[plasmashell] [Bug 341143] Wallpaper on every desktop is gone.

2016-01-03 Thread Nathanael Schilling via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=341143

>Seem 's kde-dev David is working on this bug

If I'm not mistaken, he's working on making activities more compatible
with kwin (he mentions an "activity pager"). Which is nice, but I wonder
whether or not this will actually work with compositing or not. Cynical
me suspects that we will not get actual compositing with this but that
the end result will be manipulations of still images rather than actual
compositing (i.e. if there is a desktop cube with activities and you are
watching a video, you won't see the video move while you rotate). I
remember plenty of programs like that from the compiz era, and all of
them sucked. If the devs go as far as to reinvent virtual desktops
(which I hope), then maybe the stuff that the kde-dev is working on will
solve this bug though.

[krunner] [Bug 344328] krunner is not visible when using multiple monitors

2016-01-03 Thread GSC via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=344328

I have external monitor tiled above my laptop monitor. When I click alt-f2 when
the cursor is in my laptop monitor a small corruption on the top left area of
the external monitor would show and disappear immediately, as if krunner tries
to show but failed, and I can input things and press enter to launch
applications. When I click alt-f2 when the cursor is in the external monitor
the krunner windows shows up properly at the center of the top. After a restart
of krunner the problem seems to be gone, though.

Very unlikely, On Wayland this is not needed and on X11 we think to already
provide more suited solutions like turning compositing off. The comparison to
Compiz/Unity or Mutter/GNOME just doesn't hold as those don't provide the
functionality to turn compositing off.

[kmail2] [Bug 357464] New: Reply to sender should be default (+passive popup)

2016-01-03 Thread Tuukka Verho via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=357464

Bug ID: 357464
Summary: Reply to sender should be default (+passive popup)
   Product: kmail2
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Ubuntu Packages
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: composer
  Assignee: kdepim-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: tuukka.ve...@aalto.fi

KMail should reply to sender by default instead of replying to the list. When
replying to a message sent to a list, there should be a passive popup offering
the option to reply to the list.

Reproducible: Always

When replying to a list mail, there are two possibilities:

A) The user wants to participate in a discussion, and the recipient should be
the list. This is probably common among free software developers, but
relatively rare among general population. Most people don't engage in mailing
list discussions a lot.

B) The user responds to an inquiry sent to a list, such as 'to sign up, reply
to this message with your details'. The recipient should be the sender, because
the list may have tens or hundreds of recipients. This use case is common in
work environments and all areas of life. This should be the default IMO.

The current default is not appropriate for the following reasons:

1) Nonstandard. Other mail applications that I'm aware of reply to sender by
default. The unexpected behavior is made worse by the fact that it is easy to
not notice the wrong recipient until too late.

2) The way of maximal embarrassment. It is always awkward to sent a message to
the wrong recipient, but sending a 'I want to join, my info is ...' (or
something worse) to tens or hundreds of people is a whole different level of
embarrassing.

Good software won't make it's user loose his/her face. I've used KMail for a
long time and I eventually learned this behavior after several mistakes, but
that doesn't stop me from occasionally forgetting about it and sending a stupid
mail to all my colleagues. I strongly feel the default should be changed. A
passive popup to alert the user about the choice of recipient should be also
provided.

Currently i migrated from courier to dovecot (seems to work) but
this is also defenetly massive an akonadi/kmail bug because.

No external service like courier-imap should produce so massive problems by
working with Kontact (Suite). After some minutes akonadi stop to work and
makes kontact including calendar/todos unusable and need to be restarted like
killall -9 kontact; akonadictl stop; akonadictl start.
KMail (akonadi_imap) should don't influence other services.

Status: RESOLVED FIXED is not correct.

Hi there,

When copying large files to an nfs4 drive mounted as async the copying
notification plasmoid freezes, cpu maxes out, dolphin freezes, write speed in
the copying notification is incorrect and then disappears.

This can be worked around by mounting as sync in fstab but this has slower read
/ writes. Can the async behaviour be fixed? In other desktop environments
mounting as the default option async is not an issue.

*strangely if it is mounted as async copying files over from the nfs drive to
laptop does not seem to be a problem. Even the copy speed within the copying
notification is correct.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. mount nfs4 drive as async on wireless laptop connection
2. copy large file to nfs drive
3.

Please ignore my second paragraph. After some sleep, I realised that I had
omitted the first character (the "!") when copy/pasting into a file for
testing.

So, we're back at square 1. Your file loads here, but not on Windows 4.7.2.
Are you able to try 4.7.1? I think you indicated it may have the same problem,
but, I'd like to confirm.

Are you able to provide a file that works, and another that doesn't work for
you?

Otherwise, I'm afraid we're waiting for the next stable release. This may not
be too long, I hope.

2016-01-03 Thread via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=348156

Wayland won't be mainstream until some more months or years for some distros.
There is no feature in Kwin to say "disable compositing for all windows except
these one" too. I prefer the unredirected windows thing than totally disabling
compositing (plasma need to "restart/reload" or something like that).

Anyway I'm again frustrated by the open source devs. You can't help the open
source world by proposing useful features that will make the softs better. The
devs do only what they want without giving a shit of what users needs (eg.
different wallpapers for virtual desktops, systray icons, plasma slow as hell
to load, kcalc, konsole that keep running in background, blurry wallpapers,
etc...).

Sorry Martin my rant is not against you particularly and I'm thankful for the
incredible work you and others already make but it's so frustrating that devs
far too often say you WONTFIX. It's like you are saying "I DONT GIVE A SHIT".

[frameworks-kwindowsystem] [Bug 356909] Virtual desktop switcher shows minimized windows when setting "Keep window thumbnails" to "Always" in KWin

2016-01-03 Thread Alexander Schlarb via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=356909

> There is nothing we can do about that in Pager and or taskbar.
Yes, there *is* something you can do:
You can check for "_NET_WM_STATE_HIDDEN". That's why you set that atom, right?

> When selecting "Always" a message pops up telling you that this option
> interferes with the minimized state of the window. One of the results is that
> a window is considered to not be minimized.
Also "interferes with the minimized state of windows" tells me: The window
might continue to draw/render/… while it's minimized, not that the pager will
*incorrectly* report it as not being minimized.

Please, revise your decision, thanks.

Yes, "xembedsniproxy" is running, and seems to be the process the "squares"
belongs to, as using ctrl+alt+esc on the "squares" kills "xembedsniproxy".
Restarting it fixes the issue.

[dolphin] [Bug 357469] New: Open executable file: better distinguish Open from Execute

2016-01-03 Thread Gregor Mi via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=357469

Bug ID: 357469

Execute
   Product: dolphin

  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED

When an executable file is clicked there is a dialog with the following
options: "Open", "Execute", "Cancel" which I find very useful.

There is a minor nag: the term "Open" is often used in the sense of "opening or
starting a program or script" which is the opposite of what the button actually
means.

I suggest to rename the "Open" button to "View / Edit".

[plasmashell] [Bug 346181] K menu, context menus, system tray popups not displayed (or displayed off-screen) after an external monitor is plugged in

2016-01-03 Thread Ian Morgan via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=346181

I found my problem, and it's incredibly stupid. I also can't believe that in
all my quests to find a solution over the last 3+ months, nobody ever thought
to ask "are tooltips turned on?".. !!!

The closest I had come before was someone asking if the "Show Tooltips" option
was turned on ** in Task Manager Settings **.. which it was. And that setting
wouldn't explain why no tooltips would show up for ANY panel item, unrelated to
Task Manager.

Drum roll, please

System Settings -> Workspace/Desktop Behaviour -> Workspace/Workspace Behaviour
-> Show Informational Tips

ARGH!!! All this time, and it was a goddamned option that was turned off!

Problem solved.. Good-day gentlemen.

Recommendation: In the Task Manager settings, grey-out or disable the "Show
tooltips" option (with a hint saying why it's disabled) if the global "Show
Informational Tips" option is turned off.

A related question: In what file is the "Show information tips" option setting
stored? One of the things I had done to try to resolve this issue was to wipe
all my kde/qt settings files/folders and start fresh, yet that made no
difference. Is the fresh-start default for this option on or off? I expect that
on would be the default.

[plasmashell] [Bug 357470] New: Pop-up calendar displays wrong week number for December 2020

2016-01-03 Thread Karl Ove Hufthammer via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=357470

Bug ID: 357470
Summary: Pop-up calendar displays wrong week number for
December 2020
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 5.5.1
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Calendar
  Assignee: mklape...@kde.org
  Reporter: k...@huftis.org
CC: plasma-b...@kde.org

The calendar that pops up when one clicks the clock widget shows the week
number of the last week in December 2020 as week 1. This is wrong. It should be
week 53 (just like for December 2015, which *is* correctly displayed).
Currently both the *last week* of 2020 and the *first week* of 2021 is shown as
week 1.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Click the clock icon to show the calendar.
2. Click the current month name to zoom out and then the year number to zoom
out further.
3. Click 2020 and the December.

Actual Results:
The last week of December 2020 is shown as having week number 1.

Expected Results:
The last week of December 2020 should be shown as having week number 53.

This problem may occur for other dates too; I have not done any extensive
tests.

Note that having 1 as the week number for the week with the last day(s) of a
year is not *necessarily* wrong. For example, the week number for this ‘last
week’ is 1 for 2019, 53 for 2020 and 52 for 2021. (KDE displays the correct
week number for 2019 and 2021.)

Information on calculation of the correct week numbers can be found at
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_week_date

The correct calendar for 2020 can be seen at
http://www.timeanddate.com/calendar/?year=2020

Or one may just use the command-line ‘cal’ utility included by default in most
Linux distros. Here’s the command for showing December 2020 and January 2021:

cal -n2 -w 12 2020

2016-01-03 Thread Arran via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=341143

Just back from a very wet and rainy Scotland Highland (mostly indoors) week. We
all had laptops and I convinced three friends to change to KDE (Kubuntu 4.04).
1
Windows, 1 Fedora and one Ubuntu users.
The deciding USP's I used were the various Desktop backgrounds (all three),
KMyMoney (1), digiKam (1). The big runner was definitively the different
backgrounds.
I told them all about the present situation of incertainity and to have to use
the
14.04 LTS and explained in depth the use of the PPA system. 3 more were sort of
interested, but a bit disappointed that with Plasma 5 it will no longer be
available; I think they will not change. The last 3 did were happy with what
they
had. Altogether we had 4 Linux, four Windows and 2 Apples (unsurprisingly for
me
none of them wants to change).

[dolphin] [Bug 357471] New: Dolphin opens .desktop files in Kate

2016-01-03 Thread Peter Roots via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=357471

Bug ID: 357471
Summary: Dolphin opens .desktop files in Kate
   Product: dolphin
   Version: 15.08.2
  Platform: Kubuntu Packages
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: dolphin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: peterro...@gmail.com

I first noticed this when in the remote:/ folder and clicked on the 'add
network folder' icon - this opened as a file in Kate rather than opening the
Add Network Folder wizard. In searching for a solution I found this
http://askubuntu.com/questions/694809/add-network-folder-in-dolphin-opens-libreoffice
I have since noticed that any .desktop file does this rather than open the
program it is for (Abiword or Xine for example)

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Browse to a folder in Dolphin
2. Left click on any desktop application file
3.

Actual Results:
Kate opens with the content of the .desktop file

Expected Results:
the program specified in the file under Exec= . should open rather than
Kate

I have compared the settings in Dolphin and in File Associations for the
application group and application/x-desktop and can see no difference between
my Kubuntu 15.10 and a Mint17 system that works as expected.
On both my Kubuntu and Mint set up Kate is the first option available to open
desktop files from a right click

[plasmashell] [Bug 357474] New: Centering oversized wallpaper should crop instead of scale.

2016-01-03 Thread via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=357474

Bug ID: 357474
Summary: Centering oversized wallpaper should crop instead of
scale.
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 5.5.0
  Platform: Fedora RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Image Wallpaper
  Assignee: notm...@gmail.com
  Reporter: naot@blit.ninja
CC: plasma-b...@kde.org

If the resolution of a wallpaper image exceeds the display's resolution, the
wallpaper image should be cropped from the center instead of scaled to fit the
display.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Set wallpaper to an image that is bigger than the display resolution.
2. Set positioning to 'Centered'.
3. Apply.

Actual Results:
Wallpaper is scaled to fit the desktop without cropping. The background color
fills in the empty space.

Expected Results:
Wallpaper should be centered on the desktop without scaling. Any side that
exceeds the display should be clipped while the empty space is filled with the
background color.

The current behavior is redundant since setting positioning to 'Scaled, Keep
Proportions' gives the same results.

The new behavior would also match GNOME Shell and MS Windows 'Centered'
wallpaper settings.

By default when an executable file (*.desktop) is opened a popup is displayed:

"What do you wish to do with this executable file?"
"Open" "Execute" "Cancel"
This popup window has a "Don't ask again" checkbox.

I think that on your sistem (or Kubuntu) the "Open" selection is chosen by
default. I'm not sure how can you reset the way behaviour.

[krusader] [Bug 357478] New: Option to follow symbolic links when copying

2016-01-03 Thread Róbert Čerňanský via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=357478

Bug ID: 357478
Summary: Option to follow symbolic links when copying
   Product: krusader
   Version: 2.4.0-beta3 "Single Step"
  Platform: unspecified
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: m...@fork.pl
  Reporter: ope...@tightmail.com

Consider a use case when a user copies a symbolic link to a removable media.
In many cases it does little sense to copy the link itself because when media
is used in another device the link becomes invalid. There is no option how to
copy the content of the target file in Krusader when copying a link.

Still there are cases when user might wish to copy the link itself - for
example if it is relative and points into the copied tree. Another use case is
when the user wants to make a backup, i. e. mirror the source tree as is.

Both use cases are equally valid and yet Krusader supports only the latter.

Reproducible: Always

Expected Results:
There should be an option to "follow" symbolic links while copying. Probably
the best place would be the "copy dialog".

   Product: dolphin
   Version: 15.12.0
  Platform: Archlinux Packages

Status: UNCONFIRMED

After I close the splitscreen, and the closed part was focused before closing,
and changing the view, the application crashes. I think it tries to change the
view of the closed side, because the bug does not appear if the closed part of
the splitscreen wasn't focused.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Splitscreen on
2. Click on the new appeared side
3. Close splitscreen
4. Change the view mode

Actual Results:
Dolphin crashes with a short delay

Expected Results:
View is changed correctly, so it just shouldnt crash.

Update, in case it's of any use:
 - XMPP started working again after a reboot
 - I tried connecting to my accounts with a new KDE profile. Also to no avail.
Still no Google, ICQ or Telegram. This shows that at least the problems are not
related to old KDE config files.

For what it is worth, I have the same problem.

I have a desktop pc with two monitors. If I boot with the dual monitors
activated, then the main panel is frozen e.g. the application launcher does not
work, the tool-tips appear in random places if at all, the 'show hidden icons'
button does nothing, the 'usb device' button does nothing. Also 'Alt-F2' does
not open the 'plasma search' window.

If I use one monitor, everything is OK.

I'm using Kubuntu 15.10. I have applied all 'apt-get' upgrades to date.

I forgot to mention: If I boot using a single monitor and then switch to a dual
monitor configuration, everything is OK.
I have an 'application launcher' widget on the desktop. This always works.
If I boot using a dual monitor configuration, the main panel is frozen but I
can use the 'application launcher' widget on the desktop to switch to a single
monitor configuration and then everything is OK again.

[kmail2] [Bug 357481] New: KMail doesn't honor the "always sign with GPG" flag in idendity when replying

2016-01-03 Thread Christian Boltz via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=357481

Bug ID: 357481
Summary: KMail doesn't honor the "always sign with GPG" flag in
idendity when replying
   Product: kmail2
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: crypto
  Assignee: kdepim-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: kde-b...@cboltz.de

KMail 4.14.10 on KDE 4.14.14 on openSUSE Tumbleweed

In one of my idendities, I have set my PGP key and enabled the "Automatically
sign messages" option. Also, I have assigned that idendity for one IMAP account
and selected a folder inside that account.

When writing a _new_ message, the editor opens with the "Sign message" button
pre-selected - as expected. Good.

However, when I reply to a message, the editor always opens with the "Sign
message" button _not_ selected. Bad. This even happens when replying to signed
mails, which enables the "Sign message" button in other folders if using an
idendity without the "Automatically sign message" setting. Bad again.

Reproducer:
- setup an idendity with "Automatically sign messages" and your GPG key
- assign that idendity to an IMAP account (assigning to a folder might be
enough)
- store at least two mails in that folder, one GPG-signed, one not signed.
- reply to both mails
- in the mail editor, check if the "Sign message" button is pre-selected

Expected behaviour:
The mail editor should have the "Sign message" button pre-selected because of
the idendity settings (remember: the idendity has "Automatically sign message"
set)

...for what my opinion can count I don't know nothing about what technology
lead activity or multiple desktop, but, I love multiple desktop with different
background as they behave like in KDE 4 and I use it productively, so, as in
Italy says "franza o spagna basta che se magna" activity or multiple desktop,
the important is that I can have different background and all the other
features as today in KDE4.
..hope that the devs think that these features are more important than others

Michael, do you think you could fix this issue in a way that would allow KDE to

Ah that is a good avenue to pursue - my touch pad is a bit over enthusiastic
and I find the mouse pointer jumps about rather too easily. I did not notice
such a pop up but it is possible that one popped and and was gone before I
noticed as brushing the touch pad accepted the default option.
So just need to find where that setting is saved.
Thanks for the info, that is very useful

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=341143

First to the developers; thanks. You have devised an OS like to use on my
primary, most stressed, computer. Thanks. Again, Thanks.
Now to everyone else: Back off a little. A free OS that just works. It doesn't
take the almost daily tweaking that goes with my Windows machines. State your
case, without the threats and slurs.
MORE: Does anyone remember if Ver. 4 allowed Screen Savers? It seems so to me,
but I'm not going to back up just to research it.
This morning I had the bright idea to set up one of my 'activities' (I have 4
and 2 Virtual desktops for each) to have a screensaver. I was thinking, "look
at the pretty picture, then just wriggle the mouse and check my email."
So, my qx: Is screensavers another feature that was deprecated in Ver.5?
(Though this is probably not the place to ask that question)

[plasmashell] [Bug 357482] New: Plasma5 crashes when initially switching VPN servers.

2016-01-03 Thread Rewarp via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=357482

Bug ID: 357482
Summary: Plasma5 crashes when initially switching VPN servers.
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 5.4.3
  Platform: openSUSE RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Keywords: drkonqi
  Severity: crash
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: k...@davidedmundson.co.uk

Qt Version: 5.5.1
Operating System: Linux 4.3.3-2-default x86_64
Distribution: "openSUSE Tumbleweed (20151229) (x86_64)"

-- Information about the crash:
The crash appears to be a direct result of the KDE Wallet request for its
password from the initial switching off of the VPN connection.

1. After disabling the VPN connection, KDE Wallet pops up and requests the
password.
2. Connection to a new VPN is initiated which results in a momentary crash of
Plasma 5. 3. Connection is however, successfully established after automated
restart of Plasma 5.
4. Subsequent request for switching VPN servers are establiushed without issue.

The crash can be reproduced sometimes.
