[JBoss-dev] [Benchmarking] - Possibly good tunig switches on JBoss
Hi, I am working on a project for comparing JBoss to SAP Netweaver using the SPECjAppServer2004 benchmark. Unfortunately allready at TxRate 6 our JBoss droduces 80% Load on the server and has response-times of over 10seconds. Its competitor only about produces half the load on the same system at this rate. If we compare BEAs response time of about 100ms to the 10seconds of JBoss this is a gigantic difference. At the moment we are trying to get the JRockit VM working. In previous JBoss 3.x tests response times were only 1/3 of the response times with the sun sdk. But even with 3 seconds response times the results are still far from good. The funny thing is that everything was fine at TxRate 3 (Good load and response times). Any Ideas of how I can reduce system load and response-times? Which are the parameters which could have an effect on this? I woud try them out. Thanks in advance, Christofer Dutz View the original post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bbop=viewtopicp=3855700#3855700 Reply to the post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bbop=postingmode=replyp=3855700 --- This SF.Net email is sponsored by: InterSystems CACHE FREE OODBMS DOWNLOAD - A multidimensional database that combines robust object and relational technologies, making it a perfect match for Java, C++,COM, XML, ODBC and JDBC. www.intersystems.com/match8 ___ JBoss-Development mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/jboss-development
[JBoss-dev] [Deployers on JBoss (Deployers/JBoss)] - Adding jars from ear-archive to the global classpath
Hi, as I read that I should post feature requests here, I will do so. When working with BEA I noticed a nice feature which wuld be cool, if it could be added to JBoss. An EAR can contain a directory containing jar-files. These jar-files are made globaly available to all other applications. Just as if they were copied into the configurations lib directory. This would make deploying applications a lot easier, since I wouldnt have to add all the client jars to each EAR that belong to my application. Just a thought ... till then I will add the clients to all EARs ... not nice, but it works. [JBoss-dev] [Developing the new POJO MicroKernel] - Simple XML deployer
I think I can start with the jbossXB mapping and a subset of the existing -service.xml and enhance this gradually? Something like: bean name=bla class=org.jboss.bla.Bla | constructor | arg type=java.lang.Stringvalue/arg | ... | /constructor | | attribute name=yadavalue/attribute | ... | demands ??? | /demands |... | supplies/ |... | /bean 1) Do we need to create subclasses of the org.jboss.metadata.pluings.AbstractXXX classes? If yes what's a suitable package for them? 2) What goes in Supplies? 3) Instead of Supplies/Demands wouldn't Provides/Depends be more consistent with what we have now? 4) What are we supposed to store in the AbstractFeatureMetadata map 5) Is the AbstractValueMetadata 'Object getValue()/setValue(Object)' really needed? Wouldn't be better for derived classes to provide a typed version, e.g. 'String getValue()' for StringValueMetadata 6) Do we need an .xsd or .dtd for the parsed xml? [JBoss-dev] [JBossCache] - JBossCache 1.1.1 released - bugfix for JBossCache used by Hi
I uploaded this to SourceForge. This is the version that will be shipped with the upcoming release of Hibernate, so no need to download it separately. The main reason is a bugfix for the situation where code on transaction commit (inside {before,after}Completion()) modified TreeCache within the same transaction. If you don't use Hibernate, the propability of running into this situation is highly unlikely. I suggest waiting for the 1.2 release due mid December. The branch created off of CVS head is BRANCH_JBOSSCACHE_1_1_1 if you want to check out the src code. Until now the only way of adding a resource of type java.net.URL was to explicity write it in to the jboss deployment descriptors. Scott wrote the jboss server code to bind the URL resource references to a jboss jndi name.. (as in the RFE above) but there wasn't an easy way to bind the actual URLs to those jndi names. Would appreciate it if this made it to RC2 The patch is against the jboss-4.0.1RC1-src Why do this? If you are OEMing your product on jboss then would be nice to keep system paths and external resources loosly coupled from the EAR file.. best way is to use a J2EE URL resource.. if these resources are bound in a service file (like all other resources) then they are easy to change with an installer say, or even at runtime... Tasks associated with this patch are welcome. Yours Phil PS. This functionality occurs when running servlets in a standalone instance of Tomcat. Apache specifies that the destory() method of all servlets running in the Tomcat container will be called on shutdown of Tomcat. Furthermore this method is required by all classes that are children of the HTTPServlet class in j2ee. I have noticed that this functionality is missing from JBossAS. The intention is to allow overrides of the descriptions from the BeanInfo classes, like XMBean allows descriptions to be specified and used in the management console. But the BeanInfo doesn't have this information at the moment. Feel free to add it if you like. Obviously, the reflective introspection can only generate a generic description. We will be adding the ability to specify this information, 1) From a specially named class like in the javabeans spec 2) From annotations anonymous wrote : | 5) Is the AbstractValueMetadata 'Object getValue()/setValue(Object)' really needed? Wouldn't be better for derived classes to provide a typed version, e.g. 'String getValue()' for StringValueMetadata | Yes, the Object mechanism is required. It allows programmatic instantiation of the metadata (e.g. from the deployers). From XML, you will obviously use the String versions with the property editor support, etc. But even with XML there will be occasions where you might want to create a DOM object rather than a string to pass XML as the attribute value. You cannot override the type of a return value in a subclass until java 5. anonymous wrote : | 6) Do we need an .xsd or .dtd for the parsed xml? | Yes, but mark it as experimental i.e. likely to change. [JBoss-dev] [ jboss-Bugs-1069579 ] Fully Functional Tomcat
Bugs item #1069579, was opened at 2004-11-19 11:44 Message generated for change (Settings changed) made by sjneworleans You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detailatid=376685aid=1069579group_id=22866 Category: JBossServer Group: v3.2 Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 8 Submitted By: SDJ (sjneworleans) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: Fully Functional Tomcat Initial Comment: On shutdown of the server, all servlets running inside Tomcat should execute their destroy() method. [JBoss-dev] [Developing the new POJO MicroKernel] - Re: Simple XML deployer
The other use of the featuremetadata is to provide metadata to each context. But I need to discuss this with Bill because he has two mechanisms for this: 1) getMetaData(...) 2) resolveAnnotation(...) The annotation approach is obviously superior because it is type checked, but we also need the mechanism to work in java1.4 Use cases, detyped approach: 1) ModelMBean descriptor | attribute name=BlahInitialValue |metadata domain=modelmbean type=cache-timeoutNEVER/metadata | /attribute | 2) Aspect context configuration | attribute name=BlahInitialValue |metadata domain=transaction type=demarcationRequired/metadata |metadata domain=authorization type=rolesadmin/metadata | /attribute | NOTE: The above xml is intended to express the idea, not specify how we are actually going to do it/use it. Remember, what we are configuring here using XML with be done programmatically by the other deployers (sar, aop, ejb, etc.). [JBoss-dev] [JBoss IDE (dev)] - Re: Step debugging JSP pages
I figured I'd mention a big thank you since I started this thread a while back. I recently moved my development team to Eclipse 3.x from the 2.x version because many of our useful plig-ins have been ported to the 3.x series by now -- and -- most importantly -- we can now easily step debug our JSPs with the JBossIDE. I tried it out. Seemed simple enough to setup/install/configure to run. Just had to remember to run the Ant script to move the tomcat5 service archive into the JBoss instance (we're using JBAS 3.2.3) and then turn on JSP compilation Support for the Eclipse project. Once again, THANKS! It looks like there is a bug in 4.0.0 that is triggered when auth-type is specified, and port-uri is not. Set port-uri in your port-component section to /* or any other url value. [JBoss-dev] [ jboss-Bugs-1067726 ] SecurityException in CallerIdentityLoginModule
Bugs item #1067726, was opened at 2004-11-16 16:02 Message generated for change (Comment added) made by starksm You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detailatid=376685aid=1067726group_id=22866 Category: JBossCX Group: v3.2 Status: Closed Resolution: Fixed Priority: 5 Submitted By: Ryan Rhodes (rrhodes) Assigned to: Scott M Stark (starksm) Summary: SecurityException in CallerIdentityLoginModule Initial Comment: The CallerIdentityLoginModule throws a SecurityException when it tries to get the login information from a web application. I have verified that it throws an Exception when SimpleServerLoginModule, DatabaseServerLoginModule, or my own custom login module are used for authentication of the web application. I'm using jboss v3.2.6 The real exception is a ClassCastException, but the caller login module is catching it and rethrowing SecurityException. On line 122 of CallerIdentityLoginModule, it has: password = (char[]) o; This needs to be changed to: String pass = (String) o; password = pass.toCharArray(); I'm uploading my file with the change. thanks, Ryan Rhodes -- Comment By: Scott M Stark (starksm) Date: 2004-11-19 15:05 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=175228 The problem here is propagation from the web tier to the jca layer. The web tier does use a String as the password form rather than the more correct char[] so the CallerIdentityLoginModule needs to be more flexible. This has been fixed for 3.2.7+. -- Comment By: Adrian Brock (ejort) Date: 2004-11-17 09:30 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=9459 The only way the login modules can affect the password is to update the shared state when useFirstPass password stacking is enabled and this is coupled with the ClientLoginModule. Login modules are used to validate the password not to set it (with the notable exception of the ClientLoginModule). From UsernamePasswordLoginModule: private char[] credential; ... sharedState.put(javax.security.auth.login.password, credential); I would suggest you post your config details here: http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bbop=viewforumf=49 and enabling TRACE logging for org.jboss.security maybe enlightening? -- Comment By: Ryan Rhodes (rrhodes) Date: 2004-11-17 09:02 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1160600 Yes, my understanding was that your PasswordCallback should be storing a char[], but the login is being performed by DatabaseServerLoginModule, and I have tested it with others... so, either this is a bug, or there is a bug in all login modules that extend UsernamePasswordLoginModule. This Exception happens before it ever gets to the JCA adapters login. This is between the original login and the caller identity login module. thanks, Ryan Rhodes -- Comment By: Adrian Brock (ejort) Date: 2004-11-17 08:03 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=9459 The credential should be a char[] not a String. cf javax.security.auth.callback.PasswordCallback You need to look at whatever is performing the login (not the login module), i.e. the javax.security.auth.callback.CallbackHandler implementation -- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detailatid=376685aid=1067726group_id=22866 --- This SF.Net email is sponsored by: InterSystems CACHE FREE OODBMS DOWNLOAD - A multidimensional database that combines robust object and relational technologies, making it a perfect match for Java, C++,COM, XML, ODBC and JDBC. www.intersystems.com/match8 ___ JBoss-Development mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/jboss-development

The funcitonality is required for certain government systems that require cleanup and interaction among processes on servlet shutdown. Pesticide class has to properties: id and name (with getter/setter methods). A META-INF/hibernate-service.xml is also provided. When deploying a HAR archive when JBoss runs, the deployment fails. The following Exception is thrown: net.sf.hibernate.PropertyNotFoundException: Could not find a setter for property name in class no.planteforsk.pvmdb.persistent.Pesticide However, when JBoss is restarted, the HAR deploys fine. The Exception is thrown in net.sf.hibernate.property.BasicPropertyAccessor, in the method getSetter. The cause of the exception is that no match between set method (setName) and property (name) is found in method setterMethod. I inserted a few debug outputs in BasicPropertyAccessor, and it turns out that when the HAR is deployed at runtime, the method setName in Pesticide is wrongly assumed to take no parameters, (methods[i].getParameterTypes().length returns 0). When jboss is restarted, and the deployment takes place on the same HAR file, setName is assumed to take 1 parameter, which of course is correct. I'm not sure if this is a Java error or a JBoss error, or even a Hibernate error, but maybe you do. It does concern JBoss, however. -- Comment By: Scott M Stark (starksm) Date: 2004-11-19 19:49 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=175228 Reopen with more details or an example. -- Comment By: Steve Ebersole (steveebersole) Date: 2004-10-26 09:04 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=525033 Unable to reproduce this issue running JDK 1.4.2_04 on a Windows XP box.
