[JBoss-user] [Beginners Corner] - Web Svcs and .NET compatability: documentliteral encoding vs
Good day, Problem: JBOSS based web service using document literal encoding is much more cumbersome for the client side than my prior Axis 1.2 based web service that utilized soapenc. Background: I am currently migrating development to Java and initially took advantage of Axis 1.2 for it's ease of developing web services. My web services interop'd fine with legacy VB6 apps utilizing PocketSOAP and recent .NET clients worked great as well. Now, step 2 is to move onto an appliction server. I have diligently followed the example in Chapter 12 of the JBOSS Admin guide to develop a sample web service. The problem, however, is I could not use the service from .NET or VB6. After looking around it seems the recomendation is to use the f:documentliteral option on ws-compile and while this works it seems much more awkward to deal with. Now the client is dealing with a complex type to define the methods and another complex type to accept the result. This makes the client coding much more awkward and less intuitive (therefore slower, less productive). Question: Can you please direct me to documentation and perhaps an example that provides the interoperability needed with the simplicity of the client interface (using soapenc) I had with Axis 1.2? Environment: JBOSS 4.0.2 Windows XP Pro Java 1.5 Dev Studio 2003 Thanks for any assitance! [JBoss-user] [JBoss Portal] - Re: User preferences with LDAP integration
yes, you can help here and I think it is not too much difficult to do. the best place to do that is in head of cvs (jboss portal 2.2). The jaas module we use is ModelLoginModule. This login module uses the UserModule (which is not a jaas login module but a portal service) to find the user to log in. If the user does not exist it could create it using the same service (UserModule). Also you have to use password stacking that allows you to pass information between login modules. A good reading is : http://docs.jboss.com/jbossas/admindevel326/html/ch8.chapter.html#d0e15066 View the original post : http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&p=3897261#3897261 Reply to the post : http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bb&op=posting&mode=reply&p=3897261 --- SF.Net email is sponsored by: Tame your development challenges with Apache's Geronimo App Server. [JBoss-user] [JCA/JBoss] - Current MySQL JCA Best Practice ?
Due to some odd circumstances, I updated a JBoss 3.2.(4/5/6) to 4.0.2, but was unable to run tests which used a MySQL JDBC resource. I've recently run those tests, and while they used to work, I am now getting a NoClassDefFoundError on java.io.BufferedOutputStream from the MySQL driver. I assumed this is some sort of classloader peculiarity, and I found a post in the wiki saying that DataSource drivers now had to be in server/default/lib rather than server/default/deploy, where my install had been putting it. My question is whether this behavior change was intended, and if so, whether I should be doing anything else differently. When I set this up, the procedure was to put the driver JAR and the -ds file into server/default/deploy. Now, looking on the wiki under JCA, I find lots of references to RARs, and I'm wondering whether just moving the jar to lib will fix everything. When I did that, my JDBC accesses seemed to work OK, but I had tons of ApplicationDeadlockExceptions in the JBoss log. Can I get a first-level opinion on this before I start posting diagnostic info ? [JBoss-user] [JBossCache] - Re: JbossCache with Oracle 10g cluster - exception=java.lang
The API you want to use is activateRegion(String fqn), which 1) fetches state from another node on the cluster for the subtree rooted at fqn, and 2) enables marshalling for the subtree. _getState is the internal call one node makes to another when it needs a partial state transfer. This call should come after your call to registerClassLoader. Another call you may want to add is treeCache.setInactiveOnStartup(true), before your call to createService(). This will prevent the cache handling any replication messages for an fqn until an activateRegion() call has been made for the fqn or one of its parents. Without this, if another node tries to replicate some data in the /incivinci subtree before you can call registerClassLoader, you will get errors. The web.xml is a standards based descriptor so should not require any alterations unless you have referenced any Tomcat or Weblogic specific classes. After starting the JBoss server if you did not pass any arguments to the run script you should place the war file in {jboss.home}/server/default/deploy and the war will be automatically deployed. You can place the war in the deploy folder either before starting JBoss or after you have started JBoss. [JBoss-user] [JBossCache] - Re: JbossCache with Oracle 10g cluster - exception=java.lang
This problem arises because the initial state transfer is set to true. And during the initial state transfer, there is no way for JBossCache to know which classloader to use. Solution is to: 1. Turn off initial state transfer (fetchStateTransfer to false) 2. You will need to specifically get the partial state from the other node. We have a new API for this: _getState(Fqn fqn); We will document this in the final 1.2.4 release (coming up in 1.5 weeks). Meanwhile, please check out under JBossCache_1_2_4 branch now and you will see. Please let me know if there is additional problem. -Ben View the original post : http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&p=3897244#3897244 Reply to the post : http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bb&op=posting&mode=reply&p=3897244 --- SF.Net email is sponsored by: Tame your development challenges with Apache's Geronimo App Server. I certainly hope so, but I can't make any commitments at this time. The nice thing is that portlets aren't tightly coupled to the portal release cycle (only to some degree), so they might not be ready for the 2.2 release, but you might get them before the end of the year. But as I said, no promises. [JBoss-user] [EJB/JBoss] - Constantly Changing DB Design, J2EE, AS
We have a large number of "applications" that will be moved from Access to Java/J2EE/MS SQL or DB2. The plan is to create database(s) that will be modified as needed whenever new related data is found. This will produce a merged DB instead of the mess of 500+ small databases all using some form of the same data. I want to isolate the new applications from the DB changes. I don't want to change the Application every time a major DB change happens. I think J2EE and JBoss AS will help me do this but I'm not sure this will work right. Actually, I'm not sure how to implement this at all. Can someone give me a clue? I obviously don't have one ! Thanks. [JBoss-user] [JBoss Portal] - Re: JBoss Portal vs. LifeRay and eXo
they will! It simply took us a lot longer than anticipated to free up some resources to port these portlets. We are actively working on this effort, so I hope we can publish some early versions not too far in the future. However, I want to caution people: We have bigger plans with our portlets, so we need to ensure a substantial set of functionalities in the framework. We're converting a set of 5 portlets to start with so we can find the missing pieces in the current portal framework. Once the missing pieces are identified, we need to fix those areas first before we can move on and migrate the bigger bulk of portlets. Since our resources are just now coming up to speed, this process will take some time. I hate to put more promises out there, but that's all I can say for now. It will take longer, but you'll get better quality and much more functionality whenever it is ready. Once we have a template for the migration of our portlets, we'll open this up to a more agile model. Perhaps we can get some help migrating ? ;) and just to mention some of the functionalities we're looking at ( don't take this as a guaranteed feature list though !): * localization * typed preferences * scripting support for portlets and preferences * ajax (that one actually throughout the portal...) So: no more promises, you'll simply have to wait until we're ready, but the good news is that we're working on it. If you can't do a full upgrade, then it's probably a pretty complicated job. You may be able to create your own 3.2.3 with the serialization fixes from a later release. [JBoss-user] [Messaging, JMS & JBossMQ] - Re: Queue Performance
No CPU overhead, unless you have multiple consumers, and each consumer uses a thread or two. On several installs, we use 100+ queues with no problem. JBossMQ is weak when it comes to large messages and more messages than can fit within memory. Also, client thread management isn't so hot -- reportedly. [JBoss-user] [Installation, Configuration & Deployment] - How to reload login-config.xml
Hello. If I make changes to login-config.xml I *think* I have to restart the jboss server in order to pick them up. Is this true? I am talking about JBoss 3.2.3 for myself. My goal is to make a web app that I can deploy without restarting the server for each new customer that I have. I have 90% of the stuff inside the WAR file and the deploy directory so no problem there. No need to restart. However, just a couple things are outside of that and I think this means I have to restart. The one thing inside login-config.xml is the SQL queries for the users and roles that are associated with my security domain. Any ideas how I might deploy or update this configuration without bouncing the server? My apologies everyone. I was trying to run a testCase in Eclipse, but it kept bombing out on me and thought there was some "special way" of unit-testing JBoss security. [JBoss-user] [Installation, Configuration & Deployment] - Setting Tomcat heap size in virtual hosts on JBoss 4.0.2
At work we are running Atlassian Jira and Confluence under the same JBoss 4.0.2 AS instance on Windows 2000 Server, but the heap size in the JVM that each is (or both are?) running under is set to 64 MB. We want to change this to 128 MB to give both of them more breathing room (since they run out of memory in about four hours, depending on usage). How do we configure the heap size for the instance(s) of Tomcat that are running each WAR in its own virtual host? Setting "-Xmx128m" in ${JBOSS_HOME}/bin/run.bat doesn't help since that sets JBoss' heap size, not the heap size of the Tomcat instances. Thanks! [JBoss-user] [Security & JAAS/JBoss] - custom login module with tomcat
Hello, We use a custom (JAAS) login module, which builds a custom prinicipal. When logging in as a remote client, everything works fine. The client-side JAAS login module communicates with the server-side login module, the login is performed and the prinicipal is authenticated against our own login-"domain-logic". Now we would like to use the same server-side login module to authenticate and authorize a web client. The web client will run in tomcat embedded in the same JBoss instance. How can we configure tomcat (embedded in JBoss) to use our login modules? We have the web application in the same security domain (in jboss-web.xml) as our ejb-application (in jboss.xml). We have an "application-policy" in the "login-context.xml". How does tomcat know which application-policy to apply and where will it store the subject the login context will provide? [JBoss-user] [Installation, Configuration & Deployment] - ClassLoader Issue
I am trying to deploy some new Application code into our JBoss application. Our developers work using JBoss 3.2.5 but the platform onto which it is deployed is JBoss 3.2.1. We've had no problem with this until now, when we introduce some Application code that uses org.apache.commons.HttpClient. This jar is included at the very top of the JBoss tree: {jboss-root}/lib. In 3.2.1, commons-httpclient.jar is 51KB and it's manifest identifies it as implementation version 1.0.16. In 3.2.5, the jar is 214KB and its manifest identifies it as 2.0-rc1. The result of running in this environment is IncompatibleClassChangeError being thrown when our class that imports httpclient classes is first loaded. It is possible that we could compile our code against the older version of httpclient and get it to work. Then if we stopped putting commons-httpclient.jar in our war file, it might work. But since the two versions of httpclient are so radically different, I'd rather go the other way if possible and avoid problems caused by now running the application code against an older version of HttpClient than it was developed against. That is, for just this one class, bypass normal class loading and load the version in WEB-INF/lib. Will this work, and if so, how do I make it happen, and if not, what other alternatives do I have? I created a simple WAR after seeing your reply, and it seems to work without having to do the encoding conversion. Now I kind of suspect the problem was caused by Struts, as the application in my first question was built with Struts. I have sent the application to your email, really appreciate your help. [JBoss-user] [EJB/JBoss] - Re: Problems with a primary-key from an entity-bean
I have solved the problem. The spec says about compound primary keys: The names of the fields in the primary key class must be a subset of the names of the container-managed fields. I have missed to create the primary key class fields as container-managed fields. Furthermore I have figured out, that JBoss or HSQLDB or whoever do not like primary key class fields with the name position. After I have changed the name position to another name, the deployment was successful. I don't know why the name position breaks my deployment, but now it works, I hope. [JBoss-user] [Beginners Corner] - How to interpret the release notes and issue details
Hi, I was trying to figure out which bugs are still available in a JBoss AS delivery (exactly V4.0.2) by the help of the release notes. Unfortunaltely I had some problems to interpret the issue details that are shown when I follow a link in the release notes. Maybe some of you is willing to explain me that stuff. Thank you very much in advance. The main questions I have: 1. What is the order of the deliveries? Is it that final comes after RC, or vice versa? 2. Does 'Affected Versions' mean that since this version the bug exist, or was found? Or does it mean that only in that specified version the bug exists? 3. Does 'Fix Versions' mean that since this version the documented bug is fixed (in case the bug status is closed)? 4. If point 2 and 3 are as I think, how can it be that affected versions list the same version as fix version does (e.g. JBAS-2)? Thx m8. Then I added my custom log4j.xml in my WEB-INF/classes. In my custom log4j file, I put a different logging pattern and appenders from the ones in the conf/jboss-log4j.xml. The beans that you are creating have the following dependencies in the direction of the arrow NoTxCM --> ManagedConnectionPool --> ManagedConnectionFactory i.e. The NoTxCM depends on the ManagedConnectionPool etc You therefore need to stop/destroy the beans and remove them so that the dependencies are not broken: | ObjectName mcFactoryName = new ObjectName("jboss.jca:service=ManagedConnectionFactory, name=MyDS"); | ObjectName mcPoolName = new ObjectName("jboss.jca:service=ManagedConnectionPool, name=MyDS"); | ObjectName txConManagerName = new ObjectName("jboss.jca:service=NoTxCM,name=MyDS"); | | // stop and destroy in the order of dependencies | stopAndDestroyMBean(mcFactoryName); | stopAndDestroyMBean(mcPoolName); | stopAndDestroyMBean(txConManagerName); | | // remove in the reverse order of dependencies | removeMBean(txConManagerName); | removeMBean(mcPoolName); | removeMBean(mcFactoryName); | | // create in the reverse order of dependencies | createManagedConnectionFactory(mcFactoryName); | createManagedConnectionPool(mcPoolName, mcFactoryName); | createTxConManager(txConManagerName, mcPoolName); | | private void stopAndDestroyMBean(ObjectName name) throws Exception { | ObjectName serviceControllerName = new ObjectName( | "jboss.system:service=ServiceController"); | | if (getServer().isRegistered(name)) { | getServer().invoke(serviceControllerName, "stop", | new Object[] { name }, | new String[] { "javax.management.ObjectName" }); | getServer().invoke(serviceControllerName, "destroy", | new Object[] { name }, | new String[] { "javax.management.ObjectName" }); | } | } | | private void removeMBean(ObjectName name) throws Exception { | | ObjectName serviceControllerName = new ObjectName( | "jboss.system:service=ServiceController"); | | if (getServer().isRegistered(name)) { | getServer().invoke(serviceControllerName, "remove", | new Object[] { name }, | new String[] { "javax.management.ObjectName" }); | } | } | View the original post : http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&p=3897100#3897100 Reply to the post : http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bb&op=posting&mode=reply&p=3897100 --- SF.Net email is sponsored by: Tame your development challenges with Apache's Geronimo App Server. [JBoss-user] [JBossWS] - How to go about?
Hello, I am trying to build and use a JAX-RPC webservice using JBOSS 4.0.3RC1. I would like the webservice to have the possibility to upload and download files. I think I have found a way using JAX-RPC handlers. I must add a handler on the client and on the server side. The server side was not a problem. I am now trying to add/use a handler on the client application (Webstart Swing). I do not know however how to do this. I have tried doing it programmatically but the JBOSS classes throw an unsupported exception when I call the handlerRegistry. I have created an application-client.xml file but I do not see how that might help since I am not able to use it. I must say however that I am trying to address my webservice without using JNDI. I only want to use the HTTP port. Is this possible? Or do I have to use the lookup from the server's JNDI tree? [JBoss-user] [Management, JMX/JBoss] - Re: MBean deployment problem!!!!
I am deploying it as sar. mycustombean.sar conatins META-INF/jboss-service.xml (contains the MBean description) and the MBean. I followed the excample from : http://wiki.jboss.org/wiki/Wiki.jsp?page=ExampleHelloWorldService P.S. I did correct the Mbean to MBean. [JBoss-user] [Clustering/JBoss] - Re: cluster windows 2 nodes single machine
There are several ways to configure multiple nodes on a single Windows machine. 1) If you have multiple IP addresses (e.g., wired and wireless connections), you can start each node using a separate IP address. For example - run.bat -c node1 -b 168.1.68.100 2) You can use the service-bindings manager to specify different ports for the JBoss services. A sample bindings file is provided at ../docs/examples/binding-manager/sample-bindings.xml. This file contains port assignments for servers named ?ports-default?, ?port-01? and ?port-02?. Copy the file to a new location and change the server names in the file to match your installation. Then modify the your ../conf/jboss-service.xml file for each server to specify the use of the service binding manager. Uncomment the ServiceBindingManager mbean and provide the server name. You can hardcode it or use a variable name such as ${jboss.server.name}. You also need to specify the binding file location (e.g., ${jboss.home.url}/server/server-bindings.xml). Use of the service binding manager is described in the JBoss Admin and Devt Guide. [JBoss-user] [Beginners Corner] - Must See: good for any problem!!
I am a newbie to JBoss, I had problems doing work with JBoss v 4.0.2. I have watched many of the forum pages to find problem with JBoss v 4.0.2. That may be because most of us use default configuration to deploy our applications. However the default config is not fully J2EE complient. This is troublesome especially if you are new to JBoss. To make it fully J2EE Complient, you have to make some changes to the configuration XML files. This you may get from 'whatsnew.pdf' for JBoss4.0.x. Most Common problems include: ClassCastExcetioon | ServletException | NamingException Cheers!!! [JBoss-user] [JBossWS] - Re: How to use a Client side handler
Ok? Via the application-client.xml? And how do I use that file. I mean how can I specify that my client application should use that? My client is a Java Swing application! And I need to have a handler in order to pass some attachments along with my Jax-RPC calls. [JBoss-user] [Beginners Corner] - Re: Problem Servlet Communicating with Session Bean in JBoss
I have finally got the solution to my problem. Actually the problem is not with my application config uration or programming. Infact, JBoss 4.0.x comes with the 'default' configuration that is not fully J2EE Compatible (in order to make it efficient). Some changes have to be made for the default config to be fully J2EE complient. These changes are available on the 'whatsnew.pdf' for JBoss 4.0.x. Cheers!!
