[JBoss-user] [J2EE Design Patterns] - Re: Is there a pattern with JBoss for this kind of problem ?
hello, well this seems to a problem of managing 50,000 Things object. I guess the simple solution will be to have a class containing hashmap or an array list based on your needs to store this "Things" object. and then make that class a singleton or a monostate which can access your Things obect in the way u want it. I don't think that you need any type of EJB for this. [JBoss-user] [J2EE Design Patterns] - Re: DAO or EJB
Hi Puneet, DAO is used to interact with database and other type of storages where as EJB are your business domain entities. Generally they are used in combination of each other except when you are using CMP type of beans. The selection criteria is not based on no. of hits. and EJB's are the way of simplifying and brining a modular type of approach in your design. If they are architected properly, then I don't see a reason why they are not scalable. I guess you should read java documentation and try reading Core J2ee patterns and Masering EJB2, that's where I am learning from. I hope this helps. -Rajesh View the original post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&p=3837601#3837601 Reply to the post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bb&op=posting&mode=reply&p=3837601 --- This SF.Net email is sponsored by the new InstallShield X. >From Windows to Linux, servers to mobile, InstallShield X is the one installation-authoring solution that does it all. [JBoss-user] [J2EE Design Patterns] - Re: let's discuss my application architecture, and give me yo
hi, I have taken a brief look at your design. Based on what you have written seems to take off, but you can consider some other choices also such as xml based communication over http or https between your internal systems and external systems. then you will also get away with messaging system. XML will interface with almost all the languages when compared to interfacing a system written in a different language. with respect to your second question, it depends what benefits u are getting from architectural point of view or from companies point of view. If the system is time and money crtical, then the best trait is to go with simple solution and then refactoring it and make it whatever u want. But an exchange platform can be a viable solution for long term as otherwise, you will have to write some interfacing components for all the servers interacting with each other. then in that case exchange platform solution is really a good one. you can use message queue server as your main hub to forward the request even though your message type is xml based ( I guess ) and it can be on any servers or can have a dedicated server if the load is too high. I guess u will be using store and forward messaging type in that. Message queue again has it own benefits. In terms of using no. of queues, you design is good i.e. messaging and event mechanism is a two way street, one outgoing and the other incoming, but again that breeeds asynch type of communication and you should be aware of all the facts abt it. Overall, think about using xml (web services ) over http and https. In my view it can solve most of your problems. -Rajesh View the original post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&p=3837596#3837596 Reply to the post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bb&op=posting&mode=reply&p=3837596 --- This SF.Net email is sponsored by the new InstallShield X. >From Windows to Linux, servers to mobile, InstallShield X is the one installation-authoring solution that does it all. [JBoss-user] [Installation & Configuration] - Configuration Management - Development vs Production
What solutions are people using for managing and deploying different versions of their configuration files? A concrete example is the web.xml file in the jbosweb-tomcat.sar jboss-service.xml file. For session clustering it requires you to change the jvmRoute attribute for each instance in the cluster to point to the server defined in the workers.properties file. Any config file that references resources such as a datasource, file system, etc that may change between development and production. In the past I have made duplicate versions of my config files with the extension "-prod" for all production conf, "-test" for development versions as well as a "-stage" for our staging/qa environment. I then have a process to link in the prod, test, or staging version where appropriate. Other mechanisms I have tried are adding special tokens into my config files and replacing those tokens with the appropriate prod, stage, or test info at build time. These methods have worked ok for me. I have never been entirely pleased with them. The symlink solution does not work for windows. Not to mention the unix paths vs windows (C:/) paths issues. Any ideas, or suggestion on what has worked for you in the past would be much appreciated. [JBoss-user] [Installation & Configuration] - Re: UNC path in URLDeploymentScanner
I did go to Google. I did look at the source. All before I posted. What I found after trial and error was that the following does work file://\\SERVER\SHARE\path Seems odd to me that it would be like this, but I suspect that JBoss is passing anything after file:// directly to the File class to find the correct location. Maybe this is a feature, maybe this is a bug, I can't tell. But I did find a solution. The one other caveat about using UNC paths, in case anyone else runs into this problem, is that the user that jboss runs as (either specified via a service descriptor in Windows or as run from a command line) must be resolvable to the server whose UNC path is being used. In other words if you are running JBoss on a server using a local user then, no matter how the share's permissions are set up, jboss will not be able to see the UNC path. Both servers must have access to the same user information provided by a common domain controller. Thanks for the help. [JBoss-user] [HTTPD, Servlets & JSP] - Re: Strange Problem with HTTP Invoker Using Tomcat Coyote-HT
Well, Jboss already has a local entity resolver implementation (JbossEntityResolver.java) that it uses to lookup dtds from jboss.jar. Several of the dtds being requested (not all of them suprisingly) are already registered in the JBossEntityResolver.java to be looked up from jboss.jar (org.jboss.metadata package). The XMLFileLoader registers this implementation class as the resolver. Therefore I would have expected at least the ones registered there not to be looked up. Besides, that still does not explain why on Windows no lookups are requested. Still a mystery. The file-pm is not officially supported anymore and does not get called by default. I wonder if that was clear in the installation instructions? The best PM is the JDBC2 or 3, with your choice of JDBC supporting database. [JBoss-user] [HTTPD, Servlets & JSP] - Strange Problem with HTTP Invoker Using Tomcat Coyote-HTTPS
We are using JBoss 3.2.2/Tomcat 4.1.27 on RedHat 9. The client application (Swing) communicates with the app server via the HTTP invoker (HTTPS) on port 443. For testing we are using self-signed certs. We also use a custom JAAS login module for client authentication. The application deployed is an ear made up on stateless session beans using CMT against an Oracle datasource. We observed this problem only on Linux, it does not happen on Windows. The problem has to do with something in the http invoker trying to make calls out to java.sun.com and www.jboss.org to lookup dtds which causes the client invocation to hang. In our environment, outside access is not allowed from app server boxes. The server comes up fine without any problems, however the first time a client call is made, four dtds are requested (www.jboss.org and java.sun.com) , they are : /j2ee/dtd/jboss_3_2.dtd /j2ee/dtd/security_config.dtd /j2ee/dtd/jbosscmp-jdbc_3_2.dtd /j2ee/dtd/jbosscmp-jdbc_3_0.dtd /dtd/web-app_2_3.dtd If outside access is not allowed the client invocation hangs and netstat shows a SYN_SENT entry going out to the external site. About 15 minutes later the invocation seems to timeout, the client receives the expected response and things proceed fine thereafter, further client invocations do not hang. For now we modified etc/hosts to point www.jboss.org and java.sun.com to 127.0.0.1. This causes the invocation to succeed, however we observed that something on the app server tries to lookup the dtd by going to the external sites exactly every 5 minutes. I copied the dtds to an internal box running apache and pointed the www.jboss.org and java.sun.com to that machine and observed that even though the http response was a 200, it still tries to validate the dtds every five minutes. The same exact test on Windows worked with no problems, no http requests were observed from the app server to lookup any dtds. Basically, the first client invocation acts as a trigger to start the lookup of the five dtds every five minutes, regardless of whether they are found or not. Turning on debugging reveals the following exceptions which occur irregardless of client invocation hanging or running on windows/linux. The exceptions show up as DEBUG. Any help is greatly appreciated. [JBoss-user] [Installation & Configuration] - loader-repository and log4j.properties
Hi I am using log4j 1.2.8 and jboss 3.2.3. I have the applications logging settings in log4j.properties which is under WEB-INF/classes. But when running inside JBoss this log4j.properties is not detected. Instead it find the log4j.xml under default/conf and looks for logger names there. If I copy the logger/category names to jbosse's log4j.xml it works. But I want my log4j.properties to be used which is under WEB-INF/classes I have set the UseJBossWebLoader in jboss-service.xml to false. I was thinking may be i need to add jboss-web.xml nd set the java2ParentDelegation=false. But what do I set for loader-repostory , since this is a resource file and not an archive. First of all is my assumption that I need a jboss-web.xml correct ? If so, what should it contain ? If not, how do I make Jboss read my log4j.properties for my application ? [JBoss-user] [Messaging, JMS & JBossMQ] - PM Question
We are using JBoss-3.2.3 on Solaris and using the file-pm-service.xml as the persistence manager. We performed a stop on JBoss and there were approx. 91,000 messages in the tmp directory. Starting JBoss took approx. 1.5 hours. When the file-pm-service.xml was deployed, it seemed to remove all the messages from the tmp area. Then, the Message Cache started up and put them all back. I have searched the forums (for file-pm-service,pm, messages, etc), google, and such and have not had any hits on this issue. If anyone can illuminate my darkened mind it is appreciated. Maybe I didn't formulate the question correctly. I know that Java can handle UNC paths corrrectly. What I was looking for is the syntax to use in the URLDeploymentScanner's "URLs" attribute in the jboss-service.xml file. I've tried the following: file:Server/share/path file://Server/Share/path //Server/Share/path \\Server\Share\path None of the above seem to work. I'm thinking that I need to use a variant of the file: syntax, but I'm not sure what will work. Thanks for the help in advance. I'd also like a way to check and see if a temporary queue is still around without going through the process of trying to send a message to that queue. This goes hand-in-hand with the above. [JBoss-user] [Messaging, JMS & JBossMQ] - Temporary Queue destroyed listener?
Hello all, I have a Temporary queue being created by a client that is connecting to the server (over UIL2). I would like to be notified if the client's connection is broken, but on the server. I've browsed the JMX console and the DestinationManager gets notified of the queue being closed immediately. I can't find anything in the JMS spec about this, but I am open to suggestions of any implementation. I've tried setExceptionListener on the server, but I don't think the QueueConnection I'm getting is necessarily shared or directly to the client. I am getting it from the QueueConnectionFactory in JNDI. I am then creating a new QueueConnection, QueueSession and QueueSender each time I need to send a message to the client (inside a stateless session bean). Should I be reusing it and not closing it? The app is going to be deployed in a cluster over HAJNDI. The end result I am looking for is to call a bean method or publish a JMS message to a topic with the queue name being destroyed. Thanks, Mike View the original post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&p=3837561#3837561 Reply to the post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bb&op=posting&mode=reply&p=3837561 --- This SF.Net email is sponsored by the new InstallShield X. >From Windows to Linux, servers to mobile, InstallShield X is the one installation-authoring solution that does it all. according to the JDK docs, yes: Extract from http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/api/java/io/File.html For Microsoft Windows platforms, the prefix of a pathname that contains a drive specifier consists of the drive letter followed by ":" and possibly followed by "\" if the pathname is absolute. [JBoss-user] [JCA/JBoss] - Database resource leak in Jive Forums
I've been profiling the Jive forum software (running under JBoss 3.2.1) and have noticed that it isn't explicitly closing resultsets. It expects that closing the statement that the resultset was created from will close the resultset as well. While this is a Jive problem, I was wondering if JBoss will tolerate this behaviour or will it result in leaked database resources. Tomcat, for instance, won't tolerate this behaviour and will leak connections. Thanks for the tip. I did buy the JBoss Clustering book, and yes indeed it did solve my clustering issues. However, now I am stuck trying to integrate Apache 2.0 with JBoss 3.2.4RC2. I have Apache installed on WinXP and I have downloaded the Mod_JK2 connector ( the module is mod_jk2.so NOT mod_jk2.dll is this correct???) and installed it in the modules directory of Apache2. I have added the line to the end of the httpd.conf file: LoadModule jk2_module modules/mod_jk2.so BUT my problem begins with the creation of the workers2.properties file. In my case I have a JBoss cluster with instances on 2 separate computers (Box 1 IP = 192.168.100.33:8109, Box 2 IP = 192.168.100.34:8209) and jboss cluster-server.xml has entry of jvmRoute=jboss1 and jvmRoute=jboss2 respectively for each box above). I am confused as to how to configure the workers2.properties file (see below): [logger] level=DEBUG [uriMap:] info=Maps the requests. Well, our application essentially renders pages, which are constructed using many different kinds of entities, so a page render might involve 20-30 different entities. I replicate it by bookmarking about 15 different page render URLs and then loading them all simultaneously. I also see a javax.management.RuntimeMBeanException: RuntimeException in MBean operat ion 'invoke(org.jboss.invocation.Invocation)' error from time to time. I can catch these errors, though, and let my client (servlet) retry the render, which always works. I try and run these renders outside of a transactional context because doing so results in a lot of deadlock. thanks- View the original post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&p=3837553#3837553 Reply to the post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bb&op=posting&mode=reply&p=3837553 --- This SF.Net email is sponsored by the new InstallShield X. >From Windows to Linux, servers to mobile, InstallShield X is the one installation-authoring solution that does it all. If you disable farming you can manually decide which bean gets deployed where in your deployment descriptors. Or by simply deleting the correct archive in the deploy directory (this might remove other beans too of course, so be careful) If you don't want to give up the convenience of farming I think you'll have to implement your own load balancing policy (which is easier than you might think). I was thinkng that perhaps another way to achieve this would be to create a seperate jar file for my wrapper application and deploy that along with the jar files for the session beans in an ear file. thx for catching that build.xml problem. i'll fix that now. all of the bugs you reported have been fixed except for the MostPopularDownloads issue. i'll take a look at that tonight. i also fixed a couple problems w/ some table columns not being null and the downloads module now gets a category created by default when the table is created. i don't know if the faq module is working correctly, and won't be part of the 1.1 release. you have to deploy the permissions module seperately (just run a build deploy in the permissions directory). [JBoss-user] [Installation & Configuration] - Anomalous Database Manager Actions
I just installed JBoss and setup the database to use TCP. Using the Database Manager, I used a script to define some tables, and another script to add data. All seemed to work fine; the tables were listed in the left pane. When I clicked on a table, the Manager froze, and I had to close it via the task bar. The only way to return functionality to the Manager was to stop and restart JBoss, but if I clicked on a table, the Manager froze again. Am I doing something wrong, and if so, what? [JBoss-user] [Installation & Configuration] - How to HOT -deploy library jar files that JSP uses?
Hi! We have a need to hot-deploy jar files that are used by jsp files. It would be very valuable that we wouldn't have to reboot JBoss when we update a jar file. We have tried two things: 1. Place jar files to deploy/webapp/WEB-INF/lib. 2. Place jar files directly to deploy folder. In both cases the jar files work fine after restarting JBoss but hot-deploy does not work. [JBoss-user] [Clustering/JBoss] - Re: Cache invalidation throws EOFException
Ok, I found it myself. We used an own PK class with own write/readObject methods. Obviously this must not be. Without the writeObject / readObject method it works! Other things I learnt during testing: Invalidation works with BMP Entities and local interfaces! Unfortunately the just changed Entity is invalidated as well (although its new data is the reason for invalidation). Finally: this technique is a great relief for former self-built-cache programmers! Just use local interfaces, commit-option A and cache-invalidation set to true. BTW: JBoss offers so many container-configurations. Why not one for Standard BMPs with cache invalidation?
