[JOYnet] Query : Repentance vs Salvation

[JASON :)]

Dear JYs

I have a Query. Recently my friend asked me this "What comes first Repentance
or Salvation ?"

I naturally replied 'Repentance'. Cause in normal course I beleive once u
repent for ur sins then u receive salvation from the Lord. Also according to
Mathew 9 : 13 Jesus says "for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners
to repentance". Hence Repentance brings us Salvation.

However my friend pointed out to me that Jesus said no one could come to him
unless he (or she) is drawn by the Holy SPirit you wouldnt realize your
lost state, and the need for repentance, unless the Spirit of God awakened
that realization in you...This itself is an act of Salvation from God. Hence
Salvation comes first and it brings us into Repentance.

I am still confused. So I ask you

 "What comes first Repentance or Salvation ?"

Hi Joynetters,
Salvation is a free gift from god.. It is free and it is a gift not a reward..
It is the onus of the giver as to how much and to whom this gift is offered.
God offers this free gift to all of us.. It is Like a tray of sweets which has been 
offered to us.. it is upto us to stretch out our hands and take it.
God doesnt take it and shove it down our throats saying..eat this it is good for 
uhe respects our free will and allows us a choice.
When we make the choice to accept Gods salvation.we realise who we r and who christ 
is, and how he died for us because he loved us.. hence repentenance is there in a 
christians point of view. Only when we repent of our sinfulness can we safely say that 
we have accepted gods gift of salvation.
Also the point of repentenance never arises if the person is not a christian..
What is sin as per christianity need not be sin as per that persons religion..? so can 
we say that we will be saved and they will not be saved?
NO..
Paul in his letter to the romans chapters 1 and  2 spks of salvation both of jews and 
non -jews..He says that non-jews will be judged as per their conscience.
So repentenance is a prime criteria for us christians..
For those who r not christians salvation is based on their submittig to gods spirit 
speaking the truth to them in their hearts..
Now u will ask what is the advantage then of being christian.. well the advantage is 
very simple yet unobvious. 
As a Christian we are able to experience gods salvation right now  in our present life 
as well as later in heaven.
Look into ur lives u will see a special intervention of God ,a special outpouring of 
his love which others rarely experience..
Expecting some more comments on this critical topic from you all.

Praise be on Jesus and Mary

Well mates, i just got this small poem in an email news letter i subscribed to and 
like to share with you.  Infact I am today distressed as my application for new 
employment visa got rejected 2 days back and today the old one they cancelled and 
there is a ban of 6 months on my visa . I was sad and desperate to get new visa and 
once i came to know that its got rejected my tensions and worries gone as I  know its 
HIS will happening on me now. 

Yeah I would like to thank all JY friends who supported me  with kind words and prayed 
for me when i was very much in trouble. Thanks a lot mates!!! I am going to India on 
Aug 25. Pplease keep me in your prayers.

[JOYnet] More sharings on the WYD pilgrimage tour-2

Dear friends,

This is continuation of the sharing on the experiences of the last group of
Jesus Youth which had gone to World Youth Day (WYD) Toronto, Taize, Lourdes,
Assisi and Rome from India.

When we were preparing to participate in the World Youth Day, we used to pray
earnestly for obtaining/renewing our passport in time, for the visa, for our
families and businesses/ jobs, our health, journey, JY international
gathering, Rex Band programmes in UAE, USA, Toronto, WYD, etc. Before we
started our journey, we had received a message to offer all struggles/ delay
regarding our travel to the Lord for the salvation of sinners.  This was a
constant motivation to us throughout our journey and it added meaning to the
delays/ difficulties faced in the journey. After overcoming it, we would
remember the number of souls which would have been saved due to our sacrifice,
and how thankful they will be about it.  It was a joy to think the kind of
happiness in heaven over one sinner that would repent and turn to Jesus.  He
has said that even though there are a 100 sheep and one is lost, the shepherd
would turn back to find it and as he finds it he will rejoice over it, more
than the 99 who were not lost.

 As we started our journey to Pondichery from Ernakulam, our bus staff
remembered that it was already the last day of the month and they had not yet
paid the tax and hence it would be impossible to continue the journey and
cross the Kerala border.  There was an uncertainty of about 1 and a half hour
and the staff tried their best to do something about it.  They offered to take
us by 3 taxis, but we did not find it the best solution.  At the same time,
being a holiday, it was not possible to arrange anything and we had to reach
Pondichery for the French visa by 7.30am so that we could get the visa stamped
and return by eveining. The JYs had come from different parts of Kerala for
going to Pondichery and 3 of our members were to start their journey to
Toronto in 3 days time.

All of us seemed to be upset when Mr.George remembered that there was a
message to offer travel delays for the salvation of sinners.  On hearing this,
our faces lighted up and we found meaning for the trouble and some went back
to the bus and started praying the rosary for the salvation of sinners, while
others waited at the telephone booth. The latter contacted Ceetly at Trichur
and in 10 minutes, another bus was waiting for us at Trichur to take us to our
destination. Another bus was also getting ready by Jose Olickal. "Yes, God is
good, all the time" as I am hearing it through the audio at this moment.

At the French Consulate, as we waited for our interview, we prayed the rosary
outside the door which was a touching experience.  Throughout our pilgrimage,
the rosary was a constant method of prayer.  Mr.Tojo, who was running a home
for the street children at Pondichery had made all arrangements for us. We had
visited the home and praised God for how much a Jesus Youth like him could do
for the unwanted and condemned.

I will be posting more sharing in joynet in the following days.  I have not
included sharing of others in this mail, but only mentioned about George and

[JOYnet] Feast of the Day

FEAST OF THE DAY  -AUGUST 22

The feast of the Queenship of Mary was established in
1954 by Pope Pius XII. The original date for this
feast was chosen as May 31st, but was later moved to
the octave day of the feast of the Assumption, 
August 22nd. This memorial celebrates the same event
that is highlighted by the fifth glorious mystery or
the Rosary.

Throughout the New Testament, Mary's role in heaven is
mentioned. Mary is alluded to as Queen in the book of
Revelations, and throughout the Bible. It is because
of Jesus close relationship with his mother that she
shares in his kingship.

The Church and the faithful for have also referred to
Mary as queen since the fourth century. Various songs,
litanies, and prayers refer to Mary as queen. The
Church has affirmed the title of Mary in modern 
times through documents including Lumen Gentium
(..."and exalted by the Lord as Queen over all things,
that she might be the more fully conformed to her Son"
Lumen Gentium 59) and the papal encyclical Ad Coeli
Reginam.

The title Queen is used to indicate the final state of
the Virgin, seated beside her Son, the King of glory.
