Security error(?) in editing psml

The role is user! But please consider I can not access the portlets from the admin psml editor interface, not as stefano. - Original Message - From: Archana Turaga [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Jetspeed Users List jetspeed-user@jakarta.apache.org Sent: Thursday, April 21, 2005 4:37 PM Subject: RE: Security error(?) in editing psml The other thing that can be checked is what role the stephano user got assigned. Re: Changing the background color of the portal - Portal page height
Dear Sven, also td height=600 works fine, and allows to have all pages that are shorter than 600 px to look the same, whereas the others are rendered as they are. A percentage is more dynamic but makes appearance change in all pages (80% of each different height). Re: Changing the background color of the portal - Portal page height
Dear Sven, you are right, I was talking in theory. What does it happen if you set 80% and you have a longer content? I think the portal render it all despite the setup. Anyway, do you (or any other) know how could it be possible to fix the height of the portal and have all central contents (default.jsp or default.vm) in e.g. a frame with a scroll bar? No requests, just a remark
Dear ALL (and mainly J12 developers), no requests in this mail, just my 2 cents to the Jetspeed case. I have noticed that the nature of the mails circulating in the Jetspeed User List is becoming more more technical day by day. People asks about classes, interfaces etc., i.e. code, and have to cope with Maven, Ant, builds and so on even to get started (both for J1 and J2). This is indeed a good fact: the community is alive, good exchange of ideas, collaboration, skilled people etc. BUT: if you (J developers) really want Jetspeed to become a reference, you should also think of the good guy who wants something that is easy to work with, easy to start, easy to configure etc. Your approach is open to several architecture (DBMS, other tools etc.), but please take a few seconds thinking about the classes of users that could be interested in using Jetspeed. I DO appreciate your work and effort (I would never be able to do such work!), but I think that an easier approach for e.g. deploy and set up (for dummies, let's say) would be better. Best regards and good luck ;-) Stefano Ing. Stefano Bianchi Softeco Sismat S.p.A. Dear Danny, we had the same problem. We tried to generate again all the scripts but they do not work. Could it be a problem with MySQL version (we use 4.1.9)? Until this is not solved we can not let users to create a new account. I already posted this but I did not find any solution yet. SQL script - DB - timestamp error
Dear ALL, when I create a new_user (with admin functionalities) the field 'TURBINE_USERS'.'CREATED' contains -00-00 00:00:00, and once I try to login as the new_user the system returns an exception (cannot convert the value in a valid timestamp). .jsp or .vm templates extension
Dear ALL, maybe a silly question for a JS1.4b3 expert... I'm using JS1.5 and my question is: should I use vm or jsp as templates extension? Dear Archana, folder [TOMCAT]\webapps\jetspeed\WEB-INF\templates\vm contains folders control, emails, includes, whereas folder jsp does not. Anyway you seem to confirm my opinion: that's a mix (thank you!). I find .jsp are better for graphical layout since they seem to refresh immediately (e.g. default.jsp). Dear Scott (and ALL), my last question (to tech guys) on this issue: am I correct if I say: - if I use .jsp template, my portal will be rendered with a mix of .vm and .jsp pages - if I use .vm template, my portal will be rendered using only .vm pages ? Please consider I refer mainly to layout (deafult, controller, control, screens): I know I can always use .jsp portlets to develop my own applications... Re: Build Jetspeed 1.5 with Maven
Dear Dan, I tried your option and now I got a jetspeed-1.5.jar in my target folder. Is it the same for deploy on Tomcat? Or should I have a .war? (Sorry, newbie question...) Furthermore, in the thread you suggested me, I saw you made several changes to get your Oracle stuff: I thought it was sufficient to configure properly the Torque.properties. Is it the rest only Maven-related or am I missing something? I checked JETSPEED_HOME\src\sql\external and I saw there are populate-mysql.sql and turbine-mysql.sql. Are they enough to generate the DB? Why are they generated if I have not still changed Torque.properties? Sorry, but I have to speed up development and I'm spending too much time in getting everything configured to start... On behalf of all newbies around, I warmly ask developers (you made a great job, it is just a slight remark) to make DB switch easier for those who are not skilled in Maven, builds etc. Thank you in advance for your attention Stefano - Original Message - From: Dan Moore [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Jetspeed Users List jetspeed-user@jakarta.apache.org Sent: Tuesday, February 01, 2005 5:39 PM Subject: Re: Build Jetspeed 1.5 with Maven --- Stefano Bianchi [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Dear ALL (and David Sean, if you are there!), I tried to build Jetspeed with Maven since I want to migrate to MySql. Re: Limiting customization available to users
COPIED FROM A PREVIOUS ANSWER - it works fine for JS 1.4b3... each single portlet has its own security defined through administration psml browser. Then, if you want portlets for a specific role to have different security constraints, you have to specify them one by one. E.g. I have for anon user portlets with only customize button and portlets with customize, minimize and maximize buttons. I defined the local-security.xreg file you can find below : ?xml version=1.0 encoding=UTF-8? registry security-entry name=MY_user-use_admin-all meta-info titleMY Use/title descriptionUsers can print, minimize and maximize, Admin have full access./description /meta-info access action=* allow-if role=admin xmlns:xsi=http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance; xsi:type=java:org.apache.jetspeed.om.registry.base.BaseSecurityAllow/ /access access action=view allow-if role=user xmlns:xsi=http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance; xsi:type=java:org.apache.jetspeed.om.registry.base.BaseSecurityAllow/ /access access action=minimize allow-if role=user xmlns:xsi=http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance; xsi:type=java:org.apache.jetspeed.om.registry.base.BaseSecurityAllow/ /access access action=maximize allow-if role=user xmlns:xsi=http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance; xsi:type=java:org.apache.jetspeed.om.registry.base.BaseSecurityAllow/ /access access action=print_friendly allow-if role=user xmlns:xsi=http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance; xsi:type=java:org.apache.jetspeed.om.registry.base.BaseSecurityAllow/ /access access action=personalize allow-if role=user xmlns:xsi=http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance; xsi:type=java:org.apache.jetspeed.om.registry.base.BaseSecurityAllow/ /access /security-entry security-entry name=MY_user-customize_admin-all meta-info titleMY Customize/title descriptionUsers customize./description /meta-info access action=* allow-if role=admin xmlns:xsi=http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance; xsi:type=java:org.apache.jetspeed.om.registry.base.BaseSecurityAllow/ /access access action=view allow-if role=user xmlns:xsi=http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance; xsi:type=java:org.apache.jetspeed.om.registry.base.BaseSecurityAllow/ /access access action=customize allow-if role=user xmlns:xsi=http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance; xsi:type=java:org.apache.jetspeed.om.registry.base.BaseSecurityAllow/ /access /security-entry /registry They grant all to admin users but only some actions to users (it' easy to find them!). NOTE: the one you used was only an entry of the file, not the whole one!!! I don't remember well where to do it (some property file) but you can also set your security as the default one so that once you create a portlet you do have not to change its definition. Re: Do Roles work ?
Dear Jon I experienced something like role fallback: if a psml for a specific user is not found, then the system use the one with the same name defined for the role the user is assigned to. If there is still a psml for the user (like default.psml) where the button is active, then the system will show this and not the one for the role. To obtain what you need, I would remove the psml for the user. But you have to enable role fallback in properties file before... I hope this is correct enough, tech guys... Any other hint? Re: how to set image as backround of a portlet?
Dear Maruthi, hello again. I could suggest to work on .vm files that handle the rendering of portlet layout, but I think this would affect all the portlets of the portal. Re: HTML page with a href=#anchor1....
Dear Vladimir, I'm not a programming expert, but I thought that wrapping some plain HTML in JspPortlet would allow you to put code also in the HTML files (after all, the rendering on the portal is of a jsp, not of an html!) included. This sounds a bit strange to me, but it could be. Did you use the include tag? I used it but I had file system based files and not from DB. Couldn't you change the file format of include files from html to jsp? Re: Not able to find JSP Portlet ...Problem with mysql database
Well, if you see at least a preview then it means it works but it hides! Are you sure you defined the portlet in the right psml? If you want to see the portlet ASA you got the page, you have to define it in the anon default.psml. You should check also what default security implies, but if also other portlets have default security and you see them, then it is not the problem. Passing parameter to FileServerPortlet to select source file

ThisPsml.psml hosts a FileServerPortlet; 3. this FileServerPortlet hosts a html file that changes i.e. with language, as homepage-en.html, homepage-it.psml etc. Is it possible to have only one psml and to pass to the portlet a parameter (i.e. sfx = -en or sfx = -it) - taken from session - in order to make it select which html to load? Or is it necessary to have one psml for each html doc? Thank you in advance Stefano Ing. Stefano Bianchi Softeco Sismat S.p.A. Thank Stef, it works! I have to work on Strings but... I still wonder if there is any key in Rundata.getParameters() returning it without any further operation. Re: Converting the existing application into portal framework
Dear Karthik, my suggestion applies to the particular case in which you have a webapps application running under TOMCAT (as Jetspeed) and you want to embed it into Jetspeed, using it as a frame only. 1. create a YOUR_APP.xreg in folder [TOMCAT]\wbapps\jetspeed\WEB-INF\conf, defining an IFramePortlet (take an example from those already present in other xreg files): ?xml version=1.0 encoding=UTF-8? registry portlet-entry name=YOUR_APP hidden=false type=ref parent=IFramePortlet application=false security-ref parent=user-view_admin-all/ meta-info titleYOUR APP(framed)/title descriptionYOUR APP within jetpseed!!!/description /meta-info classnameorg.apache.jetspeed.portal.portlets.IFramePortlet/classname parameter name=source value=/YOUR_APP/YOUR_APP_Starting_Jsp.jsp hidden=false cachedOnName=true cachedOnValue=true/ parameter name=width value=100% hidden=false cachedOnName=true cachedOnValue=true/ parameter name=height value=600 hidden=false cachedOnName=true cachedOnValue=true/ parameter name=align value=middle hidden=false cachedOnName=true cachedOnValue=true/ parameter name=scrolling value=auto hidden=false cachedOnName=true cachedOnValue=true/ parameter name=frameborder value=0 hidden=false cachedOnName=true cachedOnValue=true/ parameter name=refresh value=3600 hidden=false cachedOnName=true cachedOnValue=true/ parameter name=marginwidth value=0 hidden=false cachedOnName=true cachedOnValue=true/ parameter name=marginheight value=0 hidden=false cachedOnName=true cachedOnValue=true/ media-type ref=html/ url cachedOnURL=false/ category group=JetspeedYOUR_WEBAPPS_CATEGORY/category /portlet-entry /registry 2. stop TOMCAT; 3. get YOUR_APP.war and put it into [TOMCAT]\webapps; 4. start TOMCAT and check it create folder YOUR_APP; 5. login as Admin into Jetspeed; 6. with PSML browser, select a psml you want to use to embed your WEBAPP; 7. open the PSML and customize it adding the YOUR APP (framed) portlet; 8. logout :-); 9. login as the user with the modified PSML and see if it works! This should allow to have your webapp running within Jetpseed BUT (take care) independently!!! Re: Converting the existing application into portal framework
Dear Oliver, you are right, but I was speaking of a one minute setup! 1. no portal context - isolated context (e .g user information have to be submitted through url...not beautiful) Usually, my webapps starts with a jsp retrieving user info from the portal with proper tags. 2. no layout scheme from the portal Correct, you have to adopt a compliant layout. It depends on webapp complexity. 3. possibly a scrollbar hierarchy It depends on webapp structure. Jsps + servlets work quite well since you can define the IFramePortlet size and then navigate inside. Anyway, everybody got his way, and that's mine only! :-) Cheers Stefano - Original Message - From: Oliver Pfau [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: 'Jetspeed Users List' [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, May 06, 2004 9:34 AM Subject: AW: Converting the existing application into portal framework Hi, I am working on this problems, too. But when you use an iframe you have significant disadvantages: 1. no portal context - isolated context (e .g user information have to be submitted through url...not beautiful) 2. no layout scheme from the portal 3. possibly a scrollbar hierarchy the minimal effort speaks for an usage of an iframe. but if you use javascript or target=_top you possibly loose the context of the iframe and your application is showed in a own browser window. Also newer browser versions are required, too. Greetings O. Pfau -Ursprüngliche Nachricht- Von: Stefano Bianchi [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Gesendet: Donnerstag, 6. Re: create new user
Unfortunately the person who did it does not work here anymore! I will try to explain myself AFAIK: 1. there is a class handling the process for creating new account in source code for Jetspeed: download Jetpseed source code and find it; 2. change it and make it work as you need (we modified table turbine_users and turbine_users_info to store more data. so you will have to rewrite queries etc.), then compile it and substitute the old one in binaries; 3. then modify properly the .vm or .jsp page (it depends on which format you use, but probably only .vm handle this kind of things) that contains the profilation from in order to allow the user to enter the data you handle in the new version of profilation class. I'm not a technical wizard, probably someone listening has some more hints for you! Sorry, hope it helps a bit anyway :-( ! Re: Portlets without Icons
Dear Andrew, each single portlet has its own security defined through administration psml browser. Re: Jetspeed 1.4 - trouble using jsp instead of velocity template
Dear Murphil, the one I suggested should be the only change in JR.p relative to this specific issue. System should then ignore topnav.vm, leftnav.vm, bottomnav.vm when formatting the portal layout. You just have to make all changes you need (images, background) in relative files in [TOMCAT]\webapps\jetspeed\WEB-INF\templates\jsp\navigations\html. Re: Changing icons
Dear Prahbu, you have simply to change .gif files in [TOMCAT]\webapps\jetspeed\images. If you want to show only some buttons, you can create your own local-security.xreg file in [TOMCAT]\webapps\jetspeed\WEB-INF\conf (see security.xreg file as an example), specifying which actions you want to allow and whcich not. Please consider you will have to specify for each portlet through administration tools (PSML browser) its security layout, or, if you want all portlets to have the same buttons, specify your own as the default one (but change the name of the original Jetspeed default one!!!). If you choose e.g. user_see - admin_all, users won't see any customization button whereas you as administrator will have full control. Re: [J1 LEAKS ?] RE: jetspeed process and memory leak
I also experienced database crashes due to Too many connections. We solved our problem simply using Tomcat Database Connection Pool and changing a bit our code. You can find information at http://jakarta.apache.org/tomcat/tomcat-4.1-doc/jndi-datasource-examples-howto.html#Database%20Connection%20Pool%20(DBCP)%20Configurations Hope it helps somebody! Sometimes the portal breaks due to Too many connections. ...and even this could be our fault. We NEVER experienced any problems with memory leaks, and we have 2 different Jetspeed based projects running - one for over a year and a second one over 3-4 months (with restarts due to updates of course, not without break). Although we have less then 1000 users, I think Jetspeed is quite stable it this concerns. Danny -Ursprüngliche Nachricht- Von: Pernoud Aurelien [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Gesendet: Mittwoch, 14. I've just read this mail and see this : From: William Connor Subject: Re: Tomcat 4.0.x memory leak (not javac) Date: Wed, 03 Dec 2003 09:09:37 -0800 We first ran into this bug when hot-deploying JetSpeed - about seven times would cause an out of memory w/ the default heap size. JetSpeed had so many leaks itself that we dropped down to bares bones test app with a servlet, but no JSPs or third party libraries. Jetspeed has so many leaks ??? We've made some tests over here for potential leak and didn't find anything alarming. The only stuff that was potentially leaking was the Tool object from velocity, staying in memory even after a request is done, we didn't really understand how to use it so we plan not to use it anymore. Did anyone ever really meet those memory leak, or is it more the portlets developped by a end-user that could leak... ? That's just cause I was a little afraid of those lines, but already seen so many people yelling at opensource projects saying it was leaking where it wasn't that I'd like any end-user real experience. Tell me someone already had a jetspeed portal running for a long time ??? :) Aurelien - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
