With your sample image attached, digiKam 8.2.0 for Windows (including Exiv2

show more info from file properties, not metadata.

So for me the Exiv2 behavior is normal.

I am on the unreleased 24.02 version, but I cannot reproduce this. What is your
system info and what video format are you using? I need to know things like
your GPU and CPU in case GPU encoding is affecting the colors.

I am using an AMD Ryzen 7 4800H CPU with integrated AMD Radeon graphics
(Renoir), Mesa graphics drivers 23.2.1 and Linux kernel 6.6.1. The video
formats I tried are WebM (VP9, CPU encoding) and MP4 (H.264, GPU encoding).
Since you're on Spectacle 23.08.2, you should have WebM (VP8) and MP4 (H.264)
as your options. Whether or not they encode with the GPU or CPU depends on what
your GPU supports. You can find out by running `vainfo | grep Enc` if you have
libva-utils installed.

[systemsettings] [Bug 455444] Custom Shortcuts are gone in 5.25 on Wayland

2023-11-21 Thread Nate Graham
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=455444

There's nothing to fix; the old unmaintained "Custom Shortcuts" page in System
Settings has been removed for Plasma 6, and was hidden in the Wayland session
for Plasma 5 starting in 5.25. So this isn't a bug but rather an intentional
decision. In its place is the newer actively maintained "Shortcuts" page in
System Settings.

If you have further questions, including questions about how to migrate to the
new system, I'd recommend asking them on https://discuss.kde.org/c/help/6, as I
mentioned earlier.

[digikam] [Bug 470391] Cannot uninstall or update Nightly build

> Gilles Caulier

Well, some progress in this one: I actually did get past the UAC prompt to the
installer. However, it suffers from the orphan process bug too, and this time I
can't find any way to get around it. After killing all the rogue digiKam
processes as described previously (the installer's kill option doesn't work,
just as before), I get an error message saying:

"You have C:\Program Files\digiKam\uninstall.exe running in C:\Program
Files\digiKam. Select "Yes" to kill the process(es), "No" to retry or "Cancel"
to quit."

Clicking "Yes" dumps the installer back to digiKam 8.2.0 initial setup dialog,
where clicking "Yes" presents the error message above all over again. Killing
the rogue uninstall.exe process above doesn't fix or change any of the above.

As before, I had to use Process Explorer to kill the rogue processes. I'm still
confused as to how/why digiKam leaves orphan processes after exit 🤷‍♂️

So, in summary: different variation of the same problem, with the same result.

[kdeplasma-addons] [Bug 477348] New: Plasma 6 Application Dashboard: Can't select items via keyboard after searching

2023-11-21 Thread Jan Rathmann
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=477348

Bug ID: 477348
Summary: Plasma 6 Application Dashboard: Can't select items via
keyboard after searching
Classification: Plasma
   Product: kdeplasma-addons
   Version: 5.27.80
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Application Dashboard
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: jan.rathm...@gmx.de
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
In the Plasma 6 version of the Application Dashboard, it's impossible to select
or change between items after entering a search term.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open Dashboard.
2. Enter some letters as a search term.
3. Try to select an item by pressing Arrow-down or Tab.

OBSERVED RESULT
Keyboard focus stays in the search field. No item gets selected.
When pressing Arrow-down, nothing happens. When pressing Tab, the search term
is expanded by a tab character. (Pressing Enter adds a line-break, which also
looks funny ;-) )

EXPECTED RESULT
Pressing Arrow-down should navigate you downwards through the items, pressing
Tab should navigate you through the first items of each section.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
KDE Plasma Version: 5.81
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.245
Qt Version: 6.6.0

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
* Independent of Wayland/X11.
* Reproduced in Neon Unstable installation and VM with openSuse Krypton live
image.

[KBibTeX] [Bug 426856] File encoding is not always stored

Comment #7 has the important point here: probably every of your BibTeX files
where you reported that KBibTeX switched from LaTeX encoding to UTF-8 was due
to KBibTeX not knowing how to map an Unicode character to a LaTeX equivalent.
Thus is was falling back to UTF-8 encoding in order to preserve the data, i.e.
it is a feature, not a bug ;-)
This is for two reasons: First, the mapping is manually crafted and simply does
not cover the thousands of characters and symbols that are in use. Second, for
some symbols, no clear mapping is possible. One particular example is the Greek
letter mu. Unicode knows U+00B5 (micro sign), U+03BC (Greek small letter mu),
U+1D6CD (Mathematical bold small mu), and possibly others. On the LaTeX side
you have \mu (in math mode), \textmu, \upmu, \muup, \textmugreek, and possibly
others.

Anyhow, I added U+00A0, U+2010, and U+202F to the manual mapping, as those were
mentioned earlier and seem most pressing. U+2010 and U+202F are
"unidirectional", i.e. they will be mapped to a simple ASCII dash/minus/hyphen
and '\,', respectively, and when again encoded to UTF-8 will stay ASCII minus
or become U+2009, respectively.
If you want to add more manual mappings or update existing ones, please let me
know, e.g. by commenting in this bug report and providing both Unicode number
and corresponding LaTeX command.
The manual mapping is coded in src/io/encoderlatex.cpp, in case you want to
look at the technical details.

(In reply to nobodyinperson from comment #7)

guess the Krita devs maintain it? I'll ask them on the IRC dev channel. I wish
I could find an email of the person who made the Snap so I could report the
issue and ask them to allow the package to get enough permission to save
resources like gradients. I'll investigate.

I just tried the example file with kde-cli-tools commit

`text/x-python`. I assume the upstream changes were added in the mean time.

The source build kmimetypefinder identifies as version `5.81.80` – I'll use

Git commit 15b8fbe6044a0fd3cb66af78d7e4e44338be5b58 by Vlad Zahorodnii.
Committed on 21/11/2023 at 20:26.
Pushed by vladz into branch 'master'.

Preserve relative order of transient siblings

If a constraint indicates that window A must be below window B but it's
not the case at the moment, the workspace will move window A right after
window B.

This can invert the relative order of transient siblings, for example
let's say that there are three constraints

- A <- B (window A must be below window B)
- A <- C
- A <- D

and the unconstrained stacking order looks as follows: [B, C, D, A]. The
final constrained stacking order is expected to look as [A, B, C, D],
but currently it's [A, D, C, B] instead:

- starting stacking order: [B, C, D, A]
- apply A <- B constraint: [C, D, A, B]
- apply A <- C constraint: [D, A, C, B]
- apply A <- D constraint: [A, D, C, B]

In order to fix this issue, this patch makes the workspace traverse the
constraint graph in the reverse order. In addition to that, it ensures
that the relative order of transient siblings in unconstrained stacking
order is preserved in the constrained one.

If you have virtual consoles configured, you should see a login prompt. What
happens when you do Ctrl+Alt+F3/F4? Do you see a login prompt then?

I am not sure what the expected behavior is when you try to switch to a virtual
console that is not configured. For me when I do that I see a blinking cursor
on a black screen.

Use case: Tracking time for work.

I love Kronometer and I'm experimenting with using it as a personal
productivity tool, always having an incrementing stopwatch on my monitor so I
don't waste too much time.

I nice feature would be a checkbox that shows the current lap in the lap list.
Currently, the lap doesn't show in the list until you press "Lap". It would be
nice to see the lap beforehand because then I can name the task I am working on
ahead of time in the "Note" column.

Thank you for your great work!

Git commit 6a997b41ae9acccaba8169eb69c354774085fd00 by Vlad Zahorodnii.

Fix screen becoming black when its geometry changes while overview is active

Offscreen quick views are repainted in the pre paint step because that
requires a QOpenGLContext and we don't want it to mess with kwin's
opengl context. After a view is updated, its QOpenGLContext is going to
be unbound.

During normal operation mode, it works as expected:

- the view gets updated in the pre paint stage
- kwin opengl context is made current when starting the paint stage
- the offscreen view is painted on the screen

However, effects->renderScreen() has no such separation. The OpenGL
context changes from the pre paint stage will leak to the paint stage.
So we have

- the workspace notifies that the screens have changed
- the screen transform effect sees that, makes opengl context current
  and renders the screen
- the offscreen quick view is updated and after OffscreenQuickView
is done, it's going to call QOpenGLContext::doneCurrent()
- effects->renderScreen() calls m_scene->paint()
- since there's no current opengl context, vbo allocation in
GLTexture::render() will fail and nothing will be rendered on the
  screen

As a way around it, this change adds a makeOpenGLContextCurrent() call
before the paint stage. It doesn't quite belong there, the opengl
context has to be made current in the paint stage, e.g. by the
ItemRenderer or something. But atm we have no good place where we
could stick it in.

[kscreenlocker] [Bug 477341] New: Turning off the screen should not lock

2023-11-21 Thread Puspam Adak
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=477341

Bug ID: 477341
Summary: Turning off the screen should not lock
Classification: Plasma
   Product: kscreenlocker
   Version: 5.27.9
  Platform: Arch Linux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: major
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: puspitaadak9...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

There are a few ways to forcefully turn off the screen, such as the "Turn Off
Screen" shortcut and `xdg-screensaver activate` command. Each of them does turn
the screen off, but the screen also gets locked, even if automatic screen
locking is disabled in system settings.
This gets very annoying because the password needs to be typed every time I
want to turn off the screen. I remember this didn't happen in the previous
version of kscreenlocker.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Set a shortcut for "Turn Off Screen" or run the command `xdg-screensaver
activate` .
2. Invoke the shortcut.

OBSERVED RESULT
The screen gets locked alongside turning off.

EXPECTED RESULT
Screen should not lock after turning off, if automatic screen locking is
disabled.

Ctrl-Alt-Fx are used to switch to virtual consoles. It is not destructive --
you can get back to the GUI with either Ctrl-Alt-F1 or Ctrl-Alt-F2. Nowadays it
is still useful for doing system admin stuff when the graphical environment
stops working.

Bug ID: 477339
Summary: Can't click or scroll within viewport to change pages
Classification: Applications
   Product: Arianna
   Version: 23.08.3
  Platform: Flatpak
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: c...@carlschwan.eu
  Reporter: kde_bugzill...@ssokolow.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Unlike any other eReader or document reader I've ever used (Evince, Okular,
Calibre's eBook Reader, Comix/MComix, a folder of unpacked page scans in
GQView/Geeqie, Cool Reader, iOS's books app, etc.), Arianna does nothing when
attempting to use left-click (tap in iOS's case) or the scroll wheel within the
viewport to switch pages.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open up a book
2. Position the cursor on top of the page (i.e. the easiest-to-acquire position
by Fitts's law)
3. Left-click
4. Spin the scroll wheel in both directions

OBSERVED RESULT

Nothing happens

EXPECTED RESULT

At least one of those operations should result in a page turn. Ideally all of
them.

MComix chooses previous/next based on which page you left click on in two-page
view.

I can reproduce it, in icons-only and non icons-only task manager. The
workaround is to disable grouping or to drag the file to the window itself. I
think is feature request.

[plasmashell] [Bug 477338] New: The default wallpaper setting of a look-and-feel package has no effect

2023-11-21 Thread Alessandro Astone
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=477338

Bug ID: 477338
Summary: The default wallpaper setting of a look-and-feel
package has no effect
Classification: Plasma
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 5.27.80
  Platform: Fedora RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Global Theme packages
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: ales.ast...@gmail.com
CC: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: 1.0

A look-and-feel package may specify its preferred default wallpaper in
./contents/defaults as

[Wallpaper]
Image=

We use this in Fedora to set our default wallpaper, and it used to work until
Plasma 5.27
In Plasma 6 alpha, it doesn't seem to have any effect anymore.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. sed -i -e 's|^Image=.*$|Image=Kite|g'
/usr/share/plasma/look-and-feel/org.kde.breeze.desktop/contents/defaults
2. Select the Breeze look-and-feel, applying the Desktop layout too.
Or, preferably this is already the default look-and-feel package)
3. Log out
4. Log in

OBSERVED RESULT
The wallpaper is still "Next", both for existing and newly-created users

EXPECTED RESULT
The wallpaper is "Kite"

Patch

The attached patch will disable 8bit C1 character handling entirely. As stated
in my original report, this is unlikely to cause any problems, but if deemed
necessary, it can be made optional. For that, I introduced a variable
handle8bitC1 which so far is constant, but can be made configurable. (I'd
suggest the default be false still.)

[Discover] [Bug 477337] New: Show inputs supported by an app on its product page

Mockup of new icons

When using Linux on less common form factors (tablets, touch screens, Home
Theater setups), usually there is no way to know if an app is going to be
usable until you install and run it. For example, you have no idea if an app
will respond to touch inputs properly, or if a game will work well with a
gamepad.

However, it has come to my attention that the Appstream specification allows
apps to list what s they support. see here:
https://freedesktop.org/software/appstream/docs/chap-Metadata.html

When viewing an app in Discover, would it be possible to add icons to indicate
what forms of input this app supports?
Screenshot attached as a rough mockup of what I'm thinking.

If this is an acceptable idea, I am willing to take an honest stab at
implementing this myself in a pull request. However, I am a web developer, with
barely any c++ experience. I would likely need guidance.

[kscreenlocker] [Bug 477326] w\ fingerprint unlocking enabled: Black screen and cursor for 30 seconds after cancelling screen locking within the "unlock w/o password" grace period

IIRC there's a 30 seconds timeout for the fingerprint reader, which would
perfectly correlate.
Maybe this issue is fixed in 6.0 where multiple PAM can be used simultaneously
but I don't have the time to test this.

This issue seems to be related to fingerprint unlocking, as I can short cut the
black screen by putting my finger on the fingerprint reader and the last four
lines of the log posted in the opening post, namely

```
kscreenlocker_greet: pam_unix(kde:auth): unexpected response from failed
conversation function
kscreenlocker_greet: QEventLoop: Cannot be used without QApplication
kscreenlocker_greet: pam_unix(kde:auth): conversation failed
```

do not appear in journalctl.

(In reply to Lucy June Schonder from comment #3)
> I use the XFS for Root and BtrFS for Home ;-)
My guess in that case is that you have the BTRFS partition mounted with a
different device number. It can (easily) be that, if you are using BTRFS and
have multiple subvolumes, the partition "appears" with a different minor device
number on a reboot as the of a race during the initial (parallel) mount.

Baloo uses a combination of the device number and inode as its internal
Document ID. If it sees a file, even one it has seen before, appearing with a
different device number it thinks it is a new file and indexes it again. It has
been OpenSUSE users who have suffered most from this but recently also Fedora.

A fix for this has landed with Frameworks 5.111. Not a perfect fix but I think
reasonable enough...
