Does anyone know if Jason's OC4J 10.1.3 instructions for Seam work with Seam
2.0?

Btw, create a JIRA request for OC4J 10 support so we can gauge the level of
interest in it.

Pete, I have no problem with that at all. In fact, it was my intention to be
able to do just that. I blogged there as it was easier for me to document
there what I had I done, before trying to reformat it for inclusion in the Seam
wiki/docs. I'm willing to help out where I can. If you want to talk in a
little more realtime, feel free to email me (jason at steeplesoft dot com). I
also have a couple of IM accounts we can if you'd like, which I can send you
via email if you want. I'm going to try to create a self-contained example app
(the app I used for this uses an external database with a fairly complex
schema). I'll post that...somewhere when I'm done with it.

Well, to be honest, if I could choose, I probably would have used GlassFish, as
I do (or have done) fair amount of EE5 work. When JBoss 5 ships (and, thus,
fully EE5 compatibility), that would be a more viable option for me (though I
hear 4.2 would get me pretty close -- and maybe close enough -- to full
compatibility. I'm using oc4j, though, as my employer (the FAA) has adopted
that app server as the production environment. Drats! :P

Thank you for your reply.

I figured as much for the choice of OC4J.

What is the features of Glassfish are you using that are not in JBoss AS 4.x
and what are you looking for in JBoss 5.x?

Well, long story short, when I first got started with GlassFish and EE5, JBoss'
support for EE5 wasn't NEAR as good as GF's. You can read more about our
reasonings (such as they are) here:
http://blogs.sun.com/stories/entry/international_environmental

JBoss 4.2 likely adds everything I would need or want (full EJB3 compliance,
JPA, JSF), but, with all due respect to the JBoss AS guys, there's not enough
compelling reasons for me to switch from GF (with which I'm *very* familiar) to
JBoss (though if my employer were to adopt JBoss, I'd be very happy). I hope
that was diplomatic enough. :) hehe

Thanks. Very informative. I did not expect a full QA interview. I am also a
small shop and and glad to see that you are moving in the same direction.

We use strictly PostgreSQL and EJB3. I am using Seam 2.0 and AS 4.2.1.

Well as those two issues indicate:

1) To update the OC4J chapter in the Seam 2 docs with instructions on how to
deploy a project to OC4J 10 (as another section)

2) To get the JPA (and hibernate) examples running on OC4J 10.

If you can submit patches for either that would be superb!

Jason, would you mind if we used this as the basis both getting the JPA example
running on oc4j and for some docs?

I created http://jira.jboss.com/jira/browse/JBSEAM-2123 and
http://jira.jboss.com/jira/browse/JBSEAM-2122 in the anticipation you
would be happy - can you indicate on the issues if you have a problem with this.

Thanks!

mikepaul and apushadow,

I'd be happy to update the wiki. Let me try to distill what I've down to the
base minimum (and make sure I can repeat it) and I'll update the wiki.

jasondlee:

Yeah, if you could update the wiki or post here on how to get OC4J to look in
the war instead of only in applib that would be great. I struggled with that
for days and never did figure it out, so I wrote the aforementioned wiki with
the applib hack.

Also, if you've got any guidance on how to get a Seam app working on OC4J 10,
that would be great as well...that was another thing I tried to do...only had
luck with OC4J 11, though.

OK. I now have it working. Long story short, oc4j 10.1.3 does not bundle the
TLE jars. Adding that fixed the problem. I'm also bundling all the seam jars
in the war and not touching the applib dir, unlike the wiki article above.
