When I try to modify this psml from the admin editor, I can click on the
default.psml link, get the editor page when panels are shown but as soon as
I click save or Home to modify the pane I get the message You do not
have access to these portlets.

I thought it was because of that owner-only security property for the panel,
I changed it by editing the file, but I get the same.

Any hint?
Thank you
Stefano

The role is user!
But please consider I can not access the portlets from the admin psml editor
interface, not as stefano.

The other thing that can be checked is what role the stephano user got
assigned. If it is guest then obviously the portlets will not be
accessible since the access is only for user and admin. You can either
check the User browser to check what role the user is or check the
database.

Your problem is definitely related to the security-refs. Send your PSML
file and I can maybe take a look in my PSML editor here to see if there
are any problems. If possible your xreg definition too..

Re: Changing the background color of the entire left frame

2005-04-18 Thread Stefano Bianchi
Dear Sven,
have you checked the bgcolor of the related td (hosting left.vm) in
default.vm?
The bgcolor of the table in left.vm?
Have you checked for a style (probable) class in css?

 Hello,

 I'm trying to change the background-color of the entire left navigation
 bar (left frame) in Jetspeed 1.5. But I change the color in the left.vm
 the background color only changes around the links in the navigation, not
 the entire left frame. If I change the value in the default.vm of the
 layout directory, the changes are somehow completely ignored, even though
 there is already an tag (bgcolor) in the original code.

 Bye,
 Sven.

 Dear Stefano,

 yes I did check the bgcolor of the related td (hosting left.vm) in
 default.vm. And when I change the bgcolor of the table, the color only
 changes around the links and not the whole left frame (which doesn't
 really look good). But I could determine (if existing) the class in the
 css for the left frame.

 Thanks,
 Sven.

Re: Changing the background color of the portal - Portal page height

2005-04-15 Thread Stefano Bianchi
Dear Sven,
also td height=600 works fine, and allows to have all pages that are
shorter than 600 px to look the same, whereas the others are rendered as
they are.
A percentage is more dynamic but makes appearance change in all pages (80%
of each different height).
Anyway, let the user choose the best one! ;-)

 Dear Stefano,

 thanks for the tips. It works for me. But you shouldn't use an exact
 number like 600px (I don't know how you call that in English), but an
 percentage (I used: 80%) to make it work on all screen set-ups.

 Thanks a lot,
 Sven.

Dear Sven,
you are right, I was talking in theory.
What does it happen if you set 80% and you have a longer content? I think
the portal render it all despite the setup.
Anyway, do you (or any other) know how could it be possible to fix the
height of the portal and have all central contents (default.jsp or
default.vm) in e.g. a frame with a scroll bar?

 Dear Stefano,

 I think that only looks good for someone who has the same resolution (1280
 x 1024 ?) as you do. For someone with 800x640 for example it probably
 doesn't.

 But I have another question: How/where can I change the percentage of 3
 components that build the page (top.vm, left.vm, bottom.vm). How can I
 change it in a way, that the bottom.vm is always shown at the bottom of
 the screen, even if I only show one portlet (because then it appears just
 below that portlet somewhere in the middle of the screen)?

 Thanks a lot for your help,
 Sven.

  For jsp

[TOMCAT]\webapps\jetspeed\WEB-INF\templates\jsp\layouts\html\default.jsp
  for vm

[TOMCAT]\webapps\jetspeed\WEB-INF\templates\vm\layouts\html\default.vm

  Hello,

  I'm currently trying to change the background color of my portal from
  white (#FF) to grey (#F5F5F5). I changed the 'default.css' to the
  following:

  BODY  {font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 9pt;
  color:
  #222432; background: #F5F5F5; margin: 0px 0px 0px 0px; padding: 0px 0px
  0px 0px}

  But the background color is still white (in the source code it still
  says

  'default.css' and 'skin.css' that seemed promissing to me, but nothing
  worked.

  Does anybody know where I have to change that parameter?

  Thanks a lot,

J1.5 - JSP portlet rendering error

2005-04-13 Thread Stefano Bianchi
Dear ALL,
I have a Jsp portlet in J1.5 defined as:

?xml version=1.0 encoding=UTF-8?
registry
portlet-entry name=MyContentRepository hidden=false type=ref
parent=JSP application=false
security-ref parent=anon-view_admin-all/

security-ref parent=admin-only/
/parameter
media-type ref=html/

category group=JetspeedMy_content_repository/category
/portlet-entry
/registry

and ContentRepository.jsp in
[TOMCAT]\webapps\my_site\WEB-INF\templates\jsp\portlets\html

But I get this on the portal:

JSPViewProcessor: Could not include the following JSP Page:
[ContentRepository.jsp,Customize,Customize] : null

No way in editing the parameters through the admin interface, nor re-editing
the xreg file - ,Customize,Customize is not there!
Where does this come from? Any idea? Any known bug?

Thank you

No requests, just a remark

2005-03-30 Thread Stefano Bianchi
Dear ALL (and mainly J12 developers),
no requests in this mail, just my 2 cents to the Jetspeed case.

I have noticed that the nature of the mails circulating in the Jetspeed User
List is becoming more more technical day by day.
People asks about classes, interfaces etc., i.e. code, and have to cope with
Maven, Ant, builds and so on even to get started (both for J1 and J2).

This is indeed a good fact: the community is alive, good exchange of ideas,
collaboration, skilled people etc.

BUT:
if you (J developers) really want Jetspeed to become a reference, you should
also think of the good guy who wants something that is easy to work with,
easy to start, easy to configure etc.
Your approach is open to several architecture (DBMS, other tools etc.), but
please take a few seconds thinking about the classes of users that could be
interested in using Jetspeed.

I DO appreciate your work and effort (I would never be able to do such
work!), but I think that an easier approach for e.g. deploy and set up (for
dummies, let's say) would be better.

Best regards and good luck ;-)
Stefano

Re: Problem with MySQL 4.1 and Jetpeed 1.5 (1.4-B4)

2005-03-30 Thread Stefano Bianchi
Dear Danny,
we had the same problem.
We tried to generate again all the scripts but they do not work.
Could it be a problem with MySQL version (we use 4.1.9)?
Until this is not solved we can not let users to create a new account.
I already posted this but I did not find any solution yet.
It would be great if someone with a working version of MySQL scripts for
J1.5 could help us by posting them!

I will post a solution as soon as I find it.
Good luck

SQL script - DB - timestamp error

2005-02-24 Thread Stefano Bianchi

Dear ALL,
when I create a new_user (with admin functionalities) the field
'TURBINE_USERS'.'CREATED' contains -00-00 00:00:00, and once I try to
login as the new_user the system returns an exception (cannot convert the
value in a valid timestamp).

I use J1.5, but I'm not sure my MySQL scripts are ok... they seem to lack
some fields when I compare them with the scripts for the other DBs.

Any hint?
Thank you

By the way, if any of you has a really working version of sql scripts for

.jsp or .vm templates extension

2005-02-08 Thread Stefano Bianchi
Dear ALL,
maybe a silly question for a JS1.4b3 expert...

I'm using JS1.5 and my question is: should I use vm or jsp as templates
extension?

I used jsp (I don't even remember in how many places I had to change the
extension in properties files!) but I still ask myself why the template\vm
folder contains more folders and files...

That is: if I use jsp, will Jetspeed use a mix of vm and jsp to render its
contents? And who does what?

Thank you guys
Stefano

Re: .jsp or .vm templates extension

2005-02-08 Thread Stefano Bianchi

Dear Archana,
folder [TOMCAT]\webapps\jetspeed\WEB-INF\templates\vm contains folders
control, emails, includes, whereas folder jsp does not.

Anyway you seem to confirm my opinion: that's a mix (thank you!).
I find .jsp are better for graphical layout since they seem to refresh
immediately (e.g. default.jsp).

I simply changed TurbineResource.properties to set jsp instead of vm.
Maybe should I change all .vm templates also in
JetspeedResources.properties?

Any hint from tech guys?
Thank you!
Stefano

By the way the answer to the question: should I use vm or jsp as
templates
extension?

If you are more comfortable using jsps then set the template extension
to jsp otherwise vm. Whatever you set the extension to the layout pages
are still vm since that is not supported in jsp(read this in one of
the postings). Ideally according if we set the template extension to jsp
then even the layout templates should be jsp but that is not supported.

Archana

why the template\vm

issue...can you elaborate.

As far as I know (and I'm no expert) Jetspeed does use a mix or vm and
jsp. You can still define vm templates even after setting the template
extension to jsp and what that drives is rendering of some pages like
the navigational jsps (top, bottom,left),the error pages (When there is
a exception the error.jsp is invoked rather than the error.vm...Look at
the jsp directory of jetspeed).

Does that clarify anything?

Re: .jsp or .vm templates extension

2005-02-08 Thread Stefano Bianchi
Dear Scott (and ALL),
my last question (to tech guys) on this issue:

am I correct if I say:

 - if I use .jsp template, my portal will be rendered with a mix of .vm and
.jsp pages
 - if I use .vm template, my portal will be rendered using only .vm pages

?

Please consider I refer mainly to layout (deafult, controller, control,
screens): I know I can always use .jsp portlets to develop my own
applications...

I will check for the cache option (can it be set separately for .jsp and
.vm?)

Thank you

Re: Build Jetspeed 1.5 with Maven

2005-02-01 Thread Stefano Bianchi
Dear Dan,
I tried your option and now I got a jetspeed-1.5.jar in my target folder.

Is it the same for deploy on Tomcat? Or should I have a .war? (Sorry, newbie
question...)

Furthermore, in the thread you suggested me, I saw you made several changes
to get your Oracle stuff: I thought it was sufficient to configure properly
the Torque.properties. Is it the rest only Maven-related or am I missing
something?

I checked JETSPEED_HOME\src\sql\external and I saw there are
populate-mysql.sql and turbine-mysql.sql.
Are they enough to generate the DB? Why are they generated if I have not
still changed Torque.properties?

Sorry, but I have to speed up development and I'm spending too much time in
getting everything configured to start...

On behalf of all newbies around, I warmly ask developers (you made a great
job, it is just a slight remark) to make DB switch easier for those who are
not skilled in Maven, builds etc.

Thank you in advance for your attention
Stefano

 I think you want to skip the tests: maven -Dmaven.test.skip=true
 since it hangs on network access.

 Also, this thread may be helpful to you (an aside: anyone know why the

 documents what I went through to rebuild the jars for an Oracle db:

 Would be nice.
 Thats my biggest complaint about the 1.x codebase:
 You have to rebuild to switch databases
 I have a plan for fixing that but no time to write it

 I guess someone with Maven could build it for you ...
 Or you could just try to learn Maven, if you have time

Porting web applications from J1.5 to J2

Dear ALL,
I have to develop a new portal.

I used and customized a J 1.4b3 with many IFramePortlets hosting external
web applications.

Will J2 allow me to embed this IFramePortlets with web applications or would
it be better to stop at J 1.5?

Thank you guys

Re: Limiting customization available to users

2004-12-01 Thread Stefano Bianchi
 COPIED FROM A PREVIOUS ANSWER - it works fine for JS 1.4b3...

each single portlet has its own security defined through administration psml
browser.
Then, if you want portlets for a specific role to have different security
constraints, you have to specify them one by one.
E.g. I have for anon user portlets with only customize button and portlets
with customize, minimize and maximize buttons.
I defined the local-security.xreg file you can find below :

?xml version=1.0 encoding=UTF-8?
registry
security-entry name=MY_user-use_admin-all
meta-info
titleMY Use/title
descriptionUsers can print, minimize and maximize, Admin
have full access./description
/meta-info
access action=*
allow-if role=admin
xmlns:xsi=http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance;
xsi:type=java:org.apache.jetspeed.om.registry.base.BaseSecurityAllow/
/access
access action=view
allow-if role=user
xmlns:xsi=http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance;

access action=minimize
allow-if role=user
xmlns:xsi=http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance;
xsi:type=java:org.apache.jetspeed.om.registry.base.BaseSecurityAllow/
/access
access action=maximize
allow-if role=user
xmlns:xsi=http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance;

xsi:type=java:org.apache.jetspeed.om.registry.base.BaseSecurityAllow/

allow-if role=user
xmlns:xsi=http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance;
xsi:type=java:org.apache.jetspeed.om.registry.base.BaseSecurityAllow/

/security-entry
security-entry name=MY_user-customize_admin-all

titleMY Customize/title
descriptionUsers customize./description

/security-entry
/registry

They grant all to admin users but only some actions to users (it' easy to
find them!).
NOTE: the one you used was only an entry of the file, not the whole one!!!
I don't remember well where to do it (some property file) but you can also
set your security as the default one so that once you create a portlet you
do have not to change its definition.

Let us know your advancements!

 I've had no replies but I'd like to insist if anyone can help me. Sorry if
I am
 being pushy but I really can't figure this out.

 What I am trying to do is to customize which action icons (maximize,
minimize,
 etc.) are available to users. I have tried changing the permissions but
this
 has absolutely no effect. The only way I have found to remove the icons
 completely is by modifying JetspeedSecurity.properties by setting the
line:

 services.JetspeedSecurity.actions.allusers.disable=true

 Unfortunately this doesn't solve my problem because I do want to have the
 'customize' icon on certain portlets, but I dont want users to go changing
 their PSML for example. I have also tried adding

   security-ref parent=user_view-admin_all

 to the controllers.xreg in each of the controller entries, but this also
has no
 effect. This is also pretty confusing because the DTD doesnt't mention
this
 element, but http://portals.apache.org/jetspeed-1/registry_syntax.html
says
 that security-ref is common to all entries. I also put the security-ref
 element in the controls.xreg but nothing happened again.

 Please people, I guess I must be missing something really stupid in order

 get this to work. If someone could just point me in the right direction
I'd

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a tutorial or a quick explanation of how I
can get my portals to display images as their skin instead of just
colours and text styles...

After A LOT of searching, I still cannot work out how to do
this but found references to the mintyblue and metal skins that both
seem to do what I'd like, although I cannot confirm this as I have never
seen them.

Can someone explain to me what files need changing, and how
I can specify the images to use for each bit of the table that makes up
the portlet? I'm assuming the skins have a similar setup to the standard
3x3, 9 celled table with top-left, top-middle, top-right, middle-left,
middle-right etc images defined in the form of:

-
|   |   |   |
-
|   |   |   |
-

PS, I searched the mailing list and couldn't find anything for keywords:
mintyblue, metal or skins

Cheers,

2.0 or 1.X?

2004-11-24 Thread Stefano Bianchi
Dear ALL,
I finished successfully my previous project (though I have not seen yet
www.euroworksafe.org in sample sites...) and I will soon start another one.
I used Jetspeed 1.4-b3 for the previous project and I have now downloaded
1.5.
Since I see many of you already play with 2.0 (I do not), I would like to
get a few points review of what you experts think about upgrading: is 2.0
too much different from 1.X to allow FAST deploy, old portlet integration,
graphical layout changes and so on? Furthermore, I don't think 2.0 is
available as .war...

Many thanks in advance (not really an urgent question, but if you find a few
seconds... ;-) )

org.apache.xml.utils.WrappedRuntimeException

 Try just deleting these jars from the WEB-INF/lib directory (and the
common
 directory) all together. I ran into similar problems and this seems to
 solve them.

By common directory, do you mean tomcat/common/endorsed?

In my jetspeed dist I have:

jetspeed/lib
many jars including
- xalan-2.3.1.jar
- xml-apis.jar

jetspeed/webapp/WEB-INF/lib/
- hsqldb.jar

In tomcat:

tomcat/common/endorsed/
- xercesImpl.jar
- xmlParserApis.jar

I get rid of the SAX parser problem by moving xalan-2.3.1.jar and
xml-apis.jar from jetspeed/lib to tomcat/common/endorsed/. Is there another
(maybe better) way?

*

I simply COPIED xalan-2.3.1.jar and xml-apis.jar in [TOMCAT]/common/endorsed
from jetspeed/lib and it works now perfectly.

Thank you 4 your attention guys!
Bye
Stefano

Re: Do Roles work ?

2004-10-20 Thread Stefano Bianchi
Dear Jon
I experienced something like role fallback:

if a psml for a specific user is not found, then the system use the one with
the same name defined for the role the user is assigned to.

If there is still a psml for the user (like default.psml) where the button
is active, then the system will show this and not the one for the role.

To obtain what you need, I would remove the psml for the user.

But you have to enable role fallback in properties file before...

I hope this is correct enough, tech guys... Any other hint?

Re: AW: Scheduled jobs in TOMCAT/JETSPEED

2004-08-31 Thread Stefano Bianchi
Dear ALL,
thank you for your kind (and expert as usual) answers.
I will probably take some simpler action (even Windows scheduler) since my
need for scheduling is not critical.
I think your contribution will be useful also for other users interested in
this problems.

Bye
Stefano

P.S. I am finalizing my project and probably it could be useful (for me and
other users) to submit the url of the portal to the Jetspeed page Sample
site. Who should I contact?

 Hi,
 Take a look at Quartz . http://www.opensymphony.com/quartz/
 Its an opensource java Scheduler. Very matured and good
 product. See if this is what you need.

 The spec compliant way to do this would be to run in a j2ee 1.4 app
 server, write a session bean to trigger the action, and use the ejb
 timer service.

IFramePortlet height

Dear all,
I developed several webapps now hosted in IFramePortlets within Jetspeed.
They work but I can't avoid scrolling since I have to specify height and
width of the IFramePortlet.
Is there any way to allow an IFramePortlet to resize according to its
content? (my need is for height, width=100% works pretty good)
Thank you

Access status bar URL from JSP in IFramePortlet

Dear all,
I would like to access the url I see in status bar (browser page, bottom
part)
 http://mymachine:9090/jetspeed/portal/user/visitor/page/my.psml
from a jsp hosted in a IFramePortlet.

%=request.getRequestURI()% does not return the whole path, i.e. it returns
the path specified in the definition of the portlet in xreg file only
(myApp/myStartingJsp.jsp).

I know it is not a Jetspeed compliant way of working but I would appreciate
any hint.

 Hi Stefano,

 Unless you typed the first line wrong, this is your problem:

 ?xml version=1.0 encoding=UTF-8?

 you are missing a at the beginning of the line.

Re: how to set image as backround of a portlet?

2004-08-02 Thread Stefano Bianchi
Dear Maruthi,
hello again.

I could suggest to work on .vm files that handle the rendering of portlet
layout, but I think this would affect all the portlets of the portal.
AFAIK the best solution (without programming) is to work with table or
div (that could include tables).
Usually to customize a portlet I work on content (jso or html) rather than
on containers (portlet frame).
Any other hint guys?
Stefano

Re: iframe portlet

2004-07-19 Thread Stefano Bianchi
It should be specified in

portlet-entry name=IFramePortlet hidden=false type=instance
application=false

titleIFrame Portlet/title
descriptionDisplay URL within IFrame/description
/meta-info
classnameorg.apache.jetspeed.portal.portlets.IFramePortlet/classname

Probably you have defined it in a specific DB stored psml by entering it
direclty from administration tool ( portletcustomize option).
In this way probably the value is stored directly in the specific psml (and
not in the xreg).
Hope it helps!

portlet-entry name=IFramePortlet hidden=false type=instance
application=false
meta-info

descriptionDisplay URL within IFrame/description
/meta-info
classnameorg.apache.jetspeed.portal.portlets.IFramePortlet/classname
parameter name=source value=-HERE_HERE_HERE--

[...]

Probably you have defined it in a specific DB stored psml by entering it
direclty from administration tool ( portletcustomize option).
In this way probably the value is stored directly in the specific psml (and
not in the xreg).
Hope it helps!

Re: HTML page with a href=#anchor1....

2004-07-13 Thread Stefano Bianchi
Dear Vladimir,
I'm not a programming expert, but I thought that wrapping some plain HTML in
JspPortlet would allow you to put code also in the HTML files (after all,
the rendering on the portal is of a jsp, not of an html!) included. This
sounds a bit strange to me, but it could be.
Did you use the include tag? I used it but I had file system based files
and not from DB.
Couldn't you change the file format of include files from html to jsp?
Good luck
Stefano

Re: Not able to find JSP Portlet ...Problem with mysql database

2004-06-21 Thread Stefano Bianchi
Well, if you see at least a preview then it means it works but it hides!
Are you sure you defined the portlet in the right psml?
If you want to see the portlet ASA you got the page, you have to define it
in the anon default.psml.
You should check also what default security implies, but if also other
portlets have default security and you see them, then it is not the problem.

Good luck

Passing parameter to FileServerPortlet to select source file

2004-06-11 Thread Stefano Bianchi

Dear ALL,
is it possible to pass parameters to a FileServerPortlet? (and in general
too?)

My problem is:

1. in my left navigation jsp, I forward to ThisPsml.psml;
2. ThisPsml.psml hosts a FileServerPortlet;
3. this FileServerPortlet hosts a html file that changes i.e. with language,
as homepage-en.html, homepage-it.psml etc.

Is it possible to have only one psml and to pass to the portlet a parameter
(i.e. sfx = -en or sfx = -it) - taken from session - in order to make it
select which html to load?
Or is it necessary to have one psml for each html doc?

Thank you in advance
Stefano

Re: IFramePortlet

Dear Debora,
could you please explain a little better the problem you had?
I use only IFramePortlets to host my webapp and I never got this problem.

I deploy them under [TOMCAT]/webapps directory and use relative url for
navigation, submission etc.
Maybe you use absolute urls and since webapps are hosted in Jetspeed but are
in the same directory [TOMCAT]/webapps, once you perform an action it exit
Jetspeed and runs on its own (as Jetspeed...).

Can this help?

 Oggetto: Invoke a Jetspeed Portlet from outside of the portal container

 We have an excel spreadsheet that may contain financial ledger information
 and URL that would call our application. Our application is an applet
 running within an IFRAME portlet. This application works fine and we can
 invoke it no problem from a URL within Jetspeed. Is there a mechanism
 whereby we can invoke the Jetspeed portlet from outside of Jetspeed.

 The only resolution I can think of so far is to have a jetspeed portlet
 monitoring an execution queue which is not ideal.

 Any thoughts ?

Re: Re: Deactivate/hide printer-button

2004-06-11 Thread Stefano Bianchi
Check the mailing list, but it's quite easy: if you want i.e. your user to
customize and view only, define a mysecurity.xreg file in
jetspeed\WEB-INF\conf:

?xml version=1.0 encoding=UTF-8?
registry
security-entry name=user-customize-and-view_admin-all
meta-info
titleUserCustomize/title
descriptionUsers customize, admin all/description
/meta-info
access action=*
allow-if role=admin
xmlns:xsi=http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance;
xsi:type=java:org.apache.jetspeed.om.registry.base.BaseSecurityAllow/
/access
access action=view
allow-if role=user
xmlns:xsi=http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance;
xsi:type=java:org.apache.jetspeed.om.registry.base.BaseSecurityAllow/
/access
access action=customize
allow-if role=user
xmlns:xsi=http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance;
xsi:type=java:org.apache.jetspeed.om.registry.base.BaseSecurityAllow/
/access
/security-entry
/registry

If you want user only to view, remove the lines relative to customize, or
add other options looking at the other security.xreg files!

Hope it helps

Rather than deleting, why don't you define a proper security and use it as
administration to customize the portlet?
Of you delete the template, all other portlets won't have customization
tools, administration included!

%@ page import = org.apache.turbine.util.RunData %

data).getUserId()%fname=jetspeed:info requestedInfo=FirstName
/lname=jetspeed:info requestedInfo=LastName/email=jetspeed:info

 One possibility is via

 request.requestURI()

 in your JSP.

 I've tried it on one portlet, and it returns

/WorkflowPortal/portal/media-type/html/user/test/page/default.psml/js_pane/2
11
 which is not quite what you want, but may be good enough. (note -
 request is of type javax.servlet.http.HttpServletRequest)

Re: Converting the existing application into portal framework

2004-05-10 Thread Stefano Bianchi

Dear Karthik,
my suggestion applies to the particular case in which you have a webapps
application running under TOMCAT (as Jetspeed) and you want to embed it into
Jetspeed, using it as a frame only.

1. create a YOUR_APP.xreg in folder [TOMCAT]\wbapps\jetspeed\WEB-INF\conf,
defining an IFramePortlet (take an example from those already present in
other xreg files):

?xml version=1.0 encoding=UTF-8?
registry
portlet-entry name=YOUR_APP hidden=false type=ref
parent=IFramePortlet application=false
security-ref parent=user-view_admin-all/
meta-info
titleYOUR APP(framed)/title
descriptionYOUR APP within jetpseed!!!/description
/meta-info

classnameorg.apache.jetspeed.portal.portlets.IFramePortlet/classname
parameter name=source value=/YOUR_APP/YOUR_APP_Starting_Jsp.jsp
hidden=false cachedOnName=true cachedOnValue=true/
parameter name=width value=100% hidden=false
cachedOnName=true cachedOnValue=true/
parameter name=height value=600 hidden=false
cachedOnName=true cachedOnValue=true/
parameter name=align value=middle hidden=false
cachedOnName=true cachedOnValue=true/
parameter name=scrolling value=auto hidden=false
cachedOnName=true cachedOnValue=true/
parameter name=frameborder value=0 hidden=false
cachedOnName=true cachedOnValue=true/
parameter name=refresh value=3600 hidden=false
cachedOnName=true cachedOnValue=true/
parameter name=marginwidth value=0 hidden=false
cachedOnName=true cachedOnValue=true/
parameter name=marginheight value=0 hidden=false
cachedOnName=true cachedOnValue=true/
media-type ref=html/
url cachedOnURL=false/
category group=JetspeedYOUR_WEBAPPS_CATEGORY/category
/portlet-entry
/registry

2. stop TOMCAT;
3. get YOUR_APP.war and put it into [TOMCAT]\webapps;
4. start TOMCAT and check it create folder YOUR_APP;
5. login as Admin into Jetspeed;
6. with PSML browser, select a psml you want to use to embed  your WEBAPP;
7. open the PSML and customize it adding the YOUR APP (framed) portlet;
8. logout :-);
9. login as the user with the modified PSML and see if it works!

This should allow to have your webapp running within Jetpseed BUT (take
care) independently!!!

Have a nice day
Stefano

Hi Bianchi,

Thanks for your reply/help. Im looking for the better solution (I have no
idea of which will be better solution).

OK, now consider this:

I have a login page authenticating users. If I want to implement this in a
portal framework what steps do I need to follow? I use Jboss and my coding
is done JSP and Servlets.

Please suggest the steps I should follow.

Thanks in advance,

Re: Converting the existing application into portal framework

2004-05-06 Thread Stefano Bianchi
Dear Oliver,
you are right, but I was speaking of a one minute setup!

1. no portal context - isolated context (e .g user information have to be
submitted through url...not beautiful)
Usually, my webapps starts with a jsp retrieving user info from the portal
with proper tags.

2. no layout scheme from the portal
Correct, you have to adopt a compliant layout. It depends on webapp
complexity.

3. possibly a scrollbar hierarchy
It depends on webapp structure. Jsps + servlets work quite well since you
can define the IFramePortlet size and then
navigate inside.

Anyway, everybody got his way, and that's mine only! :-)

Cheers
Stefano

Hi,

I am working on this problems, too. But when you use an iframe you have
significant disadvantages:

1. no portal context - isolated context (e .g user information have to be
submitted through url...not beautiful)
2. no layout scheme from the portal
3. possibly a scrollbar hierarchy

the minimal effort speaks for an usage of an iframe. but if you use
javascript or target=_top you possibly loose the context of the iframe and
your application is showed in a own browser window. Also newer browser
versions are required, too.

Greetings

Could it be related to Jetspeed? (the only webapps running under it...)

 Hi,

 i think this happens when one of your registry file is broken. Look in
 your Jetspeed.log to see what file is broken, replace it, and start
 tomcat again.
 All should work ...

Re: create new user

2004-04-22 Thread Stefano Bianchi
Unfortunately the person who did it does not work here anymore!
I will try to explain myself AFAIK:

   1. there is a class handling the process for creating new account in
source code for Jetspeed: download Jetpseed source code and find it;
   2. change it and make it work as you need (we modified table
turbine_users and turbine_users_info to store more data. so you will have to
rewrite queries etc.), then compile it and substitute the old one in
binaries;
   3. then modify properly the .vm or .jsp page (it depends on which format
you use, but probably only .vm handle this kind of things) that contains the
profilation from in order to allow the user to enter the data you handle in
the new version of profilation class.

I'm not a technical wizard, probably someone listening has some more hints
for you!
Sorry, hope it helps a bit anyway :-( !

What about changing the profilation class in order to have it handling

We changed it an got it working on our portal.
Obviously you have also to change the .jsp or .vm that handles the form.
Hope it helps

Re: Portlets without Icons

2004-04-08 Thread Stefano Bianchi
Dear Andrew,
each single portlet has its own security defined through administration psml
browser.
Then, if you want portlets for a specific role to have different security
constraints, you have to specify them one by one.
E.g. I have for anon user portlets with only customize button and portlets
with customize, minimize and maximize buttons.
I defined the local-security.xreg file you can find below :

?xml version=1.0 encoding=UTF-8?
registry
security-entry name=MY_user-use_admin-all
meta-info
titleMY Use/title
descriptionUsers can print, minimize and maximize, Admin
have full access./description
/meta-info
access action=*
allow-if role=admin
xmlns:xsi=http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance;
xsi:type=java:org.apache.jetspeed.om.registry.base.BaseSecurityAllow/
/access
access action=view
allow-if role=user
xmlns:xsi=http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance;
xsi:type=java:org.apache.jetspeed.om.registry.base.BaseSecurityAllow/
/access
access action=minimize
allow-if role=user
xmlns:xsi=http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance;
xsi:type=java:org.apache.jetspeed.om.registry.base.BaseSecurityAllow/
/access
access action=maximize
allow-if role=user
xmlns:xsi=http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance;
xsi:type=java:org.apache.jetspeed.om.registry.base.BaseSecurityAllow/
/access
access action=print_friendly
allow-if role=user
xmlns:xsi=http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance;
xsi:type=java:org.apache.jetspeed.om.registry.base.BaseSecurityAllow/
/access
access action=personalize
allow-if role=user
xmlns:xsi=http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance;
xsi:type=java:org.apache.jetspeed.om.registry.base.BaseSecurityAllow/
/access
/security-entry
security-entry name=MY_user-customize_admin-all
meta-info
titleMY Customize/title
descriptionUsers customize./description
/meta-info
access action=*
allow-if role=admin
xmlns:xsi=http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance;
xsi:type=java:org.apache.jetspeed.om.registry.base.BaseSecurityAllow/

xmlns:xsi=http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance;
xsi:type=java:org.apache.jetspeed.om.registry.base.BaseSecurityAllow/
/access
/security-entry

Stefano

Stefano,
I am having the same problem as Antony with the security permissions on
portlets. I need to make it so that everyone with role of user can do
anything they want to the portlets in their home pane, but then I have
other panes where I want the user to only be able to view and print the
content and nothing else. I tried to implement the security.xreg entry
you defined below, with no luck. I either get zero options on the title
bars or all the options. Am I missing something, or can you only
display all or none of the permissions. Any response would be a great
help.
Thanks,

If they are Jsp, you can simply embed some code to create a popup

Dear Antony,

the default page you access when you come to the portal is
anon/html/default.psml.
Set it so to embed as many jsp portlets as you need through administration
tools such as psml browser.
Remember to include in them the link to open the popup for logging in, or
simply define for anon user a different psml containing the login page, and
then provide in the jsp pages a link to this psml :

%@ taglib uri='/WEB-INF/templates/jsp/tld/template.tld' prefix='jetspeed'
%
%@ page import = org.apache.jetspeed.services.resources.JetspeedResources
%
A href=jetspeed:contentUri

No popup, no javascript problem, all in Jetspeed!

Hope it helps

Dear Antony,
you access anon user defult.psml if you do not log in.
When I needed an authomatic login for a free inside tour I created a
freetour visitor user and I added in the left navigation jsp page table the
following code:

%@ taglib uri='/WEB-INF/templates/jsp/tld/template.tld' prefix='jetspeed'
%
%@ page import = org.apache.jetspeed.services.resources.JetspeedResources
%

form method=POST action=jetspeed:dynamicUri/
enctype=application/x-www-form-urlencoded
  ENTER TO VISIT!
  input type=hidden name=action
value=%=JetspeedResources.getString(action.login)%
  input type=hidden name=username value=visitor
  input type=hidden name=password value=freetour
  input type=image name=submit value=jetspeed:l10n
key=USERFORM_LOGIN/ SRC=images/visit.gif
/form

When you click on image visit.gif you log in automathically accessing
default-psml for freetour visitor.

Hope it helps somehow

Dear Andrew,
if you use jsp for layout look at

td align=center valign=top
%// Enable for Debugging (Included servlet Error: 500) Including:

be sure valign=top.
If you use vm look at
[TOMCAT]\\webapps\jetspeed\WEB-INF\templates\vm\layouts\html\default.vm

td valign=top
  $screen_placeholder

be sure valign=top.

Default.jsp and Default.vm are quite powerful and easy to use for modifying

Hope it helps, good luck

Re: Jetspeed 1.4 - trouble using jsp instead of velocity template

Dear Murphil,

the one I suggested should be the only change in JR.p relative to this
specific issue.

System should then ignore topnav.vm, leftnav.vm, bottomnav.vm when
formatting the portal layout.

You just have to make all changes you need (images, background) in relative
files in [TOMCAT]\webapps\jetspeed\WEB-INF\templates\jsp\navigations\html.

Properties files are long to read and analyse, but they are quite powerful!

Good luck

Re: Changing icons

2004-03-25 Thread Stefano Bianchi
Dear Prahbu,
you have simply to change .gif files in [TOMCAT]\webapps\jetspeed\images.

If you want to show only some buttons, you can create your own
local-security.xreg file in [TOMCAT]\webapps\jetspeed\WEB-INF\conf (see
security.xreg file as an example), specifying which actions you want to
allow and whcich not.

Please consider you will have to specify for each portlet through
administration tools (PSML browser) its security layout, or, if you want all
portlets to have the same buttons, specify your own as the default one (but
change the name of the original Jetspeed default one!!!).

Hope it helps

Dear Antony,
it depends on what you need, but you can choose between several security
options when you manage portlet layout as administrator.
If you choose e.g. user_see - admin_all, users won't see any customization

I suggest you to define your own security layout in the proper files in
jetspeed\WEBINF\conf, or to have a look at entries already there to
understqnd how they work.

Thank you Jason, this confirms my experience too.
Maybe due to my poor English, could you please be clearer about:

 One thing to watch out for, is that you need to create a source

 set it up pretty well but the admin pages still show the URL parameter.

What do you mean with source parameter?

The IFramePortlet is definitely the route to go when bringing in pages
from an existing web application that has navigation - like a search
screen from another app that posts search criteria and gets back some
data. I am certainly no expert, but I got it working.

One thing to watch out for, is that you need to create a source

Doing a file compare between the 2 java classes (WebPagePortlet), there
are some differences, but I was unable to determine from comments any
reasoning for those differences. Others probably know why the changes
and for what reasons. I just use the WebPagePortlet2 one, sounds newer

 WebBrowserPortlet
 as the parent, initially, all the portlets in a page will display properly
 but once I click a button
 on Portlet A for instance, all the other portlets will display the same
 result as Portlet A.
 I wanted each portlet to work on its own, when I am using one portlet, I
am
 expecting
 the other portlets to stay to whatever state they were before I use
Portlet
 A.

 Is there a parameter that I missed to make each portlet independent of
each
 other???

 Thank you!

Tag list

2004-02-25 Thread Stefano Bianchi

Where can I find some more information on tags I can use within Jetspeed to
retrieve information about user, current psml etc.?
I tried to look at JSP1_1andJetspeedTagLib.jsp examples but I think there is
more hidden...

Thank you
Stefano

Fw: WebPagePortlet vs IFramePortlet

2004-02-25 Thread Stefano Bianchi

Dear Jason,
here an example of IFramePortlet I use:

?xml version=1.0 encoding=UTF-8?
registry
portlet-entry name=Review hidden=false
type=ref parent=IFramePortlet application=false
security-ref parent=user-view_admin-all/
meta-info
titleReview/title
descriptionReview Service Portlet/description
/meta-info

classnameorg.apache.jetspeed.portal.portlets.IFramePortlet/classname
parameter name=source
value=/Review/RWStartFWDJsp.jsp hidden=false
cachedOnName=true cachedOnValue=true/
parameter name=width value=100% hidden=false
cachedOnName=true cachedOnValue=true/
parameter name=height value=600 hidden=false
cachedOnName=true cachedOnValue=true/
parameter name=align value=center hidden=false
cachedOnName=true cachedOnValue=true/
parameter name=scrolling value=auto hidden=false
cachedOnName=true cachedOnValue=true/
parameter name=frameborder value=0 hidden=false
cachedOnName=true cachedOnValue=true/
parameter name=refresh value=3600 hidden=false
cachedOnName=true cachedOnValue=true/
parameter name=marginwidth value=0 hidden=false
cachedOnName=true cachedOnValue=true/
parameter name=marginheight value=0 hidden=false
cachedOnName=true cachedOnValue=true/
media-type ref=html/
url cachedOnURL=true/
category group=JetspeedWorksafe/category
category group=JetspeedReview/category
/portlet-entry
/registry

As you can see I use source parameter, but I think it is the same you can
find in the Admin configuration tool.
I use Jetspeed 1.4-b3 and I never use Admin configuration tools to set up
portlets parameters since it seems I have to change everything twice before
my changes are accepted by the system. Did you experience anything similar?

Thank you for your time attention
Stefano

Stefano,

I probably made a bigger deal out of it than was necessary, but
essentially when you are running under admin and adding new portlets
(IFramePortlet's), there is an URL field, but that is not what is used
as the source location for the IFramePortlet. Rather, an additional
parameter is used called source, which you need to add under the
parameters section with your URL.

Looking at Javadoc API documentation for the IFramePortlet, it is more
explanatory, hopefully I was able to steer you there, but I may have
just made a simple problem more confusing to you - my bad if that is the
case.

Thank you Jason, this confirms my experience too.
Maybe due to my poor English, could you please be clearer about:

 One thing to watch out for, is that you need to create a source
 parameter that has the url of your starting page, and not the URL
 parameter which you would have been using - the Javadocs describe how
to
 set it up pretty well but the admin pages still show the URL
parameter.

What do you mean with source parameter?

Thank you
Stefano

The IFramePortlet is definitely the route to go when bringing in pages
from an existing web application that has navigation - like a search
screen from another app that posts search criteria and gets back some
data. I am certainly no expert, but I got it working.

One thing to watch out for, is that you need to create a source
parameter that has the url of your starting page, and not the URL
parameter which you would have been using - the Javadocs describe how to
set it up pretty well but the admin pages still show the URL parameter.

Doing a file compare between the 2 java classes (WebPagePortlet), there
are some differences, but I was unable to determine from comments any
reasoning for those differences. Others probably know why the changes
and for what reasons. I just use the WebPagePortlet2 one, sounds newer
g.

Hi,

could anyone provide me with a simple explanation about differences
between WebPagePortlets and IFramePortlet?

And between WebPagePortlet1 and WebPagePortlet2?

I'm developing a portal in which I embed different webapps into
Jetspeed, that actually acts like a webapps container.
I think IFramePortlet is the only one

Re: Tag list

2004-02-25 Thread Stefano Bianchi

Dear Brian,
thank you for your suggestion, but I do not use Velocity.
I would rather prefer to use something like:

jetspeed:info requestedInfo=Email /
jetspeed:info requestedInfo=FirstName /
jetspeed:uriLookup type=Customize /

in my JSP pages to obtain information from portal.
I am searching a list of possible tags to insert (and their meaning, if
possible!). Any further suggestion?

Thank you for your time attention
Stefano

 If you are using Velocity, check out this link:
   http://jakarta.apache.org/jetspeed/site/portlet_config_Velocity.html

 Presumably you can access the object directly from JSP, as jslink is of
class
 org.apache.jetspeed.util.template.BaseJetspeedLink.

 Brian

Re: [J1 LEAKS ?] RE: jetspeed process and memory leak

2004-01-14 Thread Stefano Bianchi

I also experienced database crashes due to Too many connections.
We solved our problem simply using Tomcat Database Connection Pool and
changing a bit our code.
You can find information at
http://jakarta.apache.org/tomcat/tomcat-4.1-doc/jndi-datasource-examples-howto.html#Database%20Connection%20Pool%20(DBCP)%20Configurations
Hope it helps somebody!

I don't know what you mean with long time, but the only troubles we have are
database-related. Sometimes the portal breaks due to Too many connections.
...and even this could be our fault.

We NEVER experienced any problems with memory leaks, and we have 2 different
Jetspeed based projects running - one for over a year and a second one over
3-4 months (with restarts due to updates of course, not without break).
Although we have less then 1000 users, I think Jetspeed is quite stable it
this concerns.

 these suggest that tomcat itself causes memory leaks, and is
 exacerbated by jetspeed's leaks.

I've just read this mail and see this :

 We first ran into this bug when hot-deploying JetSpeed - about seven
 times would cause an out of memory w/ the default heap size.
 JetSpeed had so many leaks itself that we dropped down to bares bones
 test app with a servlet, but no JSPs or third party libraries.

Jetspeed has so many leaks ???
We've made some tests over here for potential leak and didn't find anything
alarming.
The only stuff that was potentially leaking was the Tool object from
velocity, staying in memory even after a request is done, we didn't really
understand how to use it so we plan not to use it anymore.

Did anyone ever really meet those memory leak, or is it more the portlets
developped by a end-user that could leak... ?

That's just cause I was a little afraid of those lines, but already seen so
many people yelling at opensource projects saying it was leaking where it
wasn't that I'd like any end-user real experience.

Tell me someone already had a jetspeed portal running for a long time ??? :)
