Examples include clicking a link in Libreoffice to open in Firefox or clicking on a file in Dolphin to open in any other application, which both take upwards of 15 seconds. One notable example is trying to search for a weather station in KDE Plasma's Weather Report widget, which will lock up plasmashell, leaving the only thing to do being to use a terminal to reboot or restart plasmashell. [konsole] [Bug 459040] New: Text reflow eliminates tabs at window width
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=459040 Bug ID: 459040 Summary: Text reflow eliminates tabs at window width Product: konsole Version: 21.12.3 Platform: Kubuntu Packages OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: history Assignee: konsole-de...@kde.org Reporter: androlgenh...@gmail.com Target Milestone: --- Created attachment 152014 --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=152014=edit Unmaximized konsole window reproduction SUMMARY Text reflow causes tabs at the start of the line to be removed. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Execute `printf "%0.s " {1..109}; echo -e "1\t2"` in konsole (substituting 109 for konsole's character width - 1) 2. Maximize konsole 3. Note that it shows the `1` and `2` with no space in between 4. Run the same command again 5. Note that the second time there is a tab between the `1` and the `2` 6. Unmaximize konsole 7. Note that the `2` from the first execution is at the left side, while the `2` from the second execution has a tab before it OBSERVED RESULT Tabs behave inconsistently with text reflow based on the window size when the command is initially executed. EXPECTED RESULT Either tabs should always be shown even when they're at the start of a line, or they should be hidden but remembered so that they can show up again after the window is resized. Tabs that move to the start of the line due to text reflow should also behave similarly to tabs that end up at the start of a line when a command is first executed without reflow. [kwalletmanager] [Bug 459039] New: Gripe with Kwallet Password Management
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=459039 Bug ID: 459039 Summary: Gripe with Kwallet Password Management Product: kwalletmanager Version: 22.08.1 Platform: Archlinux Packages OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Keywords: needs_verification, usability Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: va...@kde.org Reporter: nekone...@protonmail.ch Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY This isn't necessarily a bug with Kwallet but rather a usability gripe with it about how it's designed as a whole. Comparing Kwallet to the likes of KeePassXC, Kwallet's password management is less structured to maintained in the UI and has far fewer features than KeePassXC. Some will say: "then don't use Kwallet," but there's a few problems with this that I'm going to get into but my primary response to this is that I don't *mind* Kwallet as a concept but I find it greatly lacking and even frustrating in a few different ways. One of these reasons is because of the aforementioned lack of features compared to KeePassXC: as it stands, KeePassXC is superior to Kwallet almost in every conceivable way. So much so, that I honestly think KDE should actually integrate KeePassXC better into Plasma and SystemSettings officially *instead* of Kwallet because of both how much better it manages data (from the user-end) and its other great features like: password generation, 2FA/OTP, and browser integration. As a user, I interact far more with KeePassXC as a password manager than with Kwallet and this brings us to my next point... In my experience, Kwallet does a better job at requesting for authentication for desktop applications than KeePassXC; kwalletd5 is just better than the KeePassXC secrets integration and matches the system theme better; however, Kwallet has an irritating user flaw: if a user opts to save a credential but enters it incorrectly (to my recollection or something to that effect), fixing this becomes an unnecessarily frustrating task to fix. An example would be like using git@github SSH and then being stuck having to enter the key manually forever because Kwallet won't prompt for this anymore. Another usability example would be when a matrix client asks to save encryption key data to Kwallet but Kwallet's only export options are XML and "encrypted;" which on its own isn't "bad," but when KeePassXC is so much more feature-complete than Kwallet, makes transferring this data either impossible or non-user friendly enough to seem that way thereby barring user-choice and unintentionally creating a "lock-in" if they discover KeePassXC later because Kwallet is the KDE community default. That said, I think it would be better for the Plasma ecosystem as a whole to adopt a fork of KeePassXC to integrate with kwalletd5 to get the best of authentication requests, user data management, and user security in regards to supporting secure password generation, and 2FA/OTP. Another option is to evolve Kwallet far beyond what it is in both UX/UI and usability but... honestly, that would be far more work than just implementing a rebranded KeePassXC fork because it functions and already feels like it belongs in a Plasma desktop; Kwallet seems almost ancient by comparison, in my opinion. OBSERVED RESULT Kwallet, despite being an official KDE password manager, falls short in how effective it should be. EXPECTED RESULT Kwallet should either officially integrate with a fork of a superior Qt offering or substantially adapt to achieving equal parity in design and functionality. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=438312 --- Comment #16 from Aaron Rainbolt --- Wow, in retrospect that code is SO BAD. [frameworks-plasma] [Bug 458771] flickering
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=458771 --- Comment #3 from p...@pfortin.com --- Another variant just now: moving the mouse over the systray, then sliding across the various systray icons, each icon brings up a tooltip. The tooltips vary in size, so one tooltip has a large one (say ~2"x3"); the next tooltip the mouse moves over is a small one -- however, the small tooltip is initially displayed at the size of the large one, and the font size is scaled up to fit (magnified); then that tooltip is scaled down to its normal size. During the moment that the small icon is first displayed the size of the large one, and when it becomes its normal small size; the tooltip gets caught in a flicker between what appears to be the large icon's tooltip and the small icon's tooltip before it can be resized down to its normal size. This time the only way I could stop the flicker was to move mouse to the secondary screen. Each time I try to get a video capture, moving the mouse to another container (see previous comments); it usually stops. Capturing with my phone may be the only way... [kwin] [Bug 438312] Restarting kwin_x11 forgets activities assigned to windows
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=438312 --- Comment #10 from Aaron Rainbolt --- OK, I've read through the code and I think I see why this bug is occurring. My understanding of C++ is not all that great since I don't actually know the language, so this could be partially wrong. It appears that KWin tells ksmserver to restore the previous session when the user logs back in, relaunching programs that were open when the user logged out. However, when "kwin_x11 --replace" is used, the applications are already launched, so the session restoration code isn't run and the apps end up visible on all activities. In kwin/src/activities.cpp, bool Activities::start(const QString ), lines 117-123: > QDBusInterface ksmserver("org.kde.ksmserver", "/KSMServer", > "org.kde.KSMServerInterface"); > if (ksmserver.isValid()) { > ksmserver.asyncCall("restoreSubSession", id); > } else { > qCDebug(KWIN_CORE) << "couldn't get ksmserver interface"; > return false; > } ksmserver's "restoreSubSession" member function is called. In https://invent.kde.org/plasma/plasma-workspace/-/blob/master/ksmserver/server.cpp, the member function void KSMServer::restoreSubSession(const QString ) calls void KSMServer::tryRestoreNext(), which appears to go through a list of apps that need relaunched, determine whether they are already launched or not, relaunches them if they are not launched, and skips over them when they are already launched. Particularly, lines 986-994 of the above mentioned file: > bool alreadyStarted = false; > foreach (KSMClient *c, clients) { > if (QString::fromLocal8Bit(c->clientId()) == clientId) { > alreadyStarted = true; > break; > } > } > if (alreadyStarted) > continue; I believe this is where the bug is. The "if (alreadyStarted)" block needs to determine which activity the window(s) of the already launched app are supposed to be on, and specifically set the window(s) of that app to that activity. Otherwise, when "kwin_x11 --replace" is called, none of the session restoration really works, and thus you end up with a big lump of windows on all your activities. I'd guess the reason that the activities still seem to be set correctly for each app (as described in my previous comment) would be because the windows themselves still retain memory of what activity they're supposed to be on, but the restarted kwin process isn't taking that into account. This might not be the best place for the fix to go, and it's possible I've misunderstood the code, but this is what I have so far. I'm not quite sure how to implement the proposed fix, I'm still working on that part. But here's the progress I've made, hopefully this will be helpful. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

Application windows were being minimized to the top of the screen. https://imgur.com/wYxwpiG A real horror movie |o| I was unable to restart plasmashell, it returned the following message: "Quitting application plasmashell failed. [kwin] [Bug 459034] New: Implement shaded window feature
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=459034 Bug ID: 459034 Summary: Implement shaded window feature Product: kwin Version: master Platform: Other OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: wayland-generic Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org Reporter: h...@urpla.net Target Milestone: --- In order to not disrupt long term users, and to create further momentum for switching to wayland, I kindly ask for implementation of the window shaded feature similar to what we have in X11. X11 does manage a boolean (toggle) flag called SHADED. If active, the window is drawn with the window content height set to zero. The window geometry isn't affected from this flag, and as such, such a window could be persisted in the session handling. After session restart, such a window is restored with its original size, but again, the screen representation is restored with height zero. The popularity of https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=450582 demonstrates, that a lot of long term users rely on this feature and again, such an implementation would be required to allow them to switch over to wayland without friction. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

It misses the "Open in terminal" menu item. Note this is for the context menu when clicking on a directory on the desktop, not the context menu when clicking on free space on the desktop. Originally filled as https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=451217#c0 but that one gor wrongly fixed for a similar fix for the free area context menu. Committed on 12/09/2022 at 19:45. Pushed by eoinoneill into branch 'master'. Fix the "Start Numbering At" Field not Working as Advertised Internally, the code always refers to this as 'numbering offset' so I presume that the labeling changed in the GUI and that wasn't properly reflected in the code to work as intended. In short, I've modified the behavior to work as advertised. I plan to make some modifications to export at some point, but one of the best things we could do short term is clean up variable naming to better reflect intent as that is how this bug happened in the first place (I think...) [plasmashell] [Bug 455252] Applications with malformed .desktop files do not autostart with systemd boot
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=455252 Nate Graham changed: What|Removed |Added Status|RESOLVED|REOPENED Resolution|NOT A BUG |--- --- Comment #21 from Nate Graham --- I have to agree. >From the Plasma user's perspective, something that was working that was under KDE's control broke. The fact that it broke because under the hood, Plasma switched to a different technical system that has stricter parsing requirements doesn't make it not Plasma's bug. Plasma chose to make that change and thus owns any regressions stemming from it. So have two options: 1. Patch Plasma by reformatting now-invalid desktop files to be valid, in which case it remains our bug to fix. Changing anything with `=False` to be `=false` should hopefully not be that hard. 2. Patch systemd-xdg-autostart-generator to not be so strict, in which case it will be an upstream bug, but we should really submit the fix since we're affected by it. We can do one or both, I don't think we have the option to do neither and call it not a bug. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
