[JOYnet] An Open Heart and a Free Mind for Baby Jesus

2001-12-26 Thread Shobith Thomas

Hi Dear Friends

Did Jesus take birth in me

So one more Christmas is over and hope u
all had baby jesus born in my heart. My
sister was here and I was thinking how
I would welcome him since the whole day
I will have to be with her.

During the Midnight Mass baby jesus
gave me a small thought. What have you for me???.
I thought and told him to come AND TAKE MY HEART

Yes he came into my heart and was with me
till the evening. At about 6:00 PM my sister
left and I felt lonely.Over and again the
Holy Spirit was saying to me that the
Holy Trinity was within.

Last Easter my sister had come to stay and the
Mother at a nearby convent
had allowed her to stay there.I called the
particular mother who is now at Tirupur
the place where my sister is studying
She told that my sister did not even call her.
I felt bad and called her to ask her to
call the same Mother.I told her to take
down the number and she told me that she
cannot do it today since she was new to
the house she was staying for the day and
the children were making all sorts of noise.

I told her that it was of no use telling to her
and she started crying.I felt bad only then and
asked her Sorry since she was my sister and
I cannot bear her cry.

Jesus told me still he was there and I was
comforted and after a while he gave me
another thought that my family is also important
asked me not to break family ties by way of
small mistakes(had I not spoke rudely she would have
not cried) and had I recieved him when he said
He was there before the ph call nothing
of this sort would have happened.I am requesting
all to pray for my sister so that
she is comforted by the lord and would my cheerful
old sister when I would call her
in the evening.Thats all

He has comforted me and is still in me.Now I feel
a lot free as I share you the my
experience.

I was thinking of saving something for Christmas for
helping someone and had asked baby jesus to help me find a
way.We had gone to our aunty's house for Christmas to wish
them and we had planned to go to a hotel for lunch.
But as we were about to leave my uncle asked me
where were we going and I told him to a Hotel.thats it
he would not allow me. So I was able to save that money
for some good.We had a great lunch there.

So thats all flocks it takes just an open heart and a free mind

He will come.
He will hold you.

Yea He Took Birth in Me deep in my Heart

With Love and prayers in the name of Jesus Mary and Joseph

[JOYnet] Spirit Filled Christmas

2001-12-26 Thread Alfred Samji

Hope everybody is enjoying a good Christmas season. Our internet connection
was dead for a couple of days till today and so could not send a greeting
earlier. I tried sending it through our corporate email, but the 'joynet
server' kicked me out as it does not accept unregistered entrants. Anyway,

Wishing all JOYnetters and their families all the best during the Christmas
season and hoping that the JOY of Christ be with all of you all the days of
your lives.

Regards in Christ,

[JOYnet] A funny Carol experience!

2001-12-26 Thread John Wilfred

Dear Joynetters,
I remember, some 15 years back when our diocese was newly formed, the parish
was new, a parish priest was newly appointed and so for Christmas there was no
proper group for carols. The parish priest wanted to have the carols, atleast
in a simple way. He called me and my friend Mini, taught us some carol songs
in Malayalam( which I wrote in Hindi ). Then we three took baby Jesus and
went from one family unit to other giving the message of joy and peace.
In one family unit we couldn't reach at the appointed time. When we reached
there with our new born King, an elder active parish leader from the family
unit poured out in filthy language on us. It came as a great shock to all the
people who had gathered there, including us. But, our parish priest didn't
utter a word. He gave the christmas message with a smiling face. I and Mini
were on the verge of bursting into tears. But we sang carols ( even though
with great difficulty ) and greeted everyone.
Later on for a few years, when carol singing came, that particular incident
made me very sad. But now when I think of it, I cannot help but--burst
laughing.
Praise God!

[JOYnet] Miracles of the Lord.

2001-12-26 Thread Alfred Samji

Am sharing how the good God touched me during this Christmas season. It was
a month back that I got a sore on the side of my small finger on my toe
because of shoe pinching. It hardened and started to get painful day by day.
I tried my own tricks to ease the pain and had been limping all this month.
It was after almost a month that when during mass this Friday that I was
praying looking at the Lord in the monstrance and something asked me to pray
for the healing of my toe. I did so and came out of the church. Just outside
was the counter I was attending to selling church calendars (money going to
charity). As I came out another of the volunteers at the counter who also
happened to be a male nurse noticed me limping and asked me why. I told him
about my toe and he gave me medical advice. Tried the advice and my toe is
getting better.

This friend and me have been attending to the same counter for more than a
month and I had been limping all those days, but it was only on the moment I
prayed to the Lord that he asked me why and gave me advice. I thank the good
Lord who works in mysterious ways for His love for His servants, for the
care He has for His children. Praise the Lord.

Another thing that happened this morning was; me and my friend were on the
way to church this morning. We got out of the transport bus and it was a
five minute walk from the bus stop to church, but we were going to be late
as it was almost time for the mass. I just jokingly told my friend, if we
had a bicycle we could have made it faster, and just then a car stopped
behind us asking us to get in. We made it in time for mass. The love of our
Lord is extraordinary, that is concerned about even the little things about
His children. Praise and thanks to our loving Father.

[JOYnet] Little Linda''s Christmas

2001-12-26 Thread josephcares

Hai folks,

It was Christmass eve and it was time to distribute the gifts, which Santa had left
for them. This year it was the turn of little Linda to pass on the gifts from under
the Christmass Tree (every year it’s the previledge of a family member). So little
Linda was very happy and she went about diatributing the gifts very nicely.

After she had finished giving gifts to all in the family, she was still looking all
around the Christmas Tree ! Little Linda’s father thought that she was looking for her
gift and asked her, “Linda my child what are you looking for?” To which little Linda
replier, “daddy I thought that christmass is the birthday of Jesus, so I was looking
for the gift for him, I think everyone might have forgotten him, the birthday boy.”

So folks did we forget Jesus this Christmass, or .

Love and Prayers,
C.C.Joseph

[JOYnet] A funfilled Christmas carol I had as acollege student

2001-12-26 Thread Thomas Mathew

A Carol experience as a College student

This morning, I read a wonderful carol experience from Annie from Cochin.
Reading that event triggered laughter in me. I think I like to share with
you a memorable carol experience I had as a College Student. I lived at
Paippad and the Parish I attended was St. Joseph’s parish at
Kunnamthanam. We had a good youth group and I happened to be their leader
at that time.

We had some people in the parish who didn’t like the youth who were very
vibrant in the community. Some how a few of them couldn’t stand the youth
coming together with the parish priest. I think for them it was a kind of
fear. At that time girls and boys if ever they were seen talking to one
another there was only one meaning and that was they were in love and
some of the parents didn’t like the idea to have the girls and boys in
the same class for even catechetical classes. Since we didn’t have any
convent in our parish at that time and there was no alternative, I think
some of the parents send their children to Catechism. More besi! des the
teachers youth, including myself.

One year as usual we set out for Christmas carol.  Some fifty youth and
younger ones, all boys started from the church with a prayer and blessing
from our Parish priest. We walked with torches and Petrol-max and some of
us had sticks, either to use as an aid to walk or to ward off stray dogs.

Walking the terrene with torches and petrol-max was real fun. I remember
once I almost burned my hand, handling the petrol-max. From one family to
the other at times we had to walk a good distance. No Apartment complex
ideas at that time existed in that area. You know we are from Malanadu.

I remember one family didn't even bother to light up the star or even to
open the door for us. We had no electricity in those areas. Clean village
life. In one family as we entered, the dogs came out as though ready to
eat some of us and frightened, we sounded the drum all the more louder
and the dogs, I think didn't appear for a few days. The house owner was
always angry with the youth for caroling. His view was that, instead of
wandering around on Christmas Eve, the youth have to stay home and reach
the Church on time. (Of course always we made it a point to reach the
Parish Church before the midnight Mass. Besides I thi! nk he was also
poor in sharing his money, as I remember. He thought that the youth were
together to drink and to make mischief and  the contrary was the  truth.
We had no drunks in the group. The profits from the carol were submitted
to the parish and that was used to build homes for the poor.) But this
wonderful house owner came out screaming. What a shocking message during
Christmas time!

We were some fifty youth, happy and joyful, singing all the Christmas
songs. To cap our joy we were baptized in fire. This man said all the bad
words. I didn't say a word. I didn't like anyone to misbehave in the
group.  As we were leaving the house without singing the carol songs, I
noticed the young children who were members of the mission league, so
ashamed of their dad's misbehavior.  As we left the residence and were
off the property, Appachankutty, a classmate of mine sung louder Thannathu
sweekarichu Modamode Pokunnitha Njangalwhich made that house owner fur!
iously utter all the bad words he has learned. Appachankutty asked me Do
you think I have to teach him some new words? What he doesn't know? . We
laughed and left that place. We always had laughter about that incident.
All the time we friends came together we never forgot Appachankutty,
which made us to burst into laughter amidst other funny incidents we went
through. I think it is better to laugh because some of those characters
are dead and gone by this time. God Bless them too.

It is nice to hear from you the Christmas memories you had, like what
Annie has shared this morning.

God Bless you

[JOYnet] Solitude is the furnace of transformation

2001-12-26 Thread biji james

Dear Friends,

“Solitude is the furnace of transformation.”
-Henri J. M. Nouwen

The Power of Solitude

Psalm 4:1-4
1
Answer me when I call, O God of my righteousness! You
have relieved me in my distress; Be gracious to me and
hear my prayer.
2
O sons of men, how long will my honor become a
reproach? How long will you love what is worthless and
aim at deception? Selah.
3
But know that the LORD has set apart the godly man for
Himself; The LORD hears when I call to Him.
4
Tremble, and do not sin; Meditate in your heart upon
your bed, and be still. Selah.

Clearly, we live in a loud society. This is not simply
a problem in some parts of the world; rather,
industrialized society and fast-paced living have
filled the world’s airwaves with what can only be
described as “noise.” Some of the noise is useful; for
example, a late-breaking news report on all channels
that warns of an approaching storm. However, many
things that fill our ears are practically pointless.
Why is the noise there, and why do we need it?

In Celebration of Discipline, Richard Foster
speculates, “One reason we can hardly bear to remain
silent is that it makes us feel so helpless . . . . If
we are silent, who will take control?” Very often,
words are not only our means of communication, they
are our means of control. We use words to manipulate
our environment, to indelibly set our fingerprints on
any given situation. If we don’t speak up, then
someone else will swoop in and take charge.

Sometimes, this is exactly what needs to happen.
Foster continues, “If we are silent, who will take
control? God will take control.” Our prayer lives are
too often marked by an overabundance of talking,
petitioning, and posturing. It is of extreme value to
spend time daily talking with the Lord. However, it is
also necessary to spend time in utter solitude before
Him, allowing Him to speak to you uninterrupted. Take
a moment to filter out the “noise,” and listen for
God’s voice.
