Do not visit that site. The real link
ispointing to another site which tries to install some (probably bad)
software.

There's a good chance this won't even get looked at with just
a stack trace, and something around 3.2 for the version.
Some more context is needed here (*something* to help
recreate it), along with EXACT JBoss version, OS/platform,
JDK, etc.

[JBoss-dev] Thread management

2003-06-05 Thread Andrew C. Oliver
I'm getting very close to needing to work on multi-threading the JMX SMTP
service for Jboss. My approach is to steal what I can from Apache JAMES,
though I've re-written a good part of it, ripped out all of the Avalon stuff
(even the Avalon folks whine that JAMES uses Avalon incorrectly, but then
again they whine about that for every existing use of Avalon). Its a 70-80%
rewrite, 10-20% refactor and 10-20% copy (though its mostly dumb stuff like
stream subclasses).

In doing this I've ripped out the Watchdog stuff and hence the
thread-management. I have my own crazy ideas for how threads should be
handled, but first I want to check to see if Jboss has some tried-and-true
generic thread management code lying around that I can use? Nothing jumped
out at me in perusing the sources. Any pointers would be much appreciated.

If enough caffeine finds me, I should have an alpha by JavaONE.

Thanks,

Andy

[JBoss-dev] Mort Bay Consulting joins Core Developers Network

2003-06-05 Thread Greg Wilkins
===
Open Letter: Mort Bay Consulting joins Core Developers Network
===
As most of you know, Mort Bay Consulting, has been involved with the
JBoss Project for well over 2 years as the developers of Jetty, the
open source HTTP/servlet container, and its integrators with JBoss.
We have also been involved with JBoss Group, the commercial entity,
as providers of Jetty and JBoss professional services.
Our experiences during this time have regrettably led us to conclude
that our commercial and personal apsirations would be better served
outside of the JBoss Group.
Therefore, we have decided to join the Core Developers Network
(http://www.coredevelopers.net), an open source services organization
whose business ethos aligns more closely with our own.
The Core Developers Network has been formed as a partnership of peers
with the guiding principles of openness, fairness and inclusivity.
Its charter is to provide a commercial infrastructure to enable open
source contributors to deliver their professional expertise to the
marketplace, independent of their contributions to open source projects.
Mort Bay will be using Core Developers Network as our preferred channel
for training, documentation and support services.
We want to emphasise that after joining Core Developers, we will continue
to provide the same responsive, high-quality technical support to the JBoss
project as we have always done. As ever, we wish it every success and
will do all that we can to strengthen and enhance that success. We will,
however, be drawing a clear distinction between our support for JBoss
the project and for JBoss Group, the commercial entity.
Sincerely,

Mort Bay Consulting Ltd

[JBoss-dev] [ jboss-Bugs-731359 ] Transaction termination and disassociation assumption

2003-06-05 Thread SourceForge.net
Bugs item #731359, was opened at 2003-05-02 14:06
Message generated for change (Settings changed) made by ejort
You can respond by visiting:
https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detailatid=376685aid=731359group_id=22866

Category: JBossMQ
Group: v3.2
Status: Closed
Resolution: Accepted
Priority: 5
Submitted By: Mark Little (marklittle)
Assigned to: Adrian Brock (ejort)
Summary: Transaction termination and disassociation assumption

Initial Comment:
The TransactionManagerStrategy inner class of
org.jboss.mq.pm.jdbc2.PersistenceManager uses a
javax.transaction.Transaction instance to terminate the
transaction. However, if a transaction is terminated in
this way, it doesn't have to affect the thread-to-
transaction association. So, if the terminating thread
has this transaction as it's current transaction then it'll
still be associated with it after commit/rollback returns,
even though the transaction is now dead. This can then
cause problems later on.

The fact that the JBoss transaction implementation
does to a thread-disassociation is not typical of other
transaction implementations, so it would probably be
better to call suspend after termination or use
TransactionManager.

Mark.

[JBoss-dev] [ jboss-Bugs-676533 ] Multistep IS NULL SQL incorrect

Summary: Multistep IS NULL SQL incorrect

Initial Comment:
With the commerce test schema, the EJB-QL query
SELECT OBJECT(l)
FROM LineItem l
WHERE l.order.billingAddress IS NULL

generates the SQL
SELECT DISTINCT t0_l.id
FROM LINEITEMEJB t0_l,
  ORDER_DATA t1_l_order
WHERE (t1_l_order.BILLING_ADDRESS IS NULL)
AND (t1_l_order.BILLING_ADDRESS=t1_l_order.id)

which results in an SQLException because there is no ID
column in ORDER_DATA but in reality it is just totally
messed up.

I have a similar situation with a 1-M.

Head looks like:

/**
 * The Entity bean represents a Style of piece of recorded
music.
 *
 * @author Rick Boykin
 * @version $Revision$
 *
 * @ejb:bean name=Style
 *   display-name=Style representing a musical style
 *   type=CMP
 *   cmp-version=2.x
 *   view-type=both
 *   jndi-name=StyleRemoteHome
 *   local-jndi-name=StyleLocalHome
 *   primkey-field=id
 *   schema=Style
 *   reentrant=true
 *
 * @ejb:pk class=java.lang.Integer generate=false
 *
 * @ejb:security-identity use-caller-identity=true
 *
 * @ejb:transaction type=Required
 *
 * @ejb:data-object
extends=com.epitome.wax.ejb.interfaces.AbstractData
 *  setdata=true
 *
 * @ejb:finder signature=java.util.Collection findAll()
 *
 * @ejb:finder signature=java.util.Collection findAllParents()
 *  query=SELECT OBJECT(style) FROM Style style WHERE

 *  result-type-mapping=Local
 *  unchecked=true
 *
 * @jboss:create-table create=true
 * @jboss:remove-table remove=false
 *
 **/

Applicable fields look like

/**
 * Retrieve the Style's Parent.
 *
 * @return Returns a StyleLocal representing the Parent
 * of this Style.
 *
 * @ejb:persistent-field
 * @ejb:interface-method view-type=local
 * @ejb:relation name=Style-Style role-
name=StyleHasParentStyle
 * @jboss:relation related-pk-field=id fk-column=id
 */
public abstract StyleLocal getParent();

/**
 * Set the Style's Parent.
 *
 * @param style The Parent of this Style.
 *
 */
public abstract void setParent( StyleLocal style );

/**

 *
 * @return Returns a StyleLocal Collection representing
the SubStyles
 * of this Style.
 *
 * @ejb:persistent-field

name=StyleHasSubStyles
 */
public abstract Collection getSubStyles();

/**
 * Set the Style's Parent.
 *
 * @param style The Parent of this Style.
 */
public abstract void setSubStyles( Collection styles );

I've tried several incarnations of the query.

EJB-QL: SELECT OBJECT(style) FROM Style style WHERE
style.id IS NOT NULL AND style.subStyles IS EMPTY

yelds...

SQL: SELECT DISTINCT t0_style.id FROM Style t0_style LEFT
JOIN Style t1_style_subStyles ON
t0_style.id=t1_style_subStyles.id WHERE t0_style.id IS NOT
NULL AND t1_style_subStyles.id IS NULL

And:

EJB-QL: SELECT OBJECT(style) FROM Style style WHERE
style.parent IS NULL

yields...

SQL: SELECT t0_style.id FROM Style t0_style WHERE
t0_style.id IS NULL

I'm using MySQLDS on jboss 3.2.1 - tomcat 4.x.x.

Message:

I suspect this bug to occur in other situations as well and not
strictly in this multi-step schema.

Here is the situation:
Given a EJB A, which builds a composite recursive
datastructure, something like:

setId(Long id) // The unique identifier of A
getId() : Long

setParent(A)
getParent() : A

setChildren(Collection ofAs)
getChildren() : Collection

If you want to query all A's, which do not have a parent:

SELECT OBJECT(a) FROM A a WHERE a.parent IS NULL

Executing this EJB-QL i always get an empty collection.

The SQL, which is generated is something like:

SELECT t0_a.id FROM A t0_a WHERE (t0_a.parent IS
NULL) AND (t0_a.parent=t0_a.id)

which is wrong in this case.

Re: [JBoss-dev] Thread management

2003-06-05 Thread David Jencks
What do you need? I'd rather avoid having 895 different thread pool
implementations for the 65 actual uses. The particular interface in the
work package is spec mandated, but that doesn't mean we can't have shared
infrastructure.

  Subject: [JBoss-dev] Thread management

  I'm getting very close to needing to work on multi-threading
  the JMX SMTP
  service for Jboss. My approach is to steal what I can from
  Apache JAMES,
  though I've re-written a good part of it, ripped out all of
  the Avalon stuff
  (even the Avalon folks whine that JAMES uses Avalon
  incorrectly, but then
  again they whine about that for every existing use of
  Avalon).  Its a 70-80%
  rewrite, 10-20% refactor and 10-20% copy (though its mostly
  dumb stuff like
  stream subclasses).

  In doing this I've ripped out the Watchdog stuff and hence the
  thread-management. I have my own crazy ideas for how threads
  should be
  handled, but first I want to check to see if Jboss has some
  tried-and-true
  generic thread management code lying around that I can use?
  Nothing jumped
  out at me in perusing the sources. Any pointers would be
  much appreciated.

  If enough caffeine finds me, I should have an alpha by JavaONE.

  Thanks,

  Andy

[JBoss-dev] [ jboss-Bugs-749348 ] ComponentSupport assumes component is not in top-level pkg

2003-06-05 Thread SourceForge.net
Bugs item #749348, was opened at 2003-06-05 16:10
Message generated for change (Tracker Item Submitted) made by Item Submitter
You can respond by visiting:
https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detailatid=376685aid=749348group_id=22866

Category: Nukes
Group: CVS HEAD
Status: Open
Resolution: None
Priority: 5
Submitted By: Tom Davies (tomdavies)
Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody)
Summary: ComponentSupport assumes component is not in top-level pkg

Initial Comment:
Line 80 of  org.jboss.nukes.component.ComponentSupport
throws a NullPointerException if the Block being loaded
is in the default package. Yes, this isn't something
one should want to do -- but it is exactly what I did
for my 'hello world' block!

   private String root =
getClass().getPackage().getName().replace('.', '/');

[JBoss-dev] Core Developers Network Announces Public Launch

2003-06-05 Thread Dain Sundstrom
Core Developers Network(TM) Announces Public Launch

We are pleased to announce the foundation of Core Developers Network, a
new services company supporting enterprise open source Java software.
Core Developers Network is a partnership of peers with the guiding
principles of integrity, openness, and fairness. Its charter is to
provide a commercial infrastructure to enable open source contributors
to deliver their professional expertise to the marketplace, independent
of their contributions to open source projects.

Many of our partners are core developers with cvs commit privileges on
the JBoss project, and this enables us to offer a wide range of
services geared towards the JBoss server, including professional
documentation, training and expert support.

The focus of Core Developers Network, however, is wider than just
JBoss, and we have partners with cvs commit privileges on other
projects including Jetty, Apache Jakarta, and XDoclet. Direct support
is available today for these projects, as well as 3rd party support for
several other Core Technologies (see www.coredevelopers.net for a full
listing).

We are committed to having the same level of involvement in our current
projects that we have had in the past. This means that we will
continue to work on the JBoss project itself. In addition, we will
continue to support the JBoss project via the jboss-development and
jboss-users mailing lists maintained by SourceForge.net, as well as any
other open public forum. Unfortunately, the forums on jboss.org are a
commercial venue for the JBoss Group LLC, and therefore we will not be
participating in them.

A few of our partners have offered support through the JBoss Group LLC
in the past, but for various reasons have concluded that their
professional aspirations would be better served outside of the JBoss
Group LLC. In order to ensure that customers previously supported by
our partners continue to receive the same level of high quality
support, Core Developers Network is offering these customers a limited
amount of free support during this transition period.

We want to emphasize that our partners will continue to provide the
same responsive, high-quality technical support as we have always done.
 The founding of Core Developers Network simply signals the natural
emergence of competition in the marketplace. We hope that broadening
the range of service options for open source projects will raise the
level of support available and lead to even greater adoption of these
Core Technologies.

Please look for us at JavaOne booth 1705!
