[JOYnet] Mary's Dream

2003-03-27 Thread Mary Paul
 MARY'S DREAM

I had a dream, Joseph. I don't understand it, not really, but I think it
was about a birthday celebration for our son. I think that was what it
was all about. The people had been preparing for it for about six weeks.
They had decorated the house and bought new clothes. They'd gone shopping
many times and bought elaborate gifts.

It was peculiar, though, because the presents weren't for our son. They
wrapped them in beautiful paper and tied them with lovely bows and
stacked them under a tree. Yes, a tree, Joseph, right in their house.
They'd decorated the tree also. The branches were full of glowing balls
and sparkling ornaments. There was a figure on the top of the tree. It
looked like an angel might look. Oh, it was beautiful.

Everyone was laughing and happy. They were all excited about the gifts.
They gave the gifts to each other, Joseph, not to our son. I don't think
they even knew him. They never mentioned his name. Doesn't it seem odd
for people to go to all that trouble to celebrate someone's birthday if
they don't know him? I had the strangest feeling that if our son had gone
to this celebration he would have been intruding.

Everything was so beautiful, Joseph, and everyone so full of cheer, but
it made me want to cry. How sad for Jesus - not to be wanted at his own
birthday celebration. I'm glad it was only a dream. How terrible, Joseph,
if it had been real!!!

[JOYnet] The man who held me in his arms

2003-03-23 Thread Mary Paul
Sometimes we just need a reminder of who our Lord is and how He cares for
each of us.Here is a nice story:

Little Jill (not her real name) was raised by parents who were atheists.
When Jill was 3 years old her father killed her mother in a drunken rage and
turned the gun upon himself. This was all done in the presence of Jill.

Jill was shifted through the foster care system and wound up with a church
going family. The first Sunday that Jill was in her nursery class the
teacher held up a picture of the Savior and asked the
three, four and five year olds if they knew who was in the picture. Little
Jill raised her hand and the Sunday school teacher called on her.

That's Jesus stated Little Jill. The Sunday School teacher knew that this
was Jill's first time in church and knew that Jill's dead parents had been
atheists. So she was surprised and questioned Jill:

How do you know that my dear? asked the kind teacher.

Because he was the man that held me in His arms the night my Daddy killed
my Mommy, answered sweet little Jill.

[JOYnet] The Cross

2003-03-22 Thread Mary Paul
please read this story patiently... THE CROSS Author Unknown

While taking a photography class at the University of Miami in 1967 I
became acquainted with another student named Charles who also was
training as a high-diver for the 1968 Summer Olympics. Charles was very
patient with me when I would speak to him for hours about Jesus Christ
and how He had saved me. Charles was not raised in Christian home and all
that I had to tell him fascinated him. He even began to ask questions
about forgiveness of sin. Finally the day came and I asked Charles if he
realized his own need of a Redeemer and if he was ready to trust Jesus
Christ as his Savior. Almost immediately I saw his countenance change and
his reply was a strong No. In the days that followed he was quiet and I
felt that he was avoiding me. Then one day I got a phone call and it was
Charles. He wanted to know where to look in the New Testament for some
verses that I had given him about salvation. I gave him several passages
and asked if I could meet with him. He declined my offer and thanked me
for the scriptures. I could tell that he was greatly troubled, but I did
not know where he was or how to help him. Since Charles was training for
the Olympic games he had special privileges at the University pool and at
11pm that evening he went to the pool to practice a few dives. It was a
clear night in October with a bright full moon, which easily lit the pool
area through a glass dome. Illuminated only by the light of the full moon
shining through the glass dome Charles climbed to the highest dive
platform. At the very moment he stood on top of the dive platform the
Spirit of God began to speak to him. All the scripture he had read, all
of the times that I had witnessed to him about Christ flooded his mind.
As Charles stood backwards on the edge of the dive platform preparing for
his first dive he stretched out his arms to gain his balance and noticed
that his shadow in the bright moonlight was in the shape of a cross. He
could bear the burden of his sin no longer. His heart broke and he sat
down on the platform and asked God to forgive him and to save him.
Charles trusted Jesus Christ on the top of a dive platform thirty feet
above the pool. Suddenly, the lights in the pool area came on as the
night watchman came in to check the pool area. Charles looked down from
the dive platform and saw an empty pool, which had been drained for
repairs. He had almost plummeted to his death, but the Cross had saved
him. *For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness;
but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

[JOYnet] Remember the Duck

2003-03-21 Thread Mary Paul
Remember The Duck
=

Author Unknown

There was a little boy visiting his grandparents on their farm. And he
was given a slingshot to play without in the woods. he practiced in the
woods, but he could never hit the target. And getting a little
discouraged; he headed back to dinner. As he was walking back he saw
Grandma's pet duck. Just out of impulse, he let fly, hit the duck square
in the head, and killed it. He was shocked and grieved. In a panic, he
hid the dead duck in the woodpile, only to see his sister watching. Sally
had seen it all, but she said nothing.

After lunch that day Grandma said, Sally, let's wash the dishes. But
Sally said, Grandma, Johnny told me he wanted to help in the kitchen
today, didn't you Johnny? And then she whispered to him, Remember, the
duck? So Johnny did the dishes. Later Grandpa asked if the children
wanted to go fishing, and Grandma said, I'm sorry but I need Sally to
help make supper. But Sally smiled and said, Well, that's all right
because Johnny told me he wanted to help. And she whispered again,
Remember, the duck? So Sally went fishing and Johnny stayed. After
several days of Johnny doing both his chores and Sally's, he finally
couldn't stand it any longer. He came to Grandma and confessed that he
killed the duck. She knelt down, gave him a hug, and said, Sweetheart, I
know. You see, I was standing at the window and I saw the whole thing.
But because I love you, I forgave you. But I was just wondering how long
would you let Sally make a slave of you.

I don't know what's in your past. I don't know what one sin the enemy
keeps throwing up in your face. But whatever it is, I want you to know
something. Jesus Christ was standing at the window. And He saw the whole
thing. But because He loves you, He has forgiven you. Perhaps He's
wondering how long you'll let the enemy make a slave out of you. The
great thing about God is that He not only forgives, but He forgets!!!

[JOYnet] The Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi

2003-03-20 Thread Mary Paul
The Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
...where there is injury, pardon;
...where there is doubt, faith;
...where there is despair, hope;
...where there is darkness, light;
...where there is sadness, joy;

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
...to be consoled as to console;
...to be understood as to understand;
...to be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive;
...it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
...and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

[JOYnet] The Diwali Rocket

2003-03-16 Thread Mary Paul
My dear friends,
I would like to share a weird experience wherein God protected my friends
and me. I was in between my 7th semester Engineering exams. It was the day
of Diwali. The next day we had one University exam.My daily routine is to
get up by 6:00 in the morn and then go to the hostel Prayer room. Pray
for some time, go for breakfast and then back to room and start studying
at sharp 8:00 .I always study at my table next to the window. In the
mornings,I normally dont go to sit in the garden to study. Our hostel has
large area and next to the hostel compound walls there were big trees
with thick branches and foliage. My room was in third floor facing the
road. From the hostel building to the compound wall there is quite a lot
of area .The road was also average wide and on the roadside were a few
shops and one or two small houses. That day I got up as usual. But when I
was leaving for prayercell I had a feeling to carry all my study books
along with the Bible to the prayercell. As usual I went to prayercell
,then for breakfast to mess ,then I had a feeling to go to prayercell
again. I went and prayed there for sometime and instead of going to
room for studies I went outside to the garden to study.I never do go out
to study. But that day I did.I had also the books with me which I had
taken to the Prayer room along with the bible.By morning sharp 8:00am
,while i was studying in the garden,I heard a loud sound and something
shattering to pieces.I thought again one of these girls would have
dropped the plates or cups .Still I was wondering how it could be so
loud.Anyway i concentrated in my studies. After an hour or so i went
slowly climbing back the stairs. One of my friends shouted ,Didnt u
hear??' I asked what. She just kept quiet. When I came up there was a
small gathering near my room and everyone was staring inside.I couldnt
believe what Isaw.My table was fully covered with glass pieces , the
window had a huge hole in it and was blackish in colour. Some of the
glass in the window was melted and in a deformed shape. There was smoke in
the room.My books, shelves were all covered with glass pieces. Also I saw
remnants of a Rocket (the firecracker variety which goes to the sky to a
large height and bursts) lying in my room.It was stuck to the bottom of
the door. The sides of the door was burnt. What happened was that being
Diwali ,small kids who were living in the houses next to the road were
bursting crackers and rockets and one rocket instead of going up ,shot
across the road and the thick trees near the compound walls came within
the hostel compounds aimed to the third floor Room no:217 window where I
sit and study -:).It came ,hit on the window ,exploded and swished the
floor and got stuck under the closed door of our room. And it was sharp
8:00 that happened, the shattering sound which i heard, while i was
studying in the garden.Normally at this time I will be seated with my
books next to the window.Do u know what happened to my room mates. There
are four per room. Two of my roommates had gone outside. The third friend
had fallen asleep, while studying in her bed. When she heard this
shattering sound ,she was in such a deep sleep and got up thinking it was
a part of a bad dream.By Gods grace no glass pieces had fallen on
her.God saved all of us.If the rocket had landed in one of our beds and
mosquito nets it would have gone in flames.Had I been there ,rather than
dying of burns, I would have died of a cardiac arrest. Also if my room
mate had been awake she also would have got the same. I just thank God
for making me take my books and go to the garden to study instead of
sitting next to the window and also for protecting my roommates.I never
had the habit of going out and he made do that the same day. There was
lots of cleaning work to be done in our room and it grabbed our study
time. But still we were able to do the University exams the next day. It
was a weird incident and God protected us.

[JOYnet] The story behind the picture Praying Hands

2003-03-12 Thread Mary Paul
Hi friends!I am sure many of us would have noticed the picture Praying
Hands in any Christian Magazine or prayer books or in any sites.
.The picture of two hands placed together in a Prayerful attitude. In
fact, there is a touching story behind this painting.

The Story Behind the Picture of
the Praying Hands

Back in the fifteenth century, in a tiny village near Nuremberg, lived a
family with eighteen children. Eighteen! In order merely to keep food
on the table for this mob, the father and head of the house hold, a
goldsmith by profession, worked almost eighteen hours a day at his trade
and any other paying chore he could find in the neighborhood.

Despite their seemingly hopeless condition, two among the 18 children
named -Albert and Albrecht had a dream. They both wanted to pursue
their talent for art, but they knew full well that their father would
never be financially able to send either of them to Nuremberg to study at
the Academy.

After many long discussions at night in their crowded bed, the two boys
finally worked out a pact. They would toss a coin. The loser would go
down into the nearby mines and, with his earnings, support his brother
while he attended the academy. Then, when that brother who won the toss
completed his studies, in four years, he would support the other brother
at the academy, either with sales of his artwork or, if necessary, also
by laboring in the mines.

They tossed a coin on a Sunday morning after church. Albrecht Durer won
the toss and went off to Nuremberg.

Albert went down into the dangerous mines and, for the next four years,
financed his brother, whose work at the academy was almost an immediate
sensation. Albrecht's etchings, his woodcuts, and his oils were far
better than those of most of his professors, and by the time he
graduated, he was beginning to earn considerable fees for his
commissioned works.

When the young artist returned to his village, the Durer family held a
festive dinner on their lawn to celebrate Albrecht's triumphant
homecoming. After a long and memorable meal, punctuated with music and
laughter, Albrecht rose from his honored position at the head of the
table to drink a toast to his beloved brother for the years of sacrifice
that had enabled Albrecht to fulfill his ambition. His closing words
were, And now, Albert, blessed brother of mine, now it is your turn.
Now you can go to Nuremberg to pursue your dream, and I will take care of
you.

All heads turned in eager expectation to the far end of the table where
Albert sat, tears streaming down his pale face, shaking his lowered head
from side to side while he sobbed and repeated, over and over, No ...no
...no ...no.

Finally, Albert rose and wiped the tears from his cheeks. He glanced
down the long table at the faces he loved, and then, holding his hands
close to his right cheek, he said softly, No, brother. I cannot go to
Nuremberg. It is too late for me. Look ... look what four years in the
mines have done to my hands! The bones in every finger have been smashed
at least once, and lately I have been suffering from arthritis so badly
in my right hand that I cannot even hold a glass to return your toast,
much less make delicate lines on parchment or canvas with a pen or a
brush. No, brother ... for me it is too late.

More than 450 years have passed. By now, Albrecht Durer's hundreds of
masterful portraits, pen and silver-point sketches, watercolors,
charcoals, woodcuts, and copper engravings hang in every great museum in
the world, but the odds are great that you, like most people, are
familiar with only one of Albrecht Durer's works. More than merely being
familiar with it, you very well may have a reproduction hanging in your
home or office.

One day, to pay homage to Albert for all that he had sacrificed, Albrecht
Durer painstakingly drew his brother's abused hands with palms together
and thin fingers stretched skyward. He called his powerful drawing
simply Hands, but the entire world almost immediately opened their
hearts to his great masterpiece and renamed
his tribute of love The Praying Hands.

The next time you see a copy of that touching creation, take a second
look. Let it be your reminder, if you still need one, that no one no
one ever makes it alone!

[JOYnet] My junk room

2003-03-11 Thread Mary Paul
My junk room

A third knock sounded on the old worn door. I stumbled through the dark,
tripping over things and making a lot of noise. Hold on I am coming.
Just wait a second I shouted. I felt along the cold wall and finally
found the door handle. Grasping it I flung open the door and found a man
standing there. My eyes adjusted to the light from outside and I squinted
to look him in the face. Cleaning service... he spoke Ah, yes, yes,
good. I shook his hand.

He looked around and saw the area that the light from outside revealed.
He didn't smile or frown but simply looked at me and waited for
instructions. I've tried everything, sir, everything I could think of
but nothing worked. You are my last hope. I can't even get the lights to
come on. I mumbled ah, well then that's where we start. The lights...

He walked over to the wall, placed his hand on it, and walked twenty
paces. Your lucky you called me, son. I am the only one who knows where
the light is. he said as he flicked them on. The room was suddenly
ablaze with light and now with everything in full view I realize just how
messy this place was. I kicked a piece of junk and sighed.

Well...? I asked him, expecting him to start working.
What else? he asked.
Well the lights are on but I want all this junk out of here

He nodded and once again went to work. He started clearing away the pile
of dusty junk that littered the floor. He threw out the things that had
seemed important at one time but not anymore. He trashed all the things I
knew needed to be thrown out but never ended up doing it. He cleaned up
all the things that had seemed to have built up through the years. Then
he came to me again. What about the locked metal box along the wall?

What metal box?

He led me to a large metal box locked many times. I instantly gave him
permission to open the locks which he strangely had the keys for. The
locks clicked and the door squeaked as he opened it. I saw what it
contained and suddenly wanted it shut again.

What is this? he asked.
Well, technically that's junk but I like it and I think I want to keep
it. I really like it.
But it is junk and if you want this place truly clean its gotta be
thrown out
But I want to keep it

He looked at me as if in waiting for a response.
Fine I sighed, Take it

He smiled and it was gone in a few seconds, box and all. With that he
moved on and was finished with the whole building in a few hours. The
metal shined and the floors glistened. The whole place looked great. When
he was finished he once again came to me.

Well I am done with that. is that all?
Uh...I guess. was there something else you wanted to do?
If you want I can do a few more extra things.
Well ok. But don't take too long, I said.

Instantly he was once again at work. He opened a small office and stuck a
tape in the sound systems tape deck. Soft, flighty music floated through
the air. He came in and out a few times carrying plants and other
decorative items. He opened the windows and let the musty air filter out.
He went to the back and opened long hidden cages and suddenly sparrows
and butterflies were flying around the ceiling. The whole atmosphere was
different. He came to me once again.

Now that makes it much better.
Yes, yes, I love it. I laughed
One more thing...
Yes?
I was wondering if I could stay here. that way I could keep it clean and
you wouldn't have to worry about it Stay here? I said amazed, Uh I
don't think that is possible I like my privacy and I think I can keep it
clean by myself from now on

You said yourself that I was your last hope and if I remember correctly
you couldn't even find the lights and without me all that junk will
slowly find its way back in here. I thought for a moment and then gave in
and said, Fine you can stay here and keep it clean.

He smiled and nodded in thanks. He went into the office and started
setting up a bed. I watched him for a moment in awe. Sir, I said, I
never got your name...

He turned and stared at me. A smile once again formed across his face and
he seemed to choose his words carefully. I am known by many names and
have cleaned many places, and I will show you where you can find them...
he laughed, laying his hand on my shoulder.

With a start I suddenly awoke. I must have fallen asleep. my Bible, long
unread, sat in my lap. I looked down and found the pages had flipped to
Revelations. In amazement I read 3:20. Then deep in a dark junk filled
room in my heart I heard someone knocking on its door.

I knew who that man in my dream was. He was Jesus and he was longing to
come in and clean my junk filled room. So right there in the middle of
the room I bowed my head and asked Him to be my cleaner. My Soul Cleaner

It's a cold day in December...New York City. A little boy about
10-years-old was standing before a shoe store on Broadway, barefooted,
peering through the window, and shivering with cold. A lady approached
the boy and said, My little fellow, why are you looking so earnestly in
that window?

I was asking God to give me a pair of shoes, was the boys reply.

The lady took him by the hand and went into the store, and asked the
clerk to get a half dozen pairs of socks for the boy. She then asked if
he could give her a basin of water and a towel. He quickly brought them
to her. She took the little fellow to the back part of the store and,
removing her gloves, knelt down, washed his little feet, and dried them
with a towel.

By this time the clerk had returned with the socks. Placing a pair upon
the boy's feet, she then purchased him a pair of shoes, and tying up the
remaining pairs of socks, gave them to him.

She patted him on the head and said, No doubt, my little fellow, you
feel more comfortable now?

As she turned to go, the astonished lad caught her by the hand, and
looking up in her face, with tears in his eyes, answered the question
with these words: Are you God's wife?

[JOYnet] The ant and the contactlens

2003-03-07 Thread Mary Paul
A true story by Josh and Karen Zarandona
Submitted by: Aaron Cardenas 9 September 2000. THE ANT AND THE
CONTACT LENS Brenda was a young woman who was invited to go rock
climbing. Although she was scared to death, she went with her group to a
tremendous granite cliff. In spite of her fear, she put on the gear, took
a hold on the rope, and started up the face of that rock. Well, she got
to a ledge where she could take a breather. As she was hanging on there,
the safety rope snapped against Brenda's eye and knocked out her contact
lens. Here she is on a rock ledge, with hundreds of feet below her and
hundreds of feet above her. Of course, she looked and looked and looked,
hoping it had landed on the ledge, but it just wasn't there. So here she
was, far from home, her sight now blurry. She was desperate and began to
get upset, so she prayed to the Lord to help her to find it. When she got
to the top, a friend examined her eye and her clothing for the lens, but
there was no contact lens to be found. She sat down, despondent, with the
rest of the party, waiting for the rest of them to make it up the face of
the cliff. She looked out across range after range of mountains, thinking
of that Bible verse that says, The eyes of the Lord run to and fro
throughout the whole earth. She thought, Lord, You can see all these
mountains. You know every stone and leaf, and You know exactly where my
contact lens is. Please help me. Finally, they walked down the trail to
the bottom. At the bottom there was a new party climbers just starting up
the face of the cliff. One of them shouted out, Hey, you guys! Anybody
lose a contact lens? Well, that would be startling enough, but you know
why the climber saw it? An ant was moving slowly cross the face of the
rock, carrying it! Brenda told me that her father is a cartoonist. When
she told him the incredible story of the ant, the prayer, and the contact
lens, he drew a picture of an ant lugging that contact lens with the
words, Lord, I don't know why You want me to carry this thing. I can't
eat it, and it's awfully heavy. But if this is what You want me to do,
I'll carry it for You.

At the risk of being accused of being fatalistic, I think it would
probably do some of us good to occasionally say, God, I don't know why
you want me to carry this load. I can see no good in it and it's awfully
heavy. But, if you want me to carry it, I will.

[JOYnet] simple things that matter

2003-03-06 Thread Mary Paul
This is a simple and nice article which i got from a site. The authors
name is not mentioned there. This is about the little things which we
generally do, which may have a great impact on others which we maybe
unaware of. Mostly people watch us more in the ordinary things we do than
the great things.Rather than our words ,our actions ,our behaviour
speaks louder. One simple act can truly change the course of humanity. So
let us ask our loving heavenly father to help us set good examples
even in our simple actions ..A smile on ur face , a helping hand , a
few words of appreciation can change many lives.
You're Making a Lasting Impression One of the earliest memories I have of
my father is from one of the family vacations we took together. I was
about 7 years old at the time, and we were driving somewhere. My brother
and I were in the back of the car, with my mom and dad in the front. It
was mid-afternoon on a hot summer day when my dad saw an ice cream truck
and pulled over. As my father got out of the car, he saw a group of five
young boys sitting on the curb near the truck. Four of the five boys were
eating ice cream. I watched as my dad went over to the boy without the
ice cream and said to him, Would you like some ice cream? I'll buy one
for you. The boy politely told my father that he didn't want any. Sure,
it was a nice gesture on the part of my dad. But it wasn't a big deal,
right? Well... actually, it was.

My father's act of kindness toward a complete stranger was imprinted on
my mind that day. And I believe that my own conduct has been
significantly shaped by that event. My dad made a lasting impression on
me in another way as well. You see, social or economic status meant very
little to my father. He didn't gravitate to those with fancy titles. He
seemed just as interested in speaking to waiters and the people who wept
the floors. He respected everyone and looked down on nobody. And again,
my dad's conduct helped to influence the way that I deal with people to
this day.

Here are a few things to consider if you want to make a lasting
impression and be a good influence on others:

1. Recognize the paradox. We don't usually make a lasting impression when
we're trying to do so. Rather, it happens when we're just living our
lives and doing what may seem like ordinary, everyday things. Sure, there
are some who make an enduring impact through great achievement or by
being a celebrity. But lasting impressions are not reserved for famous
people like Oprah Winfrey or Michael Jordan. They're available to you and
me - every day, every moment. As I look back, I can't remember a time when
my dad sat down with me and said, Here's how you should treat people. I
simply observed how he lived his life. So, too, people are watching your
life, whether you realize it or not. This is true in all the life roles
you play - be it parent, child, employee, business owner, etc.

Too often, we live our lives on automatic pilot, that is, we do things
out of habit without realizing the effect our actions might have on
others. In many of these instances, our behavior does not match what we
declare to be our values. (For instance, you may think that you are
open- minded and then catch yourself being intolerant of someone with
different viewpoints.) Starting today, right now, realize that every
interaction

you have is precious. As author Dan Millman often says, there are no
ordinary moments. With this in mind, you can consciously choose, for
example, to be honest, kind and to give your best efforts at all times.

So, the next time you're about to do something, ask yourself: What action
would I take right now if I knew my behavior would have a lasting effect
on someone? This isn't about being perfect. There will always be times
when we behave in ways that we're not proud of. Yet, as you realize the
impact of your day-to-day conduct, you'll find yourself making different
choices.

3. It's hard to fathom the consequences of the lasting impressions we
make. When my father asked that young boy whether he wanted some
ice cream, he was affecting me - as well as everyone who would eventually
come into contact with me - forever! Isn't that incredible? Yet, it's not
an exaggeration. My dad's act helped to shape my character, which in
turn affects the way that I have dealt with people in the 40 years since
that event. Furthermore, the people who I have met may have
been affected and have passed along those values to others they have
met. It's an endless cycle. Thus, there are no small acts in this world.
One simple act can truly change the course of humanity.

In the end, you're going to make many lasting impressions, whether you
want to or not. It's up to you whether the messages you send are positive
or negative. As you go through your day today, give a little extra
consideration to how you speak and how you act. You just may be making
an impression that will endure for generations.
