Re: [JBoss-user] IDE for JBOSS?

2001-04-01 Thread Guy Rouillier

I was talking about the community edition, which is free. At the moment,
Sun is offering a free download of the EE SDK on the developer site.
Registration is free.

2001-04-01 Thread Peter Routtier-Wone

EJBs are Java beans created according to a spec. For crying out loud, you
can create them with a text editor. I *do*.

Forte plus the EE SDK is more than adequate.

I think what you want is a point and click all in one
editor/deployer/debugger that can also manage the datasources. If so you
aren't going to get one for free. The only thing I can think of that meets
all these criteria is JBuilder 4 Enterprise, and boyo, it aint cheap.

I don't think Forte for JAVA 2.0 Internet Edition supports EJB's. No
reference to it on www.sun.com or Forte's documentation.

I was using enterprise. Remote debugging is only available in Enterprise
unfortunately.

At the moment, Sun is making available the EE SDK
for free.  This integrates with the Forte for Java IDE.  Together,
they make a decent IDE for EE development.  You need a decent of
horsepower.  I have 500 MHz Pentium III at work with 256 MB, and that setup
is barely acceptable.

setup JBuilder to remote debug beans deployed in JBuilder, even when jBoss was
running on another machine. Very cool stuff.

There was quite a bit of discussion on this a while
back. Look in the old working-dogs archives under "java IDE for Linux" or
  "Open Source IDE".

You can try Together Control Center (http://www.togethersoft.com), but it's
commercial. But it's the best goddamned thing for EJB development and
deployment.
