Without the JSF Phase listeners, I can input and show japanese characters
correctly on utf-8 pages after installing facelets-1.1.11 for the seam package.
I recomend the newer versions of facelets.

 You now could use the JBoss Cache IDE 2.0 version of the ide contains more

 You could download the ide from main JBoss Eclipse IDE site:

[jboss-user] [JBoss jBPM] - Re: JBPM3 with tomcat

2006-09-04 Thread diwa_pv
hi,

Even i faced the same problem while deploying the 3.1 version of jbpm on
tomcat! but finally made it on tomcat.

My tomcat version was 5.x and used Oracle 9i as backend!

Here are the steps i followed to deploy 3.1 version of jbpm on tomcat.

Download jbpm-starters-kit-3.1.1 from Jboss site

Deploy jbpm-starters-kit-3.1.1\jbpm-server\server\jbpm\deploy\jbpm.war into
tomcat webapps.

Copy hibernate.cfg.xml from jbpm-starters-kit-3.1.1\jbpm\src\config.files to ur
jbpm-home/WEB-INF/classes/

Run ant task for creating database tables and data from
jbpm-starters-kit-3.1.1\jbpm\build.deploy.xml
( ant create.db ?buildfile build.deploy.xml)

Add few jars to lib folder of your application.

Start tomcat.

Start jbpm application.

thanks and regards
diwa

It's very hard to help if you don't post complete, working, code (both bean and

example of your problem where possible, Also truncating stack traces isn't
advised.

if you delete the ProcessInstance, all tasks connected to this one will be gone.

Or u retrieve the TIs with a similar query like that:

  | // all open tasks
  | private static final String FINDTASKINSTANCES = select ti
  | + from org.jbpm.taskmgmt.exe.TaskInstance as ti  +
where
  | +   ti.end is null  +   and ti.isCancelled = false;

u could probably get it from the loggin mechanism:
retrieve the right TaskEndLog; with getTaskInstance() u can get the TI.
Or u execute directly a HQL Query.
I am sure that u can also use the API to get the TIs, maybe:
processInstance.getTaskMgmtInstance().getTaskInstances()
(3.0.x)

[jboss-user] [JBoss Seam] - Step-by-step localization guide

2006-09-04 Thread nhpvti
You know, most of us in the world are natively speaking not English.
So I think that it would make sense to pre-configure Seam samples and seam-gen
to produce ready-to-localize applications. I spent last Friday by figuring out
how to fill this gap.

Here is my step-by-step localization guide compiled from different sources on
net:

1) add new supported locale
in .../WEB-INF/faces-config.xml for example:
locale-config
  |  default-localeen/default-locale
  |  supported-localeen/supported-locale
  |  supported-localede/supported-locale
  |  supported-localeru/supported-locale
  | /locale-config
  |
2) Create new messages files, in my example messages_de.properties and
messages_ru.properties
The 1st obstacle that should be considered here: property files should be UTF-8
encoded and transformed into ASCII by escaping UTF-8 characters (mix of ISO
char sets is not advisable in a multi-language web application).
Built-in Eclipse properties editor cannot handle this, so I've installed
Resource Bundle editor from
http://sourceforge.net/projects/eclipse-rbe/ (thank you guys for excellent
work!)
Alternatively you can use utility from JDK, e.g.:
native2ascii.exe -encoding utf-8 messages_ru.txt messages_ru.properties
3) Configure your code editors to use UTF-8.
For example in Eclipse 3.2 check settings under i.
Window-Preferences-General-Workspace-Text and ii.   Window-Preferences-Web
and XML-CSS Files, HTML Files, JSP Files, XML Files

4) In order to enable UTF-8 in input fields (the 2nd big obstacle) you will
need a phase listener (compensating bug in myfaces and(or) JSF components?)
that re-sets request char set to UTF-8.
To do this follow instructions found in
https://facelets.dev.java.net/servlets/ReadMsg?list=usersmsgNo=1403
(see also discussion here  http://www.jboss.com/?module=bbop=viewtopict=73369)

and activate the listener in the .../WEB-INF/faces-config.xml file, e.g.:
lifecycle
  |
phase-listenerorg.jboss.seam.jsf.SeamExtendedManagedPersistencePhaseListener/phase-listener
  | phase-listenercom.xxx.yyy.zzz.util.UTF8PhaseListener/phase-listener
  | /lifecycle

5) Set char set in template(s) to UTF-8:
meta http-equiv=Content-Type content=text/html; charset=UTF-8
pageEncoding=UTF-8 /

6) The last, MySQL specific, obstacle eaten much time to find out a solution:
force JDBC driver to use UTF-8, otherwise only ? characters will be saved in
the database. So extend JDBC url in a data source file, e.g.:
jndi-namemyDatasource/jndi-name
  |
connection-urljdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/mydb?useUnicode=truecharacterEncoding=utf8charactetrResultSets=utf8/connection-url
  | driver-classcom.mysql.jdbc.Driver/driver-class

7) Create database with default UTF-8 support, for example for MySQL:
CREATE DATABASE mydb DEFAULT CHARACTER SET utf8 COLLATE utf8_bin;
  |
Note: probably you have to change default tables type to InnoDB for
transactions support. You can do this by adding start parameter (or via MySQL
configuration file). On SuSE 9.2 this can look so:
in /etc/init.d/mysql.server:
$bindir/mysqld_safe --datadir=$datadir --default-table-type=innodb
--pid-file=$pid_file /dev/null 21

Ready, now you have your native language as static text, data input and
database output.

I hope this small contribution will save you a couple of hours.
And I hope that others in this forum will follow my example and share their
experience in more detail, not simply stating: I've solved the problem XYZ!

[jboss-user] [JBoss Seam] - Can you merge multiple annotations in one?

2006-09-04 Thread bfo81
Many of my beans are annotated like this:
@Stateful
  | @Scope(...)
  | @TransactionAttribute(TransactionAttributeType.NOT_SUPPORTED)
  | @Conversational(ifNotBegunOutcome=main)
  | @Name(...)

Is it possible to create a new annotation that encapsulates all those
annotations? e.g.
@MyBean(scope=CONVERSATION, name=whatever)
This would reduce the code lines slightly and there would be one source for
mistakes less (e.g. you won't accidently leave out one of the annotations
anymore). And you know the golden rule: Don't repeat yourself ;).

Didn't find something like that, and I'm absolutely unexperienced with creating
custom annotations. What do you think?

You can set this option in the web.xml file present at:
%JBOSS_HOME%/server/default/deploy/jbossweb-tomcat41.sar/META-INF directory.

In this web.xml you will find something like:

 !-- == Built In Servlet Definitions  --

--
  | !-- resources. It processes all requests that are not mapped to other

I have the same problem,but I want the current token continue,and the other
tokens end?
This is easier to do,but the other problem is that the taskInstances of the
ended token can not be automatically canceled.
Can I only manually do this?if I manually do this,I find both
taskInstance.cancel() and taskInstance.end() can not be used,because they will
call the related event and action.Only taskInstance.setEnd(Date) can use?

I think that should offer a method like cancel which only cancel task but not
to do related event and action.This is needed in the business.

[jboss-user] [Persistence, JBoss/CMP, Hibernate, Database] - Aggregate function in where clause (Criteria API)

2006-09-04 Thread shouab
I am using Criteria API. I want to use the Aggregate Functions like
Avg(),count() etc in the where clause i know its available through Projections
but projections used as the slect part of the query i want to use these
functions in where clause like
criteria.add(Restriction.eq(Projections.count(emp),5));

Is there any way to do that.

if the problem is not clear lets say i have two tables Employee and Address and
the relation between is one to many Employee have multiple Addresses so i want
to retrieve the employee who have 5 or more Addresses.

Code is like that.

Criteria criteria = session.createCriteria(Employee.class,emp);
  | criteria.setFetchMode(addresses,FetchMode.EAGER);
  | ProjectionList projList = Projections.projectionList();
  | projList.add(Projections.count(emp.addresses),NoOfOpp);
  | criteria.setProjection(projList);
  | criteria.add((Restrictions.ge(NoOfOpp,6)));
  | List list=criteria.list();
  |
  |

When i execute this it gives me NoOfOpp invalid identifier is any other way
round to accomplish the task.

[jboss-user] [JBoss Seam] - JBoss Rules problem (where else to post?)

2006-09-04 Thread galo.navarro
Sorry if this is not the appropiate forum but I can't find anything related to
JBoss Rules.

The examples from the livetrails work perfectly on standalone applications, now
I'm trying to get an example running on Jboss 4.0.4GA so I created a simple drl
file and an EJB that puts some objects in the working memory etc.

The EJB runs this code below normally, if I debug and inspect the working
memory I can see the rules are loaded (see below the code) and asserted objects
are saved. But, misteriously, when it executes fireAllRules nothing happens. No
errors shown anywhere. Am I missing something?

  | PackageBuilder builder = new PackageBuilder();
  | builder.addPackageFromDrl(new InputStreamReader(new
java.io.FileInputStream(D:\\noc.drl)));
  | RuleBase ruleBase = RuleBaseFactory.newRuleBase();
  | WorkingMemory workingMemory = ruleBase.newWorkingMemory();
  | if(this.nocs==null)
  |   this.listNoCs();
  | Iterator it=this.nocs.iterator();
  | while(it.hasNext())
  | workingMemory.assertObject(it.next());
  | System.out.println(Now you should see something:);
  | workingMemory.fireAllRules();
  |

  | #created on: 31-Aug-2006
  | package tal.noc.rules
  |
  | import tal.noc.entity.*;
  |
  | #list any import classes here.
  | #declare any global variables here
  |
  | rule NOC Id = than 1
  | when
  | noc : NOC(id=1);
  | then
  | System.out.println(Found with id eq/over 1);
  | end
  |
  | rule NOC Id than 1
  | when
  | noc : NOC(id1);
  | then
  | System.out.println(Found with id below 1);
  | end
  |

Another question, where should my .drl files be packaged for deployment?

Thanks

I can't help you with your problem (have you tried the mailing list linked off

but

have you looked at Seam's Drools support? It allows you to inject the working

[jboss-user] [JBoss Seam] - Re: Step-by-step localization guide

2006-09-04 Thread msteiner
In CVS version of Seam is SeamCharacterEncodingFilter class. This should make
UTF8PhaseListener obsolete (can someone confirm that?). You must put this in
web.xml:

filter
  | filter-nameCharacter Encoding/filter-name
  | filter-class
  | org.jboss.seam.servlet.SeamCharacterEncodingFilter
  | /filter-class
  | init-param
  | param-nameencoding/param-name
  | param-valueUTF-8/param-value
  | /init-param
  | init-param
  | param-nameoverrideClient/param-name
  | param-valuetrue/param-value
  | /init-param
  | /filter

[jboss-user] [JBoss Portal] - Re: Too many errors cant get JBoss Portal to work

2006-09-04 Thread endremr
I have tried to upgrade to both jbossws-1.0.2.GA and jbossws-1.0.3.GA without
no luck to remove the received timed out exceptions. I'm using JBoss 4.0.4.GA
and JBoss Portal 2.4.

It worked to remove the
$JBOSS_HOME/server/portal/deploy/jboss-portal.sar/portal-wsrp.sar. That's OK
since I don't need the service yet.

2006-09-04 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
The question is whether your clients send valid SOAP messages that conform to
the abstract contract in WSDL.

If JBossWS cannot process these valid messages or responds with an invalid
message, it would be bug.

Note, the axis based stack was a lot less accurate WRT validity of the
processed messages.

[jboss-user] [Clustering/JBoss] - jndi.properties

2006-09-04 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Hi guys,

I`m working in a cluster lab, where I have an ejb client and two ejb servers.
My ejb client and servers have a firewall among them. I´ve previously asked the
net administrators to enable traffic to and from ports 1100 (rmi), 1098,1099
and 444.
I´ve configured my jndi.properties to know the list of ejb servers, like below:
java.naming.factory.initial=org.jnp.interfaces.NamingContextFactory
java.naming.provider.url=jnp\://192.168.101.114\:1100,192.168.101.113\:1100
java.naming.factory.url.pkgs=org.jboss.naming:org.jnp.interfaces
~
When JBoss is booting, it stops in the message below.

09:20:52,611 WARN [NamingService] Context.PROVIDER_URL in server
jndi.properties, url=jnp://192.168.101.114:1100,192.168.101.113:1100

After some time, it logs the following error:

Root exception is java.rmi.RemoteException: Service unavailable.

My ejb servers´s JBoss are started and HA-JNDI is enabled by default in the
all configuration.

What could be wrong?

I´m using the release jboss-4.0.4.CR2

Anyone could help?

Thanks in advance.

i followed the exact ways discussed in one of the threads in our jboss forum

I tried adding the location of the jbpm-identity-3.1.2.jar file in
persistence.xml:

jta-data-sourcejava:/UMKDS/jta-data-source
jar-file../jbpm-identity-3.1.2.jar/jar-file

i even tried adding the class name directly

jta-data-sourcejava:/UMKDS/jta-data-source

Bith ways failed to solve the issue.

2006-09-04 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Whatever client you use, it must share the same abstract contract (i.e. the
server generated WSDL) It does not make sense to talk about a server side WSDl
*and* a client side WSDL.

Having said that, I know that .NET has issues or does not support rpc/literal.
Try document/literal.

[jboss-user] [Messaging, JMS JBossMQ] - How to limit JMS-MDB instance numbers in JBoss4.0.4?

2006-09-04 Thread kingofhawks
Hi ALL:
   I have modified relevant invoker-proxy-binding and container-configuration
about JMS
in server\default\conf\standardjboss.xml.
   But it seems not to work.I have a MDB like that:
   @MessageDriven
   public class MDBTest implements MessageListener{
  private static int count;
  pulbic MDBTest(){
System.out.println(count++);
}
public void onMessage(Message msg) {

}
   From the stand output ,the count indeed exceed the upper limit defined in
previous configuration file.
   Anyone could give some help with this issue?
Best Regards!

Now deploy the app and create an instance of it using the self portlet

Add the portlet instance to a page and try to view it in your browser
The following exception should occur

[jboss-user] [JBossWS] - Re: J2EE tutorial web services client throws

2006-09-04 Thread taciano
Thomas

I ran the WS tutorial exactly as described by the Getting Started guide. All
classpath entries are as defined by the scripts, I didn't change anything. The
JDK, JBoss and the tutorial were installed using the standard procedure. My
machine has no customization of the classpath.

My conclusion is that either the tutorial is not meant to be run using JDK 6.0
beta or the classpath must be customized for it to work. If one of these are
true, a think it would be worthy to include it on the tutorial text.

Regards,

[jboss-user] [JBoss jBPM] - Confused about variable and token association

2006-09-04 Thread mteira
Hello. I'm just starting with jBPM and doing some JUnits to test if I
understand how the thing works. I'm confused about how execution contexts and
variables are bound.

For example, I'm trying to setup a simple task with a fork node, the two
branches of the fork are implementing a loop with two nodes: One that
increments a variable and another one (a Condition node) where the value of
that variable is compared with a maximum value and so , choose a transition to
the previous node (the incrementer) or go to the join node.

My idea was to use variables binded to the execution context, and so, taking in
mind that any branch should use it's own token, I could share the same name for
the counter variable in the two branches without interaction. But what I get
is that it seems that the created variable is always bound to the root
execution context. At least, the nodes in the two branches seem to see the same
variable.

I try to use token bound variables using:
ContextInstance ci = executionContext.getContextInstance();
  | logger.debug(Executing under Token:  + executionContext.getToken());
  | ci.setVariable(varName, new Integer(0), executionContext.getToken());
  |

That log shows a different Token when executing from different branches, as:
DEBUG IncrementTokenVar : Executing under Token: Token(/to_incr1)
and
DEBUG IncrementTokenVar : Executing under Token: Token(/to_incr2)

But the log from VariableContainer always shows:
VariableContainer : update variable 'localCounter' in 'TokenVariableMap914f6a'
to value 'n'

Always showing 'TokenVariableMap914f6a' that I suppose is the root token
variable map.

I'm also confused because ContextInstance has a method:
public Object getLocalVariable(String name, Token token);

but there's not a complementary one as setLocalVariable or so.

What I'm doing wrong?

Regards.

This is how my ActionHandler for the increment nodes action looks:

  | public class IncrementTokenVar implements ActionHandler {
  | static private Logger logger =
Logger.getLogger(IncrementTokenVar.class);
  | private static final long serialVersionUID = 1L;
  | private String varName;
  | public void execute(ExecutionContext executionContext) throws Exception
{
  | ContextInstance ci = executionContext.getContextInstance();
  | logger.debug(Executing under Token:  +
executionContext.getToken());
  | if (!ci.hasVariable(varName, executionContext.getToken())) {
  | ci.setVariable(varName, new Integer(0),
executionContext.getToken());
  | }
  | Integer counter = (Integer) ci.getVariable(varName,
executionContext.getToken());
  | Integer increment = new Integer(counter.intValue() + 1);
  | ci.setVariable(varName, increment, executionContext.getToken());
  | }
  |
  | }
  |

And this is the process XML:

 do you have just the hibernate tools installed or also the rest of jobsside

I have only hibernate tools installed.

 Where you editing some xml while it were happening ?

It could be possible that I had a few editor windows (tabs) open with XML
files. but the second before the hang up of eclipse I wasn't on this editor
tab. so the answer would be, I had open XML editor tabs but i was not editing
them.

 ... unless the jdbc driver were having a hard time to connect to the db
 ..could this be the case ?

i don't think so. I'm currently using Apache Derby 10.1 Nature as a project
in eclipse (starting stopping the server from inside eclipse) - for testing
purposes - and using org.apache.derby.jdbc.ClientDriver driver. since the DB
is on the same box the connectivity shouldn't be a problem.

thanks for your feedback.

The lifecycle methods in EJB3 are defined through annotations - looks like
you'd like @PostRemove.

[jboss-user] [JBoss Seam] - Re: JBoss Rules problem (where else to post?)

2006-09-04 Thread dgallego
You shouldn't use an absolute path to load your rules.
Instead, use this method (extracted from Drools examples and modified).

  | public static RuleBase readRule(Class readerClass, String rulesFile, String
rulesDslFile) throws Exception
  | {
  | if (rulesFile == null)
  | return null;
  | PackageBuilder builder = new PackageBuilder();
  | Reader source = new
InputStreamReader(readerClass.getResourceAsStream(rulesFile));
  | if (rulesDslFile == null)
  | builder.addPackageFromDrl(source);
  | else
  | {
  | Reader dsl = new
InputStreamReader(readerClass.getResourceAsStream(rulesDslFile));
  | builder.addPackageFromDrl(source, dsl);
  | }
  | RuleBase ruleBase = RuleBaseFactory.newRuleBase();
  | Package pkg = builder.getPackage();
  | ruleBase.addPackage(pkg);
  | return ruleBase;
  | }
  |

[...]
  | RuleBase ruleBase = readRule(MyClass.class, rules.drl, null);
  | WorkingMemory wm = ruleBase.newWorkingMemory();
  |

Hope it helps.

[jboss-user] [EJB 3.0] - deleting objects in a Collection based OneToMany mapping

2006-09-04 Thread aberezin
I am using Jboss 4.0.4.ga and have a OneToMany like this

  @OneToMany(cascade = CascadeType.ALL, fetch = FetchType.EAGER, mappedBy =
order)
  public Collection getLineItems() {
return lineItems;
  }

On the other side, I have this:
  @ManyToOne
  @JoinColumn(name = order_id)
  public Order getOrder() {
return order;
  }

I persist an Order with one LineItem. I then clear the collection of LineItems
and repersist (actually call em.merge(Object) ) the Order.
Jboss doesnt appear to delete the underlying row in the LineItem table.

I cant understand from the docs if the cascade = CascadeType.ALL implies that
the contained objects should be deleted from the datastore when they are
removed from a Collection. The docs seem to indicate this is not done for a
ManyToMany bc it is not possible to know if the objects that are removed from a
collection are still referenced by another entity. However, it does seem that
in a OneToMany, JBOSS could know enough to delete the dependent entites from
the datastore.

Thanks for any help on this one.

I am having the same problem. For me, it seems that the freeze only happens
when saving the process definition (and CPU usage goes to 100%). I think this
problem occurred with 3.0.9 whereas 3.0.8 worked fine. I also have this problem
with the latest 3.0.11 release. Modifying something in the Graph and saving it
leads to 100% CPU usage for half a minute.

[jboss-user] [EJB 3.0] - Re: Detach entities - Obtaining a clear pojo

2006-09-04 Thread ALRubinger
Not sure if I'm necessarily understanding the issue but...

Most times we encounter a LazyInitilizationException when trying to iterate
over relationships outside the scope of the session/transaction; when sent to a
remote client, for example.

In these cases I like to call on a little utility method to ensure the
association's objects are stored in a Collection of type I dictate:

  | class PersistenceUtils
  |
  | /**
  | * Returns a Collection of all objects in the specified
persistentCollection
  | * without binding to any persistence context or session.
  |  *
  |  * @param T
  |  * @param targetCollection
  |  * @param persistentCollection
  |  * @return
  |  */
  | public static T CollectionT
getCollectionItemsRemovedFromPersistenceContext(
  | CollectionT targetCollection, CollectionT
persistentCollection) {
  | // If runtime type of persistentCollection is not
PersistentCollection,
  | // take no action
  | if (!(persistentCollection instanceof PersistentCollection))
  | return persistentCollection;
  |
  | // Clear existing target
  | targetCollection.clear();
  |
  | // Place all items in persistent collection into target
  | for (T item : persistentCollection) {
  | targetCollection.add(item);
  | }
  |
  | // Return target
  | return targetCollection;
  | }

...and I can easily call it by:

CollectionMyType associations = new ArrayListMyType();
  |
  | associations = PersistenceUtils
  |
.getCollectionItemsRemovedFromPersistenceContext(
  | associations,
  |
myAttachedObject.getAttachedAssociations());
  |

[jboss-user] [JBoss AOP] - change text with interceptors

2006-09-04 Thread sviluppatorefico
hihow I can automatically modify a parameter of 'set' methods? I thought to
use a configuration of this type:

?xml version=1.0 encoding=UTF-8 standalone=yes?
  | aop
  | interceptor class=segn.util.interceptor.TextFormatInterceptor
scope=PER_CLASS/
  | bind pointcut=call(public void
$instanceof{segn.util.model*}-gt;set*(java.lang.String))
  | interceptor-ref
name=segn.util.interceptor.TextFormatInterceptor/
  | /bind
  | /aop

and an interceptor of this type:

public class TextFormatInterceptor implements Interceptor {
  |public String getName() { return TextFormatInterceptor; }
  |
  |public Object invoke(Invocation invocation)
  |throws Throwable
  |{
  |   Object rsp = invocation.invokeNext();
  |   return rsp;
  |}
  | }

I have two question:

1- is it right to use an interceptor to format text of 'set' methods of a POJO?
2 - if yes, how I can to do it, seeing that the new
org.jboss.aop.joinpoint.Invocation class don't permit the access of info of
MethodInvocation?

Thank you!!. Now I have eclipse and jboss in the same machine and i can create
the jboss server under eclipse.
Now I want to create a botton-up web service strating from a java class and
deploy it to my Jboss server. How can i do this?

I know this couldn't be the correct place to post this, if that, my apologies.

I've tried with the WTP tutorial to create a botton-up web service but in the
wtp wizard when I select my JbossAS server the wizard complains saying this in
red: JBoss AS 4.0 does not support the Apache Axis Web service runtime. Choose
a different server or runtime to proceed through the Web services wizard.

Is JBossAS compatible with WTP to create a web service?

Another question:
Can I create and deploy a web service using jboss Eclipse ide?

Alright, now I understand what is going on. From the server log:

org.hibernate.ObjectNotFoundException: No row with the given identifier exists:
[org.jbpm.graph.exe.Token#192]

the problem is not your machine being slow. On the contrary, it is way faster
than mine :) It is receiving new inbound messages in the onMessage branches
while the transaction that executed the pick has not committed yet! There
is already a JIRA issue for this: BPEL-198.

The solution is upgrading to BPEL 1.1.Beta2, which will be released this week.
Thanks for providing your logs.

In SOAP over HTTP, one-way operations result in an empty HTTP response. The
Apache Xerces parser used by JBossWS emits that message to System.out when
given an empty source, but is otherwise harmless.

The related issue is JBWS-826.

Thank you for the idea, but maintenance question is still open in this case. Or
how are you going to populate this object with content: from a data base? Then
a custom-made CMS would be necessary to maintain texts in the database...
By the way content can require for example html to be included. Properties
files don't allow entering html according to my quick test.

So I would prefer simple ui:include tag:
div class=headerui:include
src=/WEB-INF/layout/header#{messages['application.fileSuffix']}.xhtml //div

Any concerns?

[jboss-user] [EJB 3.0] - How to efficiently page object with initialized collections

2006-09-04 Thread pmpm
Hi,

I have an entity bean with a collection of items.

  | @OneToMany(cascade = { CascadeType.ALL}, fetch = FetchType.LAZY, mappedBy
=invoice)
  | @BatchSize( size = 10)
  | public ListItem getItems()
  | {
  | return items;
  | }
  |

Everything works fine in everyday use. But ocassionaly I would like to perform
statistics, which is done through selecting all the entities and performing
operation on their items.

Because there is a large number of objects I have to page through them in order
to not to run out of memory. I made two attempts to solve this problems but
both are unefficient and my method timeouts.

First approach.

My query looks like:

  | select e from Example join fetch e.items where ...
  |

Then I page through the result set and make my computations on result objects:

  | int resIt = 0;
  | ListExample rl = null;
  | do
  | {
  |
  | rl = q.setMaxResults(
1000).setFirstResult(resIt).getResultList();
  |
  | for (Example e: (ListExample) rl)
  | {
  | //my code
  | }
  |
  | resIt += rl.size();
  | entityManager.clear();
  |
  | } while (rl.size()  0);
  |

But then I got a warning firstResult / maxResults specified with collection
fetch ; applying in memory. I uderstand that when collection is fetched,
Hibernate cannot use sql limit because number of rows is not equal to number
of objects, and in memory means additional selects.

Second approach.
I removed join fetch from query. But then items collection are fetched ( in
batch of 10) during computatins, which is also slow. I dont want to change the
value of batch in mapping.

Do you see any solution to my problem? Maybe there is a way to temporarily
increase the batch size of the collection (for the duration of my statistics
method)?

Thanks in advance
Pawel Miniewicz

[jboss-user] [Management, JMX/JBoss] - Class loader problem!

2006-09-04 Thread Doug.Palmer
Hi

I'm running into a class loading problem with a service that I'm developing.
The service builds war files from data in an xml document and then deploys asks
the main deployer to deploy the war file.

The following works in the create method my deployment MBean:

  | code to generate warfile
  | mainDeployer.deploy(warFile.getPath());
  |

However, this does not establish a connection between the original xml
deployment and the war file deployment. So I tried the following:

  | code to generate warfile
  | DeploymentInfo subDi = new DeploymentInfo(new URL(file:// +
outFile.getPath()), di, server);
  | mainDeployer.deploy(subDi);
  |

Now, when I try to connect to the newly create web service I get the following
exception:

  | java.lang.ClassCastException: decs2.pi.ProcessInitiatorImpl

Where decs2.pi.ProcessInitiatorImpl is the code the implements my service. The
class file for decs2.pi.ProcessInitiatorImpl resides in the jar file with my
MBean.

Does anyone know how to solve this class loading issue?

Regards
Doug

[jboss-user] [JBossWS] - Patient is more dead then alive? jax-rpc Handler that is.

2006-09-04 Thread Arno Werr
Hi gents,

Here we go. EJB3 with web service annotations

  | @WebService(name = Test, serviceName = TestService)
  | @WebServiceRef(name = service/TestService)
  | @HandlerChain(file = http://localhost/servers/jboss/handlers.xml;, name =
)
  | @Stateless
  | public class TestWebService implements TestSEI {
  | private Logger logger;
  |
  | @PostConstruct
  | public void postConstruct() {
  | logger = Logger.getLogger(getClass());
  | }
  |
  | @WebMethod
  | @Oneway
  | public void test(@WebParam(name = TEST)
  | String input) {
  | logger.debug(test() called with input:  + input);
  |
  | }
  | }
  |
Simple, hah? Note @HandlerChain(file =
http://localhost/servers/jboss/handlers.xml;, name = ) Any other protocol -
flat dead - FileNotFoundException. The same issue see:
http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bbop=viewtopict=85018

Handler
  | public class LoggingHandler extends GenericHandler {
  | private Logger logger = Logger.getLogger(getClass());
  |
  | public QName[] getHeaders() {
  | return null;
  | }
  |
  | public boolean handleRequest(MessageContext context) {
  | logger.debug(handleRequest()  + context);
  | SOAPMessageContext smc = (SOAPMessageContext) context;
  | SOAPMessage msg = smc.getMessage();
  |
  | try {
  | SOAPEnvelope envelope = msg.getSOAPPart().getEnvelope();
  | SOAPHeader header = envelope.getHeader();
  |
  | logger.debug(We are here );
  |
  | } catch (SOAPException e) {
  | throw new JAXRPCException(e);
  | }
  |return true;
  | }
  | }
  |
No brainer.
Now - handlers.xml

  | ?xml version=1.0 encoding=UTF-8?
  | jws:handler-config xmlns:jws=http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee;
  | jws:handler-chains
  | jws:handler-chain

  | /jws:handler-class
  | /jws:handler
  | /jws:handler-chain
  | /jws:handler-chains
  | /jws:handler-config
  |
It's there. I made sure I can get it from my browser
http://localhost/servers/jboss/handlers.xml.
Now, trying to deploy on JBoss

  | 13:40:26,736 INFO [Server] Release ID: JBoss [Zion] 4.0.4.GA (build:

[jboss-user] [EJB 3.0] - Re: Detach entities - Obtaining a clear pojo

2006-09-04 Thread fatbatman
I'm aware of why LazyInitilizationException's are thrown, and know I could do
something like you demonstrated. My point though is this, as I understand
things DTO's are no longer fashionable in EJB3 and entiy classes are POJO's
which can be populated, then moved between the application tiers. This works
fine unless you need to send the object to remote client, in which case you get
the issue mentioned above. You can of course do some kind of manual cloning,
but isn't doing such a thing very similar to creating a DTO albeit of the same
class?
Or you can create your own custom serialisation/encoding (perhaps using
something like XStream as mentioned by Gavin in the URL), but then are the
entities really POJO's if you have to do that?

I understand that hibernate needs to add some magic for it to operate, but I'm
requesting that there is some kind of method within Hibernate to return a
version of the entity (probably a specially constructed instance/clone) with
all traces of Hibernate removed.
The hibernate cleanser as discussed at
http://blog.murf.org/2005/04/06/lazy-loading-and-the-hibernate-cleanser/
proposes a similar thing but I couldn't find any source code.
Does anyone else thing this would be a useful function? or am I missing
something?
