Hi Annette,
When you have the pc cursor on the formula have you tried routing the Jaws
cursor to the pc cursor and then right arrowing across the formula. Just a
thought. I know that workds on reading numbers in a cell without having to
use the F2 key.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] JAWS17 Not Reading Information in Excel2010

Hi All,

I am using JAWS17 on a Windows7 machine with Excel2010. The problem I'm
about to describe did exist when using JAWS16, but if I was persistent, I
could eventually get JAWS to read the information I needed. Here is what is
going on.

. JAWS will only read a portion of my formula from the beginning to
some place in the middle. The formula is 179 characters plus 6 spaces. It
used to be that if I used various navigational commands inside the cell, I
could evidentially read the formula. Now with JAWS17, It is just not
happening.

. When setting up a custom sort I cannot get JAWS to read the
contents of the various drop down lists. It used to be that if I opened the
list, arrowed to where I thought the criteria was that I wanted, tab away
from the drop down list and then back to it, when I opened it the second
time I could hear what I has selected previously. If it was not what I
wanted I would repeat my game of roulette until I landed on my desired
choice. Now if I manage to get JAWS to read something, it continues to read
some random value from the list.

Is anyone else having these issues? Does anyone have any ideas for work
arounds? I hope to have time Friday to call FS, but in the meantime, it
would be really nice to be able to get this task off of my desk at work.

Thanks,

Annette

With recent versions of JAWS, on my Windows 7 pc, I have never been able to
have the sort dialog read properly in Excel 2010.
It is always hit and miss.

The JAWS cursor did not read anything more then with the PC cursor and the
arrow keys.

My work around today was

Use F2 to get into the formula in the cell
Select All and copy
Paste the cell contents into notepad
Make the corrections
Copy and paste the corrected formula back into the cell.

2016-03-25 Thread Annette Carr
The Window is maximized. I am beginning to wonder if the cell width has
anything to do with it, despite how crazy that sounds. The actual column is
not very wide as the results of the formula are no more than 3 digits, and I
think there is not a header wider than 6 characters. If this turns out to
be the problem, I'm in big trouble with my sighted co-workers. There are 15
columns of this data, and if each one has to accommodate an almost 200
character wide chunk it will be a very wide spreadsheet. Plus, I can't
imagine how a formula of that size would be able to fit on the screen as one
line of text. As you probably know, putting a check in the "wrap text"
checkbox does not impact the cell as the formula level.

Yes, it appears that focus is still in the middle of the spreadsheet and not in

Fortunately, FS provided us two scripts that should help. List all formulas
shift jaws f and read formula jaws control f2 twice ( once just reads and twice
puts the formula into a buffer. )

When you say that FS has provided "us" with 2 scripts, are you referring to
a specific group of users, or all JAWS users?

So, if the formula is in a buffer, can you edit it?

The List all formulas scares me. The sheet I am working in currently has
over 3000 formulas.

I was not aware of an area above the grid for editing. I'm wondering if I
navigate there with the JAWS cursor and then route PC to JAWS, if I could
then read and edit the entire formula. Is there a command for jumping to
this area?

Hi All,

I just got around to calling FS Tech Support about the issues I am having in
Excel2010 with JAWS not reading the cell contents when using F2, and JAWS
not reading the various drop down lists in the Sort dialog box.

I was told that I am the only one who is experiencing this problem. They
cannot begin to assist me unless I am running the absolute most current
build of JAWS17 and I continue to have the problem. Since I cannot update
JAWS on my work computer, I will make sure my personal computer is fully
updated and see if the problem still exists.

For those of you who have stated that you are having the same issues, please
call it into FS.

Annette

I was not aware of an area above the grid for editing. I'm wondering if I
navigate there with the JAWS cursor and then route PC to JAWS, if I could
then read and edit the entire formula. Is there a command for jumping to
this area?

Yes, it appears that focus is still in the middle of the spreadsheet and not
in the editing field above the grid.
Fortunately, FS provided us two scripts that should help. List all formulas
shift jaws f and read formula jaws control f2 twice ( once just reads and
twice puts the formula into a buffer. )

Hi Annette,
I opened up a new Excel page and typed in some text in each cell. I did the
F2 key and it worked fine on my pc running the latest version of Jaws and
Excel 2010. If you open a new Excel and put something in the cells and then
try the F2 key does it work then? Just wondering if it is something to do

Yes, it appears that focus is still in the middle of the spreadsheet and not
in the editing field above the grid.
Fortunately, FS provided us two scripts that should help. List all formulas
shift jaws f and read formula jaws control f2 twice ( once just reads and
twice puts the formula into a buffer. )

Hi All,

Excel2010 with JAWS not reading the cell contents when using F2, and JAWS
not reading the various drop down lists in the Sort dialog box.

I was told that I am the only one who is experiencing this problem. They

2016-04-09 Thread Annette Carr
Hi,

If I have a small amount of information in a cell, JAWS will read the
information when I use F2. Since most of my formulas are over 100
characters long, that is when I find the problem. Sometimes I can use F2,
then Control+home to move to the beginning of the cell contents and read up
to a certain point. After that , JAWS just announces "blank". I can select
all, copy and paste into NotePad. Once the change has been made I select
all copy and paste back into the cell where I've deleted the previous
contents.

I'm also having problems with JAWS reading the drop down menus in the Sort
dialog box, and the drop down lists in my actual spreadsheet. I've updated
my JAWS to the latest build, now I just need to test it out with Excel.

Part of the problem with very long formulas is that JAWS is slow to catch up
with the cursor movement. Requires backing up a couple characters before
moving forward again, which makes reading or correcting a formula pretty
hard. This has been the standard behavior for several major revisions of
JAWS.

I recommend that you jump to the beginning, select all, copy, and paste into
notepad for reading and correcting, then paste back into the cell if changes
were made. Much faster that way.

Is there a command for jumping to
this area?

Part of the problem with very long formulas is that JAWS is slow to catch up

with the cursor movement. Requires backing up a couple characters before
moving forward again, which makes reading or correcting a formula pretty
hard. This has been the standard behavior for several major revisions of
JAWS.

I recommend that you jump to the beginning, select all, copy, and paste into

notepad for reading and correcting, then paste back into the cell if changes

were made. Much faster that way.

When formulas are that long, JAWS only reads up to a point for me as well. I

Yes, it appears that focus is still in the middle of the spreadsheet and not
in the editing field above the grid.
Fortunately, FS provided us two scripts that should help. List all formulas
shift jaws f and read formula jaws control f2 twice ( once just reads and
twice puts the formula into a buffer. )

Yes, it appears that focus is still in the middle of the spreadsheet and not
in the editing field above the grid.
Fortunately, FS provided us two scripts that should help. List all formulas
shift jaws f and read formula jaws control f2 twice ( once just reads and
twice puts the formula into a buffer. )

I have the same problem when I press f2 to change the info.
I just get a blank, but I know something is in that square, smile.

Annette

When you say that FS has provided "us" with 2 scripts, are you referring to
a specific group of users, or all JAWS users?

So, if the formula is in a buffer, can you edit it?

The List all formulas scares me. The sheet I am working in currently has
over 3000 formulas.

I was not aware of an area above the grid for editing. I'm wondering if I
navigate there with the JAWS cursor and then route PC to JAWS, if I could
then read and edit the entire formula. Is there a command for jumping to
this area?
