I just recd this in my mail.

In Brooklyn, New York, Chush is a school that caters to learning
disabled
children. Some children remain in Chush for their entire school career,
while others can be main-streamed into regular schools.

At a Chush fund-raising dinner, the father of a Chush child delivered a
speech that would never be forgotten by all who attended. After
extolling
the school and its dedicated staff, he cried out, "Where is the
perfection
in my son Shaya? Everything God does is done with perfection. But my
child
cannot understand things as other children do. My child cannot remember
facts and figures as other children do. Where is God's perfection?"

The audience was shocked by the question, pained by the father's anguish
and

stilled by the piercing query. "I believe," the father answered, "that
when
God brings a child like this into the world, the perfection that he
seeks is
in the way people react to this child." He then told the following story
about his son, Shaya:

One afternoon, Shaya and his father walked past a park where some boys
Shaya
knew were playing baseball. Shaya asked, "Do you think they will let me
play?"

Shaya's father knew that his son was not at all athletic and that most
boys
would not want him on their team. But Shaya's father understood that if
his
son was chosen to play it would give him a comfortable sense of
belonging.
Shaya's father approached one of the boys in the field and asked if
Shaya
could play. The boy looked around for guidance from his teammates.

Getting none, he took matters into his own hands and said "We are losing
by
six runs and the game is in the eighth inning. I guess he can be on our
team
and we'll try to put him up to bat in the ninth inning."

Shaya's father was ecstatic as Shaya smiled broadly. Shaya was told to
put
on a glove and go out to play short center field. In the bottom of the
eight inning, Shaya's team scored a few runs but was still behind by
three.
In the bottom of the ninth inning, Shaya's team scored again and now
with
two outs and the bases loaded with the potential winning run on base.

Shaya was scheduled to be up. Would the team actually let Shaya bat at
this
juncture and give away their chance to win the game?

Surprisingly, Shaya was given the bat. Everyone knew that it was all but
impossible because Shaya didn't even know how to hold the bat properly,
let
alone hit with it. However as Shaya stepped up to the plate, the pitcher
moved a few steps to lob the ball in softly so Shaya should at least be
able
to make contact.

The first pitch came and Shaya swung clumsily and missed.

One of Shaya's teammates came up to Shaya and together they held the bat
and
faced the pitcher waiting for the next pitch.

The pitcher again took a few steps forward to toss the ball softly
toward
Shaya.

As the pitch came in, Shaya and his teammate swung at the ball and
together
they hit a slow ground ball to the pitcher.

The pitcher picked up the soft grounder and could easily have thrown the
ball to the first baseman. Shaya would have been out and that would have
ended the game.

Instead, the pitcher took the ball and threw it on a high arc to right
field, far beyond reach of the first baseman.

Everyone started yelling, "Shaya, run to first. Run to first."

Never in his life had Shaya run to first. He scampered down the
baseline
wide-eyed and startled. By the time he reached first base, the right
fielder
had the ball. He could have thrown the ball to the second baseman who
would
tag out Shaya, who was still running.

But the right fielder understood what the pitcher's intentions were, so
he
threw the ball high and far over the Third baseman's head.

Everyone yelled, "Run to second, run to second."

Shaya ran towards second base as the runners ahead of him deliriously
circled the bases towards home.

As Shaya reached second base, the opposing short stop ran to him, turned
him
in the direction of third base and shouted," Run to third."

As Shaya rounded third, the boys from both teams ran behind him
screaming,
"Shaya run home." Shaya ran home, stepped on home plate and all 18 boys
lifted him on their shoulders and made him the hero, as he had just hit
a
"grand slam" and won the game for his team.

"That day," said the father softly with tears now rolling down his face,
"those 18 boys reached their level of God's perfection."

Re: [JOYnet] Fw: Film songs and Devotional Songs

2003-03-12 Thread Wilson Thomas
Mary Auntie,

Anil has given a beautiful answer "If anything takes me away from my GOD, I
prefer to throw it away". One cannot tell what is beneficial and what is
non-beneficial for others, except for himself.

St. Paul said "All things are lawful for me, but not all things are
profitable. All things are lawful for me, but not all things build up" (1 Cor
10:23). St. Paul is talking about himself. It is he who decide what is
beneficial for oneself in building up his Church (my body).

As I mentioned in my first email, I am not against anybody listening to film
songs. It is absolutely your choice. The reason why I stopped was that I was
liking old film songs a lot which I realized "not beneficial" for my
relationship with Jesus. Infact, it was sowing bad thoughts/feelings in my
mind.

Let us take an e.g., "But those who have doubts are condemned if they eat,
because they do not act from faith; for whatever does not proceed from faith
is a sin"(Rom 14:23).. The same food... different law!!

Have you all heard of "The Principle of Lesser Devil ". You have only one
choice to pick from GOOD and BAD, the GOOD!! But, what if you have BAD and BAD
in front of you? Choose the lesser BAD one! or NO CHOICE!! Right?

In my case also the same happened... I had two choices ... Say YES or NO to
music. I choose YES! because if I choose NO, I cannot glorify my lord with the
talent what he has given to me. Now is the "Principle of Lesser Devil".. FILM
songs? or DEVOTIONAL songs? I choose DEVOTIONAL songs!! (Although there
are some songs that are recorded for the purpose of business benefits, they
are still better than FILM songs) Praise the Lord!

with lots of love and prayers

2003-03-12 Thread Anil Thomas
Dearest Mary auntie, Wilson and all,

Yeah I fully agree with Mary auntie and Wilson ... For me this
decesion depends on certain factors ... I'm just trying to write down my
thoughts and understanding, from my experience.

If anything takes me away from my GOD, I prefer to throw it away
... Else I'll keep it ...

I'll explain a bit on this statement I made.

I call my God a father, who becomes sad when my passion is not
in HIM. Anything that My GOD Doesn't like is a SIN. So anything that
takes my heart and mind away from him is a sin. I prefer to define sin
as a "seperation from GOD".

Listening to songs does not cause any trouble for normal person.
But there is another side of it, which I'll explain with respect to my
own experience. Few Years back when I was in college, My Spiritual Guide
Fr. Arikat asked me to drop All other Music
Well there is a background for that!!! I am a good listener of
music as well as a good critic. I play a few musical instruments too. I
recognize even the slightest mistakes made in any performances, which a
normal listner doesn't notice. I forget myself when I enjoy music
completely. I get immersed in it. Especially harmonies, melodies ... I
alone know the depth in which I enjoy good music !!! So whenever I want
to enjoy music I used to go to terrace and put my walkman(so that no one
notices me). But in a Mens Hostel its very difficult NOT to get noticed.
Some of my friends who have seen me told me that I dance with my walkman
ON(I don't know dancing!!). They say its very interesting to watch me
with my walkman on ... They say it's a natural expression ... I immerse
in music and forget myself !!!
The fact is that I came across very less Gospel songs that are
good considering the music part of it!!! So I prefered Filmi and other
songs.

"Music was my passion and Jesus Became Secondary". That's when
"Arikatachan" asked me to leave all Filmi music. I tried hard but could
not do that then. I was addicted. Now I am gradually trying to overcome
it. But gradually Jesus is building me.
Well I don't know if I have made the points and situations
clear. But in my heart I'm 100% convinced. I know that TRUE JOY is in
HIM. So although tough, I'm giving up certain things like this which
take me away from HIM.

I REPEAT ... I agree fully with Mary auntie, that nothing is
wrong with filmi songs unless it takes me away from God. We don't have
to leave anything, if it does not keep us away from GOD. In that case it
will become a fundementalistic decesion. And I become like the
pharasees, who observe the derived clauses of law. But breaks the
fundemental purpose of the law. Observe yourself. Do not fool ourself.
If anything is taking us away from HIM, Its Better o try to come out of
that addiction!!!

I still have so many likes... Icecream, chacolates, Chats,
Spicy foods, sweets The list goes on... Nothing is above Jesus, nor
will it be !!!

"IF ANYTHING TAKES ME AWAY FROM MY GOD, I PREFER TO LEAVE THAT !!! "

Luv n prayers,
Anil Thomas

Subject: [JYA] my church, my love :-)

dear all,
I've been meaning to share this with you for a long time. Over the last few
years, I've been asking God to give me deeper understanding and love for His
church. Though brought up Catholic, I was really under the influence of the
Protestant ways of doing things - which isn't bad... but I realized
(especially after WYD) just how much I was missing out on.

Over the last year or two, God has answered my prayers to such an extent that
I can really say from my heart, that I LOVE my church - she is exactly as the
bride described in the Songs of Solomon - beautiful, wise, and with depth :-)
let me share a few (a tiny amount, cuz to explain even half would take days of
typing!) of the things I learned.

Our church focuses alot on "we" - notice how all the we say prayers are
addressed between "us" and God. Everything in the church - including the the
ways the pews are laid out have actually been studied and choosen so that it
best facilitates the sense of "we have gathered". You know that big open space
where there are usually tables etc... that you pass right before you go inside
through the main door of the church... it's called the narfax - or gathering
place, it is installed in all churches for this reason (to gather the people).
Even the music - (I'm not refering to the tune - but the content and layout)
is different from protestant music... If U look at protestant music ... it's
MOSTLY "I" talking to/worshipping/praising God and it's mostly a one way
conversation (which has it's place - it's excellent for a part of your daily
prayer, or during intense moments before the Eucharist) but if you look at
Catholic music it is not only "we" talking to/worshipping/praising God but
also God responding to us - like a dialouge - very beautiful and complete. The
way Catholic music is written is such that it not just benifits the singer,
but also the listeners. For example, the Beatitude Song "Blessed are they, the
poor in spirit etc... the refrain goes "Rejoice and be glad, blessed are YOU
and holy are YOU... for YOURS is the kingdom of God" next time you sing that
song in church, look at someone, smile and sing it to them from your heart -
it's a very powerful moment - such a powerful promise - YOURS is the kingdom
of God!!!

The Church has never rejected the beauty and capacity of man - after all, we
are God's Children! The church encouraged music, art, dance - for the greater
glory of God and to build fellowship. Notice that we have flowers and stautes
in our churches - I think it's beautiful how we use 'the fuits of our hands'
for the glory of God. It seems like a small thing - but never underestimate
the power of small tokens of love - Little Flower St. Terese didn't :-)

I could go on forever! there is so much more beauty and depth in Christ and
Catholicism that we miss out on because we are the generation of
'instant-gratification' and 'instant-results' :-) I encourage you to read more
about your church and to add onto this email :-)

Love and Prayers
Marina

PLEASE ENDEAVOUR TO USE IT FOR THE CHILDREN OF GOD.
I am the above named person from Malaysia but now undergoing medical
treatment in germany. I am
married to Dr.Alan George Rowland who worked with Malaysia
embassy in South Africa for nine years before he died
in the year 2000.
We were married for eleven years without a child. He
died after a brief
illness that lasted for only four days. Before his
death we were both born again Christians.Since his
death I decided not to re-marry or get a child outside
my matrimonial home which the Bible is against. When my
late husband was alive he deposited the sum
of$27.6Million (twenty-seven Million six hundred
thousand U.S. Dollars) with one
finance/security company in Europe.
Presently, this money is still with the Security
Company. Recently, my Doctor told me that I would not
last for the next three months due to cancer problem.
Though what disturbs me most is my stroke.
Having known my condition I decided to donate this
fund to church or
better still a christian individual that will utilize
this money the way I am going to instruct here in. I want a church or
individual
that will use this to fund churches, orphanages and
widows propagating the word of God and to ensure that
the house of God is maintained. The Bible made us to
understand that Blessed is the hand that giveth.
I took this decision because I don't have any child
that will inherit this money and my husband relatives are not Christians
and I don't want my husband's hard earned money to be misused by
unbelievers. I don't want a situation where this money will be used in an
ungodly manner, hence the reason for taking this bold decision. I am
not afraid of death hence I know where I am going. I
know that I am going to be in the bossom of the Lord.
Exodus 14 VS 14 says that the lord will fight my case
and I shall hold my peace. I don't need any telephone
communication in this regard because of my health, and
because of the presence of my husband's relatives
around me always. I don't want them to know about this
development. With God all things are possible. As soon
as I receive your reply I shall give you the contact
of the Finance/Security Company Europe. I will also issue you a letter of
authority
that will empower you as the original- beneficiary of
this fund. I want you and the church to always pray
for me because the lord is my shephard. My happiness
is that I lived a life of a worthy Christian. Whoever
that wants to serve the Lord must serve him in spirit
and truth. Please always be prayerful all through your
life.
Any delay in your reply will give me room in
sourcing for a church or christian individual for this
same purpose. Please assure me that you will act
accordingly as I stated herein. Hoping to hear from
you.

Remain blessed in the name of the Lord.
Yours in Christ,
Mrs Sarah Rowland.

[JOYnet] Fw: falling in love

Subject: falling in love

Dear Deepak,
When you first fall in love it is an infatuation. You think of that person
all the time, you think that person is perfect and can do no wrong and generally you
feel wondeful. If both people are attracted to each other then you say there is a
chemistry between them and there are indeed a lot of chemicals in the body that make
these feelings possible and it has a lot to do with smells (phermones) than looks by
itself.
After a while you come down from heaven and face the reality of the situation and
nothing describes love better than what you read in Corinthians13;4-13.
Love is patient, love is kind. Love is not jealous,it does not put on airs.it is
not snobbish. Love is never rude,it is not selfseeking,it is not prone to
anger, neither does it brood over injuries.Love does not rejoice in what is wrong but
rejoices with the truth. There is no limit to loves forebearance,to its trust, to
itshope, its power to endure.Love never fails.
So if you thinkthis goes both ways and you can afford to getmarried and support a
family then you can get down on your knees and ask your beloved if she will marry you.
End of story. It goes without saying that you have to pray before and after you get
married.

[JOYnet] Fw: read this, please!

2003-02-11 Thread Tina Jose
A foward from one of my friends.

Tina

Today’s reading: Judges 8: 28
Thus Midian was subdued before the children of Israel, so that they lifted
their heads no more. And the country was quiet for forty years in the days
of Gideon.
The word ‘Gideon’ means ‘Feller’. To understand that word, we can take an
example from wrestling. The winner is the one who fells his opponent. Today,
God is going to fell our enemy and we will get a peace like we have never
experienced before. Today’s message is for those who have fallen down and
God wants to lift you up.
The Israelites was brought out of the slavery of Egypt and wandered in the
wilderness for 40 years because of their disobedience. Joshua led them into
the Promised Land – a land flowing with milk and honey. But they forgot
about the God Who saved them. They started worshipping the gods of the
people of the land. God punished them and then they cried unto Him. God
heard their cries and sent judges to deliver them from the enemy.
The story is found in the book of Judges. The first judge was Othniel. Read
Judges 3: 9 ‘When the children of Israel cried out to the Lord, the Lord
raised up a deliverer for the children of Israel, who delivered them:
Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother.’
In Judges 3: 15, we come across the second judge – Ehud. ‘But when the
children of Israel cried out to the Lord, the Lord raised up a deliverer for
them: Ehud the son of Gera, the Benjamite, a left-handed man. By him the
children of Israel sent tribute to Eglon king of Moab.’
The cycle carried on. God would deliver the Israelites – they would forsake
Him – God punished them – they cried out to Him and then He would raise a
judge and deliver them.
It was very similar to our current lives. When God blesses us in finance,
family and children, we tend to stray away from God. Then God punishes us to
get our attention. We cry out and again He delivers us. E.g. when the son
goes abroad and sends in huge drafts, the father forgets about God and lives
life lavishly. Then one day there is a phone call when he comes to know that
his son had a pain in his chest. It lasted only for two minutes but the
person is no more. And again the cries go out.
The third judge was Shamgar. We read about him in Judges 3: 31 ‘After him
was Shamgar the son of Anath, who killed six hundred men of the Philistines
with an ox goad; and he also delivered Israel.’
Fourth – Judges 4: 4 ‘Now Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lapidoth, was
judging Israel at that time.’
If man does not do what he is supposed to, God will raise certain women with
His power. God speaks that He is going to raise certain women filled with
His power in this city in the year 2003 – 04.
The fifth judge is the main character we faced today. Read Judges 6: 11 ‘Now
the Angel of the Lord came and sat under the terebinth tree which was in
Ophrah, which belonged to Joash the Abiezrite, while his son Gideon threshed
wheat in the winepress, in order to hide it from the Midianites.’
All the other judges were raised up but Gideon was already standing when the
Angel of the Lord went to him.
When you study the topography of Israel, you will see that threshing of
wheat is normally done in the valleys and the winepresses are found on the
hilltops. In fact there is no need to thresh the wheat on the mountaintop
but Gideon wanted to protect the little he had.
There is a God who blesses the one who wants to protect the little that he’s
got. God’s laws have a standard just like nature’s laws. Water will always
fall from up to down because of gravitational force. A coconut will not go
up from the tree because of the gravitational force. If a man stays wet for
long, he will catch fever because of his body reaction. In the same way, God
blesses the man who works.
Many of us will pray for hours but will not move a little finger to get the
work done. Remember prayer is not a substitute for work. Don’t expect God to
bless you if you just keep praying without any action. God expects you to
work and when you reach a point where you can’t go on, it is then that God
will come and work for you.
Yesterday at a meeting in my office, I asked the sub-convenor what was his
plan of action for a conference that was coming up recently. He said he had
none. He said he was just going to handle issues as they came.
Even a thief who has planned his robbery will get away with his loot safely.
God wants us to work and blesses those who do.
When the Angel of the Lord came to Gideon, he was already standing up. God
had heard the cries of the people of Israel and decided to help them. But
how was He going to help?
Read Judges 6: 12 And the Angel of the Lord appeared to him, and said to him
“The Lord is with you, you mighty man of valor!”
If you work, God is definitely going to work for you. The Holy Spirit speaks
that if you work today and tomorrow, God is going to bless you the day after
That is, if you work for 24/48 hours, God is going to bless you after that.
Within 48 hou

Hi all dear bro & sis' ,

First I thought I would not take part in this discussion regarding the posting
of job oppertunities in Joynet.Later I realise that if i did n't say
something I am doing injustice to those people who had posted some job
oppertunities here.

Ofcourse I agree that Joynet is not intended for posting jobs or finding
friends Sure , there are other places only for these purposes.

As we all know thousands of appllicants are wandering around these days. Most
Companies do not publish their job opennings in the jobsites. Most of the posts
are filled thru internal employee references now a days.

Job seekers, who are not having personal contacts with employees in
companies would not even know about the opennings.I would like to invite your
kind attention to two recent postings in the Joynet.
One was by jobi varghese and the other one was from stanly kulangara.Jobi's
posting was about an openning in his company (Oracle) and he did give his
company id.No where else the comapny published the job opening and you can
apply only thru employees. That means if you do n't have a contact in Oracle
you are not eligible for applying. In this cirumstance what he did is a Divine
help, I have no doubt to call it as divine help.I can n't find something
wrong in helping others in any circustnace by any means. Also I think a good
number of JOYnet members will benifit from such postings. If you do n't need
why can n't you simply delete it upon reading the subject.?
How such mails can fill the Inboxes? When The text mails are normally of size
less than 50 k.

Not all can survive in this world dedicating all their time for spiritual
works. But for most us spiritual life is a most important PART of our
life. Those who argued aganist job posting, i think are already enjoying good
positions.

I think I did n't hurt any oneMy humble opinion is that we should post
important openings (especailly those are not available in any other place) in
JOYnet.

TO HELP IS DIVINE.

regards and prayers

Subject: [PLsBest] Opinions from the list?

I got into a heated argument at work today...
A woman I work with was talking about the "pro-life" march in Washington
tomorrow. I told her my daughter would be there, it's a school trip. My
problem with it is I feel she doesn't know why she's marching... she's
14.
So I asked her... (my daughter that is) and she told me she's marching
against abortion, because it's wrong, it's murder and it should be
illegal.
ok... So then my question to her was the same to the woman at work I
argued with... Don't you think that there is a gray area? I mean things
are not always black or white. Don't you think there are circumstances
where it could save a life? Or maybe some other extreme circumstances
where the emotional well being of the pregnant woman should be
considered? Both replied the same... NO! It's wrong... the end.
I'm sorry but I disagree... I told my daughter it is a wonderful thing
to march for something you believe in. But make sure you have made an
INFORMED decision and are not marching because your teacher said you
should. It has to be something you truly believe in etc etc. I was told
again that abortion is murder and anyone who has one should go to jail.
I see... ( sounds like a bit of brainwashing going on here) So I gave
her an example of "gray area" Suppose I became pregnant... and suppose
the doctor told me to go through labor and child birth would probably
kill me. What do you think I should do? (I went on...) Suppose I was
raped and became pregnant? Should I be expected to carry and give birth
to this child conceived in an act of violence? Suppose it was a case of
incest? Suppose I am just a 16 year old girl, guilty only of being a bit
naive and poor judgment? These things I asked my daughter to think
about. I also stressed that no, I do NOT Believe it should be used as a
form of birth control but there are time when I think it's ok. And no, I
don't think a woman should go to jail because she chooses to terminate a
pregnancy WHATEVER her reasons are. So she is thinking...
As for the woman I work with... I asked her what made it ok for so
called pro lifers to bomb abortion clinics? I asked her how it is that
the law says child molesters go to jail but the church forgives priests
who molest children?? I asked her how she personally would feel about
carry a child conceived through rape or incest. She said she would be ok
with it because it was "God's will" (ummm yeah, right) I bowed down to
her in the breakroom and insisted to my co-workers we were indeed in the
presence of greatness. All of us please bow down to the newest saint in
the catholic church... All Hail Saint "Ima Fullocrap" Well her
saintliness left in a huff so I'm guessing the discussion was over? I'm
really interested in getting your opinions about this. Please feel free
to express yourself.

[JOYnet] Fw: Thanks Giving.

2003-01-02 Thread Sajimon Thomas
Subject: Thanks Giving.

Dear Friends in Jesus Christ,

Last month, I had requested everybody to pray for me to get my Driving Licence
in Canada.By the grace of and and the power of the prayer of all, I passed out
"G' Driving Licence directly without going through the normal steps of GI, G2
and G with the first attempt itself. Since I was driving in Dubai, I could
give one shoot Test for G directly for one time. If you fail, you need to
start from the begining. I would not have achieved this without the grace of
God. Many people suggested and advised me not to take a chance. Through the
prayer, I got courge to give test directly. My wife, Geethu will also giving
test like this during Jan 2002. Please keep her in your prayers.

I am sorry for acknowledging this grace late. Also, I made prayer request for
getting a job of Office line. Gracefully, I got a decent Office job for the
last two days. Please keep me in your prayers to fulfill this job
successfully.

Once again I thank all of you and Wishing you all a very happyand prosperous
New Year. May the good Lord bless you all.

With love and prayers, Sajimon, Mississauga, Canada.

[JOYnet] FW: JYA CHRISTMAS NOVENA - D

2002-12-23 Thread FR. THOMAS THARAYIL
Sixth Day

The Word of God: Let this be a sign to you: in a manger you will find an
infant in swaddling clothes, (Luke 2:12)

Reflection: The Lord adorned the heavens with planets and stars, and our
earth with plants and flowers, yet He rests in a cold stable.

Prayer: Little Savior of mankind, you created the world and all that is
in it by your plentiful power. By that same power you will come to judge
the world. But to save us and to win us you came in weakness and
littleness to prove to us how with your assistance, strength may be born
in the powerlessness of love. Amen

Practice: Let us humble ourselves today to honor the Christ Child and to
overcome our pride with the help of His grace.

"You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden.
Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put
it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.
In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your
good deeds and praise your Father in heaven"
Matthew 5:14-16

[JOYnet] FW: Healing in Wellington

2002-12-06 Thread Sunny Thomas
Dear friends in Jesus

This is the witnessing of Joseph 73 years of age in Wellington
who was healed of his partial deafness and when the Lord touched.
Praise the Lord

Subject: Healing

Dear Fr Thomas

As all members of the family and friends know, I have been partly deaf
for
several years now. My wife and our sons have been pressurising me to get
myself a hearing-aid because I could not even participate in the
conversation at the dining table except with the persons sitting close
to
me. But I kept putting it off saying if the Lord wants me to improve my
hearing He should either give me the money for a hearing-aid or heal me.
Most of the time I missed the Word of God being proclaimed at Mass. But
I
found a solution for that by reading the Missal before going to church.
In
fact it turned out to be a much needed preparation for the Mass and I
considered my partial deafness as a blessing indeed.

After you touched my ears and prayed over me I felt a dull pain deep
within
my ear-drums and a warmth around my ears. As I walked back to my seat I
realised with joy that I have experienced some healing. I then asked my
wife
to whisper in my ears any sweet nothing and I could hear her whereas in
the
past I would not be able to hear if she spoke to me softly in the
church. So
we went on with our "experiment" for a little while with joy and
excitement.
A friend of ours who was obviously watching all the carryings-on between
us
wondered what the matter was with both of us. Then when I stood up and
gave
testimony to my healing her curiosity was answered.

Before the healing I could not even hear the alarm clock beside my bed
even
when I lie awake, and my wife has to drag herself over me to put it
off.!!
This morning I could hear it well as I was lying awake.

Thank you Fr.Thomas for being an instrument of God for healing my
partial
deafness. As Jesus said to his apostles that they would perform even
greater
miracles, may the Lord bless your ministry and truly empower you to do
greater works of mercy for His glory.

Thank you once again for bringing healing to me.

With love and prayers

Yours sincerely in the Blessed Lord

Joseph.

Dear Father,

I fell off the ladder in may this year. Ever since that I was having
terrible pain and I could not even sleep. The doctors told me that surgery
would not be possible due to a previous spinal operation in the late
seventies. I was also told that this will always hurt me and that I will
have a bad limp. The L3 is 25% out L4 and L5 is 50% out.

Today during the mass the I have received complete healing . Praise the
Lord . I thank God for sending you to us and I thank you father for your
prayers

God bless you always

[JOYnet] FW: the lamb of god

2002-11-10 Thread Sunny Thomas
Dear friends in Jesus

Praise and thanks to our Lord God Jesus for his great mercy
and Love on us. Atttached below is a note prepared by my daughters
Elizabeth, Rose and Teresa when Fr.Thomas asked them to prepare
something on the Lamb of God.

The Lamb of God
In John 1:36 it says: "When he saw Jesus walking by, He said there is
the Lamb of God." This means Jesus is the new sacrifice. In Leviticus
16:21, 22 we see that the lamb takes away our sins. This was the Old
Testament term. But now the bread of life takes away our sins. We all go
to church and eat this bread of life but not with all our heart, our
mind and our soul. In john chapter 13 verse 27 it says "As
soon as Judas took the bread, Satan entered into him" so if we don't
eat the bread with all our heart, our mind and our soul we will be like
Judas (who betrayed Jesus) But if we eat this bread with all our heart,
our mind and our soul our sins will be forgotten and we will be born
again not physically but spiritually. Praise the lord.

[JOYnet] FW: Christian Sensitivity! Shalom Editorial

2002-10-23 Thread KC
Dear Friends,

Perhaps, one of the things that make or break relationships, is
sensitivity or the lack of it towards the other person. Well intentioned
and sometimes, not so well - intentioned inquiries hurt people,
especially those in the same prayer group, cell or parish! You yourself
might have been a victim to this! Certain questions about family,
finance, illness ...the list goes on... Therefore, the relevance of
Benny Punnathara's (of Shalom, Calicut) article forwarded herewith

The Priest & his assistant in the Good Samaritan's story who didn't help
the wounded man were right in their actions. They were not supposed to
get "defiled" on their way to worship God as per the Law those days.
However, Jesus had a different view. He praised the Good Samaritan - the
kind man from the enemy state of the wounded man, who was:
- Sensitive
- Kind
- Arranged to care the wounded man.

In other words, to Sympathize is all the more easy for us as Charismats
(We have a soft corner for everybody!). That's not enough of a
Christian, unfortunately! We need to Empathize. When you add "an action
of Love" to Sympathy and you have Empathy.

Examples we know:
Veronica wiping Jesus' face during His Passion, Mother Mary helping out
panic stricken Cana family with wine, Jesus asking the Blind beggar -
"What do you want?" and many more. Sometimes all we need to do is just
to make silent intercessions without asking embarrassing questions
(which satisfies a personal need "the need to know it"!). Jesus NEVER
asks for an account of anyone's past. He's only interested to know if
you are willing...willing to follow Him NOW...faithfully!!!

May we have His Heart and Mind to follow His Life Style!

I dedicate this mail & Benny's message to all the JYs and the would be
JYs and all those who were ever hurt by our in-sensitiveness.

God bless us all,

Shaji Chacko, Dubai

2002-10-05 Thread Manoj Sunny

Dear Manoj
Greetings in the Precious Name of Jesus Our Saviour! Thank you very much
for your prayers for Michael and for us. It is your prayer that is helping us
to cope with the present situation. Michael has started his treatment at St.
Luke¡¯s Hospital Malta. However we will have to wait for 3 weeks to know if he
is responding to the medicine. We do believe that ¡°With God all things are
possible¡±. Michael is still undergoing many tests. He will be going through
physiotherapy next week.

We have placed Michael in the loving hands of Our Lord, and the Peace that
passes all understanding rules our hearts. ¡° God is our refuge and strength.
In Him we place our trust¡±

Please do continue to pray for us, specially for Michael.

Thank u very much for sending our prayer request to JOYnet. Thank u very much
for your support and encouragement during this time for us. Our love to Beena
and the boys.

God bless you.

Colin & Priya

--FEATURED FUNNY:

To help pass the time while traveling in the car, a
young boy practiced his new reading skills by calling
out road signs.

Just before they entered Quebec, he fell fast asleep.
When he awoke he saw the French highway signs and said
in a worried tone, "I think I forgot how to read while
I was sleeping!"

Dear Friends in the Faith,

Zoe (our 4 month daughter) has been diagonised with Atopic Dermatitis.
This causes rashes to erupt on the skin accompanied by
itching...medically can only be controlled...not cured.

Please stand with us in pleading our cause before our Lord.

With warm regards,
Binu & Mary.

[JOYnet] FW: Peace

2002-09-22 Thread George Joseph Fernandes

Written by Mario Bermejo:
Peace seems to be a scant commodity in the world today. I said "seems"
because real peace may be present even in the midst of chaos as the
following anecdote vividly portrays.
The theme chosen for an on-the-spot painting competition was "PEACE". At
stake was honor, fame and cash. Contestants were asked to depict on canvas
as best they could the subject of peace. The artists had the whole day to
work on their pieces - in the evening was the awarding ceremony. The
completed works of art were displayed before the judges, some of whom were
well-known artists themselves. One painting was a country scene in the night
with the moon and stars lighting the cloudless sky. Another painting showed
an old farmhouse with little children gleefully playing around. Another
depicts the tranquillity of a lake reflecting majestic mountains in the
background. Still another portrayed a modern city asleep peacefully in the
midst of a light-gilded landscape. The rest of the paintings were typical of
what people may consider scenes of serenity, quietude and tranquillity.
However, one painting stood out from among the others in that it portrayed a
raging storm in its fury - with a little bird that appeared to be singing as
it found refuge under a huge and mighty rock. The judges were unanimous this
was the best portrayal of what peace really is.
This reminds me of Jesus when He was peacefully asleep while His disciples
were in a state of panic because the boat they were on board was being
buffeted by a storm in the middle of the sea. In fear they woke up their
Master and complained that they were about to sink into the depths of the
sea. Jesus rebuked them and calmed the storm by saying, "Peace, be still".
How could you panic, "Oh, ye of little faith", when the Prince of Peace was
in your midst?
PEACE IS NOT THE ABSENCE OF TROUBLE BUT THE PRESENCE OF GOD.

Re: [JOYnet] Fw: Gujarat Massacre

2002-07-04 Thread JASON :)

I remember this article as it was forwarded to me by another JY. We do know
about the ethnic cleansing that is presently going on in Gujarat and I do
hope we do guys are praying for the current situation out there. I was
reading the accounts of Jowher, a corporate banker, visiting lecturer at the
Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, and secretary of the Indian
Institute of Public Administration. I was touched when I read this para in
his interview:

After Jowher plunged into relief work, he felt, "I've lost my self-respect,
my dignity; I can't walk the roads for which I pay taxes. But I've earned
abiding and meaningful friendships. So, though I started reluctantly, I have
continued by choice; just to play with the orphaned children, to embrace a
raped woman, has brought me satisfaction.''

In Mumbai last week to raise funds and refocus attention on Gujarat, Jowher
asked for tin/cement sheets to protect the refugees from the monsoons,
undergarments (''so essential but never talked about''), and for volunteers
to go to camps and show victims they belong.

"A Sikh boy from Mumbai met an old man in a camp. He silently hugged him,
the hug turned into a long embrace. The old man wept. So did the boy. The
old man declared, 'I won't commit suicide.' All his family had been killed.
The hug gave him reason to live. The victims need compassion. They need to
feel they matter to you.''

CRY, THE BELOVED COUNTRY

Reflections on the Gujarat massacre

By Harsh Mander

Numbed with disgust and horror, I return from Gujarat ten days
after the terror and massacre that convulsed the state. My heart
is sickened, my soul wearied, my shoulders aching with the burdens
of guilt and shame. As you walk through the camps of riot
survivors in Ahmadabad, in which an estimated 53,000 women, men,
and children are huddled in 29 temporary settlements, displays of
overt grief are unusual. People clutch small bundles of relief
materials, all that they now own in the world, with dry and glassy
eyes. Some talk in low voices, others busy themselves with the
tasks of everyday living in these most basic of shelters,
looking
for food and milk for children, tending the wounds of the injured.
But once you sit anywhere in these camps, people begin to speak
and their words are like masses of pus released by slitting large
festering wounds. The horrors that they speak of are so macabre,
that my pen falters in the writing. The pitiless brutality
against
women and small children by organised bands of armed young men is
more savage than anything witnessed in the riots that have shamed
this nation from time to time during the past century.

I force myself to write a small fraction of all that I heard and
saw, because it is important that we all know. Or maybe also
because I need to share my own burdens.

What can you say about a woman eight months pregnant who begged to
be spared. Her assailants instead slit open her stomach, pulled
out her foetus and slaughtered it before her eyes. What can you
say about a family of nineteen being killed by flooding their
house with water and then electrocuting them with high-tension
electricity.

What can you say? A small boy of six in Juhapara camp described
how his mother and six brothers and sisters were battered to death
before his eyes. He survived only because he fell unconscious, and
was taken for dead. A family escaping from Naroda-Patiya, one of
the worst-hit settlements in Ahmedabad, spoke of losing a young
woman and her three month old son, because a police constable
directed her to `safety' and she found herself instead surrounded
by a mob which doused her with kerosene and set her and her baby
on fire. I have never known a riot which has used the sexual
subjugation of women so widely as an instrument of violence in
the
recent mass barbarity in Gujarat. There are reports every where of
gang-rape, of young girls and women, often in the presence of
members of their families, followed by their murder by burning
alive, or by bludgeoning with a hammer and in one case with a
screw driver.

Women in the Aman Chowk shelter told appalling stories about how
armed men disrobed themselves in front of a group of terrified
women to cower them down further. In Ahmedabad, most people I met
- social workers, journalists, survivors - agree that what
Gujarat
witnessed was not a riot, but a terrorist attack followed by a
systematic, planned massacre, a pogrom. Everyone spoke of the
pillage and plunder, being organised like a military operation
against an external armed enemy. An initial truck would arrive
broadcasting inflammatory slogans, soon followed by more trucks
which disgorged young men, mostly in khaki shorts and saffron
sashes. They were armed with sophisticated explosive materials,
country weapons, daggers and trishuls. They also carried water
bottles, to sustain them in their exertions. The leaders were
seen
communicating on mobile telephones from the riot venues, receiving
instructions from and reporting back to a co-ordinating centre.
Some were seen with documents and computer sheets listing Muslim
families and their properties. They had detailed precise
knowledge
about buildings and businesses held by members of the minority
community, such as who were partners say in a restaurant business,
or which Muslim homes had Hindu spouses were married who should be
spared in the violence. This was not a spontaneous upsurge of
mass
anger. It was a carefully planned pogrom.

The trucks carried quantities of gas cylinders. Rich Muslim homes
and business establishments were first systematically looted,
stripped down of all their valuables, then cooking gas was
released from cylinders into the buildings for several minutes. A
trained member of the group then lit the flame which efficiently
engulfed the building. In some cases, acetylene gas which is used
for welding steel, was employed to explode large concrete
buildings. Mosques and dargahs were razed, and were replaced by
statues of Hanuman and saffron flags. Some dargahs in Ahmedabad
city crossings have overnight been demolished and their sites
covered with road building material, and bulldozed so efficiently
that these spots are indistinguishable from the rest of the road.
Traffic now plies over these former dargahs, as though they never
existed.

2002-06-18 Thread Josun Jose

No matter how religious you may or may not be this could still give you

Phil. 4:13 I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.

A young man who had been raised as an atheist was training to be an Olympic
diver. The only religious influence in his life came from his outspoken
Christian friend. The young diver never really paid much attention to his
friend's sermons, but he heard them often. One night the diver went to the
indoor pool at the college he attended. The lights were all off, but as the
pool had big skylights and the moon was bright, there was plenty of light to
practice by. The young man climbed up to the highest diving board and as he
turned his back to the pool on the edge of the board and extended his arms
out, he saw his shadow on the wall. The shadow of his body, was in the shape
of a cross. Instead of diving, he knelt down and finally asked God to come
into his life. As the young man stood, a maintenance man walked in and turned
the lights on. The pool had been drained for repairs.

Remember this story and send it to a friend. Yes, I do Love Jesus. He is my
source of existence and Savior. He keeps me functioning each and everyday.
Without Him, I will be nothing. Without him, I am nothing but with Him I can
do all things through Christ that strengthens me. Phil4:13

Dear Friend,
All of us have had moments of frustration and disillusionment
in our lives. These are moments when we felt like giving up and quitting. The
disciples on the way to Emmaus were packing up and taking off. What is our
reaction to our disillusionments? I would like to reflect on this theme with
you. Wishing you an 'Emmaus' weekend! -Fr. Jude

Sunday Reflections: 3rd Sunday of EasterApril 14th. 2002
Making sense of it all!
Readings: Acts 2: 14; 22-28; 1 Peter 1: 17-21
Gospel: Luke 24: 13-35
.
The ongoing theme of the Easter season is the peace that the risen Lord brings
into the lives of those who believed in him. The present day battles in the
Holy land, the scandals in the Church, the increase in crime all over the
world, the ever-present threats of terrorism and war could tend to depress us.
May His Word this Sunday renew hope in our lives!

In the first reading we hear Peter preaching the first Christian sermon of the
five recorded in the Acts of the Apostles. He gave it fearlessly on that first
Pentecost and it contains in a nutshell what we are called to believe. It is
centred on the idea that if we are loyal to the Lord, he will see us through,
even though we may not see him physically. Peter proclaimed Jesus in the words
of the sixteenth Psalm, which he saw as having foretold Jesus' passion, death
and resurrection.
Peter's preaching and witness is a wonderful testimony to the resurrection of
the Lord because of the awesome transformation that was wrought in Peter
himself. This impulsive, bumbling, vacillating frightened shaky man chosen to
be the leader of the Apostles is completely transformed by the Spirit of the
risen Lord which now has taken possession of him. Peter is now courageous,
fearless, single-minded, loyal and ready to suffer for the Master. What the
Lord did for Peter he continues to do for all believers who are transformed
and changed into fearless evangelisers in the measure that they let the Lord
take over their lives.

The Gospel has one of the most beautiful stories of the post resurrection
appearances of the risen Lord, the journey of the disciples to Emmaus. There
are several insights that we can apply to our lives from this moving incident
that is noted only in the Gospel of Luke. First of all we can note that the
incident described tells us that the disciples to whom Jesus appeared were not
the leaders but ordinary disciples, in fact we know only one by name Cleophas.
The town mentioned, Emmaus was not well-known and till today there is a
discussion about which of the possible six sites could be the Emmaus. Perhaps
the point being made is the fact that Jesus can appear to any one whom he
chooses to reveal himself to. His appearances were not restricted to the
leaders but to unknown, ordinary followers as well. The fact that Emmaus was
not popular also tells us that God reveals himself not only in popular holy
places, like Lourdes. Fatima, Garabandal, Medjugorie but can reveal himself to
us in the most insignificant of places, our hometown! Thirdly, the fact that
Jesus joined them on the road is a forceful reminder that God comes to us
along the journey of life, not necessarily in the temple or Church alone but
often along the least expected paths that we travel along in life.

Secondly, we are reminded that when Jesus joined them along the road they were
not aware of who this stranger was though they let him join in the
conversation. Jesus enquired: " What are you discussing about ? That was
enough for them to pour out what was uppermost in their thoughts at the
moment. "You must be the only stranger in Jerusalem, who does not know the
things that have taken place there these days." They shared all their
disappointments, their disillusionment, their shattered hopes and dreams about
Jesus and the coming of the Messiah. What is happening between them and Jesus
is a perfect model of prayer, with Jesus' help they are able to open up their
hearts and place all before Jesus. Jesus in turn patiently listens to them and
starts explaining and situating the recent events in the context of what had
been written in the scriptures about Jesus. Yet they were slow to understand
and accept all that Jesus said. They would have preferred to have things work
out differently. They could not accept his passion and death and they refused
to accept the resurrection though they had heard reports about it. In fact
their way of coping with their disappointment was to withdraw from the company
of the apostles and run away from Jerusalem. Their reaction is not very
different from our own. We want things to go the way we want plan them or
expect them to be, we cannot accept that God may

[JOYnet] Fw: Ash Wednesday Reflections

2002-02-14 Thread Jennifer

Dear Friends,

Today is a Blessed Day for all of us infact more rightly I should say a
beginning for abundant of Blessings to fall on us. We need to be receptive
however and never stop receiving graces because God doesn't stop giving ever.
Today as I attended the Mass I remember the sermon of father which I would
like to share with all of you. He said that we need to remember certain
things as we begin the Holy days of Lent:

1) We can begin this season by repentance through the act of reconciliation
which most of us normally do before Easter.
2) Fasting and Praying. When we fast it is very necessary that we pray also
and thereafter nothing can stop God's graces to fall on us and our near & dear
ones.
3) Alms giving. Alms giving doesn't include giving of money and food only but
something more precious than that.any
guesses... yes u r right "LOVE". Let us give more of us and our Love
to all those who need it. Giving of LOVE especially to those we don't like
would be the Best Almsgiving and definitely pleasing to God.

We need to be Happy and not gloomy as we begin this beautiful season of Lent
which reminds us of the great Victory of our Lord Jesus Christ and let us
spend a little extra time with Him thanking Him for our Salvation.

I am forwarding the Reflection on today's readings received from Fr. Jude.

Have a Blessed Day and May God be with you All.

Love & Prayers

Dear Friend,

On Wednesday we begin the season of Lent. What we recall are those words:
"Remember thou are dust and into dust thou shall return" a solemn reminder of
death, coupled with the ashes imposed on our forehead.
Yet Lent need not be a gloomy season. Here are my reflections to get you
started into the joyful season of Lenten. May His Spirit inspire
-Fr. Jude -

Ash Wednesday - February 13th 2002
Readings: Joel 2: 12-18   2 Corinthians 5: 20-6:2:2;
Gospel: Matthew 6:1-6, 16-18

No doubt as we enter the season of Lent we are invited to repent and to turn
back to the Lord. We are invited to make penance and to ask the Lord pardon
for our sins. But the main focus is not and should not be on our sins and
weaknesses that will only succeed in making us feel guilty, miserable and
depressed. Rather we are asked to lift up our gaze on the Father who is full
of mercy and forgiveness. May the word of God rekindle the fire of love in our
hearts!

The ritual ceremony of Ash Wednesday is the imposition of the ashes on our
forehead. The church gives the celebrating priest two options of statements
while imposing the ashes, either: "Remember thou art dust and to into dust
thou shall return." or "Repent and believe in the Gospel." While the latter
reminds us of our mission as Christians, the former reminds us of death that
awaits us at the end of our life. Whether we like it or not we have to be
ready to meet our maker. If I have lived each day for Him I have nothing to
fear. Am I ready right now to meet Him?

One tick at a time!
A little watch was terrified at the thought of ticking away 60 seconds, times
60 times 24 hours, times 365 days. How would it manage? But the old large
grandfather clock standing in the hallway smiled, "Do not fret, my son. I have
been going now for three generations, and my experience is that all you need
to remember is this: you are expected to produce only one tick at a time."

The first reading from the prophet Joel is an invitation to true repentance
and reconciliation with our God. "Come back to me with all your hearts! Let
your hearts be broken, not your garments torn, turn to the Lord for he is full
of all tenderness and compassion, slow to anger and rich in forgiveness." The
prophet points out that repentance does not consist in the external ritual,
whatever it may be: putting on ashes, wearing torn garments, making penance or
sacrifices. The core of repentance is coming back to the Lord, saying sorry to
the person I have hurt and making amends for the pain I have caused. To show
that we are genuinely sorry for what we
have done, we fast, we pray, we make sacrifices and other acts of penance. But
the latter without the former are empty and not pleasing to God.

St. Paul reminds us in the letter to the Corinthians that the acceptable time
is now, the present moment. "Well, now is the favourable time: this is the
moment of salvation." If we look at our lives most of us live in the past or
in the future. So much of our lives is a regret for the past: "
Why did she say that, how could he have been so rude?" " How stupid of me to
have made such a silly mistake?" " Why did that have to happen to me?"
"If only that had happened." If not regrets for the past then we are worried
and frightened about the future: "Oh my God, what will I do if I loose my job,
fail in my exam?" "What will happen to me if I fall sick with that dreadful
disease?" " W

Subject: from jude

 dear brothers
jude here writing u from kannur, and wishing all of u
 peace and sound sleep.
i got one mail few months back, and it was forwarded
by one of the torch bearer, shimmy, and the essence
was a man was picked up by mother teresa from a dirty
place and she took him to their home, cleaned his
wounds and gave him food and after two days he died
and, before he died he said this words to mother
teresa,i was like a stray dog in the street and now im
going to die as an angel and he died.
i read this letter few months back, abd it touched my
heart and just gone to its way.

let me tell bout myself, im jude and working 500kms
away from home in kannur in a government hospital, and
we have a male ward contains mostly poor tb apatients
and destitutes, who lives with lack of good food and
 medication.

few days back a patient came to me and he was mani,
suffered with high fever and pain to take his x ray, i
took the film and shows the doctor.

after a week doctors find out that mani got HIV virus
in his body and he is not responding to any medicine
and he simply laying in the bed without taking any
medicine and food, and everyone in the hospital
sympathize and no one gives care or food.

when the superitendent of our hospital asked me, to
find a suitable place to shift him and let him die. i
dialled almost all the place in the kannur and no one
was ready to take care of this hiv patient.
at last i just called a doctor in a hospital, of
course he is a catholic and he given me the address
of one place runs by nuns and they usually take care
all the destitutes, especially hiv patients,
i just given the LORD all glory and honour.
and i got permission from pir supertendent to use our
ambulance without paying the money and also he given
me two helpers to shoft the patient into ambulance.

when i get into the ward i could feel the smell coming
out from his mouth and all his body part and no one
was with him, and simply laying without much
conscience, when i asked the helpers to shift, with
lot of difficuilty they shift him into the stretcher
 and into the ambulance.

after shifting him these guys get into the front door
and seated beside the driver after them i too found a
place to sit. after 5 minutes i asked the driver to
stop the amnbulance to check him, when i saw he was
crying out with pain and i told him to not to worry,
and i seated beside him, and i could feel the smell
which smells like burning meat an all, when our
ambulance get into a gutter he cried and hold my hand
and tell me that he's going to die, i said nothing is
going to happen u, and be brave, and i simply took the
drip into my hands and gently massage his chest and i
saw that he really experincing the caring, and i was
so restless that time, complaining the helpers and i
was grumbling in my mind, and i started praising HIS
name and he simply fell into sleep.
i read a lot about aids patient and this is the first
time im experiencing the real thing before my eyes and
it was so terrible and i can now know the agony, pain
and rejectin from all their loved ones.
when we reached the place a board was theirnamed
 "PRATHYASA BHAVAN"
and when we shifted the patient into the room i coould
see the beautiful faces of many nuns who ave their
lives to christ and doing all this missionary work,
and they belong to fcc concregation (St:clare) and
they cleaned him, took off his clothes and suited him
a fresh cloth and finally they prayed.
it was the time for us to say bye to him, and when i
say him bye he hold my hands and said thanx and all,
at that time i could see the patient in that story
simply saying " I WAS LIKE A STRAY DOG IN THE STREET
AND NOW IM GOING TO DIE AS AN ANGEL "

dear brothers, we dont know what is going to happen to
us, and i firmly believe that this incident is for me
to remember me the real value of life.
when all the nations crying out for the mercy killing,
i really experienced here the value of life and i saw
a man who really thirst to live, and i just want to
sat to all that life is god given and only he has the
 authority to take back.

 in HIS love
 jude

[JOYnet] FW: Prayer

2001-09-16 Thread joserino

-Original Message-
From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]
Sent: Sunday, September 16, 2001 7:57 AM
Subject: Prayer

This is a prayer received from Fr.William who is working in USA:

God our Father, Almighty God, through Jesus Christ your Son, who defeated
evil in His death and resurrection, and in whose blood we pray, and in
the power and authority of the Holy Spirit, given to us in our Baptism,
multiplied by the grace of God:

You have promised that where evil abounds, grace abounds the more! You
have promised in your holy word that when the enemy comes in like a
flood, the Lord will raise a standard against it! Standing on these
promises, we join together as the Body of Christ to pray for Your
deliverance from this enemy attack. We ask for your protection against
further attacks. We ask you to send in an army of your holy angels to
block further attacks, to blind the enemy with your holy face shining
through the faces of your angels, to deafen the enemy's ears by speaking
your holy word of truth into their ears, in order to stop them from
networking with each other and furthering their evil plans.

We ask you God, to assist those who are in need of being rescued. Send in
your holy angels in physical form to lift them and carry them away from
danger, regardless of whether these are children who believe in you or
not, for they are all your children. Send in holy angels to assist the
human rescuers, to protect them and to lead them to those who need
rescuing and to lead them safely back out.

We ask you, loving God, to send your spirit of comfort to all those who
are frightened, all those who have just lost loved ones, and all of the
nation and the world who are shaken by this evil tragedy.

Lord may those who have died and who will die in this tragedy experience
your great mercy. Grant that their souls be saved through the Blood
Christ Jesus shed for them, and grant that they join you in Heaven today!

We ask You, spirit of wisdom, to guide all the decision makers, from our
President on down to the least of those who are aiding in the recovery
from this disaster or in the protection from further attack. Protect them
from discouragement as they work of the good of all of us. Guide them
and their actions through this entire experience. And we add to this
that your Holy Spirit will rush in and speak to all those who have been
involved in making this disaster and who are planning more. They are Your
children, also, even if they don't know you. We pray for their souls. We
ask that your Holy Spirit bring them to conversion and repentance and a
change of heart and mind, in time to prevent further disasters.

And Lord Jesus, teach us to love our enemies. Direct our thoughts and
feelings, anger and fear, into prayers of love for those who need Your
redemption most. Lord, have mercy on them, have mercy on us all, lead all
souls to You, especially those who are right now in most need of Your
mercy!

You have promised in Romans 8:28 that all things will be worked for the
good of those who love the Lord. Our nation was founded on faith in you,
O Lord, and we ask you to forgive this nation from all that we have done
against this faith. Grant by your infinite mercy that what is happening
today can be turned around for your glory!

May one of the good benefits that come from this be an increased
conversion and faith in you -- throughout our nation and all around the
world!

We ask this through Christ, our Lord. AMEN.

Mother Mary, pray for us! Pray for the conversion of all those who are
involved in this tragedy who still do not know your Son. Pray for our
protection. Through the strength and grace of God, may the forces of
evil be crushed beneath your heel.
All the best and God Bless,
God our Father, Almighty God, through Jesus Christ your Son, who defeated
evil in His death and resurrection, and in whose blood we pray, and in
the power and authority of the Holy Spirit, given to us in our Baptism,

Subject: America under attack

Dear Chandy, James and Jochen,

America had its worst tragedy last Tuesday. There are no words to describe
this horrendous attack on innocent people. New York is a cross section of the
world. We lost thousands of lives, people from all parts of the world,
including Malayalees. The terrorist plots are much wider than originally
expected and continued threat is imminent.

Today we observed a day of prayers. The nation is preparing for war against
terrorists, a decisive one. The Indian-American community is united to support
our President and hope to see a resolve.

Our immediate people ar ok; but we all are very disturbed and saddened by this
horror.

Regards,

Babu

[JOYnet] Fw: Under The Pera !!!!

2001-09-07 Thread jerryd

DEAR FRIENDS,

PLS GO THROUGH THIS CAREFULLY.

 Funny isn't it?

Funny how a $100 "looks" so big when you take it to church,
but so small when you take it to the mall.

Funny how long it takes to serve God for an hour,
but how quickly a team plays 60 minutes of basketball.

Funny how long a couple of hours spent at church are,
but how short they are watching a movie.

Funny how we can't think of anything to say when we pray,
but don't have difficulty thinking of things to talk about to a
 friend.

Funny how we get thrilled when a baseball game goes into extra
 innings,
but we complain when a sermon is longer than the regular time.

Funny how hard it is to read a chapter in the Bible,
but how easy it is to read 100 pages of a best selling novel.

Funny how people want to get a front seat at any game or concert,
but scramble to get a back seat at church services.

Funny how we need 2 or 3 weeks advance notice to fit a church event
 into our schedule,
but can adjust our schedule for other events at the last moment.

Funny how hard it is for people to learn a simple gospel well enough
 to tell others,
but how simple it is for the same people to understand and repeat
 gossip.

Funny how we believe what the newspapers say,
but question what the Bible says.

Funny how everyone wants to go to Heaven
provided they do not have to believe, or think, or say, or do
 anything.

Funny how you can send a thousand "jokes" through e-mail and they
 spread like wildfire,
but when you start sending messages regarding the Lord, people
 think twice about sharing.

 FUNNY, ISN'T IT?

Dear Jennifer,

I do not know you - neither did my sister Marina. But when she received your
request for prayer, she forwarded it just the same to all of us - her
relatives/friends.

Now she desperately needs your prayers. Marina fell in her basement, her head
hit the basement floor, and she suffered a severe injury. She has external
bleeding, but what is far worse, she has internal bleeding of the head. She
was admitted on Saturday 25th August into the ICU of a Toronto hospital (she,
her husband and son live in Scarborough) where she is receiving intensive
treatment.

This is a fervent plea for your prayers and those of your relatives and
friends. Marina is a lovely person, 65 years old, kind, loving, generous,
always reaching out to others. I know I can count on your prayers and those
of your near and dear.

Thank you. And God bless.

Shirley, Bandra, Mumbai.

[JOYnet] Fw: It hurts !

2001-08-25 Thread Manoj Sunny

Hello,

It hurts !

When I look at the joynet of the past two weeks it hurts !

When I see joynet being used as a platform to critisise others with out
expecting any good from it,over shooting all human respect with an apology
attached to each mail so any one can say anything against anyone , It hurts !

When I saw a mail sent to Eddychettan doubting his and Fr. Pallivathukkal's
"real intentions " , it hurt deeply ! Eddychettan is like my own elder brother
and Palliachan is like the father of my family ! I am sure that for many
joynetters it is the same !

When Joynet a platform of genuine fellowship and sharing, is continuously hit
with anonymous mails with out the sender revealing his true identity (as in a
dirty chat where one doesn't reveal oneself) and I see Giju and Mathew are
critisised for removing this ID from the joynet, It hurts ! I do think it is
Mathew's responsibility to correct such mails in an open forum like this.. I
was so shocked to see the responses to it personally insulting Mathew through
Joynet !

What was the purpose of those mails ? Very negatively crytisising every one
and every thing; from Bishops to Priests, rites, jy leaders etc...If it was
for some good, Is this is the way to do it ? Do you think this is the
Christian way of correcting some one? And why were the joynet members keeping
quiet ? This is awful !

And finally, Mr. Joshua Paul/ Donald D'cruz/ Matt John ( I know those are not
the original names- But we received the new subscription of Mr. Donald on 20th
- on the very day we unsubscribed Joshua; Mr. Donald writes from the same
computer -his first mail was with a forward of the auto responder for
unsubscribing Mr. Joshua telling about the busy schedule and honesty of his
friend .. WOW ! how can people think that all the other 500 are just fools !
And now , the latest entry as Matt John from the same IP) wrote :" its not
relevant my name, age, sex, qualifications"-- I don't think so..for a
community like joynet , it is important to know the person.. We are allowing
anyone to be a part of joynet with out any screening.. and we don't control
any of the mails so that it will reach 500 people directlyThe mission of
joynet is based on building the fellowship among joynet members ...I request
the joynet core to remove any ID immediately from the list if some one is
using a fake id..There will be another platform for those kind of people.. I
don't think the vision of joynet is the salvation of 'all the internet users
in the world'..At the same time, this is a small initiative to light a little
candle with all our limitations..Yes, we all know we want to do it in a better
way.. but when I look back,I am so happy to see the things happenings around
us by burning the midnight oil...I always thank God when I think about all who
are working for this ...and all of them are working with the same vision - to
build the Kingdom of God !

I think we need to formulate a Mission statement/ code of conduct for joynet
immediately

NB: Our dear Fr. Abraham Pallivathukal (whose ' intentions are doubted' by our
anonymous friend, inspite of his having invested the best part of his life for
Jesus Youth ) -was in hospital after a heart attack..He was in the ICU for 3
days and now he is back in his house in Calicut...He needs our prayers..

With lots of appreciation to all those who are working hard behind the curtain
for our website and Joynet,

Manoj Sunny (Animator, joynet core team), Kochi, India.

Dear Manoj,

Thanks for the mail you had forwarded me. Your programmes seems to be very
much powerful by the anointing of the Holy Spirit. I am glad that the people
who are in thirst for the Word of God is coming together through your
organisation. It is good.I hope the youth will work together with the church
in renewing our Lord's ministries. I think if they go deep into the doctrines
of the church they will be able to see the real beauty of our Universal
Church, the communion through which Jesus guides the world and lives.

I will keep you in my prayers

Your Excellency,
With profound gratitude, I want to thank you for the inspiring mail you
have sent to us !
Though thousands of people visited us during the past years (ours is one
of the first Catholic web sites in India; launched in 1996, officially
inaugurated in 97), this is the first time we are getting a response from a
Bishop..We know that as a person who has initiated many co-operative
movements, with excellent organisational and management skills and with the
experience of working at the grass root level knowing the hearts of the people
and now with the powerful Episcopal anointing to guide your flock, your
excellency can bring a lot of change in the Church and the society..

Through the web site, apart from the information part, we are trying to
minister to the people in two different ways - through our PrayerNet ( every
day we receive a lot of prayer requests and this is linked to our Intercession
ministry and other Prayer networks..) and through JOYNET. Joynet is a virtual
community (e-mail fellowship) in which we have around 500 members actively
participating (more than half from outside India)..This being the first
International Ministry of Jesus Youth, we found it an effective platform for
fellowship and discussion.. This is growing as a means for finding a Catholic
solution to the degeneration around us..

We are praying specially for you, your Excellency, so that you may listen
to the prompting of the Spirit and become more and more powerful day by day in
your Pastoral and administrative responsibilities.. We pray that your
"presence" will be a blessing not only to Kanjirappaly Diocese but also to the
Church in Kerala and India.

With lots of respect, appreciation and love,

Church

Subject: Testimony!

| Dear Brothers and Sisters,
|
| I would like to share my testimony with you of my job.
|
| Thanks Welchy for encouraging me to share it for the benefit of those who
are in desperate need of a Job.
|
| After I had completed my graduation, like all others, I was on a hunt for
a job. I got one as accounts assistance. I worked for 5 months but did not
enjoy work for a single moment. It was so boring. I was very restless. I
knew this was not my field. And the pay was equal to nothing. I prayed for
direction.
|
| Then a friend of mine, her name is Ancy, offered me a job at ICICI ltd. as
a phone-banking demonstrator. It was a temp job for 3 months. I learnt a
lot from it. I enjoyed it. Meeting with customers, talking with them, it
was completely different from my previous experience. After 3 months I did
not know what to do. Then I did my secretarial course for 6 months. Now I
had spent all what I had earned on this course. At the end of it I needed a
job because I just could not see myself sitting at home.
|
| Ancy would go to the House of Prayer (HOP) very often and I would
sometimes join her. We would have a powerful time praying. So one evening
we spent some time praying and I told her that I needed a job very badly. We
both prayed and then I thanked the Lord for giving me a job because I knew
by faith that He had given me the best job.
|
| I next day my mother and I went to a placement agency to drop in my CV,
but on reaching there we found out that that agency had closed long back. It
was disappointing. It was already late evening. I had only the tel. No. of
another placement agency, but was not quite sure I they would allow me to
come the same day. I thought another day wasted. But then I felt something
telling me to just call. I kept trying but could not get through. I gave up
hope. My mother prayed and asked me to try for the last time. And I got
through. I took their address and they asked me to come to same day. As
soon as we reached there, she interviewed me and asked me where I would
prefer to work. I always prayed that I should get a job at Worli, Mumbai.
She told me she had something for me. But she could not find the address of
the company. She took half an hour to search. And I was praying for her to
find it. I was also very nervous. At last she could find only the name of
the company and th!
| e !
| tel. No. and told me that it was at Worli. I was happy.
|
| I called the company the next day and fixed an appointment. The office
was not so big but a decent one. The boss looked at my CV and instead on
interviewing me, began explaining me the job. Then he said that he would
let me know the next day. I thought not the same reply again. But I left
it in Gods hand.
|
| I reached home by afternoon and received a call from the office saying
that I was selected and that I could start from the next day. I could not
believe my ears. I just thanked the Lord for His goodness.
|
| After I joined, I was told that out of almost about 100 candidates, I was
selected. I believe that it was God who did this for me. Now I am enjoying
this place. My boss is very understanding. And I got one thing that I never
asked for - holiday on a weekend. Yes I have to work only 6 days a week.
And now I even have free access to the internet. I really praise God for His
abundant blessing for me. And this is like a dream come true.
|
| I would like to encourage all of you who are in need of a job to trust in
the Lord for He knows and wants to give you the best. And when He gives, He
gives us not just what we ask but all of it in abundance, which we may have
never even dreamt of.

Urgent Press Release 29th JULY 2001

* Concern at new threats to Religious Freedom.

* Council legal aid for converts victimized by Orissa Police

* Govt. threatens draconian laws; VHP takes law in its own hands

[The following statement was issued in New Delhi and Hyderabad on Sunday,
29th July 2000 by All India Christian Council President Dr Joseph D'Souza
and Secretary General John Dayal in the wake of reports of draconian changes
in the Foreign Contributions regulation act, the Private members Bill in the
Lok Sabha against freedom of faith, the incidence of Vishwa Hindu Parishad
goons "arresting" Christian workers in Varanasi, the forcible
`re-conversion' of Orissa Christians under the combined pressure of the VHP
and the Orissa Police.]

The All India Christian Council calls upon Civil Society, the national Human
Rights Commission and fellow citizens to take united action to counter a
series of recent incidents in several Indian states by Fundamentalist
extremists of the Sangh Parivar, as well as by police forces acting at their
behest, in which the civil rights of Christian individuals and groups have
been violently attacked. The Council is deeply concerned that the central
and state governments, instead of taking urgent steps to restore confidence
among the terrorized minorities, have seemingly condoned such actions. The
Center is in fact, according to media reports, bringing forward legislation
that will further and more seriously affect religious minorities in the
country and their work, and injure Constitutional guarantees.

The Council has declared it will extend al legal assistance to the victims
who have been terrorized, specially in the states of Orissa, Gujarat, Uttar
Pradesh and Rajasthan.

The most ominous incident has taken place in Varanasi in the state of Uttar
Pradesh, where the state government controlled by the Bharatiya Janata party
has condoned military training with firearms provided to elements of the
Sangh Parivar in recent months. In that city on 24th July 2001, a Christian
religious worker was among five persons "detained" by self styled vigilantes
of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad. The five men had come to the city to attend a
meeting. The City Superintendent of Police, who had the five men released,
admitted they were innocent of the charges of conversion levied against
them. The police have however taken no action against the VHP goons who
terrorized the Christian group.

VHP groups are also terrorizing the inmates of an ashram in Kota district of
Rajasthan which is home to over 1,500 destitute and orphaned young people
from various parts of the country. Death threats have been made against
Bishop M A Thomas and officials of the Ashram. Many other similar cases
have been reported from other states.

In Orissa, ruled by a coalition in which the BJP is a partner, the police
have looked on while Tribal Christians are being coerced into `reconverting'
to Hinduism. The Police have evoked the infamous and ironically named
Freedom of Religion Act selectively against the Christians but not against
their tormentors. As the media has reported, 17 adult persons had some time
ago become Christians, and had told the police they had done so of their own
free will, without any duress or allurement. The police, acting at the
behest of local religio-political goons, however chose to prosecute them and
registered cases against them. Emboldened by this, the local fundamentalist
elements intimidated the Christians, organizing social ostracisation against
them. Reports suggest that the authorities tacitly supported the
"reconversion." The council has deplored the blatant religious partisanship
of the local police and civil administration.

It is quite clear that these elements are getting strengthened by the
attitude of the Central government. The minority communities, specially
Christians are alarmed, at the failure of the Central government to denounce
a Private Members bill moved by one of their party members in the Lok Sabha,
the lower house of Parliament, which seeks a ban on religious conversions,
which in affect means a ban on freedom of faith. This bill evoked dark
memories of a similar Hitlerian OP Tyagi Bill in the late Seventies which
the government, of which the current Bharatiya Janata party was a part, had
extended its support.

The council has also strongly criticized the government's reported plan to
enact new laws to strangle foreign donations and grants to minority,
specially Christian, institutions and organizations. The existing F

A little girl walked to and from school daily. Though the weather one
morning was questionable and clouds were forming, she made her daily
trek to the elementary school.

As the afternoon progressed, the winds whipped up along with thunder and
lightning. The mother of the little girl felt concerned that her
daughter would be frightened as she walked home from school and she
herself feared that the electrical storm might harm her child. Following
the roar of thunder, lightning, like a flaming sword, would cut through
the sky. Full of concern, the mother quickly got into her car and drove
along the route to her child's school.

As she did, she saw her little girl walking along, but at each flash of
lightning, the child would stop, look up and smile.

Another and another were to follow quickly and with each flash the
little girl would look at the streak of light and smile. When the
mother's car drew up beside the child, she lowered the window and called
to her,

"What are you doing? Why do you keep stopping?"

The child answered, "I am trying to look pretty. God keeps taking my
picture."

May God bless you today as you face the storms that come your way. And
... don't forget to SMILE!

Hi brother,

I am writing this to clear my confusion on something I have read in the bible
. In the bible when we read through 2 ESDRAS chpter 7, there we can see in
verses 29 which says "At the end of time my son Messiah and all human beings
will die".
what does this verse and to be more specific this chapter means. Dont you
think this is in contradiction to what we believe. Two importent points to be
noted here is that
(1) this is what the muslims believe about the end of age.
(2) other christians groups like the pentacosts does not have this book in
their bible

could you explain our church's view on this verses.
