Happy to say that today I'm seeing full, scriptable, Jmol in Java-less,
WebGL-less simple HTML5. Can't believe my eyes. Just very strange. Some
refining to do. Surfaces are fast to calculate but somewhat slow to display
when there is no WebGL. I suspect it won't be until I have a few weeks off
at the end of December and into January when this is brought to the
"mature" stage. But a lot of people are going to be saying they can't
believe what they see. And for small molecules, at least, it's pretty much
a robust implementation of Jmol in pure JavaScript. Great fun.

Re: [Jmol-users] Apple Java

2012-10-23 Thread Evans, Michael James
Yep, this is quite an annoying Java update from Apple. As far as I know,
rolling back to Java 6 isn't even possible, since Apple provided its own
versions of Java 6.

FYI, clearing the Java cache via System Preferences > Java also fixes problems
with Safari. Java in Chrome won't work because Chrome is 32-bit. Looking
forward to a mature JSmol… :-)

Rebooted machine. Java now works in Safari.

Phil,

After the first update via auto update, Java is broken in Safari but not
Firefox. Also the Java control in Utilities is gone.

After suggested re-update via downloaded DMG file, same result. BUT I noticed
that the Java control is now in Settings under Other. This may have been the
case with the first update attempt, but I think I checked Settings, and I don't
remember seeing it. The settings in the Java control seem ok.

We only had one issue. The Java 7 update 9 enforces stricter security
policies. As a result our main site (a Wiki) failed until we corrected the
Apache configuration against the https certificate. It now works fine.
