[JBoss-user] [Installation Configuration] - Jboss4.0 Exceptions during the run.bat execution

2005-02-20 Thread dejudi
I've just installed jboss4.0 and even though the server starts, several
exceptions has been thrown is that normal? I'm not a JBoss expert but those
exceptions smells like Dynamic Proxies. Where can I find more about it?Is
there any forum thread that already covers this issue??

[JBoss-user] [Installation Configuration] - RPM / Source RPM

2005-02-20 Thread maimonoded
hi,
i wanted to know if you are going to create an rpm or a source rpm for jboss?
this will make life easier, not because installing jboss is hard, but because
in my organization
we install programs only with rpm's and every time a new version of jboss
released and we wish
to use it, we need to create an rpm so it will be able to install it with yum.

so? is it going to be an rpm for jboss?

[JBoss-user] [HTTPD, Servlets JSP] - War isolation

2005-02-20 Thread bunty6
Hi Everybody,
I wanted to enable war file isolation. I am having a lot of problems
with that. I have been reading up lot of messages in these forums. I have tried
various things like 'UseJBossWebLoader' and jboss-web.xml.
I am not sure which is the best way to do it. jboss-web.xml solution did not
work. 'UseJBossWebLoader' worked but it started giving me a problems like
ClassCastExceptions, IllegalAccessError and sometimes even my ActionServlet
fails to load. jboss-web.xml gave me problems with commons-logging.xml. I even
tried removing it from my lib.

Could somebody direct me and tell me which is the best way to enable war file
isolation? I have 3 War files and a single EJB Jar with MDB, with a few files
common to all. And a lot of mess when Iam looking up the common classes.
Iam using JBoss 3.2.6/Solaris running on a clustered environment, Struts1.1.
I have tried many things based on what I have read in this forum and other
places. And Iam lost.
Which is the best way to do it?

Thanks in advance,
K.B

Hi!

I believe you have to use wscompile if you want to create j2ee 1.4 compliant
webservices for JBossWS. If you are not happy with the classes generated by
wscompile for your schema, I suggest you create a webservice with wscompiles
-nodatabinding option and then use (for example) XMLBeans to do the
databinding.

good luck!

[JBoss-user] [Nukes User] - Re: Frustrating! What IS JBoss/Nukes?

2005-02-20 Thread sgwood

JBoss Nukes is a Java implementation of PHP Nukes. It provides a framework to
host multiple applications/modules, with a common login, security, look and
feel, deployment and other services. There are a number of standard JBoss Nukes
modules - forums, news, wiki (based on JSPWiki) etc - that are available, or
you can roll your own.

The next full version of this idea is a full portal implementtion (JSR168),
with a beta Real Soon Now. The Nukes framework will be left behind, but the
transition for Nukes themes and modules is hopefully going to be relatively
easy.

It look like a problem with your operating system charset.
My last name includes an umlat, and your encoding (EUC_CN) does not support
it.

try this at your command prompt and then build it again:
export LANG=en_US.UTF-8

I'll change the umlats to a normal u if this is a problem for more people.

[JBoss-user] [Javassist user questions] - Howto instrument print(a.toString()) ?!?

2005-02-20 Thread sirrurg
Hi,

it seems i have discovered my problem now correctly, not as mentioned in
my last thread that the copy operation of methods seemed to fail.
No ... the problem lies somewhere else and i have figured out which
construct it caused.

If i have sth like this within a methodbody:

  |
  | new Exception(b.getValue());
  | ...
  |

and i want to replace the call of b.getValue() by sth like this

  | if(){
  |// get method with java reflection mechanism
  | }else{
  |// call old method
  | }
  |

But at the moment i have also no clue why this is the case.
Does Javassist have trouble in translating sth like this ?!?

  |  java.lang.reflect.Method  method = $0.getClass().getMethod(say,
null);
  |  method.invoke($0, null);
  |

Sincerely
Sirrurg

[JBoss-user] [Security JAAS/JBoss] - costum auth-method

2005-02-20 Thread FelderR
Hello,

I read a lot about custom LoginModules (at least I didn't do anything else
within the last 2 weeks), but did not found anything about custom auth-method
implementations.

The 'FORM' and 'BASIC' modules are very limited and do not fit our needs. Is
there a possiblity to write a custom FormAuthenticator that is not restricted
to two parameters (j_username and j_password).

How and where do we need to configure custom authentication modules? The result
should set the User Principal in Session scope so we can access it by calling
Session.getUserPrincipal.

Thanks for any help!
Rene

[JBoss-user] [Security JAAS/JBoss] - Re: MDB run-as and SessionContext.isCallerInRole inconsisten

2005-02-20 Thread twalsh2
Well, I have a workaround for anyone who encounters this problem. Its not the
prettiest solution.

Basically on another SLSB, I create a local method called checkCallerAdmin.
Then in my code where I want to do a

SessionContext.isCallerInRole(Administrator);

I call

otherSLSB.checkCallerAdmin()

The checkCallerAdmin method is set up to only allow callers with the role of
Administrator. Basically, it has a

 * @ejb.permission role-name = Administrator

XDoclet tag. If my caller is not an Admin, I get a LocalAccessException which
I can catch and use that fact to identify that the caller in the Administrator
role.

It works, but the biggest drawback is that you are calling another EJB method,
so you need to go through the entire interceptor chain (in order to get the the
Security Interceptor) in order to get the check to occur. This probably will
perform poorer than a direct call to:

sessionContext.isCallerInRole(Administrator);

I'd still be interested in hearing from someone from JBoss as to wether this
behavior is by design or is a bug.

[JBoss-user] [Persistence CMP/JBoss] - How do you handle CMR with non-nullable fields and not using

2005-02-20 Thread hirowla
How do you handle CMR with non-nullable fields and not using cascade-delete?

I have three beans A, B and C. A is 1:1 with B and 1:many with C. The foreign
key in A that represents B is non-nullable (obviously, no fields exists in A
that represents C). Now I create a record in A and C, then delete A (the record
in C points to the record in A).

For the A-C relationship, I use batch-cascade-delete. So from the logs, it says
Scheduled for batch-cascade-delete. So there is no problem there.

For the A-B relationship, the container is setting the relevent field to NULL -
this causes a foreign key violation error.

Is there any way to handle this generally? Can I postpone the NULL setting
action (preferably never to be done, as the entity is about to disappear)? Or
do I have to abandon CMR (I cannot change the database - besides, it makes no
sense to)?

Thanks,

Ian

[JBoss-user] [Installation Configuration] - Log4j Hibernate debug messges

2005-02-20 Thread grungy
Hi,

I'm using Jboss 4.0.0 and hibernate 2.1.8 deployed as a har archive.
I used to managed hibernate session myself i.e closing and opening them.
but now i'm using HibernateContext to do that. For transactions i'm using CMT
as i'm using ejbs

Before using HibernateContext, each time something goes wrong when updating the
database (constraints violation ...)
or the hibernate mapping was not properly used, i get an exception with an
explicit message about the error.
Now that i'm using HibernateContext, this does not happen anymore and the only
message that i get each time i commit the transaction is:

[TransactionSynch] Error fushing session.

This becomes very difficult to debug.

I went through jboss and hibernate forum/docs to find a solution on how to
configure the log4j.xml file to display hibernate
debug messages, i couldn't find a solution though.

I configured the threshold of the console appender to DEBUG,

   appender name=CONSOLE class=org.apache.log4j.ConsoleAppender
  | errorHandler class=org.jboss.logging.util.OnlyOnceErrorHandler/
  | param name=Target value=System.out/
  | param name=Threshold value=DEBUG/
  | layout class=org.apache.log4j.PatternLayout
  | param name=ConversionPattern value=%d %-5p [%c] %m%n/
  | /layout
  |/appender
  |
  | root
  | appender-ref ref=CONSOLE/
  |/root

I added the following categories but still, nothing gets displayed.

   category name=net.sf.hibernate
  | priority value=DEBUG/
  |/category
  |
  |
  | category name=org.jboss.hibernate
  | priority value=DEBUG/
  |/category
  |
  | category name=org.jboss.resource
  | priority value=DEBUG/
  |/category
  |
  | category name=org.jboss
  | priority value=DEBUG/
  |/category

I even tried to use the TRACE level for my categories, no luck though

Is there a way to around this problem ? i really tried for days everything i
could do.

btw is there a way to for hibernate log.properties file ???

   thx in advance

[JBoss-user] [Performance Tuning] - Re: Hypothesis: JBoss is slow compared to BEA

2005-02-20 Thread rupfsw
Thanks Joachim for your kind reply and suggestions and thanks Juha we are
thinking of that.

Our application is a big enterprise application where there can be upto 500 or
more user transaction simultaneously.

We have done the test using JMeter,Load Runner with 500 virtual users.

Tuning
We have done the best use of the wiki
http://www.jboss.org/wiki/Wiki.jsp?page=JBossASTuningSliming
But we are using JBoss 3.2.3. Do everybody think that JBoss 3.2.6 can be a best
option.

32bit 64 bit
At present we are using 32bit machines with Windows platform.
How best it can be with 64 bit.Do anybody have some sample results.

Trimming
We have avoided unused configuration settings and war files.
and other than default configuration we are using run -c all for clustering.

VM
We have tried jdk1.3,jdk1.4 and jrockit in which the performace of jrockit
found faster,
For weblogic 5.1 we have used jdk1.3 only.

This is the vm configuration we applied for development purpose.
 -Xms386m -Xmx786m -XX:+UseParallelGC -XX:+UseAdaptiveSizePolicy
The GC methods not found much useful.
The same -Xms386m -Xmx786m we have applied for Weblogic 5.1
We are testing with -Xms786m -Xmx1024m and we will post the results of
JBoss3.2.3 vs WL5.1

Class loader isolation
Thanks for suggesting this option. We were yet to try optimisation here.
to Joachim Juha :If you are having more suggestion regarding this please let
us know,
So lets this topic be an interesting one for all JBoss fans.

Thanks
Rasp

[JBoss-user] [Installation Configuration] - JBoss Custom Application loader

2005-02-20 Thread sandipanbasu
I dont know whether this is the right forum to post the question or not.

My question is :
Can I write a custom class loader in JBoss App server ? My basic requirement is
to write a custom application loader with will first load some jar files from
some remote machine and then will be loading the application. This jar files
should not be made visible by any other application deployed in the JBoss
server. The class loader should also be a component of the application itself.

Say for example : The application name is App1.

Ideal scenario

1) JBoss boots up
2) It tracks all the applications
3) Reads some conf (or xml file) to trace the class loader name from App1
4) Adds the class loader to the Loader Repo
5) When JBoss feels it should load the applications i.e application loading
step comes, it should detect that there is a custom loader associated to the
application App1 and transfers control to it.The loader will load accordingly.

I really have no idea how this can be achieved. But if app servers provides
extension to there class loader repo then each application can have their
custom loaders if needed.

Any suggestion would be highly appreciated.

suggestion can also be fwd to : [EMAIL PROTECTED]

[JBoss-user] [Messaging, JMS JBossMQ] - Re: MDB Stops processing messages

2005-02-20 Thread drvodka02
Hi,
I examined concurrent.jar from both JBoss 4.0.0 and JBoss 3.2.5. Both of these
have the same version of concurrent.jar (ie: 1.3.3) but with different file
sizes -
JBoss 4.0.0 - 165 KB
JBoss 3.2.5 - 168KB

For the same MDB issue as reported by Karthik in earlier posts, I want to
replace my concurrent.jar in JBoss 3.2.1. Could anybody let me know, which jar
should i use...one with JBoss 4.0 or the one with JBoss 3.2.5..?

Also, I could not find ver 1.3.4 for the same. Is it advisable to use that with
my JBoss 3.2.1...?

Thanks

you can get 1.3.4 from the source
http://gee.cs.oswego.edu/dl/classes/EDU/oswego/cs/dl/util/concurrent/intro.html
and apply it. That is what i did.
