When running lab4, the security lesson, on my JBoss 3.2.1, it fails. Here is an excert from the stack trace. It is the opposite in Weblogic where it fails if assumed numeric. Oracle certainly does not consider this as numeric. It can contain any of the values '0', '1', 'A', 'N'. [JBoss-user] Transaction differences in weblogic and jboss
I think I have discovered a difference between jboss and weblogic concerning transactions and this is (currently) a bit troublesome for us. Given the following metacode: Start transaction a = findBeanInstance(p); a.getValue(); Start transaction a.setValue(newValue); End transaction End transaction This is problem free in weblogic, but jboss errs with deadlock detection. Face value, I think JBoss is "correct" because the container does not know whether you are going to update the value after the nested transaction. But can anyone comment on this? E.g. is it possible to tune this behaviour in JBoss? [JBoss-user] What is the proper way to name a datasource?
We have an application that we are trying out on several application servers, i.e. Borland, Weblogic and of course JBoss. This application uses CMP, but we also need to do some JDBC calls directly, and consequently we need to get the name of the datasource from the application server. We do it like this in JBoss: Context ctx = new InitialContext(); DataSource pool = (DataSource)ctx.lookup("java:OracleDS"); return pool.getConnection(); However using "java:" does not work in Borland and Weblogic, it works well with: Context ctx = new InitialContext(); DataSource pool = (DataSource)ctx.lookup("OracleDS"); return pool.getConnection(); So, is there a way that works in all cases? -- Jon Haugsand, <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Norges Bank, <http://www.norges-bank.no> --- This sf.net email is sponsored by: See the NEW Palm Tungsten T handheld. [JBoss-user] Extremely slow transaction
We have a table with approx 1500 rows and a finder that picks one or two rows during each query like this: for (id=0;id++;id<1000) { // Start transaction Collection c=findByStatus(id,status); for(i=c.iterator();i.hasNext();) { ((EntityLocal) (i.next())) . setStatus(newStatus); } // End transaction } Each such transaction takes around one second, which means that around 1000 seconds to fulfill the whole operation. Looking at the server.log, we have those large SQL queries I have asked about earlier. However, we do not need those and thinking we have found the problem with the performance, we tried to eliminate them. 1. Is it correct then to edit the conf/standardjbosscmp-jdbc.xml to tune this? We tried to set on-find and remove completely 1000 but alas, this did not help. What do we really do? 2. In the CMP-manual, the examples on how to tune this for each finder only shows it when you use JBOSS-finders and not EJB-QL. Is it possible ot use EJB-QL and tune this per finder? -- Jon Haugsand, <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Norges Bank, <http://www.norges-bank.no> --- This sf.net email is sponsored by:ThinkGeek Welcome to geek heaven. http://thinkgeek.com/sf ___ JBoss-user mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/jboss-user

[JBoss-user] MQ Series messages to JBoss message beans?
We are developing an application that receives messages from IBM MQ Series and needs to handle them in an EJB application. The current application server we use is JBoss, but it is not known what we end up with. One of the deciding questions is how we are able to tackle messages from IBM MQSeries. So, how have other people solved this problem? Naive solutions include the following: 1. A stand alone application that listens to MQ Series and sends to a JBoss message queue to which a JBoss message bean subscribes to. 2. An MBean that does the same as 1. 3. Configure JBoss such that JBoss own JMS implementation is turned off and MQ Series is used instead. Has anyone done anything like this and is willing to share his/her solution? Clustering is an important subject, but mainly in the sense of detecting/resending lost messages. -- Jon Haugsand, <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Norges Bank, <http://www.norges-bank.no> --- This sf.net email is sponsored by:ThinkGeek Welcome to geek heaven. http://thinkgeek.com/sf ___ JBoss-user mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/jboss-user

[JBoss-user] JBoss 3.0.1 and Oracle-XA
I am trying to get Oracle-XA to work with JBoss 3.0.1, by doing the following: 1. I copy the docs/examples/jca/oracle-xa-service.xml 2. I change the line with URL=jdbc:oracle:oci8:@tc to URL=jdbc:oracle:oci8:@banklab3:1521:ora8 3. I insert username and password 4. I include an true into jboss-service.xml It looks like the mbean is registrated, but I get error message that complain with "no ocijdbc8 in java.library.path" I assume no 2 above is not correct. [JBoss-user] Serious problem with wrong data returned.
We have a serious problem with JBoss 3.0.1 that I guess is not easy to reproduce or else it should have been reported long time ago. I post here so that I can get help to identify where the problem really is. My (BA devoted) collegue thinks it _is_ a problem with JBoss, but if so, it should be corrected quite soon... The following is a snapshot of a Cactus test: public void testberegnSikkerhet() throws Exception{ final Collection c = ff.findAlleKunder(); for( final Iterator i = c.iterator(); i.hasNext(); ) { final KundeLocal kunde = (KundeLocal) i.next(); cat.debug( "kunde.pk=" + kunde.getPrimaryKey() ); cat.debug( "kunde.foretaks=" + kunde.getForetaksnr() ); cat.debug( "kunde.data=" + kunde.getData() ); kunde.beregnSikkerhet( null, true ); } } The above getters are what is standard CMP 2.x and it is without doubt wrong data that is written out: kunde.pk=[.1.] kunde.foretaks=9 kunde.pk=[.2.] kunde.foretaks=9 In reality, the KUNDE table's FORETAKS should contain something very different in both cases. [JBoss-user] How to use application specific properties
We have a local property file containg such things like name of machines, files, ip-addresses and such for legacy interfaces. I found out (the hard way) that I could place this file in the ${JBOSS_HOME}/bin directory, presumably because it is from there we run the server. It shouldn't stay there of course, and further we need it within the client too. What I did was to increase the LARGE_POOL_SIZE from 614400 to 2614400. Oracle worked clock like then. To create and delete 1000 bean instances JBoss used 60 seconds. I do not know if this is representative? Each creation was initiated from the JUnit client, through a session bean which called the entity bean using a local interface. Deletion was done in a loop in the session bean that used local interface. > in this case, you can change JBossCMP options to prefetch less rows: this > will reduce the size of the statement. Somehow this must be an bug in JBoss who should read all files in server/xx/deploy in alphabetic order or some other deterministic fashion. -- Jon Haugsand, <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Norges Bank, <http://www.norges-bank.no> --- This sf.net email is sponsored by: OSDN - Tired of that same old cell phone? I have two beans, and here is some of the entity bean. It is "getData()" that fails. public abstract class TelefonBean implements EntityBean { public TelefonBean() {} /** * @ejb:interface-method view-type="both" */ public abstract void setData(telefonData data); /** * @ejb:interface-method view-type="both" */ public abstract telefonData getData(); /** * @class Integer ejbCreate() creates a new bean * @ejb:create-method * @ejb:transaction type="Supports" */ public telefonPK ejbCreate(telefonData _data) throws CreateException { setLast_name(_data.getLast_name()); setData(_data); return null; } The following is the created code: private nb.api.telefonData dataHolder; public nb.api.telefonData getData() { if( dataHolder == null ) { try { dataHolder = new nb.api.telefonData(); dataHolder.setLast_name( getLast_name() ); dataHolder.setFirst_name( getFirst_name() ); dataHolder.setAddress( getAddress() ); dataHolder.setTelephone( getTelephone() ); dataHolder.setStatus( getStatus() ); } catch (Exception e) { throw new javax.ejb.EJBException(e); } } return dataHolder; } - If interesting, this is called from a session bean like this: Collection col=listAll(); for (Iterator i=col.iterator(); i.hasNext(); ) { Object o=i.next(); System.out.println("Object is " + o); telefonLocal tf = (telefonLocal) o; System.out.println("Before"); telefonData td=tf.getData(); System.out.println("Got line!"); >From the output I can see "Before" but not "Got line!" -- Jon Haugsand, <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Norges Bank, <http://www.norges-bank.no> --- This sf.net email is sponsored by: OSDN - Tired of that same old cell phone? You should modify your > SHARED_POOL_SIZE in Oracle to allow for the query to be executed (take a > look at ORA-04031 message definition in your Oracle documentation for more > information) Thanks. However, the following is an excert from my initsid.ora: shared_pool_size = 31457280 # INITIAL # shared_pool_size = 350 # SMALL # shared_pool_size = 500 # MEDIUM # shared_pool_size = 900 # LARGE Does not this show that the share_pool_size is more than three times as big as LARGE? Actually the same test I run failed much earlier when using MySQL as my datasource. The test is simple, I have one entity bean and one session bean. I create 1000 bean instances and deletes them afterwards. When using Oracle, all bean instances get created, but none are destroyed. With MySQL only around 100 gets created. I do not use any explicite transaction handling. Neither do I set any commit option (as this seems to be unavailable to set from XDoclet). I have included code in another article. -- Jon Haugsand, <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Norges Bank, <http://www.norges-bank.no> --- This sf.net email is sponsored by: OSDN - Tired of that same old cell phone?
