Good Evening all, Well first do some maintence like run your anti virus and run a difrag and do a restart. Go to the desktop and press J and press enter. Press the alt key and right arrow to help and then down arrow through all the menu options. There you'll find the authorizing, update etc. Your jaws 11 version should end with these numbers 476, if not upgraded it. Hi, Though always good suggestions, the maintenance suggestions below are mutually exclusive of symptoms described. Try unloading and reloading jaws as well as a reboot to see if that authorization prompt disappears though original author appears to have already tried this step. I think the only solution will end up being a call to FS tech support as you almost certainly ate through your allotted Jaws keys. You are given a set amount of authorization keys, and if you use all 3? of them within 3 months or 3 years, you will eventually have to call FS and have them reset your installation keys. Unfortunately, the process goes as follows... You will first have to call FS tech support and explain the problem to them: fs Tech Support (727) 803 8600 for jaws press 2. They will then ask you to call or they will transfer you to a second number which will help you authorize Jaws. the number is: (727) 803 8015. You could also try entering your 20-digit registration key character by character if it is not automatically presented to you. By stating disconnect my power supply do you mean you unplugged the desktop from the wall, or do you mean you had to disconnect the power supply unit it from your motherboard? If you disconnected from the wall then no problem. If you meant you disconnected it from your motherboard then this is a problem as each time you internally disconnect and reconnect your power supply, this may eat up your jaws licenses. This is a real headache as I had to go through this authorization key mess with Tech support and FS customer service--this-is-not-pleasant. It is time to insure you have a backup of all your important files, so please backup as it might turn out to be a bad hard drive preventing your computer from powering up. Hi Rick, Though your suggestion is true in the event one still has authorizations remaining, my solution was based on the probability that the person used up all authorization keys. Here is more info regarding my suggestion as well as the link where online product activation help can be found: Error 106 You may have used all of your available activation keys. To request that Freedom Scientific reset the number of activation keys you have available, complete and submit the Request for Product Activation Reset Form. Re: [JAWS-Users] Urgent, After Long Term Use Jaws Refusing to Authorize
Thanks Rick I did send in a request, like the rest of Freedom Scientific that won't help until business hours. Its lovely how we aren't supposed to experience any Jaws problems on the weekend. Joseph, I'd have said I turned it off if that is what I meant, I had the power supply disconnected and removed from the machine because it is experiencing problems. I/my tech is dealing with the basic computer issues, we were just rather taken aback when things were put together again (unfortunately temporarily) and Jaws pulled this out. I really do Not understand why disconnecting the mother board eats a key, ... and I'm really unimpressed. That said I had not used all three keys so this is adding insult to injury. Wouldn't be quite so bad if it hadn't happened on a Saturday. Anyway, thanks for the explanations. Re: [JAWS-Users] Urgent, After Long Term Use Jaws Refusing to Authorize
Regarding Jaws keys eaten up... it might be that your tech plugged in the Sata cables in different slots than their original locations for the same hardware, which changed the jaws authorization snapshot of your computer configuration in the process. Jaws will not require authorization if you change an optical drive or maybe even if you add a card reader because the SATA cable was not unplugged from the motherboard, but it looks like it will chew up a license if you add or change your ram configuration, if you change your hard drive of course, and if you change any other essential piece of hardware. You may already have the knowledge, but in the event that ou don't, please let me know and I'll help you shop around for a new power supply. Smile. Re: [JAWS-Users] Urgent, After Long Term Use Jaws Refusing to Authorize
I don't want to pile on or anything, but I too dislike this ILM system. I especially dislike that the person you have to call to reauthorize jaws via update of your license will ask you why you need the licenses then they take Note of this on their computers as if you are being tracked. It feels like you are asking your mommy for permission to use something for which you paid an immense amount of money. Smile. Tim, I am a hundred percent with you, and desperately wish I could let them pay! It truly adds insult to injury to have to pay the long distance charges. However, (least the last time I checked) they are not so kind as to offer a toll free number to Canadians. It really rubbed me the wrong way when the last time I spent about forty minutes playing tag with them and finally finding someone to help (he was really good) I found out that while I was racking up the U. S. long distance he was working a couple hours away from me in Toronto. No direct line there though. Joseph I'm with you, ... I won't repeat the rant I just gave to my poor long suffering tech (who's opinion of FS is equally unprintable, and I know, we are all supposed to pretend there a mag company on this list), but honestly there just can't be that many people out there who would want to pirate Jaws in the first place! Also they should make this stupidity of hard ware switches using up keys clear. When I was trained I was told you installed one on a machine, end of story. (Of course in those days you also got five not three.) I've told two techs to date both of whom had my ignorant reaction, but its already on the hard drive, why would disconnecting the power supply make a difference? Makes no sense! But then neither does a company with this many customers who doesn't offer tech support on the weekends! Even my tiny internet provider is open weekends, and they've got a staff of twenty, maybe.
