[kate] [Bug 465841] New: [Neon unstable] Cursor movement in kate is very slow in some files

2023-02-16 Thread Oded Arbel
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=465841

Bug ID: 465841
Summary: [Neon unstable] Cursor movement in kate is very slow
in some files
Classification: Applications
   Product: kate
   Version: Git
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: application
  Assignee: kwrite-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: o...@geek.co.il
  Target Milestone: ---

Created attachment 156303
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=156303&action=edit
a log file that causes the issue

Kate is at version 23.03.70

SUMMARY
When editing certain files (doesn't have to be a file - I have the same issue
with pasting text into a new editor), cursor movement or scrolling with the
mouse is very slow, as an example: it takes ~2 seconds for the cursor to
respond to HOME or END.

I haven't been able to understand what features of these texts cause this
behavior - to allow me to synthetically generate these files, but I can
reliably get this issue to exhibit by getting text from AWS Cloudwatch logs,
where when viewing a log stream I click Actions -> "Copy Search Results
(ASCII)" (though weirdly, using "Copy Search Results (CSV)" does not result in
problematic text even though it is very similar text in size and width).

I'm attaching a sample file that shows this problem for me.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Use Kate to open a file or paste text with some characteristics (see
attached file for example)
2. Use the keyboard or mouse to move around the text.

OBSERVED RESULT
The movement is slow and jerky, and sometimes Kate freezes for a second or two
(the compositor grayscales the window). Especially moving to start and end of
line is very slow.

EXPECTED RESULT
Text movement should be responsive

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma:
KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.80
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.104.0
Qt Version: 5.15.8

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
With the same file, gedit also behaves weirdly.

[dolphin] [Bug 465843] New: Feature request: Show indicator for new folders and files

2023-02-16 Thread Karl Ove Hufthammer

This is a suggestion for a new feature:

At work, I noticed that Microsoft SharePoint / OneDrive has a usability feature
I actually like. *New* folders and files are marked with a special indicator
(three small lines). This makes it very easy to spot them in the folder view.
Here are a few screenshots (taken from the web) illustrating how it looks:

*
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Bqn_TlvCYG2dmRZpzwV9fijDRTQ7-L6Ov-OITpIfGa65WEqeVLA1AX6i1xmFdXUdvkbxkdEeQwfQux6BFftKtW0czR2TqWL_3_KXpKaf3VZzVFaN4UEgJlw2IQOGthgsAaY--Wm1

*
https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/image/serverpage/image-id/23878i9608333CE926FD1B/image-size/large?v=v2&px=999

According to the documentation
(https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/what-do-the-onedrive-icons-mean-11143026-8000-44f8-aaa9-67c985aa49b3#ID0EBH=Web),
the three lines are called ‘glimmer marks’.

I don’t have any strong preferences regarding the implemention, e.g., how the
indicator should look (though I find the sparkling ‘glimmer marks’ very
intuitive), or what ‘new’ should be (created in the last 24 hours, created in
the current session, perhaps also including ‘recently modified’ files?). But I
find the actual feature very useful, as it makes it easier and faster to find
the folders/files one is *most likely* to open/edit, without having to sort by
‘last modified’.

Can you run kate using the perf profiler? Perhaps use
https://github.com/KDAB/hotspot and attach to Kate and start recording before
it gets slow. Once you stop the recording, it will show you a flamegraph which
might explain more why this is happening.

I just updated to 5.27.0 and rebooted, experiencing the same issue on Wayland.
On Kwin debug console, I can see the copied content is in "Primary selection"
even if nothing was selected (I right clicked a link and clicked "Copy Link"),
while "Clipboard" is empty.

The strange workaround is to copy the exact same content twice, then Clipboard
is filled and I can paste.

My clipboard settings are to emulate traditional Windows behavior: single
clipboard, do not auto copy on select.

Ok. It seems this tool will DETECT and recognize faces. I am afraid to have new

Git commit fc46a2215809abebfdab8ca471c1b27b65b7ad56 by Nate Graham.
Committed on 16/02/2023 at 15:21.
Pushed by ngraham into branch 'master'.

Fix multimonitor window size restoration

The size saving and restoring code saves width and height values under a
config key that changes based on the active screens, the name of the
current screen, and the resolution of the current screen. This suffers
from a few issues:
- Due to https://bugreports.qt.io/browse/QTBUG-50788, what counts as the
current screen is volatile at runtime, and hence data gets saved to
and read from different config file keys.
- Including the screen resolution of the current screen only makes sense
for single-screen setups anyway as it's just random data causing
  entropy for multi-screen setups.

Both of these issues contribute to the problem of window size being
restored incorrectly for multi-screen setups.

This commit fixes the issue by no longer including current-screen-based
data in the config file keys for multi-screen setups; just including the
current set of screens is good enough and it's non-volatile within the
scope of what we care about.

decorations were noticeably grainy, I tried rebooting again to fix it but to no
avail, when i launched firefox i noticed that not just the window decorations
are different, but my panels are larger as well.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. upgrade to 5.27???

[kde] [Bug 465849] New: The Glide desktop effect always moves the window to the center of the screen during transition

2023-02-16 Thread Kyle
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=465849

Bug ID: 465849
Summary: The Glide desktop effect always moves the window to
the center of the screen during transition
Classification: I don't know
   Product: kde
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Archlinux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: unassigned-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: m...@kylxbn.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
When the Glide desktop effect is active / selected, appearing windows and
dialogs always starts appearing at the center of the screen during the
transition, and then snaps to the correct location after the transition is
finished. When the window / dialog is closed, the window / dialog snaps to the
center of the screen (regardless of its current position) before the transition
starts.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. System Settings → Workspace Behavior → Desktop Effects → Window Open/Close
Animation → Choose "Glide" → Apply
2. Open a window (transition starts at center before snapping the window to the
right position)
3. Close the window (window snaps to center before transition starts)

OBSERVED RESULT
As attached.

EXPECTED RESULT
The window will not snap to the center of the screen before a transition
starts.

[krfb] [Bug 451086] Cannot connect to KRFB desktop running on Fedora 36 KDE.

2023-02-16 Thread Henrik Harmsen
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=451086

Some more troubleshooting information. My previous comment should be ignored
because that was due to another problem which got fixed in krfb: "pw" plugin
does not work at all in X11 so that is why it did not work. krfb now no longer
enables "pw" under X11 anymore.
However, I set up a KDE wayland desktop (in a VM) and I am now using that for
troubleshooting. Using the "pw" plugin here, I get two different outcomes:

1. If "Portal" pops up a window asking what to share (as described in
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=458191) then I can semi-successfully
connect to krfb from VNC. However the client window has changed everything that
is blue into yellow. Seems RGB got mixed up somewhere. This is the first time
krfb has ever worked in any fashion on Wayland for me. So semi-success there.

2. If I restart krfb rather quickly, then "Portal" does not pop up a window
asking what to share (maybe the answer is cached) and then I get the failure
mode described here with the invalid window sizes. I don't even know what
Portal is yet though.

I'm attaching here a printout from krfb in the two modes described above. By
the way I am using Kubuntu 22.10 for my testing, probably it doesn't matter.

yes it is "ffmpegthumbs" and video files is enabled, on one of my laptop it was
sorted after the update to plasma 5.27 but need to check on the other one but
since they've all upgraded to plasma 5.27 i guess it will be fine.

Is it possible to make the sycoca build process async? For example, if the
timestamp mismatches when querying, then query against the stale database until
it is rebuilt.

Or, is it possible (or desirable) to make KService a standalone DBus service?
Currently, every application using KApplicationTrader::query has to scan all
desktop files sometimes. That sounds like a lot of duplicated effort.

[plasmashell] [Bug 465850] New: Virtual desktop size is wrong for certain scale values

2023-02-16 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=465850

Bug ID: 465850
Summary: Virtual desktop size is wrong for certain scale values
Classification: Plasma
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 5.27.0
  Platform: Archlinux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Desktop Containment
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: gudvinr+...@gmail.com
CC: notm...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: 1.0

SUMMARY

My real display size is 2560x1440.
I use 115% scale, which (in theory) should give "virtual" screen size 2226x1252
or maybe 2227x1253 depending on how rounding is performed.
Desktop size reported by kwin debug console is 2229x1254, which is neither.

That leads to inconsistencies, for example I have an issue where MPV, which
supports fractional scaling (at least in 0.35.1), scales itself to 1252 if I
set window geometry to 1440.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Set display scale to 115%
2. Run mpv --no-keepaspect-window --geometry=WxH, where W is native display
width and H is some arbitrary value

OBSERVED RESULT
Virtual desktop size doesn't match scale used by real apps or any meaningful
value you could get by multiplying screen dimensions

EXPECTED RESULT
Predictable desktop size that fits windows that use same fractional scale

Patch to make Gwenview render images more sharply

SUMMARY
Some images (photos) look slightly blurry when they are displayed with a zoom
level < 100% (this is the default if I simply open an image file that has a
higher resolution than my screen).

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open a photo in Gwenview with small, fine-grained details.

OBSERVED RESULT
Photo looks slightly blurry.
(see attached screenshot, view at 100%)

EXPECTED RESULT
Photo looks "sharp".
(see attached screenshot of the same image displayed by Firefox, view at 100%)

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I discovered this problem by developing RAW files in darktable, wondering why
the image looks sharp in darktable but a bit blurry in Gwenview.
I compared the rendering of Gwenview with:
* Firefox
* digiKam
* Eye of Gnome
On all of them it looks "good/sharp".

I get a sharp rendering in Gwenview by replacing Qt::SmoothTransformation with
Qt::FastTransformation in one function, see attached patch.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Create a new document (adding content doesn't change the outcome)
2. Hit Ctrl+S to save the document (using the menu File->Save doesn't seem to
produce the bug)

OBSERVED RESULT
Many file pickers spawn. Count is not clear, but moving the mouse over the

window and holding Esc seems to get rid of them all so I believe there are
human input factors that affect this, rather than being an out-of-control loop.

SUMMARY

I've seen this behavior only in Prusa Slicer so far, but before I upgrade to
5.27 today (and also to kf 5.103), it now doesn't scale.

If I run it with GDK_SCALE set, it starts normally as I usually see it. It
doesn't matter if I set "GDK_SCALE" or "GDK_SCALE=1", result is the same.
I didn't use any env variables before so I think there could be some
regression.

description of the issue or it has been silently abandoned. Please be honest
with me, I don't like wasting energy trying to move the unmovable.

[kwin] [Bug 465853] Since 5.27 some gtk apps under xwayland have weird scale

Just as I filed this issue, I opened discord and it has same behaviour.
Interface is tiny and if I launch discord with GDK_SCALE= discord, it starts
having normal scale.

So I suspect it isn't wxgtk nor prusa-slicer issue.

Just tested sleep in KDE Plasma 5.27 on Manjaro testing and wonder what: the
bug is still there.

Again I had to remove `~/.local/share/kscreen` folder and tediously rearrange
all my screens.

So annoying. This is just unusable as a daily driver. I'm giving up on this, as
months pass and no one seems to really care. Goodbye KDE.

[digikam] [Bug 465854] New: Make information panel of Captions Menu writable without to have to create a template

2023-02-16 Thread mahikeulbody
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=465854

Bug ID: 465854
Summary: Make information panel of Captions Menu writable
without to have to create a template
Classification: Applications
   Product: digikam
   Version: 8.0.0
  Platform: Manjaro
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: digikam-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: mcfaro...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Description panel and Tag panel are writable and we can apply it to a selected
photos without to have to use a template. It would be nice to be able to do the
same with the Information panel or, at least, the fields related to Location.
It is a little bit strange (and tedious) to have to create a template to write
metadata rather specific to a subset of photos and which are not necessarily
intended to be reused (at contrary of Rights or Contacts).

If I run it with GDK_SCALE set, it starts normally as I usually see it. It
doesn't matter if I set "GDK_SCALE" or "GDK_SCALE=1", result is the same.
I didn't use any env variables before so I think there could be some

Not sure if this is related, but hinting is also not respected. No matter which
level you choose, it stays at "slight".

A quick way to check: see the hinting preview in the font setting, it's all the
same for all hinting levels.

[Kalk] [Bug 465855] New: Kalk instantly crashes in KDE Plasma 5.27.0

2023-02-16 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=465855

Bug ID: 465855
Summary: Kalk instantly crashes in KDE Plasma 5.27.0
Classification: Applications
   Product: Kalk
   Version: 23.01.0
  Platform: Archlinux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: crash
  Priority: NOR
 Component: General
  Assignee: hanyo...@protonmail.com
  Reporter: yiz...@kulodgei.com
CC: espi...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Prior to KDE Plasma 5.27.0 I had no issue with launching flatpak Kalk. I
updated last night and now I cannot launch Kalk anymore. The first error is
complaining about network (which I don't see why Kalk would need) and then when
I granted it network it fails for another reason.

This might be due to a conflict with the new Discover KCM flatpak permissions
and Flatseal?

Putting severity urgent as I rely on kalk daily and have to use my phone
currently lol.

When launching in Konsole this is printed:

without network permission, which I used to not give prior to 5.27.0
Warning: fallback to QtQuick software backend.
Qt: Session management error: Could not open network socket
QFont::setPointSizeF: Point size <= 0 (0.00), must be greater than 0
...
this is printed about 50 times
..

after giving network permission

Warning: fallback to QtQuick software backend.
QFont::setPointSizeF: Point size <= 0 (0.00), must be greater than 0
...
this is printed about 50 times
..

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Update to KDE Plasma 5.27.0 and have flatpak-kcm maybe?
2. Try to launch flatpak Kalk

OBSERVED RESULT
Application does not launch

EXPECTED RESULT
Application launches.

2023-02-16 Thread Paul Floyd
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=465465

I've started looking at the code.

Things can be very slow with Valgrind. There are only a few of us active at the
moment. Some of us just work in our spare time and everyone else has lots of
other commitments.

No problems building the code. I did a test with kcachegrind. It worked, but
the menu items for the new events don't have any description - we'll need to
work with the kcachegrind maintainers to update that. There was an error with
cg_merge, something about inconsistent totals.

I need to look more at the time/memory overhead that gets added. I also want to
try a few more examples to get more of a feel for the new events that get
produced.

[kwin] [Bug 465858] New: shift + drag does not interact with the tiling layout if Both Shifts together enable Caps Lock

2023-02-16 Thread Rob
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=465858

Bug ID: 465858
Summary: shift + drag does not interact with the tiling layout
if Both Shifts together enable Caps Lock
Classification: Plasma
   Product: kwin
   Version: 5.27.0
  Platform: Archlinux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Custom Tiling
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: robcr...@gmail.com
CC: notm...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
***
I use the "Both Shifts together enable Caps Lock" feature (System Settings >
Input Devices > Keyboard > Advanced > Compatibility Options) since I also make
Caps Lock and additional Hyper. If this setup is in place, holding Shift makes
no difference in window resizing behavior. Unchecking "Both Shifts together
enable Caps Lock" produces the expected behavior.
***

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. In System Settings > Input Devices > Keyboard > Advanced > Compatibility
Options, check "Both Shifts together enable Caps Lock".
2. Configure a tiling layout with Meta + T.
3. Attempt to drag a window into a tile frame by holding Shift while dragging
it.

OBSERVED RESULT
Dragging simply moves the window normally without snapping it to any tile
frame.

EXPECTED RESULT
Dragging a window into the tile frame should snap the window into place,
resizing it to fit.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Have automatic session lock after X minutes enabled
2. Use a software playing audio such as
https://gitlab.gnome.org/World/Shortwave/ and have it play whatever you want
3. Wait the timer for the automatic session lock to pass: while dimming and
display shutdown will happen, session lock won't

OBSERVED RESULT

Session doesn't lock

EXPECTED RESULT

While this behavior is perfectly fine and wished when playing video, it's not
when only player audio.
On top of that, this have a "dangerous" side-effect in that by reflexes one can
type its session password because the screen is still shutdown, and notice too
late that the password wasn't typed on the screen lock but on whatever
application that's on foreground, and that can be eg. an IM client.

[kwalletmanager] [Bug 465860] New: Kwallet erases sessions

2023-02-16 Thread Marcelo dos Santos Mafra
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=465860

Bug ID: 465860
   Summary: Kwallet erases sessions
Classification: Applications
   Product: kwalletmanager
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Fedora RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: va...@kde.org
  Reporter: msma...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
***
Kwallet doesn't ask if I want to use it as a password manager and erases all my
browsers' saved sessions silently. That's extremely frustration on dual GUI.
I, from time to time install KDE Plasma along side Gnome, as it is a per
version test to check how it's doing (good work guys!) I always forget to
remove Kwallet and Kwallet related packages. Because as soon as I log in to
Plasma and open any browser, all my sessions are gone. I am not sure, but I
think Chromium based ones lose their sessions even if I don't open them. As I
am not willing to login back again to all my accounts to test it, I will assume
that I am miss remembering it. I also don't know if it would happen with
another DE.
***

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Use for example Fedora Workstation and save some email session, youtube,
twitch etc with your logged account
2. Install Plasma Desktop, login to Plasma
3. Open your browser and see that all previously saved sessions are gone. Even
getting back to Gnome, they are gone

OBSERVED RESULT
Lose all logged services, websites, email etc

EXPECTED RESULT
To not require to login to all my services again

Linux/KDE Plasma: Fedora Linux 37

KDE Plasma Version: 5.25, 5.26 and 5.27 (kdesig/kde copr)

Another hint, with the geolocation tool in digiKam-8.0.0 it is possible to fill

[dolphin] [Bug 465861] New: Unable to open LibreOffice documents on password-protected webdav remote

2023-02-16 Thread Alex Dewar

Bug ID: 465861
Summary: Unable to open LibreOffice documents on
password-protected webdav remote
Classification: Applications
   Product: dolphin
   Version: 22.12.2
  Platform: Archlinux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: dolphin-bugs-n...@kde.org

CC: kfm-de...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

Created attachment 156317
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=156317&action=edit
Screenshot of HTTP error

SUMMARY

I currently access my workplace's Sharepoint drive in Dolphin via webdav. In
order to make this work, I first had to authenticate using konqueror so that
the necessary token is stored as a cookie. After this, dolphin will happily
navigate to Sharepoint's webdav frontend.

It mostly works great and I can perform normal file operations (moving,
renaming etc.) as well as opening files. The problem comes when I try to open a
file using LibreOffice. Dolphin *thinks* that LibreOffice can open http/webdav
URLs directly, because it sets the X-KDE-Protocols property in its .desktop
files. The problem is that LibreOffice isn't able to access the file because it
doesn't have the relevant authentication token, so I get an error. Seemingly
for other, non-http-aware programs, dolphin is still able to open files with
them via kio-fuse and presumably this would also work with LibreOffice, except
for the fact that there doesn't seem to be a way to enforce this behaviour.

I see a couple of solutions to this. One would be to allow users to turn on/off
this behaviour in some way. This could be done globally (i.e. "never open http
links with LibreOffice") or just for the individual remote folder.
Alternatively, I suppose dolphin could try to detect when it is unlikely that
the file will be available on the public web (e.g. by checking whether or not
authentication was required to access it) and change its behaviour accordingly.
This option seems harder.

See attachment for screenshot of error.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Connect to a password-protected webdav instance through dolphin
2. Attempt to open a LibreOffice document

OBSERVED RESULT
Error displayed as LibreOffice fails to access URL.

EXPECTED RESULT
File opens normally (via kio-fuse?).

If you tick the i"Clear and rebuild data" set ? , the other settings are greyed
out, i.e. not executed. Only the fingerprints (I just call them that) are
created together with the name in the face database. This can be done anytime
or should be done every once in a while if faces are mismatched etc. to have
better face recognition. No face rectangles are created or anything like that.
