[JAWS-Users] question about a keystroke

2007-11-21 Thread Matthew Shaw
Hello all. I have a question about changing a keystroke, if possible. In jaws
seven, the keystroke for announcing the last person to sign into yahoo
messenger, aim messenger, and msn messenger was alt shift f10, f11, and f12,
respectively. In jaws eight, this keystroke is control scroll lock f10, f11, or
f12, respectively. I'd like to know how to change the new keystrokes back to
the old ones, if possible. The reason is that I'm using a laptop with a
function key that you have to press with numlock and any of the three keys to
get the last announcement info. For example, if I wanted to find out who last
signed into msn, I'd have to press control, function scroll lock and f12.
However, when I do this, my laptop goes into standby mode, due to the fact that
function f12 is the hotkey for standby mode. So this is why I'd like to see if
I can change the keystrokes back to their old values, or if anyone could tell
me how to disable the function f12 hotkey. Either would work. Any
 help is appreciated. thanks.

If you got anymore shortcut keys please let me know.
I have Yahoo 7.5 on one computer and 8 on another one, and MSN.

Re: [JAWS-Users] question about a keystroke

2007-11-21 Thread Denny Huff
The only other suggestion I would have is to do a find for that keystroke.
While in the list of keyboard commands for that application, do a control f
and perform the keystroke for the function you want to find.
For example, you can do a control f and then do your control scroll lock f10
and then press enter.
That should take you to your function for that keystroke.
Not sure what to tell you about the control scroll lock f12 since that will
put your laptop in standby.
Perhaps it won't do that since you are in the find mode, but you will just
have to try it.

hello Denny,
thanks for your suggestions. I did what you said, but I couldn't find the
script that performed the last sign in function. I'm not sure if I just
don't know what its called, or if fs encoded it somehow in jaws so it can't
be changed. If you have any other suggestions, I'd greatly appreciate them.
thanks again for your help.

 Matthew,
You can assign a keystroke by opening the
application you want the
 keystroke
assigned in, then do an insert f2.
This will open the Jaws manager group and you will
want to type the letter
 K
for the keyboard manager and then press enter.
You will be in a list of applications at that point
and you should be on
 the
name of the application you have open.
Tab one time and you will have a list of keyboard
commands for that
 application.
Arrow down until you find the function you want to
add a keystroke for.
Next do a control a to add a keystroke and then
perform the keystroke you
want to assign to that function.
For example if you want the alt shift f10 to perform
that function, then
actually press your alt shift f10 keys.
Next tab to OK and press enter.
You will be asked if you are sure if you want to
modify this keystroke, so
 just press enter on yes.
Do an alt f4 to close the keyboard manager.
 HTH
