[JOYnet] Who is Jesus Christ?

2002-06-11 Thread raphy joseph

Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. (John 14:6)

-
---

Who is Jesus Christ?

All verses taken from the New International Version unless noted otherwise

He is God Almighty

Isaiah 9:6 -- For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the
government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father,
Prince of Peace.

Isaiah 7:14 -- Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin
will be with child and will give
birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel (Prophecy).

Matthew 1:23-- "The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son,
and they will call him
Immanuel"-- which means, "God with us" (Isaiah 7:14 prophecy fulfilled).

  Comment:
Jesus was declared to be the Mighty God and Everlasting Father long before
he was ever conceived in the
womb of Mary. The Everlasting Father became the child and son born in the
manger. Therefore Jesus truly
is Immanuel, God with us. Jesus is Almighty God become a man.
Isaiah 40:3 -- A voice of one calling: "In the desert prepare the way for the
LORD; make straight in the
wilderness a highway for our God (Prophecy).

John 1:23--John replied in the words of Isaiah the prophet, "I am the voice of
one calling in the desert, 'Make straight
the way for the Lord'" (Isaiah 40:3 prophecy fulfilled).

  Comment:
The word LORD, spelled with all captial letters is the name of God,
Jehovah. In prophecy, John the baptist was
to prepare the world to receive God Almighty. In reality, John prepared
the world for Jesus, preaching the message of repentance. John did not make a
mistake, he knew that Jesus was Jehovah God joining the human race.
Isaiah 45:23 -- Before me every knee will bow; by me every tongue will swear
(Prophecy).

Philippians 2:9-11 -- Prophecy fulfilled: Therefore God exalted him to the
highest place and gave him the name that
is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in
heaven and on earth and under
the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory
of God the Father
(Isaiah 45:23 prophecy referring to Jesus).

  Comment:
Isaiah 45:23 quotes God to say that "every knee will bow...every tongue will
swear."
In the previous verses God stated: "...there is no God apart from me, a
righteous God and a Savior;
there is none but me...there is no other." In Philippians, Paul, a
Pharisee, uses this same language to refer to Jesus.
He understood scripture's description of God as a solitary spirit, a lone
sovereign. He also knew that applying
this scripture to Jesus was the same as calling him the only true God.
In essence, Paul was saying that Jesus
was the only God and Savior, become a man.
Isaiah 44:6--Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD
of hosts;
I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.

Isaiah 48:12--Hearken unto me, O Jacob and Israel, my called;
I am he; I am the first, I also am the last.

Revelation 22:13, 16-- I am the Alpha and the Omega, the
First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.

  Comment:
God declared through Isaiah that he was the "first and the last," but Jesus
went further with his declaration
by claiming to be the "Alpha and Omega, first and last, beginning and end."
How many
"firsts and lasts" are there? The only accurate explanation is found in the
fact that Jesus is Almighty God incarnate.
Jesus is the image of the invisible God

Hebrews 1:3 -- The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact
representation of his being, sustaining
all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins,
he sat down at the right hand of
the Majesty in heaven.

2 Corinthians 4:4 -- The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers,
so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is
the image of God.

Colossians 1:15 -- He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over
all creation.

  Comment:
According to John 4:24, "God is spirit." Luke 24:39 tells us "a spirit has
no flesh or bone."
All scripture confirms that God, in the Old Testament, was invisible. "No
man has seen God" (John 1:18);
but Jesus is described as the "exact representation of God, the image of
God, and the image of the invisible God."
The spirit of God that never permanently occupied a body or form before,
took on the form of a man by becoming
the person of Jesus Christ. He was no longer invisible, untouchable,
without form, now he dwelt among us. Both God Almighty and man: born in
Bethlehem as Jesus Christ.
Jesus came to save us from our sin

Matthew 1:21 -- "She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the
name Jesus, because he will
save his people from their sins."

John 1:29 -- The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, "Look,
the Lamb of God,
who takes away the sin of the world!

[JOYnet] He moulded me instead

2002-06-11 Thread Jason Herbert

He moulded me instead - by Sue Henly
==

I just had my 25th wedding anniversary. What an accomplishment. I've only
contemplated divorce about 1 million times over the last 25 years, so you
can imagine my surprise over reaching this milestone.

I have been complaining about this man for about 9,125 daysgive or take
a few days. My life is not how I envisioned it. Every major fight we've ever
had has been over money. How you fight about something you don't have is
beyond me. There was also the big fight over the candle light dinner I
fixed...it seems he wants to see what he eats! He has seldom paid me a
compliment. He rarely buys me presents. He won't learn how to massage my
back. He won't wear shorts or swim trunks. We have only been on one family
vacation in 25 years. He has never disciplined our girls, thus leaving me as
the repeated bad guy! He refuses to go grocery shopping and continues to
sneak and smoke after a bilateral carotid endartectomy. AND he spends way
too much time in his recliner!

This same man wouldn't miss a day of work unless he was half dead and he
hands over his check every payday. He would drive day and night to pick up
either of our girls if they needed him. He loves my mom and Granny almost as
much as I do. If you called him and said, "I'm Sue's friend, we've never met
and my car won't start".he would be out of the door in a flash to
help you out. What an incredible father he has been. I know he loves our
girls as much as I do! He has never complained about how much I've spent on
either childno matter how out of budget I went. Since he knows how I
hate to cookhe hasn't complained (much) about the 20,000 fast food meals
we've consumed. He almost drowned as a childwhich is why he doesn't
swim...and maybe if we didn't make fun of his ultra white legs.he'd
wear shorts. He doesn't drink alcohol and is forbidden to use the words that
are unacceptable to children's ears (and mine). He hates to leave our sleepy
little town.but, encourages me to go where I want to and he always seems
happy to see me as I make it back up the driveway.

I cannot begin to tell you the number of conversations I've had with God
about him.

"Lord, I'm so UNhappy. Life is too short and I know you don't want me to be
UNhappy!" He'd whisper."Make yourself happy with him, Sue" "I can't live
with him another minute, Lord. You're up there watching the whole vast
universe and I don't think you see me down here, miserable!"

"Oh, I see you. I'm here, always and forever. Speak to me."

"I am speaking to you! I want to have some peace in my life, you know,
Lordbut I don't want you mad at me! He's driving me crazy!"

"And he's doing what?"

"First of allhe's breathing my air!"

"THAT'S NOT GOOD ENOUGH, SUE!"

I spent so many years praying for God to change him. God doesn't play fair
sometimes. It seems that all along God was changing me. I had to come face
to face with the fact that 'submissiveness' just isn't my best quality. (Not
even close!) But, I spend a small part of each day working on it. I was so
busy with my girls and my life that I didn't realize how little of myself I
gave to him. I concentrated on the fact that we were polar opposites and he
would never be able to fill that part of me that needed filled. I didn't
realize I wasn't playing fair either because I hadn't reached into myself to
give him the part of me that needed nurturing. The poor man was walking in
the dark. He didn't have a clue. I think we both wondered if love was
enough.

We were at a family reunion and someone asked where he was. I gleefully told
them he was working overtime! Someone said, "Poor Leonard." It's become a
family joke to say "Poor Leonard" because it grates on my last nerve! My own
mother looked at me and said, "Do you notice no one ever says, "Poor Sue"?
It felt like ice water had been dumped on my head. It was SO very true! That
day my eyes started to open.

So, at the ripe old age of 47, I've learned that happiness is a state of
mind. You can be hopelessly in love and decide you don't want to be happy.
He still does things that drive me totally over the edge. But, I am
receiving the nuturing that I have so long desired. I made up my mind that's
he's not responsible for my happiness with him.I am. I can hold grudges
over what he's not done or done badlyor I embrace all the fine things he
does so well. So this morning, and hopefully every morning for the next 50
years, I choose to keep my family whole, to love with all my heart and
please God and myself.

[JOYnet] Am I humble enough?

2002-06-11 Thread Sibi Joseph

My Dear Friends,

Recently, I had to shout at a very senior, retired person who had been in one of the
high offices. I was fully justified for my behaviour as the mistake was not at all in
my part. But, I felt really bad when I pondered the whole event and I was feeling
guilty that I shouted at a man who is of my grandpa’s age. I was thinking as to how
could I have a humble heart at those moments.

Jesus tells us that the one who wants to be the greatest should be the servant of all
(Luke 22:26). Jesus was God and always had the nature of God. But, Jesus willingly
preferred to have the nature of a servant (Phil 2: 6-7). As a Jesus Youth, can we
follow this nature at all the situations of our lives?

I remember one incident that happened some years back. I went to the railway station
to go to Bombay. I did not have a confirmed ticket. I was very reluctant to go with a
waitlisted ticket but my friends told me that I could easily find a place as there
would not be much rush. They also told me that it is just the question of one night
and many of them have traveled to Bombay very comfortably with waitlisted tickets.
When I reached there, I saw a very heavy rush. I went to the general compartment and
could not even get in as the compartment was jam-packed. I did not know what to do. I
then got into a reserved compartment and sat down in a seat. I was a bit scared as it
was for the first time I was travelling without a confirmed ticket. After sometime, a
person who was sitting near to me asked me whether I have a seat or not. I think he
could make out from my face that I didn’t have a seat. When I told him that I did not
have a confirmed seat, he told me to get into the uppe!
r b
erth and sleep. He told me that they had 3-4 berths and they would adjust somehow. I
was very grateful to him and I slept in the upper berth. This man was a Muslim and his
wife, children and his mother were there with him.

When I got up in the morning, I was shocked to see his wife and his small child
sleeping on the floor. I felt really sorry for them. But the man was telling me to
take it easy. I was thinking as to how would I treat this sort of situations. I know I
would never have allowed anybody to occupy my seat. This humble man taught me a great
lesson of humility. I think he had a true Christian nature – a nature of a humble
servant.

I think all of us must endeavour to develop a servant’s heart in our personality. We
are bound to do it as we have been given much and we are supposed to pay it back. The
word of God says that ‘much is required from person to whom much is given’ (Luke
12:48). We may have to take a lot of efforts initially but once it is imprinted in our
personality, it will automatically come out as and when necessary. Let us ask the Holy
Ghost to guide us in our efforts.

Praise God!

Love, Sibi

[JOYnet] Hello Everybody

2002-06-11 Thread Joji Joseph

Hello Everybody,

Hope all of you are fine and doing good.

Few weeks back, I had requested a prayer support for the interview
that I was attending for a placement in Bangalore. Looks like I
have cleared that interview. Right now, the decision is with the
Senior management to confirm on my offer. This must be because I
am working on a different domain than theirs. Please keep this in
your prayers and also pray that i get stronger in my faith and to
accept His Will.

Love and prayers,
Joji
