Hi Chris,
I have encountered this problem before.
It has happened with Quicken2001, and Jaws 6.2 on Windows XP Pro.
I never did find a solution.

Strange subject, I know, but I've been having this little problem with
the latest Jaws 14. Sometimes I'll go into k1000 or a webpage or
whatever, and most carefully select something like the amount of a bill
so I can go paste it into excel or quicken or whatever. Sometimes I get
the amount, other times I get the message of distance is 2. I just got
this and tried the insert-space then c to see what Jaws claims is in the
clipboard and it said distance is 2 case 1. Am I the only one getting
this? Has anyone else reported it? I'm tempted to do so, but I don't
know if I can make it happen on demand. The really weird thing this
time was that when I pasted the first time I got my amount, and the
second time I pasted I got this. It is like something aka Jaws is
playing with the clipboard contents at some point. I suspect Jaws,
because this particular frustration has yet to happen with NVDA or
Window-eyes.

My quicken is 2003, so maybe that is the common factor here, ancient
quicken. I guess I could break down and buy a newer version, maybe it

I did have the same problem once from a custom app to IE, we resolved the

HI
I believe that message is coming from some debugging code in the function
ComputeDistance in the JAWS Quicken 2003 scripts. It is also copied to the
clipboard which explains how it showed up when you pasted the amount into
Quicken. The Quicken 2003 scripts will be used for versions 2003 and
earlier.

Hi Chris,
Yes, you can edit the scripts, making sure to back them up first.
It would seem to me that if text was copied to the clipboard
prior to the script being active, then nothing else would be placed on the
clipboard.
If you open the Quicken script file,
and then look for:
ComputeDistance
you will find the related code.

Re: [JAWS-Users] distance is 2 case 1

2013-03-05 Thread inthaneelf
I'm wondering if the format that the item your cutting is in, is triggering
something in transition to (I think you said) excel when you paste it.

two maybe's here:
1. you can look at your control panel, (and wherever regional settings
are)and see if there might be a layout that would make a difference, mine is
all in American English and I haven't run into this on win 7, I think I did
a long time back in win ME and there were two factors one being this, how my
numeric's were set to display and item 2 below.

2. you might try setting the numeric data value of the column your pasting
into to dollars (or pounds sterling in your case I think) so that it knows
that even if it looks funky its money not distances or formula's.

control key and space bar
then apps key and f for format cells, (alternative is control key and the 1
on the numbers row)
and then select a category, sometimes just locking it as text in here can
make things work better.

and yes, I did see where you said it was mis copying it in jaws, this is why
I put the regional settings notes first, smile.

really do hope this helps,
inthane
