[JBoss-user] [The Lizzard's corner] - Re: Non-native English speaker ambiguities
Tell me about growing up in a commonwealth nation, "cast in stone" education using Queen's english AND then realizing in the IT professional life that American English speakers can suddenly laugh at the terms you use, unknowingly in your conversation. Eg: I am not cribbing about it, Where is the loo, the weather is balmy (no stress on the 'el'), should I say Flat or Apartment, write programme/program, write colour/color. The list of conflicts is long and there is no macro-programmers' dictionary that can solve these amibiguous words/connotations. Sorry this was a personal post, which does not add anything to the thread. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commonwealth_of_Nations View the original post : http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&p=3910498#3910498 Reply to the post : http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bb&op=posting&mode=reply&p=3910498 --- This SF.net email is sponsored by: Splunk Inc. When possible, the JBoss team should use precise language such as "established" or "contract" or "immutable" some non-ambiguous word that more readily translates into other languages. I wonder if there's some sort of "programmer's dictionary" that we can all use? [JBoss-user] [Microcontainer] - Re: Some use cases and questions
So I see this as a heavy overlap in that all of the functionality you describe will exist in the microcontainer as used by jboss5. The reply I gave to Charles on "Design of MC for Bean configuration" (http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&t=73288) also overlaps here. Also, have you navigated to the kernel design wiki page? http://wiki.jboss.org/wiki/Wiki.jsp?page=JBossKernel The current disconnects are just in terms completeness with respect to the level of usage you are starting at. For example: 1. hotdeployment is an interaction of bean (monitor + deployer) similar to what we have today. Only a deployer notion exists currently. 2. this is possible, but the term "service configuration" is an overloaded term thinking of the existing jboss-service.xml mbean service in that the configuration are the attribute associated with the mbean declaration, and changing this in jboss4 involves redeployment of the service. Decoupling declaration of a service from its configuration metadata is fundamental notion in the mc. The configuration for services/beans that should be installed to the mc is the profile service in the kernel design related pages (http://wiki.jboss.org/wiki/Wiki.jsp?page=JBossKernelConfiguration). 3. Yes, this is an aspect of the metadata repository that I'm currently working on. This does not exist at all implementation wise, but is what I'm currently working on. The metadata repository is a store of pojo metadata with a hierarchical namespace. The hierarchical structure defines the level at which the metadata is introduced/loaded: THREAD, REQUEST, SESSION, DEPLOYMENT, APPLICATION, SERVER, CLUSTER, DOMAIN The are two elements to your usecase: a. repository loaders: how data from a given level is loaded. b. a management aspect that ties together that runtime modification of data at a given level needs to be written to a particular store. All of what you are talking about intersects with the mc notions. [JBoss-user] [JNDI/Naming/Network] - Help with Quartz MBean Service under JBoss using JNDI?
I am calling scheduler from a Java Console application. JBoss is running on localhost. I am trying to use Quartz Scheduler that has been deployed as a Service under JBoss using the supplied MBean service.xml. In the JBoss logs, I can clearly see that Quartz service is created and an instance of scheduler was also created. Log: QuartzService(Quartz) created. As Quartz is the default JNDI name, I am using below code and my scheduler is always null. Any help is really appreciated. Code: Hashtable env = new Hashtable(); env.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY, "org.jnp.interfaces.NamingContextFactory"); env.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL, "jnp://localhost:1099"); env.put(Context.URL_PKG_PREFIXES, "org.jboss.naming:org.jnp.interfaces"); InitialContext ctx = new InitialContext(env); Scheduler sched = (Scheduler) ctx.lookup("Quartz"); at this point my sched is always null. i am unable to figure out whats wrong. The way i am using JNDI?? please advise... See the jboss-development list archives. http://wiki.jboss.org/wiki/Wiki.jsp?page=JBossDeveloperChannels a) is really an ambiguous question because its an implementation detail of the deployer processing the descriptor. It could be the same as today where a redeployment occurs, it could "know" that changes only affected attributes and update the metdata or try to pass these to the beans management interface, etc. In short, this behavior is not a fixed design element at this point. b) See some of the class diagrams out here under (Class Diagrams for Evolving JBoss5): http://wiki.jboss.org/wiki/Wiki.jsp?page=JBossKernel Also from this page, one of the main design issues is to have a POJO based model at the lowest level, so fundamentally xml is irrelevant. Its just one supported configuration mechanism. c+d) At the lowest level this notion does not exist. It comes into play at the level of the metadata repository + that aspects associated with the path being used to update the state (jmx, some other management interface). In general the notion of the repository is that the bean metadata can be obtained from a collection of sources at different levels from class annotations, deployment descriptors, serve defaults, admin defaults, etc. Because there is no hard coupling between a bean and its management interface (as is the case with the jmx based mc), this question can't be answered. There will be support for using jmx as the management view of course. Your first big disconnect between the way things are done today(jboss4) vs how jboss5/Microcontainer will behave is that the bundled deployment descriptors should not be viewed as something that is manipulated by the admin/management layer. This should be introducing overrides/defaults at a layer above the application deployment level. My argument is that if we need all these aforementioned technologies, we should go with an Application Server (JBoss :-)) and get these services "out of the box". The group is having a very hard time attempting to glue all these pieces together, including making use of JBI (ServiceMix/Jencks/ActiveMQ). My position is that we should use Stateless Session EJBs for now (they would be much quicker to implement than all these independent technologies they are trying to glue together), with Hibernate-based DAOs on the backend, Web Services for SOA and wait until JBI matures. We have a business deadline and are falling very far behind. I think we may be "over-architecting" what appears to be a traditional reservation system. My questions are: 1) How does JBoss foresee the use of Spring and "Lightweight Containers" in the future? Is my thinking sound that we should stick with JBoss or will JBoss be rendered "obsolete" by Spring and JBI? 2) How will JBoss interact with Spring? What is the preferred way of it being used with JBoss? 3) What is JBoss future plans for JBI (our particular flavor is ServiceMix)? Should we wait until the technology matures and gains industry-wide acceptance and app servers incorporate this technology, especially with our risk-averse project requirement due to tight deadlines? As a Brit, I initially thought the emphasis of the asterisks implied sarcasm. I.e. *fixed* -> broken. But on closer reading the meaning "immutable contract" BTW "Cast in stone" pretty much means the same as "immutable contract" to me. In fact, I dumped the XDoclet and written the jboss-web manually and inserted the flushOnSessionInvalidation flag. It works fine. The ldap login module is mostly likely executing, as the JaasSecurityManager.LdapLogin log statements indicate that the correct security domain is being used. There is not much logging around the password validation as this can be viewed as leaking security info. Either write a basic test of the login config and add additional logging to the LdapExtLoginModule, or use a debugger to figure out what is going on. Many things can go wrong in the comparision, encryption, one-way hashing, different string encoding, etc. View the original post : http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&p=3910464#3910464 Reply to the post : http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bb&op=posting&mode=reply&p=3910464 --- This SF.net email is sponsored by: Splunk Inc. [JBoss-user] [JBoss Seam] - create=true as default of a component type (not for @In)
A while back I suggested that create=true be the default for @In. Gavin didn't think that would be very safe -- after further use I'd have to agree. create=false makes sense as the @In default. However, I can't get around the fact that in my use there are several component beans that are just "made to exist". It doesn't make sense that they don't exist. So I'm always having to specify create=true when they are injected which seems odd. I'd like to suggest making a new optional parameter to @Name that allows the component itself to specify its *default* injection creation behavior. So if "create" is not specified in the @In value, Seam will default to whatever is specified in this optional @Name parameter. Seems like the best of both worlds to me.. :) Ryan View the original post : http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&p=3910452#3910452 Reply to the post : http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bb&op=posting&mode=reply&p=3910452 --- This SF.net email is sponsored by: Splunk Inc. [JBoss-user] [The Lizzard's corner] - Non-native English speaker ambiguities
We have a lot of non-native English speaking developers/users participating in the jboss design discussions. One question I have is how much does ambiguous use of English as well as English idioms (an expression of a given language that is peculiar to itself grammatically or cannot be understood from the individual meanings of its elements, as in keep tabs on, http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=idiom) affect understanding. For example, a statement from this discussion thread: http://www.jboss.com/index.html?module=bb&op=viewtopic&p=3910198#3910198 is: anonymous wrote : | I discarded it, because it would have broken some of the plugin interfaces | that JBossMQ defined and *fixed* a long time ago. | The highlighted word fixed used here is ambiguous by itself. Its meaning in this context can be inferred from the context, but my question is, how clear is this sentence to non-native English speakers. Actually, I'm also interested in how clear this is to native English speakers, because as I said, I view this as ambiguous. Here is a poll to probe this question. [JBoss-user] [Security & JAAS/JBoss] - logout problem ....... please help
Hello, I have a problem with the logout functionality on my web application . it is a simple application that uses DatabaseServerLoginModule to login and uses invalidate() in the application and flushOnSessionInvalidation="true" in jboss-web.xml. also each page in the jsp has <%@ page session="false"%> on the very top and the session is opened (if needed) using HttpSession sess = request.getSession(false); where the sess would be used as session in the page. here is the web.xml snippet: | | | Protected Pages | /select.jsp | /dispatcher | /logout.jsp | /page.jsp | /Input.jsp | /Output.jsp | GET | POST | | | myRole | | | case: 1) the user logs into the select.jsp and is redirected to the login.jsp. via j_security_check 2) after successful login, the user is redirected to the select.jsp 3) the user does some browsing (on secure pages that are in the url-pattern listed above) 4) when the user wants to logout, the user clicks on a hyperlink logout, which redirects the user to a servlet to the logout method, see below: | private String logout(HttpServletRequest req, HttpServletResponse res) | throws ServletException, IOException { | HttpSession session = req.getSession(false); | if(session != null) { | session.invalidate(); | } | | return "login.jsp"; | } | //this invalidates the session and the session is now null if system.out is used | 5) the user is redirected to the login.jsp page. now here is the problem. when I click on the back button using the browser the previous page reappears (even though it is restricted and is in the url-patttern in web.xml) why is the page reappearing when clicking back button, even though it is secure? shouldnt it show the secure login.jsp again? am I doing something wrong? Im not sure how can I fix this problem? if someone with more experience and knowlegde could help i would really appreciate it. [JBoss-user] [Messaging, JMS & JBossMQ] - Re: JBoss 4.0.2 and Tibco Integration question
Genman, Thanks for your reply. After reviewing the forums, I was able to configure tibco integration except for the security part as mentioned in my previous post. Here is what I tried and it does not work. Set up a jboss realm in login-config.xml with ems user id as 'jbosslookup'. I guess that jboss uses this userid to set up the pool. Jboss server is able to create the pool on startup. When I create the connection, if I pass some other valid ems user id 'myuser' using createConnection('myuser','password'). it fails and I get an exception in the log. I think either the jboss server or the ems server is unable to switch between users. That is the reason I seeked help because I think the answer lies in how the jboss jms adapter implementation switches users if the caller passes userid at runtime. I read in one of the forums that jboss jca security always uses the user from login-xml file and that setting takes precedence over the actual userid passed at the time a connection is created. Is this true ? If yes, is there any other way I can pass different userid/passwords when I create jms connection (createConnection call) ? May be using some other login modules etc. Also, if I use , how can I set up the connection pool because the pool will not be linked with any security realm and our ems server is secure. Thanks in advance for your help. But if i use the reply after the receive for both receives it works. receive (correlated) reply invoke invoke receive (correlate) reply Fromt the example files that i posted before, you can see that i have a bug in the operation receiveNotification. This operation has an output message and i was not replying to it. I fixed that by removing the output message from the operation and it still didnt work. Apparantely, it only worked if i use receive-reply (one after the other) during the process. I i use receive and then another receive and then reply to the first receive i cannot correlate. [JBoss-user] [JBoss jBPM] - Re: Questions regarding jBPM for an evaluation
Hi there again, many new questions arose from my actual evaluation status. I would once more be pleased if someone could take the time and answer them :) Lets go: - Modelling in jBPM is done via UML Activitycharts as far as i know. Which UML standard is used? - Is UML completely integrated or are there some proprietaer extensions? - I somewhere read that workflow patterns are to be implemented. What is the actual status? - Roleconcepts: The engine manages role "detection" via the identity plugin? I mean, if there are some processes related to one role and the corresponding user logs in - will the engine automatically give him all his actions? - Once more the communication: kukeltje said that there is no communication like SOAP, RMI etc. implemented in jBPM. But how do you then actually give a process to the engine? - What happens, if the engine/computer crashes? Does it resume from the point where it was shut down? - Is some kind of backup integrated or is this left to the user? Thank you once more!
