[jQuery] Re: Script for tabs?

2009-10-18 Thread Bi Jing
Hi Lukas

If you have 10 tabs, for example:

tab1
tab2
tab3
...
tab10

Just add a class,'tab', inside each tab, and then you can use
$(".tab").click(function()) to bind the click function on each tab.

[jQuery] Why does slideUp set also set display: block?

2009-10-18 Thread Shhnap

Essentially, whenever I run the slideUp() function the css 'display'
property of that element is set to block. However this is not always
what I want; infact it is not what I want alot of the time and I have
taken to handling it via a callback function to clear the display
property but surely there is a nicer way to do this?

Anyway, my question is, why does the slide up function behave in this
manner?

Thanks,
Shhnap

[jQuery] easing 1.3 plugin how to implement pls?

2009-10-18 Thread jessie

Hi

I have fancybox lightbox installed and i wanted a different transition
effect. So i've installed the easing 1.3 plugin

I have read and re-read the instructions but i don't really understand
where i need to make the change for it to take effect.

Its all loading fine so there are no problems there.

Here is the instructions.
http://gsgd.co.uk/sandbox/jquery/easing/

Usage
Default
Choose a default easing method to overwrite the standard 'swing'
animation. The easing default is 'easeOutQuad', specify your own using
the following:
jQuery.easing.def = "string";
Where string is one of the equation names. The old swing function is
renamed to jswing.

U yes, and where do I make this change? And not sure I know what a
string is but I thought it would be any other easing function such as
‘easeInSine’ etc. no? but where exactly do I put it? am i suppose to
edit the plugin or have another js file with those commands?

Thanks
Jess

[jQuery] [Superfish] onMouseOut Change Text/Link Color Back - Issue

2009-10-18 Thread incognito

Hi group, and thank you for jQuery, it's great, you know that! :)

And Joel, thank you very much for the marvelous Superfish, it's a
very, very nice menu; I love the nav-bar variant!

I have a question (obviously):

I have a Nav-Bar, the background of the menu is in red while the links
are white, when I hover over it the scheme inverts e.g. red text on
white background. So far so good...
Now, when an item has a submenu, and I hover over it, it changes the
background-color (of the li-element) to white and the text (the a-tag)
to red and I move the mouse to the sublevel, the link-text changes
back to white, while the background remains white - indicating the
trail (successfully making the text invisible and leaving just a white
block).
The same happens with the subitem if it has another submenu and I
hover the mouse over the sub-sub-menu-items.
I was looking through the CSS for a long time and tried many different
things coming to the conclusion that effectively this might be
unsupported as of yet. Is this so? How would I go about keeping that
a:hover until another menu item from the same level is selected?

Which part of the code is responsible for that? Or is it CSS after
all?

Thank you in advance and sunny greetings!

[jQuery] Re: validation: preprocessing form fields ?

2009-10-18 Thread pike

apparenty not :-)

just for the record - i'm doing things like this:

jQuery.validator.addMethod(
"lowercase", function(value, element) {
jQuery(element).val(value.toLowerCase());
return true;
},""
)

which i can then apply in validation like

var validator = $("#myform").validate({
rules: {
"myfield": "lowercase"
}
})

clearly, thats not really validation, but the issue is it needs to be
executed right before other validation, at the same moments
interfacewise ...

[jQuery] JQuery smooth anchor scrolling - modify to fadein once in position?

2009-10-18 Thread Justin S. Meyers

This is the second time I've posted this. It didn't show up the first
time, so apologies for a possible duplicate in post.

At any rate, I am wanting to mod this jquery smooth scroll to anchor
so that it fades in once in position.

Farthest I've gotten has been that some how within the procedure,
"onAfter().fadein" should be added. Nothing in that vain has worked.

Anyone possibly entertain this newbie question?

[jQuery] Re: what does this selector mean ?

2009-10-18 Thread Michael Geary
Yes, in fact the snippet you posted shows why $(context).find(selector) is
faster. $(selector,context) *calls* $(context).find(selector). By calling
$(context).find(selector) directly, you avoid this extra call and the checks
that lead to it. Therefore, $(context).find(selector) is faster by a very
small constant amount.

The improved readability is the more important point. $(selector,context) is
backwards from the normal parent-child order in CSS selectors, and it isn't
self-documenting the way $(context).find(selector) is.

There's no reason for $(selector,context) to exist at all, except for
backwards compatibility with jQuery code written in 2006. It should be
deprecated.

[jQuery] Re: Cycle plugin: centering images of variable width?

2009-10-18 Thread Mike Alsup

A better way to approach this is to wrap the images in divs and then
cycle the divs. You can then count on it working correctly for all
the transition effects.

[jQuery] Anybody knows how to do a jcarousel vertical with autoscrolling?

2009-10-18 Thread marcello

Hello guys!!!

I am a beginner here with JQuery and recently discovered this jquery
plugin. I found it very useful for what I'm looking for.

I need a circular jcarousel like this :
http://sorgalla.com/projects/jcarousel/examples/special_circular.html

Merged with an autoscrolling jcarousel like this :
http://sorgalla.com/projects/jcarousel/examples/static_auto.html.

It's easy to do with horizontal jcarouselbut what about vertical
carousel??? (The last one is the one that I'm interested ).

I don't know if it's some kind of bugbut I cannot make it work in
vertical mode.

Somebody could help me with some advice or telling me what I'm doing
wrong???

Thanks for advance!!

Cheers

[jQuery] Best way to capture/highlight multiple html elements?

2009-10-18 Thread 3stripe

Hey folks, I'm a noob so go easy on me, and thanks for reading.

I'm writing a bookmarklet which allows you to select various elements
from a page and save them to your own personal blog (a bit like
ound or the Wordpress PressIt feature)

The user will select 3 parts from the page they want to save:

1) Title (easy, just detect a click on an html element and make sure
it's a span/p/h1/h2/h3 etc)
2) Image (i've figured this out too)
3) Body text

I'm stuck with grabbing the body text - I think it should be selected
manually, as it could consist of multiple p's and div's, or even table
rows, depending on how badly the source page has been coded.

When the use has selected the text, it should be highlighted somehow
using css — looking at
http://groups.google.com/group/jquery-en/browse_thread/thread/6dbbfd9cafd98cf6,
I know that getSelection won't work, but I'm not sure what to do
exactly...?

Any tips on how to sequence these 3 steps into something user-friendly
would also be much appreciated, I was thinking maybe using Growl-like
notifications to guide the user through the process...

Cheers.

Faster? aren't they just equivalent?

according to the comments in the library file they are

} else
return jQuery( context ).find( selector );
