[JOYnet] Prayer Request

2003-03-11 Thread antu varghese
Hi Friends in Jesus,

SHALOM !!!

I joined this mail group only 2 days back and thank God for giving me an
access to this new world of friendship in Jesus.

I am married and settled down in Bangalore for the past 8 years. My daughter
Anjana is in the first standard and Anu (my wife) is taking care of the
house.

I am serving for an IT company as a Senior Executive -Facilities Management.
My management is going for outsourcing of FM services and is forcing people
on roll to quit. I am given a deadline of March 31st as my last date. So far
no offer in hand. One of the Fortune 500 companies interviewed and selected
me. But they are yet to release the offer letter. Today my HR director wants
me to put in my papers. I know not what to do now. If anyone can help me
find a job in Bangalore or in Ernakulam District, Kerala, please get back to
me.

With love in Jesus,

Shalom !!!

[JOYnet] My comments on the Usage of Scripture

2003-03-11 Thread Ravi Vaz
Hi Joynetters,

I am writing this mail as a clarification to some of you who misunderstood my previous
comments on the mail sent by james..

Firstly I have never said dont quote from scripture.. I know the value of scripture

What i am saying is dont misquote and dont overquote from scripture..

Like wilson pointed out.. be wise in your usage of scripture..

Salt adds to the taste of the food, but taht doesnt mean we put a kilo of salt while
cooking..

same way a few relevant scripture texts enrich the sharing.. but if our sharing is 95%
scripture quotes and 5% personal sharing.. then it is not very effective..

When the lord speaks to us.. he doesnt bombard us with scripture quotes.. instead he
will spk to us thru one or two quotes from scripture, many times he doesnt use
scripture at all.. he just speaks plain and simple words of wisdom into our hearts..

are we then going to say to him.. " excuse me, please quote scripture only, i dont
want to listen to anything else." That is what the protestants and teh fundamentalists
do.

Let us realise that the Bible is not a magic book.. That u open it and quote something
from it .. and people will be touched...

no..

The power in the words of the bible comes from the holy spirit who inspires and guides
us to how and what to quote from scripture..

so before we quote any scripture we have to pray for understanding from the Holy
Spirit..

Again I urge you all to realise that when quantity increases, quality decreases.

If u think u r increasing the face value of ur sharing by throwing scriptures around..

u r mistaken... that is what the fundamentalists do.. that is what the pharisees did
in jesus's times..

for all u know people may not even read them.. because they are so many...

Love and Prayers

Ravi

[JOYnet] Pope Calls Young People

2003-03-11 Thread jose joseph
Pope Calls Young People to Promote Peace and Justice
In His Message for 18th World Youth Day

VATICAN CITY, MARCH 11, 2003 (Zenit.org).- John Paul
II is calling on youth to bear witness to the world
that only Christ can give true peace of heart to men
and women, families and nations.

This conviction is reflected in the Pope's message,
published today, for the 18th World Youth Day, which
will be celebrated at the diocesan level worldwide on
Palm Sunday, April 13.

The theme for this year's World Youth Day, "Behold,
Your Mother!" (John 19:27), is linked to the current
Year of the Rosary.

"Jesus, before he died, gave the Apostle John the most
precious gift he had: his Mother, Mary, ... [who] at
the foot of the cross, in John, received the whole of
humanity in her heart," the Pope says in his message.

"You, dear young people, are more or less that same
age as John, and he himself wanted to be with Jesus.
Today it is to you that Christ asks expressly to
receive Mary 'in your home,' that you welcome her ...
[to] learn from her ... [the] interior disposition to
listen and the attitude of humility and generosity,"
the Pope says.

Stating that Christianity is not a personal opinion
nor does it consist in vain words, the Holy Father
adds, "Mary is given to us to help us have a more
authentic, more personal relation with Jesus."

"Christianity is Christ! It is a Person, it is the
Living One! To encounter Jesus, to love him, and to
make him loved -- this is the Christian vocation,"
John Paul II stresses.

The "solitude, failures and disappointments in
personal life, difficulties in becoming part of the
adult and professional world, separations and deaths
in families, the violence of wars and the death of
innocent people" are situations of suffering faced by
young people today, the Pope continues.

"Know, however, that in difficult moments, which are
not lacking in anyone's life, you are not alone" like
John at the foot of the cross, the Holy Father says.
"Jesus gives you also to his Mother so that she will
comfort you with her tenderness."

In this context, John Paul II invites youths to give
themselves to Mary with full confidence. In this way,
they will shine "with the beauty of Christ. Open to
the breath of the Spirit, you will be intrepid
apostles (...), you will learn to put (Christ) in the
first place in your life, to direct your thoughts and
actions to him."

In the Year of the Rosary, John Paul II invites young
people to pray it, because it is a way of "learning to
contemplate Jesus with the eyes of his Mother, to love
Jesus with the heart of his Mother."

"Don't be ashamed to recite the rosary," the Pope
says, encouraging young people to pray it "on the way
to school, university or work, on the street or on
public transportation; recite it among yourselves, in
groups, movements and associations, and don't hesitate
to suggest praying it at home" with the family,
because it "revives and consolidates the ties" among
its members.

"This prayer will help you to be strong in faith,
constant in charity, joyful and persevering in hope,"
he says.

John Paul II also exhorts young people to flee from
egoism and sloth. "Now more than ever, it is urgent
that you be the morning watchmen."

"Mankind has a decisive need for the witness of
courageous and free young people who dare to go
countercurrent and proclaim strongly and
enthusiastically their faith in God, Lord and Savior,"
he says.

The Pope announced the theme of the 19th World Youth
Day (2004), "We Want to See Jesus" (John 12:21), and
that of Cologne, Germany, in 2005, "We Have Come to
Adore Him" (Matthew 2:2).

[JOYnet] LEAVE IT FOR GOD

2003-03-11 Thread Jude Asogwa
Dear Joynetters,
Peace in Jesus name, Amen.
Are there not circumstances in our lives that make us
to wonder what to do. Several times we put in our best
in our families, in our working places and in other
areas of our lives to make things better, jet to no
avail. In some other occasions we have relied on men
to help us out but instead things become worst.
Doctors may have done their best to help us to cover
soundness of health, lawyers may have tried in vain to
help us win one case or the other and ministers of God
may have also fasted and pray that things may get
better, but it seems as though nothing has been done.
Whatever the case may be, leave it for God.
The word of the Lord tells us in Luke 1:37 that with
God all things are possible.
No matter how things are around you dont lose hope in
God, dont commit suicide or renouce your faith for
with God all things are possible.

Have you prayed about the issue? Do you believe that
God answers prayers? Do you have faith that He may
answer you? Then leave it for God. Give God time to
take care of the issue for he is abundantly able to
deliever and to save those who trust in Him.

LEAVE IT FOR GOD.

[JOYnet] TODAY`S SAINT........ST.EULOGIUS

2003-03-11 Thread rose maria
11TH MARCH 2003

ST.EULOGIUS

MARTYAR( c--818--859)

LIFE:

St.Eulogius was the son of a noblem senatorial family of Cordoba
in southern Spain..The city was the seat of one of most brilliant courts
of Europe under the Mohammedan Caliphs.St.Eulogius recieved an excellant
education;  then  visited   the  christian  kingdom of  Nvarre in  northern  Spain;
he was ordained to the priesthood and became director of the Cordoba
seminary. An avid reader and student, he was renowned alike for his holy
life, his great eloquence and for his profound humility.

In 850`s there began a period of persecution during which numerous Martyrs
shed their blood for faith.St.Eulogius did much, by spoken and written
word, to encourage the persecuted and imprisoned chriatians. His ""Memorial of
the saints "" which relates the trials of the Martyrs , had a profound
and widespread effect upon the faithful and kept many from apostating...

When the Archbishop of Toledo died in 858, St Eulogius was chosen as
his succesor, but he was arrested and beheaded shortly before his
consecration for daring to defend a Saracen maiden, St.Leocritia, who had
abandoned Islam for catholic faith. In his graet zeal, the holy priest even
endeavoured to convert his Arab judge by pointing out to him the errors
of Mohammade`s doctrine.

St.Eulogius was put to death on March 11 , 859.

PATRONAGE:

carpenters and coppersmiths...

REFLECTION:

Ah! if u could but concieve the reward which waits for those who
perevere in the faith to the end, you would renounce your temporal
dignity in exchange for it*( St.Eulogius of Cordoba)

A PRAYER:

You put urself at risk, saint Eulogius, to protect a child
of the faith, and you both met death on behalf of the truth.Teach me
dear saint, what things are more important than life and death. Inspire me
with your love of truth, with ur spirit of sacrifice, with ur love of
God and God`s children. Most of all encourage me in my encounterswith
people who r newly learning about the love of God , that my actions
and words may wellcome by all people into the kingdom of God and may
model God`s unconditional love for all creation.Through Jesus Christ our
Lord .Amen

[JOYnet] My junk room

2003-03-11 Thread Mary Paul
My junk room

A third knock sounded on the old worn door. I stumbled through the dark,
tripping over things and making a lot of noise. "Hold on I am coming.
Just wait a second" I shouted. I felt along the cold wall and finally
found the door handle. Grasping it I flung open the door and found a man
standing there. My eyes adjusted to the light from outside and I squinted
to look him in the face. "Cleaning service..." he spoke "Ah, yes, yes,
good." I shook his hand.

He looked around and saw the area that the light from outside revealed.
He didn't smile or frown but simply looked at me and waited for
instructions. "I've tried everything, sir, everything I could think of
but nothing worked. You are my last hope. I can't even get the lights to
come on." I mumbled "ah, well then that's where we start. The lights..."

He walked over to the wall, placed his hand on it, and walked twenty
paces. "Your lucky you called me, son. I am the only one who knows where
the light is." he said as he flicked them on. The room was suddenly
ablaze with light and now with everything in full view I realize just how
messy this place was. I kicked a piece of junk and sighed.

"Well...?" I asked him, expecting him to start working.
"What else?" he asked.
"Well the lights are on but I want all this junk out of here"

He nodded and once again went to work. He started clearing away the pile
of dusty junk that littered the floor. He threw out the things that had
seemed important at one time but not anymore. He trashed all the things I
knew needed to be thrown out but never ended up doing it. He cleaned up
all the things that had seemed to have built up through the years. Then
he came to me again. "What about the locked metal box along the wall?"

"What metal box?"

He led me to a large metal box locked many times. I instantly gave him
permission to open the locks which he strangely had the keys for. The
locks clicked and the door squeaked as he opened it. I saw what it
contained and suddenly wanted it shut again.

"What is this?" he asked.
"Well, technically that's junk but I like it and I think I want to keep
it. I really like it."
"But it is junk and if you want this place truly clean its gotta be
thrown out"
"But I want to keep it"

He looked at me as if in waiting for a response.
"Fine" I sighed, "Take it"

He smiled and it was gone in a few seconds, box and all. With that he
moved on and was finished with the whole building in a few hours. The
metal shined and the floors glistened. The whole place looked great. When
he was finished he once again came to me.

"Well I am done with that. is that all?"
"Uh...I guess. was there something else you wanted to do?"
"If you want I can do a few more extra things."
"Well ok. But don't take too long", I said.

Instantly he was once again at work. He opened a small office and stuck a
tape in the sound systems tape deck. Soft, flighty music floated through
the air. He came in and out a few times carrying plants and other
decorative items. He opened the windows and let the musty air filter out.
He went to the back and opened long hidden cages and suddenly sparrows
and butterflies were flying around the ceiling. The whole atmosphere was
different. He came to me once again.

"Now that makes it much better."
"Yes, yes, I love it." I laughed
"One more thing..."
"Yes?"
"I was wondering if I could stay here. that way I could keep it clean and
you wouldn't have to worry about it" "Stay here?" I said amazed, "Uh I
don't think that is possible I like my privacy and I think I can keep it
clean by myself from now on"

"You said yourself that I was your last hope and if I remember correctly
you couldn't even find the lights and without me all that junk will
slowly find its way back in here. I thought for a moment and then gave in
and said, "Fine you can stay here and keep it clean."

He smiled and nodded in thanks. He went into the office and started
setting up a bed. I watched him for a moment in awe. "Sir," I said, "I
never got your name..."

He turned and stared at me. A smile once again formed across his face and
he seemed to choose his words carefully. "I am known by many names and
have cleaned many places, and I will show you where you can find them..."
he laughed, laying his hand on my shoulder.

With a start I suddenly awoke. I must have fallen asleep. my Bible, long
unread, sat in my lap. I looked down and found the pages had flipped to
Revelations. In amazement I read 3:20. Then deep in a dark junk filled
room in my heart I heard someone knocking on its door.

I knew who that man in my dream was. He was Jesus and he was longing to
come in and clean my junk filled room. So right there in the middle of
the room I bowed my head and asked Him to be my cleaner. My Soul Cleaner
