I was on the your orders link. It verbalized your orders but
somehow after entering on what verbalized as your orders I ended up on a
page for sellers on amazon. thank goodness for alt left arrow. I could
reproduce this at will so I think I can safely say it wasn't user error in
this case.
As for its cause or solution such still escapes me but I can indeed confirm
the behavior you report.
I know it isn't a solution but sometimes knowing that an anomaly isn't
unique to you and your set up can bring a bit of solace.

Robin
