[jboss-user] [Installation, Configuration DEPLOYMENT] - Remote debugging with Jboss
Hallo, I'd like to know how to set up my Eclipse 3.4.2 and Jboss in order to debug my application in remote mode. First of all, I already enabled the line: set JAVA_OPTS=-Xdebug -Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,address=8787,server=y,suspend=y %JAVA_OPTS% In Eclipse, in the debug configuration panel I set the ip address of the jboss server where my web application is hosted, and 8787 as port number. Then, I lauch my debbuger by clicking on the green beatle and the Jboss got stuck in an infinite loop. How can I sort it out ? Aside from this strange behaviour, I can't figure out how it is possible to debug an application running on the server with a debugger that it is installed on the client side where the code is developed... I would appreciate any help. I used following MBean listening on EJB3 deployments in JBoss 4.2 (jboss-service.xml): | server | !-- EJB notification listener -- | mbean code=my.project.mbeans.EJBDeployNotificationListener name=my.project.mbeans:service=EJBDeployNotificationListener | attribute name=SubscriptionList | subscription-list | mbean name=jboss.ejb3:service=EJB3Deployer handback=ejb3Deployer/ | notification type=START_NOTIFICATION / | notification type=STOP_NOTIFICATION / | /subscription-list | /attribute | /mbean | /server | my.project.mbeans.EJBDeployNotificationListener implements ListenerServiceMBeanSupport. In Jboss 4.2 I'm able to look to all deployed artifacts and do what I need with it. In this case for parsing specific proprietary annotations for our customer EJB3 classes. There isn't any service jboss.ejb3:service=EJB3Deployer in JBoss 5.1.0 all configuration (clean installation). I tried to explore jboss.deployment:id=Ejb3Deployer,type=Component but it seems to not provide any notification support. I guess it is because in JBoss 5 this should be handled in a different way. Can you give me some advise how to solve this task? [jboss-user] [JBoss Messaging] - Re: deleting messages rather than blocking if server down fo
The threads are coming from my client application - there is a thread per http request and at the end of the request it calls send(). Hundreds of these threads are created every minute so if the call to send() blocks then it doesn't take long for the blocking to overwhelm the VM. I guess I could re-architect my application to put the messages in a queue and have one thread pull the messages off and send them, this just feels a bit like I'm implementing something which could (should?) be in the messaging client. As for the ExceptionListener solution, I thought about this too. I have JBM setup to auto-reconnect so I don't actually get an exception when the server goes down (I just see some warning messages in the logs). From what I can tell the sender queues up the messages in the background. When the server comes back, only then does my ExceptionListener callback get called, at which point I redo the JNDI lookup and recreate the connections and sessions etc. This works well. I think if I set JBM not to auto-connect then the ExceptionListener callback is called right away when the server goes down, but then I have to do my own reconnect logic. I'm happy with this ExceptionListener logic, it would just be nice to be able to throw messages away instead of blocking, but maybe I should code this up myself. [jboss-user] [JBoss Messaging] - Re: deleting messages rather than blocking if server down fo
Adrian- Are your client threads calling send() on the same ClientProducer (core ) or MessageProducer (JMS) instance? If you do this you would have to synchronize access in your client application since neither JMS MessageProducers or core ClientProducer instances are designed to be used by more than one thread at a time, Alternatively if you're creating a new MessageProducer for each message sent - that would also be frowned upon as an anti-pattern. Sessions/Producers/Consumers should always be reused between messages sent/consumed (unless you're not worried about performance). If you enable auto reconnect you do so on the presumption that your server has not really failed but there is a temporary network glitch (like someone has pulled out the cable for a while), and when the network comes back the client will be able to automatically reconnect its session(s) with the sesssion(s) still remaining on the server and carry on as if nothing had happened (this is transparent reconnection). In your case the server has really failed so on recovery the server sessions will clearly not be there any more (since the server was restarted) and they won't be able to connect. That's why you don't get the exception until the client has tried to reconnect and not found the session(s) there. If you turn off auto reconnection you'll get the exception sooner. The clients are calling send() on the same MessageProducer instance, and this isn't synchronized. This hasn't caused any noticeable problems in the past (when the MessageProducer was using ActiveMQ) or since we started evaluating JBM (although the loads on those 2 servers are still very low). This makes me think I really should queue up the messages to be sent myself and have one thread call send(), which will also get rid of the blocking problem. As for the exception listener stuff - yes, I understand how that works with the different re-connect values and it makes sense. We have a thread pool - the problem is, we really *do* need to be able to handle thousands of simultaneous request threads. The application in this case is an audio streaming server which ideally should only be limited by IO reading files from disk. Currently we have this scaling up to a few thousand simultaneous users but the idea is for this to go up into the tens of thousands. I will code up a message queue so message sending happens in one thread. Thanks for the input. These webservices get requests from external systems and from among the other internal webservices as well. I want to know how these both Threads (the one in the BasicThreadPool and the HTTP Connector Thread) relate to each other. After our application has been deployed, I have noticed that there are about 800 currentThreadsBusy at a particular time. And when I went to tomcat console (at http://localhost:8080/status), I have found that most of them were waiting at GET requests for one of the webservices. anonymous wrote : | Stage Time B Sent B Recv Request | S 1161886 ms 8 KB 0 KB GET /OurAddressManagement-war/AddressManagementAPIService?wsdl HTTP/1.1 | S 3300470 ms 8 KB 0 KB GET /OurServiceManagement-war/ServiceManagementAPIService | .. | The server was reaching its full capacity and the top command for the HP UNIX server (this HP UNIX machine hosts the JBoss 4.2.2.GA App server) indicates a CPU usage of 120% (it is a 2 CPU machine). As we can see, these HTTP threads were found waiting for a long time (3300470 milliseconds = almost an hour). At such high load, when I check the BasicThreadPool, the QueueSize = 0. If so many HTTP threads are waiting, then I anticipated the queue size to be atleast 100. This value of zero is quite inexplicable considering that the MaximumPoolSize is just 20. With such high requests, the server is down to its knees and I would like to know what I can do to decrease the processing times of the HTTP threads. Thank you for your time. [jboss-user] [Clustering/JBoss] - Caching, hybernate and using enums = no go
Hi, We have JBoss AS 5.1.0 and use hibernate to store our session beans in MySQL DB. Also pojo caching is used to make the objects available throughout the cluster. For both hibernate and caching we use annotations. @Replicable for classes that need to go into cache and @Entity for objects that need to be stored using hibernate. We compile everything and the @Replicable classes with aopc. If we deploy the created jar file and start JBoss we get a java.lang.VerifyError. This error originates from a switch statement that is using an enum to switch. The enum is defined in a @Replicable class called HelperClass the switch method is defined in the bean called Request Disabling hibernate OR @Replicable OR both there is no problem starting JBoss. I can not imagine that this is an unknown problem, one of you probably must have had the same problem. If so what was the solution? [jboss-user] [Installation, Configuration DEPLOYMENT] - Re: jboss 5.1 encoding problem
The encoding problem on the error page remains even if we start the server right after installing the archive. On the deployment problems we have progressed, and the situation is that we have to correct some configuration files and JSP where jboss 5 is stricter. More information: - we see encoding errors in the error page, but also in the logs - we have 15 war and 2 ear in a directory named deploy/ginerativ, and 6 sar files - libraries 36 of them (10 of them are developped in house) in lib/ginerativ (we use subdirectories to avoid merging our files with jboss installed files) On the same server, with the same java and envrionment setup, and jboss 4.2.3, the error page is properly encoded with french accents. Also we found that, for the moment, the server is slower than jboss 4.2.3, although this seems an unlikely explanation. Pete tells me that up to Seam 2.1 they target JBoss 4.x, from Seam 2.2 and onwards it will be JBoss 5. So this is fixed in Seam 2.2 trunk. The tooling uses the templates Seam provides so I would really not like to do additonal logic for something that the Seam team won't even target/support. When i remove the server-api-2.3.jar file from Axis.war, appication is working fine, i mean the jsp's are compiling. Even if this is not the cause of our problem then EvictionTimerTask seems susceptible to this behaviour. Maybe you should consider using something like the Spring Framework DelegatingExceptionProofRunnable (http://static.springsource.org/spring/docs/2.5.6/api/org/springframework/scheduling/support/DelegatingExceptionProofRunnable.html). Any thoughts on this? [jboss-user] [JBoss jBPM] - Some Questions about Spring JBPM4 Integration
Greetings all: I've been working with the excellent demo project posted by Andries Inzé that shows how to integrate Spring and jBPM4 at http://www.inze.be/andries/. I've managed to get things working against the trunk code but not CR1. I see how we can pass arguments to the java objects in the spring context: env type=âorg.jbpm.pvm.internal.history.HistorySessionâ/ I'm curious as to what else can be passed to the java object. Like I'd like to get a copy of the actual Execution. HistorySession has only one method. Also will it be possible to declare nodes that pull from the Spring context? I'm super excited about the combination of Spring/jBPM4. Thanks and regards, Robert Moskal Most Media brooklyn, USA View the original post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bbop=viewtopicp=4242439#4242439 Reply to the post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bbop=postingmode=replyp=4242439 ___ jboss-user mailing list jboss-user@lists.jboss.org https://lists.jboss.org/mailman/listinfo/jboss-user
[jboss-user] sticky_session=0 + UseJk=false + HTTP Session Replication
Hello, I have a setup with: Two hardware load balancers - 2 Apache 2.2 instances running mod_jk 1.2.28 LB w/ sticky_session=0 - 2 JBossAS 4.2.3 Servers doing HTTP Session Replication via JBoss Clustering. * My hardware load balancers are not configured to do sticky sessions * My Apache 2.2 w/ mod_jk lb workers have sticky_session=0 set (No Sticky Sessions) Since I do not have sticky_session enabled do I still need to have UseJK=true and my jvmRoute value set for mod_jk LB and HTTP Session Replication to work? In deploy/jboss-web.deployer/META-INF/jboss-service.xml it reads: --- SNIP --- !-- Whether to use MOD_JK(2) for load balancing with sticky session combined with JvmRoute. If set to true, it will insert a JvmRouteFilter to intercept every request and replace the JvmRoute if it detects a failover. In addition, you will need to set the JvmRoute inside Tomcat, e.g., Engine name=jboss.web jmvRoute=Node1 defaultHost=localhost in server.xml. For clustering purpose only. -- attribute name=UseJKfalse/attribute --- SNIP --- This suggest to me that unless you are using sticky_session=1 in mod_jk you don't need to set UseJK to true and the jvmRoute. Is this assumption correct? If UseJK is set to false does mod_jk LB still work with JBoss? Will other aspects of jboss clustering still function as they should i.e Session Replication? [jboss-user] [JBoss jBPM] - [jBPM4] Task Forms
Hi all, I'm currently integrating jBPM4 with a tapestry 4.1.5 based web application. I've seen that there are some example task forms (.ftl files) in the src/test/resources directory of the jBPM4 trunk, but I couldn't find any test cases or documentation of the task forms that would explain how they are inteded to be used. The only thing I found is the post at http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bbop=viewtopict=155048, but it doesn't explain how to actually deploy the templates and how to retrieve instances of the forms in a web application. Also, the ${form.action} expression is a bit of a mystery to me. Is this a process variable as we know it from jpdl files? Any hints would be appreciated, thanks in advance! [jboss-user] [JBoss Messaging] - Re: JBoss slowing down
Finally I have been able to tune Jboss AS to work as per the expectation of our company.I have made few configuration changes and I think combination of those helped. Those are underlined below 1I have disabled XA recovery coniguration outlined in chapter 8 of JBoss messaging installation. 2Found this https://jira.jboss.org/jira/browse/JBAS-5801. We were getting some transaction exceptions after 2-3 weeks. So added this attribute track-connection-by-tx/ to jms-ds.xml 3 As Howard suggested we updated to newer version of Jboss remoting which had completely eliminated the issue of messages getting stuck in queues. 4Removed jmx-console war from deployment which I think was the main reason behind slow jboss shutdown. 5We had earlier removed 'FILE' logger from jboss log4j configuration knowing that logging does have performance impact. Now we have removed all jboss specific log items and allowed only application logs. Hope this is going to be helpful for all developers working with Jboss messaging. [jboss-user] [Clustering/JBoss] - Re: Farm deployment errors with large WAR files
Patrick, Looking at the log files you sent I'm seeing JGroups doing a lot of retransmission of messages. Basically for each ~60K of content JGroups sends a message; if the receiver detects some messages are missing it asks for retransmission of the missing message and won't deliver messages to the application until the missing message is received. If you get a lot of that it will certainly slow things down. I'm going to assume you are using the standard JGroups configurations that ship with the AS and that the problem isn't there. Much more likely is it's an OS-level issue; OS isn't providing large enough buffers for UDP datagrams. Result is datagrams are lost at the network layer, so JGroups never sees the messages and needs to have them retransmitted. The default UDP buffer size on many OSs is very small. http://www.29west.com/docs/THPM/udp-buffer-sizing.html has a nice section on how to configure UDP buffer sizes on various OS's. The stock JBoss AS config can utilize up to a 25MB in UDP buffer, so if you have memory resources to allow that much, go for it. If not, provide as much as you can but I'd say at least 2MB. [jboss-user] [Clustering/JBoss] - Re: sticky_session=0 + UseJk=false + HTTP Session Replicatio
1) Use sticky sessions. If you don't you are asking for trouble. 2) If you disregard #1, there shouldn't be any harm in leaving UseJK=false. The purpose of the JvmRouteValve is to allow the session to stay stuck after failover. 3) I've never tried to use mod_jk without configuring a jvmRoute. Quite possibly it will work fine. Suggest you just try it and see. Hmm, come to think of it just yesterday I by accident tried mod_jk w/ no jvmRoute configured (forgot to configure it on a test setup.) It seemed to work fine except the sessions didn't stick, which is to be expected. [jboss-user] [EJB 3.0] - Re: onetomany relationship question
Hi, I played around with your sample a bit. I agree that it works if you first create and save the parent, then create the child, set the parent and persist the child. But assume that you don't save the parent, but the child. Here is the code snippet: ParentBean parent = new ParentBean(); | entityManager.persist(parent); | | | ChildBean child1 = new ChildBean(); | parent.getChilds().add(child1); | //child1.setParent(parentNew); | | entityManager.persist(parent) | In this case, child and parent will be saved without error messages, but the relationship related database data is missing. So, as a general guideline: always update both sides of the relationship, this will avoid a lot of problems ;-). [jboss-user] [Clustering/JBoss] - Re: sticky_session=0 + UseJk=false + HTTP Session Replicatio
The reason I've chosen not to use sticky sessions is because theoretically at any time a node in the HW LB cluster could go down. If it does and the user gets directed to a different Apache + mod_jk node in the cluster what good is the sticky session then? I figure as long as session replication is turned on within my JBoss cluster I should be taken care of regardless if the originating HW or Soft LB node goes down. With UseJK set to false it's been reported to me that JAAS replication wasn't happening as it should. I can neither confirm or deny that report because I have not seen the evidence to back it up. However, I am wondering if there is any possible way that could be true? Also, if UseJK is set to true and jvmRoute is defined and mod_jk is still configured with sticky_session=0 is that ever a valid configuration? [jboss-user] [Clustering/JBoss] - Re: sticky_session=0 + UseJk=false + HTTP Session Replicatio
Mod_jk with sticky sessions routes requests based on the jvmRoute appended to the session id in the session cookie. The failure of one of your Apache nodes does not mean sticky sessions won't work, since such a failure doesn't affect the session cookies. For more on the sticky session recommendation see http://www.jboss.org/community/wiki/WebClusteringBestPractices. Not sure what you're referring to when you discuss JAAS replication. Perhaps https://jira.jboss.org/jira/browse/JBAS-1900 ?? That's another reason to use sticky sessions -- the web container's FORM authentication mechanism assumes the post of the login form will go to the server that issued the form. Re: UseJK=true and a jvmRoute when sticky session aren't used, it's valid in the sense that it doesn't break anything. The UseJK=true isn't doing anything for you; adds a bit of overhead. I'm not going to comment beyond what I already have on not setting the jvmRoute as it's not something I've really investigated. I have never seen an Address already in use error when attempting to connect to a port as a client (as a server, yes, but never as a client). Use netstat to determine if the port is open. Also try running: telnet localhost 1099 that should give you some gibberish as the output, but the key information is the hostname in that output - it could point to an issue in /etc/hosts. (I know there are several posts that discuss using telnet to debug this, but search doesn't yield any of them, so I can't point one out. So, could you post the telnet output and /etc/hosts file?) [jboss-user] [Clustering/JBoss] - Re: sticky_session=0 + UseJk=false + HTTP Session Replicatio
I'd like to clarify that I have a hardware LB in front of two separate Apache + mod_jk (configured to load balance) nodes. Each Apache + mod_jk node lb's to the same two JBoss AS servers. If the HW LB cluster in front of the Apache nodes decides to send a request to a node other than the originating Apache + mod_jk sticky session initiating node (we'll call this ws node 1) during an active session then my assumption is the other Apache + mod_jk node (ws node 2) will have no knowledge or ability to handle the other Apache + mod_jk lb nodes activities/ sticky session? Thus my reason for skipping the sticky sessions. Follow me? The one thing they do have going for them is that they are both configured identically mod_jk wise. The workers are defined the same so therefore the jvmRoute entries theoretically could be identified by ws node 2 if ws node 1 wasn't available. I guess this brings me to another question. Does mod_jk keep track of sticky sessions it's initiated locally? How is that information stored/shared? If there are two separate web servers with mod_jk identically configured to LB w/ sticky_session=true and sharing the same workers, could one entire web server fail and the other take over seamlessly? How would JBossAS handle this. How would mod_jk handle this? [jboss-user] [JBoss Portal] - Jboss Portal DB Setup Issue
Hi, We are seeing a strange issue while setting up portal database. Initially we created a db user with system privileges ( similar to DBA privilege) and set this user under PortalDS datasource. Once we start the Jboss Portal Server. All the JBP/JBPM tables, Sequences( hibernate_sequence, portlet_sequence,portal_seq, instance_seq,sec_seq,user_seq) are created. We set up the portal and its security, themes etc through the admin console. Everything works fine using this db user. Since this user has system privilege, there is a concern from DBAs as well as infrastructure to have a similar user with system privilege credential in production and staging environment. As a next step, we created a new db user and granted all access to the JBP/JBPM tables and synonyms created for jboss portal sequences(hibernate_sequence, portlet_sequence,portal_seq, instance_seq,sec_seq,user_seq). In the hibernate.cfg file the hbm2ddl.auto is set to update. When we started the jboss portal with the user credential of newly created user in PortalDS, the application server is starting fine with 3 of the sequences ( portal_seq, instance_seq, sec_seq) giving error as (e.g. Table Not Found: portal_seq), then when i try to login to portal using portal user or admin. It is not going through. I'm wondering why not able to get into JBP when JBP is started with a DB user not having system privilege while it is working with a DB user having system privilege. Since the tables, sequences are already created and the newly created user is being given all privileges on the tables and sequence synonyms. Has anyone faced this issue or this is a limitation in JBP ? Appreciate your response ? [jboss-user] [Installation, Configuration DEPLOYMENT] - Re: resteasy-maven-import not found
In the link http://www.jboss.org/file-access/default/members/resteasy/freezone/docs/1.1.GA/userguide/html/Maven_and_RESTEasy.html, it said that: | There is also a pom that can be imported so the versions of the individual modules do not have to be specified. Note that maven 2.0.9 is required for this. | | dependencyManagement | dependencies | dependency | groupIdorg.jboss.resteasy/groupId | artifactIdresteasy-maven-import/artifactId | version1.1.GA/version | typepom/type | scopeimport/scope | /dependency | /dependencies | /dependencyManagement | But it doesn't mentioned where I can download this pom from.
