[jboss-user] [JBoss jBPM] - Re: What does on BPM build content impact?
It seems there are a lot of bugs in open software. Or may this is trick to force client to buy a support? Ant build uses hibernate3.jar from jboss-4.0.4.GA/server/default/lib during build, but have it's own hibernate3.jar in jbpm-3.1/lib. The first one is of version 3.2.0., the last - 3.1. Why? In userguide (jbpm.pdf) mentioned jbpm must work with 3.1. So the question is again why build uses hibernate3.jar from jboss server distribution? If you create build.properties file in userhome why ant read it but ignore it? If you try to build an examples for bpel extension ant deploys them into default configuration not in jbpm, but these small fact not mentioned in manual. Some guys recommend to use web-console for testing result of deployment of samples, but it doesn't work in jbpm configuration. It seems it is not an easy task to place it into jbpm folder. And the problem with versioning in Java - it remains forever? The samples for JBOSS uses 1.4.2_x, for jbpel 1.5.x. JBPEL extension uses another type of license good this worse to mention in the readme or userguide, but how it prevents to build one starters-kit with all in one bundle including working samples. And the last there are a lot of configuration xml files in many folders. But from the guide is not clear which of them really works in what the case. Want to move to open source but how? [jboss-user] [JBossCache] - Re: Minimizing POJOCache impact on existing codebases
To answer your questions: 1. There are two ways to instrument your POJO: compile time (a la aopc) and load time (a la -javaagent option for special classloader). I believe Terracotta also uses the latter approach. 2. BTW, the proper PojoCache doc is under: [url]http://labs.jboss.com/file-access/default/members/jbosscache/freezone/docs/1.4.0/PojoCache/en/html/index.html[\url]. 3. If your POJO implements Serializable, then yes, it will fall back to the plain cache behavior. It is documented. I created a new bug report: http://jira.jboss.org/jira/browse/JBMESSAGING-542 and added a test that currently fails (MiscellaneousTest.testClosingConnectionFromMessageListener()) The solution you propose has a drawback, though. If we allow the listener to close the connection within onMessage(), then postDeliver() won't be able to pass by session's ClosedInterceptor, which now is "closed", so we'll get an ERROR "Failed to deliver message" in the logs. It's harmless, but ugly. It worked for one time and after that the loginContext.Login never worked again. I even reinstalled jboss nothing. I am sure I didn't changed nothing. Some how is using UserLoginModule instead the Database policy.I am stragling with this issue three days. I keep taking [UsersRolesLoginModule] Failed to load users/passwords/role files java.io.IOException: No properties file: users.properties or defaults: defaultUsers.properties found, but i do not use this when I say LoginContext("myPolicy", handler) In the forum I saw many postings with the exception: [UsersRolesLoginModule] Failed to load users/passwords/role files java.io.IOException: No properties file: users.properties or defaults: defaultUsers.properties found, but for different reasons. I think this is some kind a bug. Does anyone nows something? [jboss-user] [Tomcat, HTTPD, Servlets & JSP] - Sun's BluePrints Sample (Progress Bar with JSF and AJAX) sam
Hello everybody, I am trying to make Sun's Progress Bar with JSF and AJAX Sample (https://bpcatalog.dev.java.net/nonav/ajax/progress-bar-jsf/frames.html) run on JBoss but it fails to draw the progress bar and skips to the last page without reporting any errors. The problem appears to be related to Myfaces implementation of JSF, because when this sample is deployed to Tomcat I observe the same behavior. It appears that Myfaces library does not behave correctly when used with AJAX. I am using the default configuration of JBoss 4.0.4 and I have done all the steps required to run a JSF application on 4.0.4 version. Thanks for the help. [jboss-user] [JBoss Seam] - Questions on Seam's PAGE scope
It isn't clear how page scoped resources are cleaned up. They appear to survive multiple requests, however can be out of date and require a refresh() as indicated in the issues example ProjectFinderBean class. Is it possible to set a page scope timout so that resources can be cleaned up in addition to providing a way to schedule data refreshes without user interaction? The docs seem to imply that page scoped state is serialized back to the client, so maybe no data is being stored on the server. This might aliviate memory related issues, but having a declarative way to time out this "page cache" would seem beneficial. Am I missing a configuration option? An example use case might be a stock quote. A company may have an investors page that uses a third-party web service to lookup the company's stock price every 5 minutes. This request should only be made once every 5 minutes, users shouldn't be able to refresh, and it should be easy to implement. Seam + page scope + @Factory seems ideal here. If you can time out the data that is. After the time out, the factory method would be called again, and round you go. Agreed, docs can always be better. Although as far as OS projects go, these are pretty good. I did a quick search for PAGE scope and found that the issues example uses it. In particular the ProjectFinderBean. The usage and design pattern seem to fit my guess from a previous post. PAGE scope allows stateless controllers to outject and manipulate data relavant to a specific page (in this case a project search screen or something) across multiple requests. If this use case or Seam doemo doesn't work for you, start a new problem specific thread. [jboss-user] [JBossCache] - Minimizing POJOCache impact on existing codebases
Okay so I've gone through the examples and they contain nothing useful for the use case that I'm trying to build. I don't want to use aopc - EVER. How do I configure JBossCache to take POJOs in a regular application where I have created a cache without having to tie my build process to JBossCache? This documentation does not talk about adding objects at runtime to a cache: http://labs.jboss.com/file-access/default/members/jbosscache/freezone/docs/1.4.0/TreeCache/en/html_single/index.html I've seen references to PropertyConfigurator not needing to be defined as it will take defaults. What are the defaults? If I'm annotating a POJO, what else do I need to do to get it into the cache? The examples do not specify this without immediately falling into a variety of PropertyConfigurator information. If PropertyConfigurator setup required in order for us to get this stuff to use annotated POJOs? | package org.jboss.labs.jbosscache.model; | | | @org.jboss.cache.aop.annotation.PojoCacheable | public class Person | { | private String firstName; | private String lastName; | private Address address; | | public String getFirstName() | { | return firstName; | } | | public void setFirstName(String firstName) | { | this.firstName = firstName; | } | | public String getLastName() | { | return lastName; | } | | public void setLastName(String lastName) | { | this.lastName = lastName; | } | | public Address getAddress() | { | return address; | } | | public void setAddress(Address address) | { | this.address = address; | } | } | If its not as simple as putting this annotation there and running my application, why isn't it this simple or for that matter - why do I have to EVER annotate my POJOs at all? >From what I can tell we either have to use a special classloader so that JBC >can bootstrap the classes properly, create an aop file to define a pointcut >and annotate an object. Is there no approach where we can: 1) Not use a custom classloader 2) Have JBC annotate an entire object without having to go through the codebase and add annotations to everything (JBC can add/detect this annotation at runtime) 3) Not use aopc At the very least we shouldn't have to annotate the pojo. If you get a pojo and you can't treat it in an AOP manner wouldn't it be better to fallback to treecache as opposed to exploding with the fury of a stracktrace? I agree about the training, and we'll probably get going on that before too long. Please don't mistake my post for a complaint about Seam itself - the more I learn the better I like it. I was just thinking that the reference manual could use a little clarification in certain areas based on my fumbling around with the technology. Once I learned certain things (mentioned at the start of this thread), I found that if I re-read the manual a few times, I could sort of infer the conclusion that I reached the hard way. However, the requests I made in this post are to help clarify areas that I think could use clarity. [jboss-user] [JBoss Seam] - Re: Scope/Context feedback
The given Seam examples and documentation isn't PhD work, or even that complex. It does try and provide a complete example (non-trivial) and it does assume a certain foundation. In the case of your team, can I suggest some training. At least on JSF and Hibernate/JPA and then sprinkle in some EJB3 and Seam if available. I believe that JBoss offers training on all of these technologes. I have also had great experience with training from ArcMind. You should be able to get up to speed in about a week. The development team at my organization made a previous technology leap to the one you're making, and let me say that a week of on-site training (available for around $10-15k depending on size) was money very well spent. >From there I'd start learning how Seam improves upon what's currently >available in the JSF/EJB3/JPA technology stack. You'll see that @Factory and @Unwrap are not magic. And you'll see how Seam can allow for a tremendious line of code reduction vs alternative best practice uses of JSF/EJB3/JPA. In the end this should allow for much easier code readability and smaller modules. Which all equals fewer calls on vacation. I and others are always willing to help here on the forums, but to get the most of out what we're saying about Seam I think training in other areas would go a long way. At the very least you'd no longer be trying to learn 5 things at once, and could focus on doing Seam well. [jboss-user] [JBoss Seam] - Re: Scope/Context feedback
While I have to agree with you that the blog example does use this, it's not exactly the best way to show it.That is, that example is showing an already-complicated flow of control and it hard to compare that with more straightforward code. Although I do use the pull approach for one of my pages that doesn't need any inputs, I wouldn't dream of using the RESTful approach as shown in the tutorial (bookmarkable search results). What I mean is, I want to be able to take vacations and count on the fact that my peers can decipher the flow of the application without calling me. I think it's great that this kind of stuff exists, but it's hard enough to read other people's code without having to figure out the magic of @Factory and @Unwrap code. Maybe as we use Seam a little more, we'll start taking advantage of more sophisticated features and will laugh at how closed-minded we were "back then", but for now, we have to keep it simple so we can keep our heads above the rising flood of new technology. We're all from a Struts/JSP background and are struggling to absorb JSF/MyFaces, Facelets, Seam, and EJB3 all at once. The chain of events went like this: 1. Struts is just plain old news: I hear that JSF 1.2 was released and is much improved. 2. Supposedly, 1.2 solves "all the hassles" that caused us to ignore JSF for years 3. Oops, 1.2 fixed some problems, but JSF is still really messy due to the XML configuration complexity and other hassles. 4. Hey, I hear that JBoss released this Seam thing that is supposed to make JSF development more intuitive. 5. Wow, it's amazing how much configuration and glue Seam eliminates, and it provides some new features as well that aren't really provided elsewhere. 6. What the [EMAIL PROTECTED] ??? Did you see what they said about EJB3 in the Seam manual? We just ignored the EJB articles because it was always too clumsy, but now it's awesome! 7. Unbelievable, look what they did with Entity Beans! About damn time. 8. Okay, we'll use JSF, Seam, and EJB3 9. Man, JSPs still kind of suck, but the Seam tutorial and some examples use this Facelets thing that eliminates JSP and adds some templating featues. Okay, we'll use that too. 10. [jboss-user] [Messaging, JMS & JBossMQ] - XStream XML JMS Message
Hi, Using XStream (http://xstream.codehaus.org) for creating an XML payload for a TextMessage from within an MDB. The XML payload carried within the TextMessage is actually an ObjectMessage XStream'ed (marshalled) to XML. The MDB is a router between two queues in JBoss. Incoming queue is for ObjectMessage's and outgoing queue is only supporting TextMessage's (Apache Servicemix ESB), therefor we are trying to deliver an ObjectMessage as XML within a TextMessage. When the TextMessage is delivered to the other product (Apache Servicemix ESB) we can apply transformers and recreate (unmarshall) the XML/ObjectMessage. We are not shure about this approach since it is the JBoss implementing class for the interfaces javax.jms.TextMessage and javax.jms.ObjectMessage, that the XStream marshaller operates on. Will it be compatible? [jboss-user] [JBoss Seam] - Scope/Context feedback
Just a followup from my adventures with http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&t=90169. My root problem turned out to be the Seam practice of redirecting to the displayed page when you return the page itself from your action (see below). My reading of the reference manual led me to believe that Seam passed ALL of the contextual information to the view, even when there was a redirect. While it didn't really make sense to me that request (EVENT scope) data would survive a redirect, I had concluded that Seam was doing some sort of magic to accomplish this. I have now concluded that I was wrong. I was returning the actual view path from my action methods, like "/Document.xhtml". As mentioned in the manual, this does a redirect to the page. Because of that, the only data that gets preserved is the stuff stored in the session or application context (including long running conversations). I imagine most of you are saying "well, duh" about now, but I really did believe that Seam was magically taking care of all this! And the Seam examples reinforced my beliefs simply because they tend to promote the Conversation feature of Seam, which stores stuff in the Session, or provide stateless actions with SESSION scoped beans. Anyway, the solution for me was to define "navigation-case" entries for my pages WITHOUT the "redirect" tag included, like this: | | | document | /Document.xhtml | | I love the conversation idea for things like editing data, where there's a well defined entry and one or more exit points to a workflow. However, most of the rest of my app is made up of "open ended" conversations. Many requests are a typical example of an old CMP style request, where there is no need to store state between requests, and it's impractical to do so because of memory usage on the server. Maybe this is a reflection of imposing the old architecture, but for the most part the workflow is driven by business requirements. Now that I understand more of the details of how scope works (and have stumbled over the obvious fact that redirects wipe out a lot of state), I can easily mix SESSION, EVENT, and CONVERSATION scoped objects and actions into my app. In terms of the reference manual, I would like to request the following: 1. Add a new example (or revamp an existing one) to highlight the "mostly stateless" situation, where an incoming request (maybe with a request variable) triggers a database query and the results are passed to the view, without any SESSION or CONVERSATION scoped objects. There may already be an example of this in the existing code, but I couldn't find it. There was always either a conversation involved or the bean that was returned had SESSION scope. 2. Add more description around the scope types. a. Make it clear that EVENT scope doesn't survive a redirect (even though that should have been obvious to me). b. Explain the difference between CONVERSATION scope while you're IN a conversation, vs. when you're not [when you're not, it also doesn't seem to survive the redirect, since the implicit conversation wasn't long running]. c. Explain what PAGE scope is and what it does, maybe with examples. The description itself doesn't tell me how to USE this scope, or how it differs from other scopes. 3. Describe the relationship between an action's scope and the use an extended persistence context. a. What are the requirements on action scope (I assume you need a long running conversation or possibly session scope) b. What are the advantages of the extended persistence context? Maybe it's just a performance optimization, but it seems like it's no different that executing "em.merge" with the entity bean. c. What are the consequences of using an extended persistence context? Does it keep a JDBC connection open? (I assume not.) What happens if the action's context expires? [jboss-user] [Security & JAAS/JBoss] - Mixing Axis (BASIC) and web browser (form-based) authenticat
I'm pretty new to Java/JBOSS (I'm a C developer by trade), so forgive me if some of what I say seems nonsensical. Background: I've got an application running under JBOSS 4.0 that requires both browser based and remote Java client based logins. I've got the browser based interfaced working using forms-based authentication. When I log out, the logout is complete and any attempts to access another page takes me back to the login page. That's exactly what I want. If I switch this to BASIC authentication then the browser can cache the session info and get back in after the logout invalidates it without forcing the user to login again. That's not acceptable, so the form-based authentication appears to be what I want for the browser based interface into the application. I also have a standalone client built using Axis that needs to log into the same server. It originally was written to work with BASIC authentication. Switching to form-based authentication broke it. I've read what feels like a bazillion web pages (including the security FAQ here and the JBOSS 4.0 manual) and it appears AXIS only supports BASIC authentication and one other certificate-based type that (according to the JBOSS manual) nobody really uses. So if I want to build a standalong application using an RPC-over-SOAP interface I'll need to use BASIC authentication. Questions: As far I can tell I can't mix the two types of authentication for a single JBOSS application, can I? If I put two login-config sections in the web.xml then the JBOSS server prints error messages that I can't yet decipher. I inherited the project and the use of Axis (or at least some kind of RPC mechanism) is desirable by the project team. Is there some other way to do RPC from the standalone Java client to the application running in JBOSS? I considered dropping the RPC requirement and integrating our client with JDIC in order to do desktop related things and still access the server via a browser interface. How feasible does this sound? I need the client to be able to pass files back and forth to the JBOSS application, potentially very large files. Of course, I wasn't able to build JDIC on FC5, but that's a problem I can eventually resolve, if it's worth my time investigating further. I think what you want to do is precompile the JSPs. Basically, you precompile the JSPs and obfuscate them. Package the resulting class files in the same war file with the rest of the classes of the application (I think you omit the JSPs - don't place then in the war file). Deploy the war to JBoss. Google "precompiled jsps jboss" and you will get a lot of hits and more detailed instructions. [jboss-user] [JBoss Seam] - Re: MyFaces Tomahawk schedule component does not work.
Alright, this is completely misfiled. It has nothing to do with Facelets and certainly nothing to do with Seam. The problem was a classloader issue. The schedule component checks that the input is an instance of ScheduleModel. Of course, if that interface is being loaded by two different contexts, they will not match. If that happens, well, the following code speaks for itself. public ScheduleModel getModel() | { | if (getValue() instanceof ScheduleModel) | { | return (ScheduleModel) getValue(); | } | else | { | return new SimpleScheduleModel(); | } | } On a side note, I positively hate this silent failure behavior. My apologies for dumping this nonsense in the wrong place. [jboss-user] [EJB 3.0] - Are EntityListener's part of the transaction...
Hi, I have some code where I have a EJB3 entity bean with an EntityListener on it. In my post methods in the EntityListener (e.g. postPersist, postRemove, postUpdate) a handler attempts to serialize the entity bean and transfer it to a remote location. During the deserialization at the remote location, I get a ClassCastException related to the org.hibernate.collection.PersistentBag class. My assumption was that hibernate would not be involved at this point. That the EntityListener methods would be executed after the transaction had completed and thus the entity would be detached and hence a standard POJO again. Is this not true? I tried to find anything about transactions and EntityListeners in the spec and I did not see anything one way or the other on the subject. I am sorry if I am just missing it. Thanks. -- Mark View the original post : http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&p=3970782#3970782 Reply to the post : http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bb&op=posting&mode=reply&p=3970782 ___ jboss-user mailing list jboss-user@lists.jboss.org https://lists.jboss.org/mailman/listinfo/jboss-user

[jboss-user] [JBoss Seam] - Re: MyFaces Tomahawk schedule component does not work.
It just occurred to me why this is broken. Two copies of the Tomahawk library in both the WAR and the EAR because they both have a dependency. When the schedule component in the web application checks the class type for the parameter, the classes fail to match because they come from two different libraries. (Or at least something close to this.) [jboss-user] [JBoss Seam] - Task assignment via pooled actor
Hi, I do have an issue while trying to assign a task to an actor via the pooledTaskInstanceList. I'm facing a short process definition holding only a single task node and the usual start/end nodes. The definition is correctly deployed to the database. The task-node definition is straight forward: | | | | | | | Just for testing, I've implemented a form with a button for generating a processInstance from the definition and a showing all pooledTasks for the logged in user (set as actor). The user "admin" never sees the pooled task in the list, despite the database holds the correct entries: 1) the task in the table jbpm_taskinstance 2) jbpm_pooledactor is correctly set to "admin" 3) jbpm_taskactorpool table links the two entries If the assignment is done without the pool with: the task shows up in the output. Am I missing something here or why is the task never in the list of pooledTasks? Thank you for the help in advance. [jboss-user] [Messaging, JMS & JBossMQ] - Manually Acknowlegeing a message
Manually acknowledging a message Jboss 3.2.6 Hi all, I?m trying to find some documentation on Jboss MQ message acknowledgement, but I can?t seem to find it anywhere. We have the following setup. Tomcat Web Servers (Server A) JBoss MQ Queue (Server B) JBoss MQ Remote Queue MDB (Server C) Our tomcat servers push the message on the queue on Server B. Server C has a remote proxy defined, and then receives the message and processes it. I want the MDB on JBoss server C to manually acknowledge the message. I?ve set acknowledge-mode to Dups-ok-acknowledge, but that really doesn?t solve my issue. I have the following flow in the on Receive code, | ? delegate to POJO code? | | //if we get here id didn't blow up | try { | message.acknowledge(); | } catch (JMSException e) { | throw new UndeclaredThrowableException(e); | } | As you can see I want to manually acknowledge the message only if the POJO delegation is successful, how can I accomplish this? Currently if the POJO code fails, the message is lost off of the queue on server B.
