this is not as simple as it sounds and there are also concerns how syncing

[kwin] [Bug 443872] New: Inconsistent adaptive sync behavior in KWin Wayland session

2021-10-16 Thread Shmerl
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=443872

Bug ID: 443872
Summary: Inconsistent adaptive sync behavior in KWin Wayland
session
   Product: kwin
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Debian testing
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: wayland-generic
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: shtetl...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

I just tried Plasma 5.23.0 (built for Debian testing) since it has a number of
major Wayland related bugs fixed, and noticed a problem with adaptive sync.

When running Cyberpunk 2077 game (Wine-staging + vkd3d-proton), framerate
hovers around 70-85 fps in the game for me. Monitor's built in refresh rate
meter shows that adaptive sync is working (most of the time it indeed matches
the framerate fluctuating around 70-85 Hz), but it also periodically jumps to
144 Hz which looks strange, since Mesa HUD which I use with the game to compare
never shows framerate jumping that high and it's my monitor's limit.

In X11 Kwin session I don't see such behavior in the same place in the game and
monitor's built in meter never shows such spikes in refresh rate.

Configuration details:

* Plasma / KWin: 5.23.0
* Display setting for adaptive sync: automatic.
* GPU: Sapphire Pulse RX 6800 XT.
* Display: LG 27GL850 (144 Hz, adaptive sync capable, DisplayPort connection).
* Wine-staging: 6.16 (the game runs in XWayland)
* Wayland: 1.19.0
* XWayland: 1.20.11
* Kernel / amdgpu: 5.14.12
* Mesa: recent main build - 22.0.0-devel (git-d31ca63527)

I use krunner a lot for simple calculations and then pressing [enter] to copy
the result, but when using decimals (dot) and division (slash) it prioritize
the Location plugin. So for an input like "123.4/5", the first choice is
"https://123.0.0.4/5;, which is a very inconvenient choice to press [enter] by
reflex. The only work around I found was disabling the Location plugin.

SUMMARY

It'd be great to have an option for docks to appear on all monitors. Although
it is possible to duplicate a dock and then move the duplicate to another
monitor, this unlinks their configuration meaning that changes to one won't
affect the other. What I'm proposing is that as well as having explicit screen
configurations as well as a follow primary screen, it'd be cool to have an "all
screens" option so that the dock or panel would appear on all screens that are
available. See screenshot for where I'd imagine this option would go.

It's a crash due to a Qt exception generated by a uses of an empty Qt list. It
miss a check before to use this empty container. It's easy to fix if we can see
where the test is missing in code.

Run the appimage from a console under GDB with the "debug" argument. When crash
appear, enter "bt" to get the bactrace. Note : you need to use the debug
version of 7.4.0 devel appimage bundle (file is more heavy and available at the
same place than the non debug version)

following on the terminal

unknown: ASSERT failure in QList::at: "index out of range", file

this only happens when changing the rating to non-zero (ctrl-0 or setting
rating to zero stars is unaffected). It seems to happen on both CR3 raws and
JPEGs.

Updating pick labels and tag metadata works as per normal.

EXPECTED RESULT

No crash, metadata happily written to image file or sidecar as appropriate.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=443862

Bug ID: 443862
Summary: Position trace mishandles diagonal movements
   Product: systemsettings
   Version: 5.23.0
  Platform: Neon Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal

Created attachment 142517

Video of the bug

SUMMARY
The position trace at the Joystick KCM doesn't know the concept of diagonal
movements. When two joystick axis events arrive at the same time
(js_event->time) those events should be joined into a single [X,Y] coordinate
and not incorrectly handled as two separate axis-aligned events as the KCM
currently does.

This bug manifests itself as an ugly staircase-like pattern on the tracing
widget.

2021-10-16 Thread Sam Edwards
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=422111

No worries, I figured as much. :)

Small update: I switched to a new laptop recently, and even when booting the
exact same disk image, the problem doesn't happen for me at all anymore. I
still have the old laptop for trying out patches, but I can't troubleshoot this
problem quite as easily now.

This new laptop has 16 (logical) processors while the previous had 4. I'm
wondering if this race only happens when all N threads used by KDE startup are
forced to use a smaller set of processors (everybody else who has reported this
has 8 or 4 processors). It might be worthwhile to try taking 12 of my
processors offline and restarting KDE to see if that brings the race back.

[plasmashell] [Bug 443860] New: KDE logouts/locks PC/consoles when screen locker is deselected

2021-10-16 Thread David Chmelik
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=443860

Bug ID: 443860
Summary: KDE logouts/locks PC/consoles when screen locker is
deselected
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 5.23.0
  Platform: Neon Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: critical
  Priority: NOR
 Component: generic-crash
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: dchme...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: 1.0

SUMMARY

We've deselected the screen locker (always do as part of an installation/setup)
but after some period of time, KDE logs out my user (we don't want this to
happen) and locks the PC including consoles. Because of that we have to reboot
frequently.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Deselect screen locker.
2. Leave PC unattended for a while.
3. PC logs out, locks including consoles.

OBSERVED RESULT

KDE logs out user and locks PC including consoles, meaning you can't even
Fn to them anymore.

EXPECTED RESULT

DON'T log out the user if they deselected locker!

Additionally, it would be nice if the lowest 5% were done by
increments/decrements of 1%. In a dark screen, 5% is too high and 0% is turned
off (actually, 1% is still a bit too high on this screen for my eyes, being
able to set 0.5% would be perfect).

My current workaround it to use the wheel on the battery icon (which does
increments of 1%), or setting the /sys/class/backlight/*/brightness file.

OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: android-application
  Assignee: albertv...@gmail.com

Often I want to send data from one android to another over wifi. I default to

kio_filenamesearch: fix crash due to KCoreDirLister changes

Error reporting was changed in KCoreDirlister, to match the original behaviour
we need to explicitly disable auto error handling.

This fixes a crash while searching in Dolphin, kio_filenamesearch intrenally
uses a dirlister, and a nested event loop, if there is an error while listing
some dir it tries to report it using a job ui delegate, but the parent job
could well be dead by that time, which causes a crash:
"QWidget: Cannot create a QWidget without QApplication"

Note that this crash only happens if KDE_FORK_SLAVES is _not_ set.

[systemsettings] [Bug 443855] New: Options to disable middle click paste, but keep middle mouse click

2021-10-16 Thread Bronson
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=443855

Bug ID: 443855
Summary: Options to disable middle click paste, but keep middle
mouse click
   Product: systemsettings
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: kcm_mouse
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: bronsonmath...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
I have several web apps that rely on middle mouse for panning and navigation.
However it always pastes my clipboard into the app. This is a real nightmare as
it pastes in confidential information or whatever you have in the clipboard.
Figma (https://www.figma.com/) is a prime example of this.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Middle mouse text field, notice it pastes.

OBSERVED RESULT
Paste on middle mouse.

EXPECTED RESULT
A way to not paste, just middle click.

Small update: After I reboot with only one screen, removed that screen's panel
and rebooted, plasma stopped crashing, so it is definitely caused by having two

[okular] [Bug 443707] Okular crashes while searching

I am doing some guess. Are your observations like this?
1. Search for “cable”
2. Okular is busy with searching and becomes unresponsive
3. While Okular is busy, you try to resize the side panel
4. Resizing the side panel does not work (“unresponsive”)
5. Shortly after, Okular crashes

[kid3] [Bug 432269] Custom Metadata field has to be added everytime

2021-10-16 Thread Urs Fleisch
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=432269

I have now implemented this feature and released a development snapshot
kid3-git20211016 in
https://sourceforge.net/projects/kid3/files/kid3/development/.
You can add custom frames in the "Custom Frames" section of the "Tags/Tag 2"
tab of the settings and then add these frames in the "Quick Access Frames".
Please check if this solves this issue.
