Re: [JAWS-Users] jump list in windows 7

2013-04-24 Thread jim

To open a Jump list for an item in the Taskbar:
•Focus on the item in the Taskbar
•Press the WINDOWS APPLICATION KEY (The key next to your right CTRL)
•Navigate the list of options with UP AND DOWN ARROW
•Press ENTER on an option to activate it or ESCAPE to close the menu

Items on the jump list can be permanently pinned to the Jump List. If there
is a document you access frequently, such a textbook you’re writing or a “to
do” list that you update daily, you can easily pin the item to the jump list
for the application.

To pin an item to the jump list, follow these steps:
•Open the Jump List and focus on the item you’d like to pin
•Open the Windows APPLICATION MENU for the item
•Press ENTER on “Pin to this list”
•The Item is pinned to your Jump List for easy access. The item remains
pinned until you remove it.After
pinning an item to a jump list, it is available at the top of the Jump List
menu.

To remove an item from the jump list, use the Windows Application Menu on
the pinned item:
•On the Jump List, focus on the pinned item and press the WINDOWS
APPLICATION KEY

•Press ENTER on “Unpin from this List”
•The item is removed from the pinned section of the Jump List

When multiple documents are open, you’ll also find an option in the Jump
List to “close all documents.” This feature closes all the documents
associated with an application in a quick and efficient manner.

Launching Items in the Taskbar
You can launch items from your Windows Taskbar with special keyboard
commands. Use the number row in conjunction with the WINDOWS KEY.

To launch the first item in the Taskbar, press WINDOWS KEY-1, the second
item is launched with WINDOWS KEY-2, etc…

Opening Jump Lists Via the Keyboard
You can open the jump list for an application in the Task Bar with WINDOWS
KEY-ALT-NUMBER KEY. To open the Jump List for the first item in your Task
Bar, press WINDOWS KEY-ALT-NUMBER ROW 1. To open the Jump List for the
second item in your task bar, press WINDOWS KEY-ALT-NUMBER ROW 2, etc…

Windows 7 no longer uses a recent documents option to locate documents you’ve
accessed on your computer. They have incorporated jump lists into the Task
Bar and Start Menu to provide easy access to documents. Jump lists provide
easy access to documents you’ve accessed in the past or may wish to access
in the future.

As described above, you can choose from a list of open documents when
focused on a Taskbar button. With Jump lists, you can choose from recently
opened documents or take other actions.

Jump Lists provide a number of options for an application. When you focus
on an application in which you’ve opened documents, press the WINDOWS
APPLICATION KEY to display the jump list.

Jump lists display documents on applications but also display other
applicable items for applications. In Windows Explorer, you’ll find drives
listed. In Outlook, you’ll find email related items listed.

It makes sense but I will need to review and digest this information to make
it part of my arsenal.

That way I can at least understand what those things are supposed to be.
Still probably not something I need for myself but then one can never be
sure until such time as they are understood.

Hi David:

thanks for the recording.

You asked the question, what are jump list?

Let me explain for example if you pin Microsoft word to the taskbar, and
then open an existing document and then close it.

go to the taskbar and right arrow across it till you come to the Microsoft
word icon, press the application key to see the jump list.

the document you just opened and closed will show up here in a list, you can
arrow down to it and press the applications key again and press the pin this
document to the jump list and it will pin it to the list for you.

this is a easy way to have automatic shortcuts to your most used programs,
folders, files, and websites.

Let's say that your Microsoft word is the fourth item on the task bar,
pressing windows key+4 will take you to the new document. However, pressing
windows key+ALT+4, will open the jump list of documents you have pinned
there, just up or down arrow to the document and press enter.

This is a cool shortcut to get to different things such as programs that you
have pinned to the taskbar.

You can do the same with IE

This is a cool shortcut to get to different things such as programs that you
have pinned to the taskbar.

You can do the same with IE, say it is the first item on the taskbar.

Press windows key+1, this will open IE.

However, pressing windows key+ALt+1, opens a recent jump list of websites,
just arrow down to the ones you use the most and press the applications key
and go to pin this website to this jump list and it will remain there.

So after you pin several favorite sites to the IE jump list.

Just press windows key+ALT+1, and the list of your favorite sites will be
there, just press enter on the one you want.

I hope this makes since to you.

Let me know if I can help...
