It's probably a good time to bump this post to the top (sorry :), because I am starting to use and learn about conversations. With so many different paths a conversation can take, it seems like almost every method on my SFSBs have both a @Begin and an @End, because of that method's role in one conversation or another... e.g. If my SFSB has 10 methods with a large number of paths that the conversation can legally take, I start annotating those 10 methods with @Begin and @End for every conversation, one by one. Once annotating all conversations is done, I figure out too many methods have @Begin and @End, and it's totally inaccurate... [jboss-user] [JBoss Seam] - Re: Logging using java.util.logging.*?
I could try it, but literally NO messages at all are displaying relating to my applications. Not when they deploy, nothing. Absolute silence. Something is very very wrong. I have long wanted Sun to come up with a way to send log messages to the console with absolute certainty. Instead of working on my software I'm struggling to get logging to work. I guess I will try the @Logger, and System.out. I could also just use a FileWriter or something. It is absurd that Java comes with all these features but still does not have a reliable logging mechanism. It's truly bizzar. I'm looking at the console and I see log messages related to creation of message queues, Tomcat deployment, etc, for all applications EXCEPT my two EAR files. There must be something very strange going on. There really should be a JVM flag like -Xlog-for-real-to-the-console-I-mean-it-this-time that totally prevents any interceptions of log messages. This is insane that I'm spending hours just trying to achieve what used to be possible with print 'hello there\n'. Anyway... time to use a good old FileWriter. Success: try { | final FileWriter fw = new FileWriter(/tmp/logger.txt); | fw.write(log message here, at: + new java.util.Date() + \n); | fw.close(); | } catch(Exception e) { } | Sun's java.util.logging came out with Java 1.4. You would think they would have some capability like the code I put above. Oh and I can't use @Logger because some of this is happening outside of Seam, like in Servlets. I need to just write my own file logger, like the above. This is so amazing that, even years after 1.4 came out, basic log messages still vanish. Hello guys, My first post here so perhaps not so insigtful. I'm on the same subject of duplicate actions. I have found that even a simple form submission like a simple sayHello method results in duplicate action. Could you perhaps make it more clear what should be done for it to stop doing that? Secondly, I'm experimenting with the new Seam security (in the CVS). I have found a few problems, the first being that once we are logged in, retyping the URL address of the starting page does not result in a request so the login dialogue is available once more since identity.loggedIn is not checked. So my question is what should normally happen when a user types in the URL directly. I think I know what might be happening. I think there must be a log4j.jar file in one of my ear files because it may be a dependency of something else, which means it has its own classloader which means it isn't picking up the log4j.xml file from jboss. Hello, I forgot to write about the environment :) So, I'm using AS 4.0.5 with ejb3 rc9 patch1. The exception happens when the .ejb3 contains a @Service annotated class. [jboss-user] [JBoss Messaging] - Object attributes loosing values
Hi, I am testing out JBOSS Messaging to see if it fits in with the new direction in which we want to take some of our applications and have been extending some of the examples to include the passing Java Objects around onto queues and topics instead of just text. I have got 2 processes working with the testTopic. The first process fires up first and starts listening for messages... the second process starts, fires off a message (Java Object) which the first process receives, sets a timestamp on the object using the ojects setter method and then fires the message back to onto the testTopic which the second process finally picks up and checks. However, despite verifying that the value has been set before sending the message back, the second process thinks that the timestamp field is null. Am I doing something fundamentally wrong or are objects not writable or something? Regards, Paul. [jboss-user] [JBoss Messaging] - Re: Object attributes loosing values
Hi Guys, Sorry, I've just found out what the issue was my own stupid mistake! The second process that sends the first message was actually also receiving it back before the first process had set the timestamp, so naturally it would be null. It was the fact that the second process was reporting to have received the message back before the first process had updated the timestamp that gave it away. Apologies, Paul. [jboss-user] [JBoss Seam] - Re: Logging using java.util.logging.*?
This is way outside of Seam, but, to me it does sound like you've got a configuration problem on your production server (or your host has). JBoss comes set up to display all the loggers messages correctly (and I'm sure the rest of the servers do as well) so it sounds to me like someone has changed a setting along the way that broke it. I may sound like a broken record, but using Seam logging is IMO, sensible (it will check which loggers are available and choose one). In 1.1.1 you can get a seam logger by LogProvider log = Logging.getLogProvider(...); and should work anywhere. I think 1.1.1 should be out soon View the original post : http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bbop=viewtopicp=4001755#4001755 Reply to the post : http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bbop=postingmode=replyp=4001755 ___ jboss-user mailing list jboss-user@lists.jboss.org https://lists.jboss.org/mailman/listinfo/jboss-user

Probably an idiotic question but I have too. I'm deploying a .war file in JBoss 4.05. It works perfectly except for 1 litle detail. I DON'T want it to be deployed in /tmp/deploy/. In Tomcat war file is deployed in webapps and I would like a similar effect in JBoss. A catalog that I specify or directly under deploy it doesn't matter. But not as a temporary file that redeploys every time I restart the server. I used the code in searchInstances() in MonitoringBean provided with the 3.1.2 webapp and bastardized it for my requirements. I also added an index for the name_ and longvalue_ column, which is what I am using in my where clause. My reason for not takng a similar approach to dslevine is that I need JBPM to be as losely coupled from the client application as possible. All access to jBPM is via a Stateless Session Bean without the frontend application knowing to much about the internal workings of the JBPM. [jboss-user] [JBoss Seam] - Seam coupling
Hi. I'm designing the actual system of my enterprise. Now, we've application developed with JSF and DAO. Due to the session JSF management problems (business process, http session overusing, state, etc), we has decided to find out and implement a solution to use persistance data and business logic layer with EJB3. Studying the Seam framework, I perceived that it couples low the Session Bean EJB and other beans, if needed. Therefore, it looked me that JSF has implicit high coupling, cause the jBPM and jsf pages use directly access to the actions. If in the future, we decided to change the presentation tier (JSF to Struts, example). Can Seam offers a solution and headache low to change it? or should I change all the session beans, decopling Seam and implement third-part solution? [jboss-user] [JBoss Messaging] - Re: JMS Exceptions / Mismatch of JBossSerialization version
I am really wondering whether the client side subscriber behaviour of opening a new socket every two seconds is the way it is supposed to work. This leaves a lot of sockets lying around in state TIME_WAIT. This behaviour is visible in the log excerpt of my posting from Fri Jan 12, 2007 06:59 AM in the current thread. I am also able to reproduce it with an unmodified installation of Messaging-1.0.1.SP2 on top of JBoss-4.0.5.GA and a trivial JMS topic subscriber running on the same (WinXP) box. When using a Messaging-1.0.1.GA installation and the appropriate client jar there is just one stable two-way connection between the server and the client as one would expect. I will be happy to provide the debug logs and/or the source code if deemed helpful. [jboss-user] [Management, JMX/JBoss] - Re: How to detect that a NotificationListener was lost after
Thx for replying Dimitris. No, the jboss server that register the Listener which is more or less the client and is remote (not the same JVM). Moreover they can be multiple clients. That means that if I want to use JMS, I must implement a complex mecanism of registering a client queue toward the service at client startup and unregister it when the client stops. The notification pattern does actually fits our need as it implements a broadcasting pattern from service to clients. We just added a keepalive mecanism (a simple methode of the MBean) that the clients calls on a regular basis indicating its signature as a parameter. Then the service (service MBean) dig into the listener registery to findout if the listener is still their and return true if ok. The problem is that there is no getter to the listener registery. As explained in my first post, we currently overrode the methodes that access to the registery attribute of the JBossNotificationBroadcasterSupport class to get access to a ListenerRegistry attribute which is also redefined. That way we can monitor what listener is still there and which disapeared. We identify the listeners using their handback signature attribute in which we put a id string (hostname + ...). The issue is if we further upgrade to a newer version of jboss we could encounter maintenace problem as the listener mecanism could evolve. If you successfully removed the News page, you must have found jboss-portal.sar/portal-samples.war/WEB-INF/default-object.xml. [jboss-user] [Tomcat, HTTPD, Servlets JSP] - Re: JBoss Web vs Tomcat?
A few answers: 1) I don't know. 2) Yes. If you look at JBoss AS 5.0 beta 1, you will see JBoss Web in use (look for the notification that it could not find the shared object and is thus not running Apache Portable Runtime). 3) As noted in #2, JBoss Web is part of JBoss AS starting in 5.0. Though you can run dual servers, with Web handling static, JSP and servlet content and AS handling EJBs. 4) Since there is only one server, you place things in the deploy directory as usual. If running dual server, the war files go into the deploy directory under Web and EJB jar files go into the deploy directory under AS. You, of course, have to properly configure the JNDI in your web applications in Web to look up the EJBs in AS. Also, you would want to move war files out of ear files so they can be separately deployed. Finally, if you have supporting/utility jar files, they might have to go into both locations depending on which classes use them. Note that this is no different that what you would currently have to do if you decided to front end JBoss AS with Tomcat (or Jetty) running on a separate system. (While this is possible, I do not know of anyone actually doing this.) 5) I don't know. For the questions I don't have the answers to, you might want to ask on the JBoss Web forum. [jboss-user] [JBoss jBPM] - Exception handling problems
Hi, I've got an action in one node of my process that if it fails I want it to halt the jBPM execution. What I did was create a new custom exception and throw it. As it is said in the jBPM documentation (9.7. Exception handling) if there are uncaught exceptions they will be thrown to the client that is calling the signal() method. However my exception in the client is always null, although he realizes that an exception happens. I've already tried to not even use a custom exception, and just let the default be thrown but the same happens. Did I missunderstood the documentation or could it be some problem? Thanks! If there's a firewall in between your apache and application server, then the solution that worked for me was keepalive On. The default Linux keepalive settings will need to be modified to match those of the allowable idle connection time out on the firewall. Are you saying that you want to save changes made to mbeans via Web Console? If so, that is not possible. If you want the change to be permanent, you must modify the original xml configuration file. If what you want to do is have several possible 'states' for an mbean and switch from one to another, one way is to set up scripts using twiddle to make the changes, and then run the appropriate script(s). [jboss-user] [JBoss Portal] - Re: JBoss Portal default MyPage samples
SJX, thanks for catching the typo. JBoss AS doesn't have any portlets itself, so that isn't the issue. It has to be one of the portlets from portletswap. Also JBoss AS does not keep track of any portal information, that is the sole responsibility of JBoss Portal. All portal information (including portlets, instances and objects/windows) is kept in the database. The *-object.xml, and similar files, are used both initialize and update the data in the database (hence the ' if-exists ' tag). Unfortunately, no matter how if-exists is set, the portal cannot tell that you actually deleted the pages from the database, and thus simply repopulates it. Hmm, maybe a value of 'firstTimeOnly' for if-exists might be handy. Hello, I tried to figure out how the selectItems component from seam works, but I wasn't very successful yet. I tried out the examples but I can't figure out how I can transfer this to my application. Here my scenario: I have a List of Languages, that I want to display my web gui in a h:selectOneMenu. I have extend my jsf, wrote a Converter, make a backing bean. The value of the option is set correct through the Converter, but for the description I get always the result of the toString() method. It seems that the label tag is ignored. I can write what ever I want and get always the toString()-result. Maybe I have configured wrong. Here some code fragements: The jsp: | | h:selectOneMenu value=#{user.language} converter=myLanguageConverter | si:selectItems | value=#{languages} var=language label=#{language.isocode}/ | /h:selectOneMenu | The backing bean: | public class EditUserInformationActionBean implements EditUserInformationAction, Serializable { | | @SelectItems | private ListLanguage languages; | | | @Factory(languages) | public void initLanguages() { | languages = ItemHelper.initLanguage(); | } | | ... | | } | The Converter: | public class LanguageConverter extends SelectItemsConverter { | | public LanguageConverter() { | } | | public Object getAsObject(FacesContext context, UIComponent component, String value) throws ConverterException { | throw new ConverterException(Method not supported); | } | | public String getAsString(FacesContext context, UIComponent component, Object value) throws ConverterException { | if (null == value) { | return ; | } | if (value instanceof Language) { | Language l = (Language) value; | return formatLanguageString(l); | } | return ; | } | | The language class: | public class Language implements Serializable { | | @Id | @Column(name = isocode, nullable = false) | private String isocode; | | /** Creates a new instance of Language */ | protected Language() { | } | | // getter/setter, toString, equals etc. | The examples works fine. But I think there is an litte error, too. The discount drop-down-field has the descriptions tenPercent, twentyPercent and twentyFivePercent, but I would expected the values from the message.properties (10%, 20% and 25%) I hope someone could give me a hint what's wrong. I've tried it and don't work. In the table JBPM_TASKINSTANCE inserted a task and a value 'null' in actorid (this is mi problem). Sorry for my english... [jboss-user] [JBoss Seam] - Re: Recursive facelets
There's a feature request mentioning recursive use of compositional components. Further it asks for multiple bodies and overwriteable default content in compositional components. See https://facelets.dev.java.net/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=202. Vote for it so it get's done quickly ;) View the original post : http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bbop=viewtopicp=4001844#4001844 Reply to the post : http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bbop=postingmode=replyp=4001844 ___ jboss-user mailing list jboss-user@lists.jboss.org https://lists.jboss.org/mailman/listinfo/jboss-user

You always have to configure how Hibernate caching. Seam does not change this in any way. just do it as you would normally do via de api. please clarify for me, this magic that happens behind the scene is specific to JBossWS 1.2 or to any implementation of JAX-WS?
