How do I release a plugin?
Hi, How can I release a plugin to the jenkins plugin repo? I have written a new plugin to generate a dashboard, and would like to publish the same. Is requesting hosting mandatory? Or can I just run mvn release:prepare release:perform from my local repository? Can I tell whether a step succeeded beyond its effect on the build result?
Hello! I'm working on a project to display the results of Jenkins builds in an external dashboard, and I've run into a fun conceptual problem. I'd like to tell if a BuildStep had a good or bad outcome. A 'good' outcome is one in which the step executed as expected, while a 'bad' outcome is one in which somebody should probably take a look at the build to see what's wrong with it. For instance, if an Execute Shell command exited with return code 0, that's good; if it exited with return code 1, that's bad. Similarly, if a Publish JUnit test result report reports all tests passed, that's good, and if some tests failed, that's bad. Currently I'm guessing the outcome of steps by heuristics: If the BuildStep made the build result worse, as reported by AbstractBuild#getResult, then we say the step had a bad outcome. If the BuildStep requests the step abort (that is, from our StepNotifier we see canContinue = false), the step had a bad outcome. And so on. But such heuristics will still be wrong sometimes. Say one post-build action notices a test failed, and marks the build as unstable. Then a second post-build action notices another test failed. Since the build was already unstable, my plugin can't tell that the second action had a bad outcome; it didn't make the build's result any worse. Of course, I can add more heuristics. (For instance, here I can hook into test result reporting, and say an action had a bad outcome if it reported some failing tests.) But I'll always guess wrong in some case. Are there any good examples of a main class extending Plugin and having a
descriptor that works that you can refer me to? I have tried looking, and
haven’t seen anything yet; I’ve tried what I can think of based on the what I
have been able to see, and all I ever get when trying to load the configuration
page is “java.lang.IllegalStateException: class
jenkins.model.GlobalPluginConfiguration doesn't have the
doFillPrincipalFormatItems method for filling a drop-down list”, the same thing
I was getting when I didn’t have any sort of Descriptor.

We needed to do advertise headers in order for CLI to work.
doFillxyzItems should be declared in the descriptor and replace xyz with the
name of the field, the f:select tag takes care of the data binding.

authentication, as well as modifying the logging calls since Waffle uses a
different logger. I would prefer to have a more abstract implementation that
will be easier to maintain and extend, rather than what I currently have.
Waffle is also designed to do full authentication by itself, so it may be
better if I changed to implementation to be a security plugin (and that may
remove all licensing issues, if I could have Waffle function as the security
provider... but I don't even know where to start).
