[JAWS-Users] start screen

2014-12-06 Thread anna vimini

Hi Joseph,
Thanks but I still did not find it.
and I also noticed that when I type a few letters in the search box Jaws
use to say no apts matching your search and now since I have windows 8.1
it does not do that anymore would you have any ideas how to get it to do
it again

I am using windows 8.1 and jaws 15latest
Thank you in advance
[JAWS-Users] start screen in windows 8.1
Hi Adam,

Joseph writing off list from JAWS-Users list. Smile.

I wouldn't spend too much time worrying about what is or is not on the
Windows 8 start screen.

If you use the Start screen search box, I'm very confident you will find
messaging and your calendar much, much faster than manually trying to find
it on the start screen.

Remember, you need only press the Windows key then begin typing what it is
you're seeking. After typing a few characters, simply down arrow through
the

list of results.

Compare searching using the Start screen search box verses wandering around
the start screen looking for the respective tiles.

Joseph the free tech guy!
All are welcome to write me off list if absolutely any help is needed

Hi all
I hope it is OK to ask this here. I am using Jaws and recently bought my
Windows 8.1 machine. I had my local tech guy help set things up. He put all
the things I normally use like Word, Outlook, Internet etc. on the desktop
and told me not to go near the start screen as it is not accessible. He
knows a little about Jaws but not a lot. Seeing mention of the weather app
caused me to have a bit of a look around on the start screen and I wonder
how accessible it is with Jaws as I'd like to be making use of it if some
things are accessible. I'm not sure where to start though. I found weather
bug as the weather had been mentioned here and got through an agreement for
its use but it lands on Auckland our main city and I can't tell if you can
change where it looks. I'm sure you can so wondered if anyone has any tips
about using things on the start screen if it is in fact usable. Can we also
use the touch feature on the screen itself? If this is too broad to be
asking on this list just tell me and I'll ask elsewhere. As I am using Jaws
15 though I thought it should be OK to ask at least whether the start screen
is accessible even if that's all I can find out. I shall continue to play
with tabbing and arrowing around but am wondering if there are shortcuts.
Cheers
Paula.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Start screen in vista

2013-11-15 Thread Rick Justice
Hi Arianna,
On my Win7 systems the same thing occurs,it's just that the start button, is
where Jaws is focused.
I am not sure that you can change that behavior, it seems to me that it is
Jaws, not the computer.
I just alt tab, and the Jaws window gains the focus, since it is not running
in the system tray.
In earlier versions of Windows and Jaws, if I put Jaws in the system tray,
the focus would go to the desktop.
Just to clear up any confusion, we are talking about the start button, not a
start screen.

The computer goes to the start button and I have to press windows Key D or M
to go to the desktop. Is there any way to make the computer go directly to
the desktop without my having to use either of those commands?

Are you sure you have Vista on your machine? I have used Vista since 2008
and never came across a start screen like in Windows 8.

Do those instructions for having the computer go directly to the desktop on

Re: [JAWS-Users] Start screen in vista

2013-11-15 Thread Arianna
Yes, Rick, I realize it's the start button now. JAWS on my computers is in
the system tray because I don't like that JAWS window always being on the
screen. To each his own.

Since it can't be changed I'll just keep putting up with it.

Thanks for the clarification.
