Insert-numb pad 5 reads the contents of the cell.

Jaws simply reads the contents of that cell.

Is there any fix for this problem? Does the problem lies in Jaws

As I previously stated above, this problem does not occur in Jaws12.

Hi Ann,

want Jaws to speak the contents of cell A when I left arrow column A
as it does in Jaws12. This feature does not work in Jaws13 and I have
to do insert+numpad5 to hear the content. Just another unnecessary key stroke.

I'm not sure what the problem is. Using JAWS 13.0.638, if I arrow
from a2 to a1, JAWS reads a1. I don't remember, though, whether
earlier JAWS 13's read it or not.

Or is that what you were trying to do?

Re: [JAWS-Users] Excel: reading content of column A

2011-12-27 Thread Steve
Strange. I have Excel 2007 with Jaws 13 and it reads the cells
automatically as I navigate to them.

If you want to read the first second third cells in a column, you need to
turn tables mode on In jaws 13 with insert-spacebar then after you hear the
two quick bongs, press the letter t. Then, you can use alt-1-4 for columns
and control-1-4 for the first four cells of a row.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Excel: reading content of column A

2011-12-27 Thread Lennie

Hi Ann,

When I left or right arrow (move left or right with the arrow keys)
for each column, Jaws announced the contents of each cell as I move.
When I move right to left from column B to column A, column A is announced.

However, when I am already in column A, and I move to the left again
with the left arrow key, Jaws13 does not repeat the contents of the
cell as it did in Jaws12. Sometimes I do this because I forget what
column I am in and having Jaws speak that cell again refreshes my
memory what I am doing. Hell, half the time I do not know what I am
doing. I need to ask Mike to get me an appointment with Dr. Phil.

I hope that I explained this more clearly for you. I know that what I
am trying to say may be confusing, but if one is not aware of the
difference between Jaws12 and Jaws13 in this particular instance, one
may not understand what I am trying to say. Some time, I am wondering
if I understand it myself! (smile) Perhaps I should call FS?

Take care.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Excel: reading content of column A

2011-12-28 Thread Don Marang
The new behavior sounds like FS has fixed a bug. To me, the expected
behavior when using the left arrow when in column A should be not to
say anything. Repeating the contents would be confusing to me and not
provide any feedback that I was at the left edge. Otherwise, I might
think I had duplicate columns. An improvement I might suggest, is if
top and bottom edge sound indication is turned on, it might be nice to
provide the sound when at the left or right edge as well as top and
bottom. Currently. it makes no sound when at the top or left edge.
