But I can tell you what I would try :) First I would try to Open your Server from servers view, click "Open launch configuration" and see if the "Diver launch tab" isn't already just there and you can enable it. Secondly I would figure out what that diver launch tab actually does, but Diver does not in their docs explain *how* they do this but my guess is that they use a a javaagent of some sort thus it should just be a matter of specifying these options in the Server's launch configuration. To find out how that is done simply launch a normal java app with the tracing enabled, go to the Debug view and right click on the launched process and select "Properties" - in here you should be able to see the command line arguments and see what are Diver specific. Then you can go back to option A and specify these thing manually. Thirdly, fall back to do this completely manually and simply setup a launch configuration similar to what is in the server editor - the classpath and the classname used. -- Reply to this message by going to Community [http://community.jboss.org/message/578588#578588] Start a new discussion in JBoss Tools at Community [http://community.jboss.org/choose-container!input.jspa?contentType=1&containerType=14&container=2128] ___ jboss-user mailing list jboss-user@lists.jboss.org https://lists.jboss.org/mailman/listinfo/jboss-user

All you need is the following: * http://www.jboss.org/jbossas/downloads/ JBoss AS 6 or another Eclipse supported CDI container such as Glassfish * http://community.jboss.org/community/tools/blog/2010/12/09/jboss-developer-studio-beta-2-is-ready JBoss Developer Studio 4 Beta 2 or another Eclipse with http://community.jboss.org/community/tools/blog/2010/12/09/jboss-tools-32-beta-2 JBoss Tools 3.2 Beta 2 installed * 5 minutes to watch or read the following blog Here it is as a video walk through: Media Description: Link: http://www.vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=17669512&server=www.vimeo.com&show_title=1&show_byline=1&show_portrait=0&color=&fullscreen=1 ...and here are the steps in Screenshot form: h2. Step 1: Install/Configure the Server runtime The simplest way to setup JBoss runtimes is to use the "JBoss Runtimes" preference page which are available via the Preferences or by simply pressing Ctrl+3 and type in "JBoss runtimes". http://community.jboss.org/servlet/JiveServlet/showImage/38-3430-10704/hellocdi_ctrl3runtimes.png http://community.jboss.org/servlet/JiveServlet/downloadImage/38-3430-10704/385-144/hellocdi_ctrl3runtimes.png When pressing enter you should see the following Preferences page: http://community.jboss.org/servlet/JiveServlet/showImage/38-3430-10705/hellocdi_preferencepageruntimes.png http://community.jboss.org/servlet/JiveServlet/downloadImage/38-3430-10705/450-230/hellocdi_preferencepageruntimes.png Click the "Search..." button and point it to a directory with your JBoss runtimes; in this case I got a few. http://community.jboss.org/servlet/JiveServlet/showImage/38-3430-10706/hellocdi_selectruntimefolder.png http://community.jboss.org/servlet/JiveServlet/downloadImage/38-3430-10706/450-335/hellocdi_selectruntimefolder.png When you have selected the directory JBoss Tools will scan for runtimes it knows about and show you what it found: http://community.jboss.org/servlet/JiveServlet/showImage/38-3430-10707/hellocdi_foundruntimes.png http://community.jboss.org/servlet/JiveServlet/downloadImage/38-3430-10707/450-165/hellocdi_foundruntimes.png In this dialog you can then remove the checkmarks for runtimes you do not want configured or simply press OK and JBoss Tools will make all selected runtimes available from within the IDE. For the Server parts it is now availabe in the server view: http://community.jboss.org/servlet/JiveServlet/showImage/38-3430-10708/cdihelloworld_servers.png http://community.jboss.org/servlet/JiveServlet/downloadImage/38-3430-10708/265-105/cdihelloworld_servers.png >From here you can start the server (in this case JBoss 6) by clicking the >Debug or Run icon. If you start via Debug icon the server will wait at any >breakpoints you have set in your code and allow you to inspect the current >state. In any case when the server starts up it sends the output of the console to the Console View: http://community.jboss.org/servlet/JiveServlet/showImage/38-3430-10709/helloworld_cdi_console.png http://community.jboss.org/servlet/JiveServlet/downloadImage/38-3430-10709/450-187/helloworld_cdi_console.png h2. Step 2: Create the Project Now use the File > New > Dynamic Web Project or simply press Ctrl+N and find the "Dynamic Web Project" wizard http://community.jboss.org/servlet/JiveServlet/showImage/38-3430-10710/dynamic_web_project.png http://community.jboss.org/servlet/JiveServlet/downloadImage/38-3430-10710/450-332/dynamic_web_project.png On the Wizard page, type in a project name (i.e. "cditest") and Click the "Modify" button under Configuration. http://community.jboss.org/servlet/JiveServlet/showImage/38-3430-10711/webprojectwizard.png http://community.jboss.org/servlet/JiveServlet/downloadImage/38-3430-10711/450-474/webprojectwizard.png The Modify Configuration is where you can enable/disable what Eclipse calls project facets. In this case we simply want to enable the Context Dependency Injection facet. http://community.jboss.org/servlet/JiveServlet/showImage/38-3430-10712/cdifacet.png http://community.jboss.org/servlet/JiveServlet/downloadImage/38-3430-10712/450-277/cdifacet.png Now Click Ok and press Finish on the Wizard and a basic WAR project will be created for you. http://community.jboss.org/servlet/JiveServlet/showImage/38-3430-10713/cdiproject.png http://community.jboss.org/servlet/JiveServlet/downloadImage/38-3430-107

The end is near! This is the last beta planned before we do a planned CR1 and then Final next month. If you are on Eclipse 3.6 (Helios) we definitely recommend you to upgrade to this version. It has never been better. We are hungry for http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bb&op=viewforum&f=201 feedback! h2. A few last improvements For this last beta we've squeezed in some improvements within the almost 500 issues fixed in this round. h3. Simplified Download and installation The simplest way to install the most commonly downloaded JBoss Tools 3.2.x plugins is now to use http://marketplace.eclipse.org/ Eclipse Marketplace. Eclipse Marketplace is available from the Help > Eclipse Marketplace menu in Eclipse. When you install JBoss Tools via Eclipse Marketplace you get the "Web 2.0" plugins in one click - if you want additional or the complete plugin set you can use the complete http://download.jboss.org/jbosstools/updates/development Update Site. Finally we also provide a zipped version of the Update sites from our http://www.jboss.org/tools/download Download page, which this time is also reduced to just the most popular download options instead of listing all 60+ sub-components individually. Let us know what you think about this simplified installation! h3. More Platforms You can now install all of JBoss Tools on any Eclipse compatible OS and in particular Windows and OS X 64-bit. Previously we limited the installation to those where the Visual Page Editor can run which unfortunately excluded some OS's. That restriction has now been lifted which means all can now get advantage of the complete tooling, except for the visual part of the editor which still only will be available on platforms were there exists working XULRunner/SWT bindings. h3. Cloud & Remote deployment There have been done a lot in the area of the JBoss Server adapter Remote System support and for the Delta Cloud tooling but most importantly is that the SteamCannon team is now hosting a DeltaCloud server you can try and use together with JBoss Tools without having to setup your own DeltaCloud server. The url for this is http://try.steamcannon.org/deltacloud http://try.steamcannon.org/deltacloud/ and can be used as the URL for a Cloud Connection in the Cloud Wizard in JBoss Tools. Note: Please beaware that this URL is still driven by experimental code and can at any time stop working - so try it while you can :) h3. Performance! Beta 2 delivers 10 X performance improvements over M2 in the HTML and JSF validation - making this release the fastest ever! h3. JBoss 6 and CDI The latest JBoss 6 release provides a full-fledged CDI environment and JBoss Tools now provide full set of code completion, validation, refactoring and quick fixes for CDI. If you are into trying out CDI using JBoss Tools with JBoss 6 gets you started very easily. h3. ...and more! Hibernate, Seam, Drools, BPEL, ESB, GWT and Modeshape also received a good set of fixes and improvements - you can see more about these in the http://docs.jboss.org/tools/whatsnew What's New Now go Get It and Have Fun! -- Comment by going to Community [http://community.jboss.org/community/tools/blog/2010/12/09/jboss-tools-32-beta-2] ___ jboss-user mailing list jboss-user@lists.jboss.org https://lists.jboss.org/mailman/listinfo/jboss-user

[jboss-user] [JBoss Tools] - Building JBoss Tools Documentaion
Max Andersen [http://community.jboss.org/people/max.andersen%40jboss.com] modified the document: "Building JBoss Tools Documentaion" To view the document, visit: http://community.jboss.org/docs/DOC-13341 -- You can download a folder with a plug-in either from a Anonymous SVN (http://anonsvn.jboss.org/repos/jbosstools) or a Committer SVN (https://svn.jboss.org/repos/jbosstools) ( if you have commiter rights) repositories . In the plug-in's folder you will find a directory with documentation. This instruction explains how you can build the documentation. h3. Prerequisites: Ensure you have the Maven building tool Ensure the Nexus repository and profile as defined here: http://community.jboss.org/docs/DOC-15170 http://community.jboss.org/wiki/MavenGettingStarted-Developers are in your *+settings.xml+* file, located in your *%M2_HOME%/conf/* or *%USER_HOME%/.m2/* folder. These settings are required in order to obtain the necessary jDocbook plug-ins that are required to build the JBoss Tools documentation h3. Building Steps So, you checked out the plug-in for which you want to build documentation and the documentation folder. And now you can proceed to building the documentation. 1.Find the +*pom.xml*+ file, that is responsible for building the documentation, in the plug-in folder you downloaded. Normally it’s located in “/docs/reference”. 2.Run *mvn clean install* command in the folder with *+pom.xml+* to start building the documentation. (nightly build docs are build by default) Example: u...@user-desktop:/home/user/trunk/seam/docs/reference$ mvn clean install 3.If everything is configured correctly you will see a “BUILD SUCCESSFUL” message. You will also see a generated *+target+* folder that contains the built documentation. Example: To open the HTML version of the “Seam Dev Tools Reference Guide” guide you need to proceed to u...@user-desktop:/home/user/trunk/seam/docs/seam/docs/reference/target/docbook/publish/en-US/html_single and open index.html file. h3. Documentation Profiles There are 3 profiles that you can build documentation with: *release* builds release documentation with “new” or “updated” markers next to the corresponding chapters and sections titles *releaseJBDS* builds release documentation with Jboss.com styles for commercial products > Remember to redeploy "jbosstools-jdocbook-style" and > "jbosstools-docbook-xslt" if it have been changed. > In order to redeploy you should run 'mvn deploy' from the corresponding > directory. [jboss-user] [JBoss Tools] - Manage SWTBot bits used by builds and developers
Max Andersen [http://community.jboss.org/people/max.andersen%40jboss.com] modified the document: "Manage SWTBot bits used by builds and developers" To view the document, visit: http://community.jboss.org/docs/DOC-16087 -- JBT/JBDS builds and JBT/JBDS SWTBot tests developers have to use the same version of SWTBot to ensure consistency. Current version of SWTBot release used is specified in the target platform definition files (*.target) stored in SVN repository here: http://anonsvn.jboss.org/repos/jbosstools/trunk/build/target-platform/ http://anonsvn.jboss.org/repos/jbosstools/trunk/build/target-platform/. There are two files available. *Multiple.target* contains all the source URLs from whichc the target is built. *Unified.target* contains the same IUs (installable units) but swaps out the URLs for our own JBoss mirror, located here: http://download.jboss.org/jbosstools/updates/target-platform/latest/ http://download.jboss.org/jbosstools/updates/target-platform/latest/ Open the .target file in your favourite Text or XML Editor, and search (CTRL-F or /) for "swtbot" to find the relevant IUs and their versions. ".feature.group" means "this feature and all its contained plugins". h5. Updating JBoss Tools Hudson Builds To The Latest SWTBot Release When SWTBot needs to be updated, verify your tests will still work with the latest release: 1. Compile complete SWTBot test suite in your workspace (using M2Eclipse) or via commandline (using Tycho) to verify updated SWTBot release does not break your tests.* If there are compilation errors, fix them or report them in JIRA. Test locally before committing changes to the tests back to SVN 2. Update SWTBot target file to specify proper SWTBot release version and commit it to SVN. 1. The easiest way to do this is to do a Maven build in the target-platform directory and generate the target platform repo locally. * cd ~/trunk/build/target-platform; mvn3 clean install -P get.*local.target* 2. This will fetch all the contents from the target platform, and update the .target files to use the versions found in the repo you generate locally. You can also update the .target files by hand, if you prefer, but the automated approach is easier and less error-prone. 3. As a result of running a build of the target platform locally, you can now *OPTIONALLY* use that repo instead of the remote one when running your builds. To activate this *local.target* repo, do this:* cd ~/trunk/build/parent; mvn3 clean install -P *local.target* * cd ~/trunk/build; mvn3 clean install -P*+componentToBuild+*,*local.target* (where +*componentToBuild*+ may be as, archives, esb, ... or as-bootstrap, archives-bootstrap, esb-bootstrap, ...) While a build will run automatically in response to your committed changes, you can also kick one manually to save time: * http://hudson.qa.jboss.com/hudson/job/jbosstools-3.2.0.Beta2.target-platform/build http://hudson.qa.jboss.com/hudson/job/jbosstools-3.2.0.Beta2.target-platform/build (currently require VPN) h5. Updating JBoss Developer Studio ("Uberbuilder") Hudson Builds To The Latest SWTBot Release 1. Create a collection of new zips of the for the updated releases. 2. Create new md5sums. 3. Publish them somewhere that Hudson can see them 4. Update the properties file that JBDS uses to access them: * http://svn.jboss.org/repos/devstudio/trunk/releng/org.jboss.ide.eclipse.releng/requirements/swtbot/build.properties http://svn.jboss.org/repos/devstudio/trunk/releng/org.jboss.ide.eclipse.releng/requirements/swtbot/build.properties h5. Communication Strategy, or, Letting People Know About Changes It's important to let others know that you've updated the SWTBot baseline against which everyone's tests will be run. Figure out what version the commit is for When you got the commit you know the date and if it were committed in trunk or a branch. Now if that is not enough to figure out what specific release it was in you need to start using svn log to be sure of when a commit actually happend - using the release date of JBoss Tools is not good since the release date might be a few days after the tag actually happend. To find the branch date of 3.2.x you do the following on a command line: svn log https://svn.jboss.org/repos/jbosstools/branches/jbosstools-3.1.x -v --stop-on-copy This command goes back on the branch (or tag) and spits out the full log until it were created (i.e. when it were "copied") This should give a long output which ends with something like this: r20399 | nickboldt | 2010-02-20 01:39:20 +0100 (Sat, 20 Feb 2010) | 1 line Changed paths: D /branches/jbosstools-3.1.0.RC2 A /branches/jbosstools-3.1.x (from /branches/jbosstools-3.1.0.RC2:20398) rename branch from RC2 to .x This means that 3.1.x were done at "2010-02-20 01:39:20 +0100" and copied from the 3.1.0.RC2 branch, thus if your commit were done to this 3.1.0.RC2 branch before that date it is in 3.1.x. I've fixed the wikipedia so it no longer wrongly says GPL since it's never been GPL. 2) Eclipse Marketplace: Other open source is the only option I saw since just saying EPL would be wrong. (see above) 3) Yup, feature.xml/featutre.properties is where you get the proper license info from. 4) license.html - yes, all that is true (license to use != copyright). 5) If you see plugins with missing/inadequete license info please report that as a bug in our jira. Manifest aren't the right place to look, about.html and license are. I don't understand why you think richfaces are misleading about its license ? It says it's EPL, but it also references things that are not EPL (i.e. Mozilla Public License) thus the license.html is also true. About GPL, there are *no* mention of GPL anywhere beyond Wikipedia which got that wrong, only LGPL is used and LGPL != GPL. And with respect to GPL and EPL then that is best referenced as "it's complicated" but let me try and explain my stand First of, let me be clear: We (JBoss Tools) do not distribute any plugins under GPL, we use primarily EPL but some parts are LGPL, ASL and MPL. No GPL in JBoss Tools. That being said: The GPL license triggers on distribution (at least for GPLv2), meaning it is ok for plugin providers to provide GPL plugins as long as it is not distributed together with EPL bits. Note: We (as in JBoss Tools) does not do this; and do not recommend anyone to do this because it becomes really messy very fast. i.e. users using a GPL licensed plugin can not use it for anything but on the machine they are using it - they cannot copy it nor distribute it to anyone without breaking the GPL license in some form. Eclipse and FSF's blogs all talk about linking and that we completely agree on - GPL is not useful in context of Eclipse plugins because the plugins runs in the same memory uses the same datastructure and thus cannot be clearly separated in the terms stated in GPL. And that is why we cannot nor do we distribute JBoss Tools plugins under GPL. JBoss Developer Studio is though a different thing, JBDS is under GPL, but that is the actual distro, not the actual plugins. Similar to Red Hat Linux or Fedora are under GPL but they actually distribute a copy of Eclipse which is under EPL. So it's complicated - but for the simple case of plugins being available under GPL - that is not something we do nor recommend. Long mail - but I hope it outlined it ;) -- Reply to this message by going to Community [http://community.jboss.org/message/568204#568204] Start a new discussion in JBoss Tools at Community [http://community.jboss.org/choose-container!input.jspa?contentType=1&containerType=14&container=2128] ___ jboss-user mailing list jboss-user@lists.jboss.org https://lists.jboss.org/mailman/listinfo/jboss-user

If he also needs the JBoss AS integration then we are talking LGPL, but I'll keep that out of the explanation for now - but just note it has some differences. You can see the license in each individual feature/plugin. For EPL the best resource is http://www.eclipse.org/legal/eplfaq.php http://www.eclipse.org/legal/eplfaq.php which explains the various scenarios. With respect to "would he be required to make his SDK plugins available to the world as well" then if those are separate plugins and not derivative works then he can (basically) license them as he wants - see the FAQ for examples. For EPL it's only if you modify (creates a derivative work) that the source code have to be made available, i.e. if you fix a bug in our richfaces plugin then you'll need to provide the changed code - if you write a plugin that provide support for new JSF components then you don't have to distributed the source code for those additional plugins. So if that is all he is doing then that should work fine. That above is all about copyright, on top of this comes trademark which is something I'm not the right to ask about. I can ask our legal to comment on this if you wish to. btw. ignoring legallities a more important topic is what kind of API's you are going to usewe don't guarantee API compatibility for things out-of-the-box for *All* plugins - thus if you need something speak up on the jbosstools-dev list and we'll figure something out (patches welcome) ;) -- Reply to this message by going to Community [http://community.jboss.org/message/568173#568173] Start a new discussion in JBoss Tools at Community [http://community.jboss.org/choose-container!input.jspa?contentType=1&containerType=14&container=2128] ___ jboss-user mailing list jboss-user@lists.jboss.org https://lists.jboss.org/mailman/listinfo/jboss-user

Beta Time! It's beta time, meaning we've locked down new feature additions to most of JBoss Tools and we get to give you the first beta release of JBoss Tools 3.2 - the version of JBoss Tools you should use if you are using Eclipse 3.6 (Helios). h3. New Features/Improvements Since it is beta time the focus have been and will be on bugfixing, optimization and stabilization but we do got a few nice new features I would like to highlight - as all ways there is more to see on the http://docs.jboss.org/tools/whatsnew What's New page(s). h3. 10 x faster validation for JSF/XHTML We've fixed reported issues concerning performance problems with validation of XHTML in larger projects. Our own test project (100.000's of Expression languages and thousands of pages) which before took 15 minutes to validate are now done in less than a minute when doing a full validation. Making the validation 10 times as fast as what is seen in the M2 release. If you continue to have performance problems with Beta1 please let us know! h4. CDI/Seam Validation and Quickfixes CDI and Seam have all received some more additional validation (i.e. we now valdiate classnames referenced in CDI descriptors) and a good set of quickfixes allowing you to quickly fix common problems. h4. MyFaces 2 metadata MyFaces 2 does not ship TLD's within their project. This make them "invisible" to our default handler for JSF compoenents since we moved to use classpath based lookups to have more correct code completion and validation per project. MyFaces does though ship their own -metadata.xml file that describes their components and we've added support to parse and recognize these now. This should make any new components or changes to existing ones in MyFaces show up in the editor without having to get JBoss Tools updated. h4. Remote Deployment JBoss Tools AS Server adapter is now telling the remote server to not scan for changes when remote deployment are done via file copying; preventing "accidental" deployments, making things much more robust. The remote deployment now also includes optiorns for controlling the start and startup commands used over SSH - allowing you use your own external launch scripts to control how JBoss AS is started/stopped. h4. Hibernate Comments HQL (Hibernate Query Language) does not support comments natively, but we have had many requests for allowing it in the Query Editor since it is very useful for quick experiments to be able to comment out parts of your query. Therefore you can now use "--" the beginning of a line to comment it out in the editor. Not a big feature in itself but worth mentioning it since many have asked for it over the years. h4. Annotation Properties View We are http://community.jboss.org/community/jbosstools/blog/2010/09/13/extending-the-eclipse-annotation-properties-view experiementing with using the new Annotation Properties View which are available via Eclipse WTP JAX-WS support in Helios. This release therefore are including support for JBoss ESB and JAX-RS (RestEasy) annotations, giving you a more graphical approach to read and write annotations on your service classes. ...and http://docs.jboss.org/tools/whatsnew more h4. h4. Feedback In M2 we enabled our Usage Tracking and it was a http://community.jboss.org/community/jbosstools/blog/2010/09/24/friday-statistics-with-special-thanks-brazil raving success and continues to give us more and more information about where and how JBoss Tools are being used without having users to do anything beyound using our plugins. The AS Deployer does not by default deploy into the server, but rather deploys into the workspace area to avoid "dirtying" the installed AS. You can double click the server to see where it is actually deploying to and you can right click on the deployed modules and choose "Explore" to see what actually gets copied/deployed. If that still leads to nothing are deployed/copied then try and do a Full Publish - does that change anything ? To view the discussion, visit: http://community.jboss.org/message/564310#564310 -- There is nothing different between how JBoss or Tomcat sees your jar's in web-inf/lib. They are automatically picked up if using JEE 5/6, if using earlier then you have to refer to them from manifest.mf. If you are missing JBoss in "Run As.." but have a Tomcat there then i'll assume is because you only added a Tomcat server and have not yet added a JBoss Server ( you do that via File > New> Server and then choose JBoss Enterprise or Community server depending on what you have available to you). And if that would have been available then it would still not be the right place to add spring or other jars for your WAR. -- Reply to this message by going to Community [http://community.jboss.org/message/564310#564310] Start a new discussion in JBoss Tools at Community [http://community.jboss.org/choose-container!input.jspa?contentType=1&containerType=14&container=2128] ___ jboss-user mailing list jboss-user@lists.jboss.org https://lists.jboss.org/mailman/listinfo/jboss-user

[jboss-user] [JBoss Tools] - Friday Statistics with special thanks Brazil!
Max Andersen [http://community.jboss.org/people/max.andersen%40jboss.com] modified the blog post: "Friday Statistics with special thanks Brazil!" To view the blog post, visit: http://community.jboss.org/community/jbosstools/blog/2010/09/24/friday-statistics-with-special-thanks-brazil -- We added usage tracking into our http://community.jboss.org/message/561160#561160 JBoss Tools 3.2 M2 release and since then it have been pouring in with pings from all over the world and we love every second of it. Nothing like it, seeing your hard work being used across the planet. Today we've passed 1.000 different cities and the number is ever increasing. http://community.jboss.org/servlet/JiveServlet/showImage/38-1971-9333/ga_worldmap.png http://community.jboss.org/servlet/JiveServlet/downloadImage/38-1971-9333/450-266/ga_worldmap.png The above screenshot is a snapshot of the current cities we have received pings from over the last week. Darker color and size of the circle indicates the % of visits. For now Brazil and especially the Sao Paolo region has the biggest crowd. Yesterday we had 2.500+ instances of JBoss Tools starting up within 24 hours and our total of unique Eclipse installs using M2 passed 18.000 this morning. Very happy to see that much pickup of our M2 release within just a week, I'm very postively surprised so many approved and enabled the tracking and growing every day. Many thanks for those who did and those who will in the future - it's much more fun than watching simple download counts and give some nice fun content for a Friday blog :) -- Comment by going to Community [http://community.jboss.org/community/jbosstools/blog/2010/09/24/friday-statistics-with-special-thanks-brazil] ___ jboss-user mailing list jboss-user@lists.jboss.org https://lists.jboss.org/mailman/listinfo/jboss-user
