That's great, but in my situation, I may run into problems with my 3rd party JDBC. But other than that, I'm happy with the great feedback! RE: JRun on Windows 2000 server
We have not had problems with JRUN and Windows 2000 working together, BUT we did have problems with JRUN under Win 2000's working with our third party tools, such as our JDBC driver. For some reason, JRUN could not obtain a connection inside of the connection manager wizard with our third party driver under Win 2000. Under WinNT 4.0 we had no problems. The vendor of the driver went out of business 2 weeks into this issue, so even though we did turn in a tech support bug report, we never obtained any assistance in trying to resolve the issue. Make sure that you test your web site under Win 2000 on a second server machine BEFORE you convert your whole system over, particularly if you are using a suite of third party tools inside of your JSP pages. We ended up moving our server back to Windows NT 4.0 until the end of this year, at which time we will look into purchasing another JDBC driver and revising our JSP pages accordingly. RE: JRun on Windows 2000 server: Linux far more stable ???
I don't want turn this in to a Sun VS. Microsoft/Intel debate, but I do feel that I must point out a few diffrences. Sun hardware is always more expensive than Microsoft/Intel, nobody will argue that. Part of that could be due to volume discounts. But it is important to realize that solaris(sun's unix os) is very stable and scales extremly well up to 64 microprocessors. I believe that Sun is really trying to crack into the mainframe arena with their products with some success. In short, Microsoft has made a much better product than past attempts, but when you need more horse power under the hood, Sun or HP make great mid to upper range servers. Of course the ultimate big engine still is the mainframe(if you can afford them). Dave ~~ Structure your ColdFusion code with Fusebox. RE: JRun on Windows 2000 server: Linux far more stable ???
I don't agree that Linux is *far more* stable than Windows 2000. I believe windows 2000 stability to be far superior than Microsoft has ever produced before. We are building huge telecomm systems using EJBs, Servlets and they are being deployed on windows 2000 just to get the best price/performance ratio possible. Nothing against Sun, but they rip you off with their ultra-expensive low performing quad 450 MHz servers. Had they spend more time concentrating on increasing the performance of their CPUs and servers instead of buying politicians in capitol hill, they might have accomplished little bit more. Now all they do is just whine and whine ... against Microsoft :-) building real-time communication on windows 2000 is just a simple testament to the stability of win 2k and people designing these systems are real-world engineers and architects, not some windows/microsoft/billgates bashing Linux fanatics. RE: JRun on Windows 2000 server
Great to hear Actually it was recommended to me that I order my machines with NT first, then the NT guys will migrate it up from NT to 2000. So, I won't hesitate for them to migrate up my web server application. Thanks for the feedback!
