I'm not sure i understand your question. when you say 'consumption of the same

the messages within its own transaction. The transaction covers the delivery of

Ok, i see what your asking, but it seems like a strange thing to try and
acheive. Maybe your app architecture needs a rethink?

Any way with BMT its the container that creates the UserTransaction you have
access to, you only commit or rollback, so each MDB instance would have its own
transation. You could create your own tx but that wouldnt involve the delivery
of the message which is i guess what you want. I would rethink what you want.
p.s. all this is more to do with the App server than messaging per se, so maybe
they would be ablt to help you more, but in trusth i would think of a different
solution

2009-08-03 Thread ataylor
Yeah, Ive managed to recreate it and there is a bug there.

One thing that exacerbates the issue is that you are acknowledging every
message when you only need to ack 1.

from the spec:

anonymous wrote : CLIENT_ACKNOWLEDGE - With this option, a client acknowledges a
  | message by calling the message's acknowledge method. Acknowledging a
  | consumed message automatically acknowledges the receipt of all messages
  | that have been delivered by its session.
  |

If you change this then you should be able to consume all the messages.

No, this as per the JCA specification.

The reason is that the message being delivered is acknowledged outside the
scope of the transaction. i.e. you are controlling the transaction within the
MDB's on message. to do this you will need to use container managed
transactions.

shouting on lots of topics won't get you an answer any quicker. The development
team are very busy but will get round to answering them in time. see below!

You are confusing redistribution with failover. Redistribution will
automatically re route its messages when a queue has no consumer. In your case
you are killing the node so obviously it cant redistribute. When it comes back
up the messages are there so it just sends to the consumer when it reconnects.

What you want is failover. basically this requires a back up node being
configured. Have a look at the automatic-failover and symmetric-cluster
examples to see how this is done. Also read the section in the user manual.

fyi MDB's are not part of the messaging project, they are part of the
Application Server.

However,

You are using bean managed transactions which means the delivery of the
messages to the MDB are outside the scope of the bean managed transaction. This
makes sense if you think about it because you will be beginning the tx inside
you MDB onMEssage.

You need your MDB to be Container manages with a transaction type of
'REQUIRED'. Also when you lookup the connection factory inside your MDb for
sending you need to look up the correct one. Usally this is mapped to
'java:/JmsXA'. Doing this means that the delivery of the message and anything
you do in your MDB are involved in the same tx, i.e. 1 fails both fail.

[jboss-user] [JBoss Messaging] - Re: Any recommendation how to use JBM2 Producers Pool?

2009-07-14 Thread ataylor
you are correct that (1) should be avoided.

regarding (2), When you are using 1 connection per producer are you creating a
new session per producer. JBM2 will share connections between sessions created
by the same connection factory, see
http://labs.jboss.com/file-access/default/members/jbossmessaging/freezone/docs/usermanual-2.0.0.beta3/html_single/index.html#connection-ttl.session.multiplexing.

JMs has no notion of pooling, A JMS producer should *not* be shared between
application threads, each should have its own. If you want to cut down on the
number of producers being used you can write your own send method and pool the
producers your self, just make sure your send method is synchronized on the
producer being used.

The instance being used is on the client side.

Hi Naresh,

heres a quick overview of the JCA configuration.

The JCA configuration is found in ra.xml under the jms-ra.rar. This configures
the incoming and outgoing connection factories.

The incoming is what is used by your MDB's. All these properties can be over
ridden via the activation properies on your MDB. you have done this with the
ConnectorClassName parameters to use a netty connector. By default the the
ra.xml is configured to use th eINVM connectors since the MDB's are in the same
VM. You only need to over ride them like you have if you want your MDB's to
consume from a remote server.

The outgoing is what is used to look up connection factories within servlets
etc and are configured via the jms-ds.xml file. again all the properties can be
over ridden in here. The jndi-name is the name you should look up this
connection factory by.

Can you review what you have done and if you are still getting errors provide
me with a test MDB/configuration and i'll run it on my windows box.

Andy

When using the core API there i s no such thing as a topic, we only deal with

it where each queue will have a consumer(subscriber).

If you are using JMS then i would recommend taking a look at the

I would start by looking in the server logs for errors. It could be a network
problem.

Also, it would be helpful if you supplied more info, i.e. version number, stack
traces etc.

How do you know messages are left in the queue?

when are you starting the consumers, messages can be buffered by a client so it
may be that the first consumer to connect has all the messages sitting in its
buffer.

Post your code so we can take a look.

Alternatively check out the trunk and build it its very simple, just run 'ant

setting the timeout will have no effect since this only occurs when the

I'm afraid if you are going to produce lots of messages that aren't being
received and you can't delete then you have to wait for the start up. once the
messages are consumed this is no longer an issue.
