[JOYnet] I was purified by God
Dear beloved in christ I have been purified by God in a special way. Saturday we had a beautiful night vigil. We had a program in Zulur for the youth of St.Thomas Church. After the Mass we had a music session and the a talk on the love of God. I was having a wonderful time with the Lord and then the Panel Session came and I was a panelist to speak how Holy Eucharistic celebration helped me. Satan entered me as I was speaking and he told me Good Work Shobith and that all are impressed at your speech and I became very very proud. After the Panel session we had an adoration. The first song I was so much pride filled about my sound that I made a big mistake by singing the wrong song. Thats it .God just gave me a big hit. We returned and I was not at all feeling fine. I was not feeling happy and was not the same Shobith who always had a galla great time with God and now I did feel the difference when Iam with God and when I am not with him. Praise the Lord. During our regular prayer session the lord gave me the power to acknnowledge my pride to the group. I had tears of repentance flowing down my cheeks and there was a flood of tears.Praise the lord when he gave me the power to cry over my pride. He cleansed me.He took away my pride. Please pray that I may be kept safe from Pride because if I have pride then there is no existence of God and it is I who is present. Today morning since it was Ash Monday I went for the Mass and I had been experiencing the love of God. During the Mass Pradeep gave me a beautiful Peace be With You.Praise the Lord. One man who had some harsh talks with me was very amicable to me and he asked me about the Ash Monday Ash cross on my forehead and I had the chance to explain him about God and it was a sign of our repentence for our sins .Praise the Lord with Love in Jesus Mary and Joseph shobith coimbatore _ Join SQAtester.com Community --- http://www.sqatester.com/testersarea/joinus.htm This mail is generated from JOYnet, a Jesus Youth mailing list. [JOYnet] Outreach Programs
Jesus youth Mumbai Mission Team is a great dream on this year. As a stepping stone to fulfilling this dream our friends visited some of the mission centers of Maharashtra on 11th Nov., 22nd Dec 2001 ,26 - 27th Jan. 2002. Our main plan was to visit the parishes and meet and help the members /youth those who attended our Cultural Exchange Program in Kerala in October 2001, as a part of the Jesus Youth Family Gathering. Right from the beginning of our mission, we could feel that the Lord has leading us on all our ways. On 11th Nov. 2001, we had visited the youth of Vasai Diocese who had attended the Program. The time we see them observing their thirst for Jeus and the Word of God. We had conducted a one-day program on 22nd Dec. 2001 for them. The response to the Program was great. The 8 youth who had attended our family gathering have started 10 prayer groups now. Every day evening they visit the houses and share their experiences and at the end they pray in one house. The mission in-charge takes these youngsters to different villages by his-own vechile. Also they have organised some programmes in the Diocesan level. Last month they did the arrangements to take 60 people to attend the retreat at Tabor Ashram, Kalyan. Now they take a second batch of 120 people for the retreat. Friends, here we have to think how much we were doing for our neighbours, our work place or where were we are as we got this much training and love of him. To learn from this go and proclaim the good news. On 24th of this month we are again conducting a one-day program In this January two of our friends visited Amravathy and Nagapur mission centres also. From the reception we got at Amaravathi, we could really feel that the Lord had arranged everything for us. Eventhough the Parish Priest didn't know us but still he did everything possible to make us comfortable. If we were received with such an enthusiasm and love, at the parishes, it is only because of the change in the life and by the activities of the youth who attended our Oct. program. Whatever they gained from the program - the word of god and the love the made their lives alive- they gave it in their parishes in the form of visiting the houses, sharing their experiences and also organising various prayer services and programmes in their own parishes and also by being the messages of love to the neighboring parishes. The seminarians at Nagpur Seminary who are also an ex-Jesus Youth, expressed their wish to visit all the villages of Maharashtra and to have a combined effort with Jesus Youth- Mumbai, to spread the message of love of Jesus. If Jesus Youth can take up this challenge tomorrow, it would be the most precious gift that Jesus Youth can render towards the evangelization of India at large. So dear friends we have once again request you to all your prayer support for all our activities. Now we had two intercession groups - every Wednesday and Saturday. Apart of this we had mainly two gatherings in every month ; On every IIIrd Sunday - Malayalam ( 9.30AM to 2.30 PM) On every IVth Sunday - English ( 11 AM to 4.30 PM) lots of love and prayers Sojan K. Re: [JOYnet] DOUBTS- IDOL WORSHIP
I remember when I was Kid my parents used to carry me to venerate a statue in the church . I used to think that Jesus Mary resides in the statue . at times I used to struggle to get to the same .Sometimes when the church was crowded we almost trampled over each other to get to the statue Praise God its not the same anymore . If I cant get to venerate the statue ..its ok with me now as I know the Place where God resides :-) Yes it is very difficult to make people understand that ..Times are changing so are we .Thanks to the renewal happening all over... People are getting to know God more personally rather than The God on the altar. Anyway ..I just want to narrate an incident with my late uncle who had left the church then . I always escaped him cos he used to qt me on the statues concept..I had no answer for it ...I hardly read scriptures too at that time .So I knew I wasn't in a position to answer to any of his cross-questions. One fine day he happened to get hold of me ..he threw the same Qt on me again ...(by the way I was the Favorite of all nieces ) He asked me are u venerating the Photograph/sculptor for their marvelous work ??? Well I was zapped wasn't prepared for the answer ..but ..I quietly prayed to the holy spirit to guide me as I was praying my eyes fell on his wife snap on the wall. I asked him ...uncle y have u kept your snap in the house ,to this he replied Welchy this house belongs to me ...I am the owner of the house ..that's y the snap Ohh I see!!! I replied ...if u can keep your snap there on the way to glorify yourself...y not the Lords picture then I looked at his daughter (who stayed in the house alone when her parents were in Goa .) then to my uncle I said Glenes (that's His daughter ) is at times frustrated when she does not find both her parents around. She has to do everything on her own in Mumbai It sad for a Gal to stay lonely here without here parents She feels so lost bogged down But something marvelous happens each time she looks at the parents snap..she is up-lifted ..Your snap consoles speaks to her. She feels that she is no longer alone .Its her parents love always with her Its the same with our statues in the church they are reminders that we are not alone ..There is some one who cares for us . at the Death Bed of my Uncle ,,,I heard him reciting the Hail Mary after years together . Many a times as I look at the picture of the agony in the Garden ..I am reminded of Jesus agony then . his agony now How painful it must be to the lord at the Garden !! his sweat turning into blood ...Science says is the when the person is extreme pain...that's what happens Ohh my what tormenting pain for Jesus . By the way We had the statute of Ol of Fatima at my place yesterday. My neighbors family came over prayed together . the end of it we relished ourselves with Chana . That it!!! Good day God bless Welchy Mumbai This mail is generated from JOYnet, a Jesus Youth mailing list. [JOYnet] Re: IDOL WORSHIP
Hi again netters, Joining in on the discussion on 'odol worship'. Sharing a few lines from authorised catholic sites, and also a few of what the Lord taught. It is rather lengthy. Praise the Lord. Do Catholics Worship Statues? Catholics worship statues! Despite how ridiculous the claim is, people still make this accusation. They say that because Catholics have statues in their churches and pray in front of them, they are violating God's commandment: You shall not make for yourself a graven image or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in earth beneath, or that is in water under the earth: you shall not bow down to them or serve them (Ex. 20:4-5); Alas, this people have sinned a great sin; they have made for themselves gods of gold (Ex. 32:31). This tract will examine the standard Fundamentalist arguments against the ancient Christian practice of using images, and it will as provide a brief biblical response to these arguments, showing the Scriptural evidence for this practice. First, let's point out that it's right to warn people against the sin of idolatry. But the accusation that Catholics are idolaters because they have images of Christ and the saints is completely incorrect, being based on a misunderstanding or ignorance of what the Bible says about the purpose and use (both good and bad) of statues. Anti-Catholic writer Loraine Boettner, in his book Roman Catholicism, claims that it is a sin to have statues because God has forbidden the use of images in worship (p. 281). Many Protestants embrace this claim, yet if they were to search the scriptures (cf. John 5:39), they would find that exactly the opposite is true. Not only did God never condemn the use of statues in worship (though to be sure he did condemn the worship of statues), he actually commanded their use! GOD SAID TO MAKE THEM While Protestants and others quote Exodus 20:4-5 to bolster their charge of Catholic statue worship, they forget about the numerous other passages where the Lord commands the carving of statues: And you shall make two cherubim of gold [i.e., two carved statues of angels]; of hammered work shall you make them, on the two ends of the mercy seat. Make one cherub on the one end, and one cherub on the other end; of one piece of the mercy seat shall you make the cherubim on its two ends. The cherubim shall spread out their wings above, overshadowing the mercy seat with their wings, their faces one to another; toward the mercy seat shall the faces of the cherubim be (Ex. 25:18-20). David gave Solomon the plan for the altar of incense made of refined gold, and its weight; also his plan for the golden chariot of the cherubim that spread their wings and covered the ark of the covenant of the Lord. All this he made clear by the writing of the hand of the Lord concerning it all, all the work to be done according to the plan (1 Chr. 28:18-19). Note that all this was directed according to divinely inspired writing. Ezekiel 41:15 describes graven images in the Temple: on the walls round about in the inner room and [on] the nave were carved likenesses of cherubim. THE RELIGIOUS USE OF IMAGES During a plague of serpents he sent to punish the wicked Israelites, God told Moses to make [a statue of] a fiery serpent, and set it on a pole; and every one who is bitten, when he sees it shall live. So Moses made a bronze serpent, and set it on a pole; and if a serpent bit any man, he would look at the bronze serpent and live (Num. 21:8-9). The fact that one had to look at the bronze statue of the serpent in order to be healed shows that statues could be used ritually, not merely as religious decorations. Catholics use statues, paintings, and other artistic devices to recall the person or thing depicted. Just as it is helps to remember one's mother by looking at her photograph, so it helps to recall the example of the saints by looking at pictures of them. Catholics also use statues as teaching tools. In the early Church they were especially useful for the instruction of the illiterate. Many Protestants themselves have pictures of Jesus and other Bible pictures in Sunday school for purposes of teaching children, especially those who haven't learned to read. Catholics also use statues to commemorate certain people and events, much like Protestant churches that have three-dimensional nativity scenes at Christmas. If one measured Protestants by the same rule, then by using these graven images, they would be practicing the idolatry which they accuse Catholics of practicing. But the fact is, there's no idolatry going on in these situations. God forbids the worship of images, but he doesn't ban the making of images in general. If he had, movies, videos, photographs, manger scenes, paintings, drawings, and all sorts of things would be banned, since they too are images. WHAT ABOUT BOWING? Sometimes anti-Catholics cite Deuteronomy 5:9, where God said concerning
[JOYnet] Palestenian homes become stations of cross
BIRZEIT, West Bank, FEB. 10, 2002 (Zenit.org).- Homes in the Palestinian city of Birzeit have become Stations of the Cross, given the difficulty of Christians going to Jerusalem to pray. This experience, in a city with one of the most important Palestinian universities, is already producing spiritual fruits, Father Abouna Iyad Twal of Regina Pacis Church told ZENIT. This special way of praying the Stations of the Cross is reminding every family of Birzeit of Christ's love in these difficult times, in which each one of them has a painful story or life experience to tell, the priest said. With this initiative, we are experiencing a great spiritual lesson that, regardless of the pain and the hard time we experience in our daily lives, we have a mission to accomplish, a faith to believe in, and God's love to share and make his love real in our daily lives, he added. Father Twal said the initiative has been very positive. People were waiting in the houses to pray and keep the candle of hope lit so that one day we will celebrate the Resurrection, he said. The parish priest appealed to Catholics in other places to continue with us on this path and pray with us that one day we will realize our dream of justice and a peaceful life in the 'Land of Absent Peace.' [JOYnet] The Pickle Jar
Hi Joynetters, Here is something i liked very much and i wish to share it with you... As you read it please pray for those who have helped you to become what you are today... Love and Prayers Ravi THE PICKLE JAR The pickle jar as far back as I can remember sat on the floor beside the dresser in my parents' bedroom. When he got ready for bed, Dad would empty his pockets and toss his coins into the jar. As a small boy I was always fascinated at the sounds the coins made as they were dropped into the jar. They landed with a merry jingle when the jar was almost empty. Then the tones gradually muted to a dull thud as the jar was filled. I used to squat on the floor in front of the jar and admire the copper and silver circles that glinted like a pirate's treasure when the sun poured through the bedroom window. When the jar was filled, Dad would sit at the kitchen table and roll the coins before taking them to the bank. Taking the coins to the bank was always a big production. Stacked neatly in a small cardboard box, the coins were placed between Dad and me on the seat of his old truck. Each and every time, as we drove to the bank, Dad would look at me hopefully. Those coins are going to keep you out of the textile mill, son. You're going to do better than me. This old mill town's not going to hold you back. Also, each and every time, as he slid the box of rolled coins across the counter at the bank toward the cashier, he would grin proudly. These are for my son's college fund. He'll never work at the mill all his life like me. We would always celebrate each deposit by stopping for an ice cream cone. I always got chocolate. Dad always got vanilla. When the clerk at the ice cream parlor handed Dad his change, he would show me the few coins nestled in his palm. When we get home, we'll start filling the jar again. He always let me drop the first coins into the empty jar. As they rattled around with a brief, happy jingle, we grinned at each other. You'll get to college on pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters, he said. But you'll get there. I'll see to that. The years passed, and I finished college and took a job in another town. Once, while visiting my parents, I used the phone in their bedroom, and noticed that the pickle jar was gone. It had served its purpose and had been removed. A lump rose in my throat as I stared at the spot beside the dresser where the jar had always stood. My dad was a man of few words, and never lectured me on the values of determination, perseverance, and faith. The pickle jar had taught me all these virtues far more eloquently than the most flowery of words could have done. When I married, I told my wife Susan about the significant part the lowly pickle jar had played in my life as a boy. In my mind, it defined, more than anything else, how much my dad had loved me. No matter how rough things got at home, Dad continued to doggedly drop his coins into the jar. Even the summer when Dad got laid off from the mill, and Mama had to serve dried beans several times a week, not a single dime was taken from the jar. To the contrary, as Dad looked across the table at me, pouring catsup over my beans to make them more palatable, he became more determined than ever to make away out for me. When you finish college, Son, he told me, his eyes glistening, You'll never have to eat beans again, unless you want to. The first Christmas after our daughter Jessica was born, we spent the holiday with my parents. After dinner, Mom and Dad sat next to each other on the sofa, taking turns cuddling their first grandchild. Jessica began to whimper softly, and Susan took her from Dad's arms. She probably needs to be changed, she said, carrying the baby into my parents' bedroom to diaper her. When Susan came back into the living room, there was a strange mist in her eyes. She handed Jessica back to Dad before taking my hand and leading me into the room. Look, she said softly, her eyes directing me to a spot on the floor beside the dresser. To my amazement, there, as if it had never been removed, stood the old pickle jar, the bottom already covered with coins. I walked over to the pickle jar, dug down into my pocket, and pulled out a fistful of coins. With a gamut of emotions choking me, I dropped the coins into the jar. I looked up and saw that Dad, carrying Jessica, had slipped quietly into the room. Our eyes locked, and I knew he was feeling the same emotions I felt. Neither one of us could speak. Even though your parents may not have had a pickle jar, they made sacrifices for you that were not visible. Cherish the silent love that they shared with you. _ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp. Send FREE Valentine eCards with Yahoo! Greetings!
