[JBoss-user] [Beginners Corner] - Some problems and question from newbie
Deutschsprachige Antworten sind gern' gesehen Hello, I try JBoss 4.0.0 to use these at critical position in my company. I installed JBoss 4.0.0 under Win 2000. First I need to change the run.bat because some paths are false < grummel >. Now JBoss is running but not at all (?!). I try the link to web-console server path and get a ClassNotFoundException "org.jbos.aop.AspectManager. Ok I am a win(doof) user and hope a installation package are complete. Is it right - I need to download the aop package and install it (how?)? < grummel 2 > Apache are (among other things) used to create load balancing between some tomcat installations. May JBoss the same? [JBoss-user] [HTTPD, Servlets & JSP] - Re: Posting Again: Can Servlet automatically listen to user-
Thanx robisz. Understood this connector thing now. But about using HttpURLConnection, in my case, this will not be possible - my client is a pos terminal which dials on to a modem and which then passes on to some server's specific port. Including a URL is not possible in this scenario. I am trying this out - do u think if I extend GenericServlet and write something on my own, that may help - will i still need to access the servlet through some URL? Or I can then expect an automatic call to my process function? [JBoss-user] [Beginners Corner] - Re: JBOSS start-up problem
Hi, I don't think using the PrefixDeploymentSorter would be the best way since SAR's are the first to be deployed when using the default DeploymentSorter. What kind of application (SAR, EAR, JAR) are you using. Does it work if you move your package from the /deploy folder and back after JBoss started up? [JBoss-user] [Messaging, JMS & JBossMQ] - TemporaryTopic Leak or Hung Client with HTTPIL
Environment: JBoss 3.2.6/JDK 1.4_05/Win2K Server/JMS using HTTPIL Scenario: A client creates and subscribes to a temporary topic. The client then exits without deleting the temporary topic. Problem: The temporary topic still exists on the server (leaked) along with any unclaimed messages and any future messages posted to that topic. Investigation Details: Due to the asynchronous nature of the HTTPIL connection, there is no way for the server to directly detect demise of a client and clean up temporary destinations created by that client. Any temporary destinations left behind by a client upon exit are leaked (along with any messages left on those destinations). One can plug in a ClientMonitorInterceptor to time out inactive connections, which will effect cleanup of temporary destinations, but this is not without its own problems. Timing out a connection by this means does invoke the asynchClose() method on the Connection bject on the client. But, that method does nothing. So, there is no way for the HTTPClientILService.run() method to detect that the connection has been closed (in the case where the connection is closed but the client is still receiving on it). Further, the HTTPClientILService.run() method does not check to see if the Connection has closed anyway. The HTTPClientILService.run() continues looping making calls to the HttpILServerServlet to pick up any waiting messages even after the ClientConnectionMonitor has closed the connection. The result is that the client is unable to detect closure of the connection and does not receive a failure notification from the receive call as might be expected. Another issue is that the HTTPIL does not implement pings so there is no automatic way to keep the connection alive if there is no traffic on the connection (on a dormant connection, the ClientMonitorInterceptor would eventually close the connection). Setting the PingPeriod in the jboss-service.xml service descriptor is ineffective due to the following overriding code in HTTPServerILService.startService() : public void startService() throws Exception { super.startService(); this.pingPeriod = 0;// We don't do pings. //... } Comments: If a "ping" of some sort is to be performed, it becomes the responsibility of the client application. Perhaps more desirable beahvior would be: 1) Connection-managed pinging to be supported for HTTPIL 2) Some means of notifying a listening consumer that the connection has timed out - why should a consumer be allowed to invoke the HTTPIlServerServlet and wait for messages that will never come (because the connection has been closed) Questions: Is this behavior to be considered a bug in the HTTPIL implementation, or merely an inconvenience that I should be able to devise a workaround for? Any suggestions on how best to handle this problem? [JBoss-user] [Installation & Configuration] - logging on jboss 4.0
We hava been using jboss 3.2.3 for some time. I tried to migrate to jboss 4.0. One thing I notice that logging does not work in jboss 4.0. I cannot get logging to work from our applications. [JBoss-user] [Management, JMX/JBoss] - AbstractDynamicMBean dependency on ejb container?
I have an mbean which is a child of mx4j.AbstractDynamicMBean which depends on a session bean. The deployment descriptor fragment below should cause it to not deploy until the EJB container deploys: | | jboss.j2ee:module=portblue.jar,service=EjbModule | | But the SweeperManager mbean's constructor is called before the ejb container is completely deployed, which is not my understanding of what should be happening. I have guessed that rather than the constructor, it is the start() lifecycle method that gets called when dependencies are ready. Is this the case, rather than the ctor? If it is the start() method, is there an easier way to hook into the JBoss JMX lifecycle methods than implementing the raw ServiceSupport interface? I notice there are abstract helper classes documented for ServiceMBeans, and that there is a similar helper for dynamic mbeans not documented anywhere, and which does not appear to do anything (org.jboss.mx.util.DynamicMBeanSupport). All of this is on JBoss 3.2.6. Any clues would be greatly appreciated. [JBoss-user] [Installation & Configuration] - Service Deployment Configuration
Hi, we require two jboss servers running with different beans deployed in each of them. One of the servers require JMS / Mail services and the other doesn't require them. We have configured JBoss in such a way that, we'll have the same root bin, lib, and deploy directories for both the servers and each server can simply make use of it's own conf/jboss-service.xml file to specify whether the running instance requires the services like JMS / Mail or not. But we figured out that the mail service is being picked up from the deploy/mail-service.xml (I couldn't figure out where JMS Service is getting deployed from , if it's not from the deploy/jms directory). So, this would require that, we maintain separate deploy/ directories for each server instance. What I am looking for is, if there is some way (using jboss-service.xml) in which I can say, I need this service to be deployed and not this one. This just requires me to have single installation of JBoss and separate conf/jboss-service.xml files for each server insance that has to run. Is this possible? Thanks, Kalyan. [JBoss-user] [Security & JAAS/JBoss] - Re: Entity Beans for DatabaseLoginModule
Scott, I thank you very much for your help on this issue!! Your responses on this forum are one of the main reasons I have been able to create a successful jboss application. I'm sure many others are in this boat too... Security was so easy to set up this way, I almost feel dirty. :) In case anyone wants to know, I'm running only two security entity beans: "Role" and "Principal". I'm using CMR to set up a many to many relationship between them, so there is a "Role_Principal" table in the middle. The principalQuery runs off of the "Principal" table. The rolesQuery runs off of the middle "Role_Principal" table. I just set up a simple session bean to allow creation/changing of users and roles, and everything is working sweetly. Initially, as Scott mentioned, you have to create an administrative account manually. I just set up a quick SQL query to create a password changer account that my users can run on install. Thanks again! When using commit option A, I guess there is no need for a container to flush data to the DB after a commit - after all, in commit option A the container has sole access to the DB. In chapter 5 J2ee web services, the ejb-jar.xml has the code like: TellerBean com.jboss.ebank.TellerEndpoint com.jboss.ebank.TellerBean Stateless Container ejb/account Session com.sun.ebank.ejb.customer.CustomerHome com.sun.ebank.ejb.customer.Customer The program runs smoothly. But, I am confused by the definitions within the : 1. ejb/account is defined as ejb-ref-name, I assume that it refers to AccountBean. But it is an entity bean, not a session bean. 2. CustomerHome and Customer are local interfaces for customer entity bean, how could they be put in the tag? Should and tags for remote interfaces? If I use the username and password in "jmx-console-users.properties" the login fails, but if I use the one in "user.properties" it succeeds. Furthermore, if I remove the "other" configuration from login-config.xml and go back to jmx-console, and error is logged with the message "No LoginModules configured for jboss.web". Unless I'm misunderstanding your question, I don't think you can do what you want to do. Each JBoss server is running it its own virtual machine, and the VM startup parameters (memory, etc) apply to the whole server instance. If you have two EARs which you want running in separate virtual machines, then I think you need to have two separate server instances. What makes you want to have the EARs in separate virtual machines? [JBoss-user] [JCA/JBoss] - Datasource failover with MySQL?
Hi, I am trying to set my datasource up so that if my primary database server goes down, the datasource will use the backup server. I am using: jboss-3.2.5 (default config) j2sdk1.4.2_04 mysql-max-3.23.55 red hat ews 3.0 mysql-connector-java-3.0.15 Here is the snippet from my datasource config file (mysql-ds.xml): MySqlDS jdbc:mysql://10.1.1.3:3306,10.1.1.4:3306/mydatabase?autoReconnect=true com.mysql.jdbc.Driver 5 20 10 false myusername mypassword 100 TRANSACTION_READ_COMMITTED I have tried using different connection-url parameter values (with and without the port numbers, etc) and some of the available options such as autoReconnect=true on the url. I have even tried the latest "development" version of the mysql connector which is supposed to have an autoReconnect for connection pools. But, still no luck. For my test, I start with the two database servers running. I start using my jboss app, then shutdown the localhost instance of mysql. When jboss goes for another connection, I get the following exception: Communication link failure: java.io.EOFException, underlying cause: null It looks to me that the connection pool is holding these closed connections. As a test, I pulled up the ManagedConnectionPool for my datasource using the jmx-console and invoked the flush() method. After doing this, jboss rebuilt the connection pool with connections from the other (back-up) server and everything was cool. My questions are: 1. I am missing something on the failover settings at the datasource level? 2. Assuming #1 just won't work the way I expected, is there a way to get a JNDI reference to the ManagedConnectionPool for my datasource so that I can trap the exception in my connection manager class and invoke the flush() method so the pool will be rebuilt? Any help is appreciated. Much thanks. "lac_raz" wrote : Have tou read the singleton discussion on TheServerSide.com ? Thanks for making me aware of this discussion. I *really* wish I had seen it before going down this path with Singletons. My original idea was to use an EntityBean instead of a Singleton, and from looking at this discussion that looks to be the concensus. Unfortunately as a new employee (and relative newbie to EJBs and JBoss) I didn't have the authority to make the design decision. And now that I've coded my application around Singletons I need to make them work, or somehow convince my manager to let me have the time to change course, which is not likely. I do (finally) have my application working well using Singletons, but it seems that a failure of the master node of my cluster will cause the Singletons to be created fresh on the new server, thereby losing the data needed by the application. Hopefully I can work this out, but really it seems that an Entity Bean approach is a much better idea. --James View the original post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&p=3852783#3852783 Reply to the post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bb&op=posting&mode=reply&p=3852783 --- This SF.net email is sponsored by: IT Product Guide on ITManagersJournal Use IT products in your business? [JBoss-user] [Installation & Configuration] - problem with classloader isolation in jboss 4.0 GA
Here's the scenario: I've got a logging package that is a wrapper around log4j. This package has its own configurator which talks to a centralized server to retrieve logging configuration information for the server instance. I never ran into a problem when running in Weblogic (they don't use log4j internally), but I've had some issues while porting to JBoss 4.0. The Wiki page on classloader configuration (http://www.jboss.org/wiki/Wiki.jsp?page=ClassLoadingConfiguration) seemed to offer the perfect solution, but I haven't been able to make it work completely. My test application is an EJB with a web service endpoint. The EJB jar is packaged inside an EAR, and the log4j jar is also packaged inside that EAR. Here's my jboss-app.xml: | | |sipstorm.com:loader=webserviceTest.ear | | java2ParentDelegation=false | | | | Logging is lazily instantiated upon the first application logging call. In debug mode, the first thing the logging package does is retrieve the log4j LoggerRepository and iterate through all loggers in the repository, printing out information about the loggers and what appenders are configured. When I run in Weblogic, the repository is empty on the first call, as expected. When running in JBoss (without isolating the classloader), all of the loggers configured by JBoss show up, which is also as expected. If I've done the classloader isolation correctly, my EAR should be using its own instance of the log4j classes, and therefore I should see a completely empty LoggerRepository. Unfortunately, I see all the same loggers already configured in the repository. Is there something I'm missing? Did I configure the classloader behavior incorrectly? [JBoss-user] [HTTPD, Servlets & JSP] - Classloader issue with hibernate deployment
Hi, I'm using JBoss 4.0 on Windows 2000 with JDK 1.4.2. I'm tring to deploy a web application that uses hibernate. This application has the hibernate 2.1 jar in it's web-inf/lib directory. The deployment is going to the standard server on Jboss. In the standard servers jbossweb-tomcat50.sar directory I have set the in the jboss-server.xml file the following parameters: Java2ClassLoadingCompliance to true UseJBossWebLoader to false I have also added a jboss-web.xml file to the web-inf directory of the deployment as follows: xplanner xplanner:loader=xplanner.war java2ParentDelegation=false In the standard server there is a hibernate.jar file in the lib directory. What I thought would happen with this configuration is that the hibernate.jar file in the web app's lib directory would be used as opposed to the one in the standard servers lib directory. This is not happening. The hibernate.jar from the standard servers lib directory is being used. This is causing other class loading issues (NoClassdefFound). Is this the correct configuartion? If you want to use other persistance some examples are in the ./docs/examples/jms directory. with kind regardsWolf View the original post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&p=3852772#3852772 Reply to the post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bb&op=posting&mode=reply&p=3852772 --- This SF.net email is sponsored by: IT Product Guide on ITManagersJournal Use IT products in your business? As far as I understand it I can check if all necessary WebService components are up and accessible by typing into the browser the following URL: http://localhost:8080/jboss-net/servlet/AxisServlet This should work even if I did not deploy a real webservice. However when I tried to call this URL I got (from JBoss 3.2.5) the following response page: HTTP Status 404 - /jboss-net/servlet/AxisServlet type Status report message /jboss-net/servlet/AxisServlet description The requested resource (/jboss-net/servlet/AxisServlet) is not available. Why? This happens when I deploy a hello world webservice too. http://localhost:8080/jboss-net shows the same error. JBoss runs fine for JSPs and EJBs. I observed that axis.jar is located in the "all" subdirectory. In the past I deployed jars and wars for JSPs and EJBs into the "default" subdirectory". Do I have to pass a parameter to JBoss during the start in order to enable the Webservice feature inside? Is the built in Hypersonic DB the default storage for JMS messages? Or is the default storage the memory resp. a normal file? [JBoss-user] [Messaging, JMS & JBossMQ] - Message delivering during shutdown JBoss 3.2.4
We are using JBossMQ in catalog management project and during our load tests we have observed the following behaviour. On a shutdown of JBoss with JBossMQ a queue message is delivered more than ONCE. For reproduction we use the following szenario: One JBoss, no cluster One sender, many listeners are attached to the queue JBoss 3.2.6 downloaded zip unpack... and start (with default configuration) If I send a message and one listener executes the onMessage method while I start the JBoss shutdown then ALL listeners receive this message with a new message redelivered count. [JBoss-user] [JBoss.NET] - Reading soap body as a string in a Document style ws.
Hi, I don't know this might be an AXIS specific question, but you might have come across this. I would like to deploy a Document style web service and on the Server side I would like to read the Soap Body (payload: in my case a XML document) as a string and not as a DOM document/element. Of Course I could convert the DOM document in a String, but I would like to avoid the DOM parsing as my back end system provides parsing capability and I don't want to parse twice the same XML message. Is there a way I can do this or RPC is the only chance ? cheers. Giuseppe. Hi rimmeraj, I was under the impression that the getSession method of HibernateContext took in as a parameter a sessionfactory name and then passed back a session? In http://www.jboss.org/wiki/Wiki.jsp?page=JBossHibernate Session management it says: 'The central piece of the Hibernate Session management component in JBoss is the org.jboss.hibernate.HibernateContext class. HibernateContext exposes a static method named getSession() taking a String parameter which represents the jndi name of a SessionFactory?. If there is already a session bound to the "current context" for the given session factory name, then that session is returned; otherwise, a new session is generated, bound to the "current context", and then returned.' Is the information above incorrect, as I specifically want to pass a session back via hibernate and not ejb? many thanks Uzo View the original post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&p=3852755#3852755 Reply to the post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bb&op=posting&mode=reply&p=3852755 --- This SF.net email is sponsored by: IT Product Guide on ITManagersJournal Use IT products in your business? [JBoss-user] [EJB/JBoss] - Creating tables at startup
Hello everybody, I have a problem with JBoss 4.0 and the configuration of two databases. I use hsql for JBoss specific things like jms, etc. and as second database I have informix (for EJB-Access, etc.). I know that in the file /server/deploy/ebxmlrr-service.sar/META-INF/jboss-service.xml one can specify, if JBoss creates and drops tables during startup and shutdown. But only for one (default) datasource. At the moment, JBoss doesn't create tables in the hsql database, but creates tables that are named according to my EJBs in the informix database. How can I prevent JBoss from creating these tables? Thanks in advance. [JBoss-user] [Security & JAAS/JBoss] - Re: Questions about Custom Login Modules
Hi Minmay. I too noticed the discrepency regarding super.login. I actually made this the first call in my login module (subclass of abstractServerLoginModule). I notice that the UsernamePasswordLogin module also calls it first. As far as my understyanding goes (which is not very far as we dont support this yet) the shared state map is for password stacking i.e when you have multiple modules and you want the username/password to be passed through. I guess the useFirstPass mean use the username and password from the first login module. I currently dont stack them so its not a problem for me. Regards Lea. [JBoss-user] [Security & JAAS/JBoss] - Do I need to amend the ClientLoginModule?
Hi All, I have written my own custom login module which is working fine. This returns a custom principal instead of the SimplePrincipal which has an additional organisation attribute. However I was thinking in my EJB I could cast down to my custom principal and access the organisation accessor. e.g CustomPrincipal caller = (CustomPrincipal)(this.sessionContext.getCallerPrincipal()); Logger.info(caller.getOrganisation()); However I am getting a classcast exception as it appears I am still using SimplePrincipal. I think I I need to amend the ClientLoginModule to return this as well. Is this what everyone would expect? I have looked at the code for the ClientLoginModule and I assume I need to create a new callback to gather the organisation, construct my custom principal and provide this in the SecurityAssociation.setPrincipal call. However I am unsure if I need to invoke SecurityAssociation.setCredential(password) why is this used? Any help is much appreciated. Regards Lea. You can configure a connector on port 7001. Check your_jboss_conf/deploy/jbossweb-tomcat50.sar/server.xml. But if you want to use HttpServlet you must access it through http protocol, of course.
