Problems Getting Started with JSP 1.0 RI (was: Re: JavaServer Pages 1.0 Public Release)

1999-06-10 Thread Connie Weiss

JSPers,

We are very, very sorry for the difficulty in ease-of-use in this
release of JSP. The team is closely monitoring the list and will be
fixing the problems as quickly as possible. Please stay tuned and we'll
have something to you shortly after JavaOne.

Thanks for the support this group has given to those just getting started
on JSP. With improvements to usability, we hope the list can stay as one
forum that is useful for all participants.

Thanks,

Connie

Yes, we realized this would be a good thing to do, but couldn't get the
content in place in time for the launch. It's one of the first updates we
will do with the site.

Thanks,

Connie

JavaServer Pages 1.0 Public Release

1999-06-02 Thread Connie Weiss

We are more than pleased to let you know that JavaServer Pages 1.0 is
now in public release and is officially launched!

Yeah

Below is the press release for your reading pleasure. Also, please
stop by java.sun.com to check our our front page blurb, and be sure to visit
the full, new website at java.sun.com/products/jsp.

We are delighted and proud of the huge support we have for this technology,
from dedicated developers like yourselves to the wide-range of industry
players.

We think there's something for everyone in this new website. We'll be keeping
it up-to-date with new information and will post to the list when something
we think will be of interest to you gets posted. Also, let us know your ideas
for content you'd like to see covered that may not yet be there.

*Thank you* for your insight and support! We couldn't have done it without
you!

SUN UNVEILS JAVASERVER PAGES (TM) TECHNOLOGY

Sun announces the immediate availability of JavaServer Pages (TM)
technology, which for the first time allows Web page developers to
easily build cross-platform, truly interactive Web sites.

Harnessing the full power of the Java(TM) platform, JavaServer Pages
technology separates the functions of content generation and page
layout, providing developers with a simplified and more efficient way
to create server-generated Web pages that combine content from a wide
variety of enterprise data sources. Because JavaServer Pages technology
encapsulates much of the functionality required to generate "dynamic,"
or constantly changing, content, Web page developers can concentrate on
the "look" and display of the site without the need for application
development expertise.

Developed in collaboration with industry leaders in the enterprise
software and tools markets (see quote addendum for industry support),
the JavaServer Pages technology is available for free download beginning
today. An early access reference implementation is available via the
Java Developer Connection(SM) program, or, for more information, users
can access http://java.sun.com/products/jsp.

Repost: JSP 1.0 specification is now in Public Review!

1999-04-30 Thread Connie Weiss

reposting reply to Daniel's message - don't know what happened to the
ened to the
first one...

-

Yes, the "blurb" on java.sun.com being worked right now - we wanted to
get everything pushed first, then do the splash on the site.

BTW, the specification is in public review for 30 days. Once the public
review is complete, we'll review and incorporate feedback as we can, then
it will be posted as final (FCS).

The JSP team will then move directly to working on the 1.1 specification
to further flesh out the JSP story.

Hope this helps.

The reference implementation will follow very shortly, and we'll let you
know as soon as it is available (even sooner than "real soon now" :).

Thanks to everyone who has hung in there and supported us as we put this
together. We look forward to receiving comments from all our JSP partners.

The JSP team needs your help!

1999-02-23 Thread Connie Weiss

To anyone who has used the JSP .92 spec:

As you know, we are working hard on JSP 1.0 as well as
subsequent releases of JSP. We'd like to get your insight
regarding our efforts.

We'd appreciate it if you could take 10-15 minutes in the
next few days (before Thursday, February 25th) to
complete the following JSP questionnaire. We assure
complete confidentiality.

Your feedback is extremely valuable to us, and who knows,
you might get some free PR out of it!

Re: What kind of dialog do developers really have with SUN?

1999-02-22 Thread Connie Weiss

The next specification will be a 1.0 candidate. That means that we believe
we have enough confidence in the specification in its development so far
(.92 and earlier releases) to propose this one as a final candidate,
pending public comment.

So, yes, you can consider this to be a 1.0 beta as you wrote below since
it will be open for public comment.

Re: What kind of dialog do developers really have with SUN?

1999-02-22 Thread Connie Weiss

Dan,

First of all, I apologize for not being able to keep up with all the mail
that is posted on this list. After my posting, I did, and continue to, respond
to every message that has been sent to me directly. Most of the comments I
received were positive. Some were concerned that we were coming out late.

What I can assure you is that we are working with everything we've got to
get this specification ready for public commment. That is when you, the
developer community, will be able to review and give us your full feedback.
While we do monitor this list, we are not able to respond to every post.
Again, it is a trade off between this and getting what you really want,
the specification and reference implementation, out the door.

We do value your input and look forward to receiving your comments as soon as
we can get to you a specification that we think will help you in the work
you are doing.

Hang with us, we think you'll like what's coming...
