Done for FreeBSD and Darwin as well. The Solaris code is a bit different, and

[kate] [Bug 488054] New: Poor UI performance after update from 24.02 to 24.05

2024-06-04 Thread Jan Papež
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=488054

Bug ID: 488054
Summary: Poor UI performance after update from 24.02 to 24.05
Classification: Applications
   Product: kate
   Version: 24.05.0
  Platform: macOS (DMG)
OS: macOS
Status: REPORTED

***

SUMMARY
I use Kate on macOS more than a year, constantly upgrading to the latest stable
versions. Now I've upgraded to 24.05 (installed from .dmg provided at KDE CDN)
and I notice that application response is worse than it was. When I click in
different split window, create new document (Cmd-N), call saving dialog
(Cmd-S), everytime I have to wait a few seconds to start typing.

I tried to upgrade to nightly release (master) from 2024-06-03 and there is the
same issue. I also tried to open different session (no opened documents) and
the response of application didn't change much. Downgrading to 24.02 helped to
restore the previous performance.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Install Kate 24.05 and start the application
2. Create a new document (takes seconds)
3. Go to View -> Split View -> Split Vertical
4. Create a new document Cmd-N
5. Click into another split window and try to type (app is waiting and first
letters appear a few seconds later)
4. Save the document Cmd-S (it takes a few second to open save dialog)

OBSERVED RESULT
Kate application has to wait before a requested action is executed.

EXPECTED RESULT
Kate application almost instantly does what I request.

macOS: Sonoma 14.5

This is bugging me too. I would go even further and make this a wish: don't
show preview on hower, only on selection. It's very confusing to have a
selection that isn't preview, just because the mouse cursor moved a bit.

This could be made configurable: "Show Preview: Hover|Selection"

Hi Denis,

As your message is in French i continue in this language to be clear.

devenir fastidieux voir impossible. C'est comme tout, il y a des limites en
évitant de les franchir sous peine de payer le prix.
Toutefois, je tiens à vous féliciter pour le travail effectué. Bravo!
J'espère que je vous ai pas froissé et si non je suis désolé.
Denis.

I just made a change so that at least the face names are shown with a
background again, it should be in the next build for tomorrow.

We can't really do much here, it's a bug in Qt-6.7.0. It will be fixed with the
next version Qt-6.7.1, when it is available to us in VCPKG it will be back to
normal.

Hi there,

This is my first ever bug report on KDE.

I had opened Dolphin file browser, and hit space (habit from Microsoft Windows
to select the first time), and it crashed. I have now replicated this a few
times.

This is a nearly stock Fedora Workstation 40 install that I had just completed
a few hours ago. KDE Plasma 6. No custom tweaks. Have barely had a chance to
play with standard settings, and haven't modified anything related to the
Dolphin file browser.

I'd be happy to answer any more questions you may have.

Hope this helps!

Thank you.

The crash can be reproduced sometimes.

[plasmashell] [Bug 487905] Launching Elisa pinned icon fails with notification error

hiburin...@googlemail.com changed:

--- Comment #5 from hiburin...@googlemail.com ---
Hi there,

I have this exact problem, after upgrading 'elisa-24.02.2-1' to
'elisa-24.05.0-1'.
If I downgrade the package it works just fine.
Elisa does start from the task manager (pinned) for the first time, but not
thereafter. Running it from the terminal, or the
application-launcher works just fine.

I am not the best at this stuff, but journalctl gave me just this (after
pinning elisa to the task manager and launching):
>Jun 05 06:39:55 coffee-arch kded6[980]: Registering ":1.96/StatusNotifierItem"
>to system tray
>Jun 05 06:39:57 coffee-arch kded6[980]: Service ":1.96" unregistered

>"Could not find window id 0"
>Jun 05 06:40:39 coffee-arch plasmashell[1014]: error creating screencast
>"Could not find window id 0"
This comes up, when successfully starting it from the application-launcher:
>Jun 05 06:40:44 coffee-arch systemd[804]: Started Elisa - Music Player.
>Jun 05 06:40:44 coffee-arch elisa[7494]: org.kde.elisa.indexers.manager: Local

>Jun 05 06:40:44 coffee-arch elisa[7494]: Unsupported option 'locking_mode =

>Jun 05 06:40:44 coffee-arch elisa[7494]: org.kde.elisa.indexers.manager: Local
>file system indexer is active
>Jun 05 06:40:44 coffee-arch elisa[7494]: org.kde.elisa.indexers.manager:

>Jun 05 06:40:46 coffee-arch wireplumber[925]: wp-event-dispatcher:

>link failed: 1 of 1 PipeWire links failed to activate

I looked at dbus-monitor while opening elisa from task manager and from app
launcher, and I do not understand much of it, but the main difference was, that
almost all arrays/dict entries were empty, whereas the messages were way longer
when starting from app launcher. No obvious error messages that weren't also in
the app launcher log.

Maybe that could help someone.

[plasmashell] [Bug 488051] New: False layout causing overlapping

2024-06-04 Thread FileX
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=488051

Bug ID: 488051
   Summary: False layout causing overlapping
Classification: Plasma
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: master
  Platform: Kubuntu
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Keyboard Layout
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: filex.st...@proton.me
CC: butir...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: 1.0

SUMMARY
With Japanese (Mozc) and german layout, the wrong one is displayed and seems to
be used to convert input.
So, if I put in "Y" from an english layout keyboard on KDE Connect, Z is being
written on the computer.
This works fine with computer hardware when logged in, though in the login
screen it is the same as with KDE Connect.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Set the standard keyboard as input
2. Set the language layout order to German > Japanese
3. Log off and try to tzpe in password
3.2 Or input with KDE Connect

OBSERVED RESULT
Input made based on the english/japanese layout

EXPECTED RESULT
Displayed layout is used throughout KDE Connect and password input

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS:
Operating System: Kubuntu 24.10
KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.11
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.116.0
Qt Version: 5.15.13
Kernel Version: 6.8.0-31-generic (64-bit)

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
When focusing on an input field, the layout in the task bar switches to the
german one, no matter what it was before.
Seems to be the case since Kubuntu 24 (maybe also caused by switching to
wayland lately).

SUMMARY
Baloo doesn’t automatically update when tags or ratings are changed. They do
not update in the sidebar (you have to go into all tags and hit refresh), or
within tag fragments (you have to hit refresh). When viewing a directory, tags
and ratings also don't update in the info columns when they are altered, like
would be expected for any other kind of change like a rename or a file addition
or deletion.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Add a tag to a file

OBSERVED RESULT
The change won't be reflected in the sidebar, tag fragments, info columns in
viewed folder, or info panel. A refresh is required to see it.

EXPECTED RESULT
Change appears immediately just like any other change.

  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Plasma 6 has introduced the ability to reorder search results by plugin.
Unfortunately this is made near-useless by the fact that certain categories of
files are not able to be sorted and appear above your top categories. For
example, I put Applications first in my Favorite Plugins, but since I index my
home folder any time I search for an app it comes up with application config
files first.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Sort anything above File Search and make a file with the name of the thing
you want to search with a different plugin.
2. Search for that file

OBSERVED RESULT
The file appears first in the list instead of the plugin sorted to the top of
Favorite Plugins

EXPECTED RESULT
Either those categories of "Documents", "Images", "Folders" etc. are sorted as
instructed by placement of File Search plugin in in Favorite Plugins, or they
can appear as Available Plugins to be ordered themselves.

Alright some new information. It doesn't seem like it has much to do with

my kvm to another computer, it will automatically move all my inputs to the new
computer. Then when I come back to my machine running KDE, it bugs out.

2024-06-04 Thread bugzilla_noreply

Bug ID: 488045
Summary: Touch screen locks up within a handful of inputs
(Microsoft Surface Pro 7, NixOS)
Classification: Plasma
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 6.0.5
  Platform: NixOS
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: major
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Input Method
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: m1vri...@duck.com
CC: aleix...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: 1.0

SUMMARY
Touch screen stops working after just a few inputs. To fix this issue you must
use the mouse. I have had the issue with no apps open other than the desktop
and the widgets I have. It happens so often the touchscreen is unusable.

I think what is happening is that the touch input becomes “sticky”, with some
touches being held after you release your finger, or some sort of invisible
mouse cursor freezing. This get reset by mouse input. But it’s hard to tell
exactly what is going on.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=438551 looks similar but seems far less
severe and is reported as a Dolphin bug.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Use touchscreen for short amount of time. As far as I can tell any type of
touch input can randomly cause the bug, with no discernible pattern
2. Move or click mouse to reset the touchscreen.

OBSERVED RESULT
Touch screen stops receiving input or at least becomes so unresponsive so it
seems that way. Sometimes it seems like only the touch input for the window or
app you are using stops working but after a moment the whole touchscreen locks
up anyway, and I haven't been able to reproduce this.

EXPECTED RESULT

[plasmashell] [Bug 488042] New: Desktop freezes and can't click desktop icons or arrange icons when panel is not visible (dodge windows)

2024-06-04 Thread Juan
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=488042

Bug ID: 488042
Summary: Desktop freezes and can't click desktop icons or
arrange icons when panel is not visible (dodge
windows)
Classification: Plasma
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: master
  Platform: Arch Linux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Desktop Containment
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: juanrollgamer123456...@gmail.com
CC: notm...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: 1.0

SUMMARY
Desktop freezes and can't click desktop icons or arrange icons when panel is
not visible (dodge windows)

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Use default breeze bottom panel with "dodge windows" on
2. Go fullscreen in any app/game
3. Minimize app/game or switch to windowed mode
4: try to click in any icon on the desktop or re arrange it (for example,
Firefox) while the panel is still hidden

OBSERVED RESULT
When the panel is hidden when coming from a fullscreen game, the desktop
freezes and desktop shortcuts don't react at all at when clicking them with
your mouse or even tool-tips don't work when hovering over them. All of this is
fixed when the panel is shown when hovering over it with the mouse. I also
noticed notifications and any panel widget don't work during this process. For
example spotify doesn't play music during this freezing when it's minimized or
minimized to tray. Or bluetooth doesn't connect to air buds during this
freezing.

Basically the desktop freezes generally, until the panel is visible again

EXPECTED RESULT
Desktop works even when the panel is not visible, or always show panel when
there's no windows over it (That also might be a bug)

Frameworks Version: 6.2.0
Operating System: Linux 6.8.11-300.fc40.x86_64 x86_64
Windowing System: Wayland
Distribution: "Fedora Linux 40 (KDE Plasma)"
DrKonqi: 6.0.5 [CoredumpBackend]

-- Information about the crash:
Prior to a few hours ago, my computer was working just fine! All of a sudden, i
have "No space left on device". I do not know what caused this, and I infact do
have space left on my device. Quite a lot of space. I tried to remove files
anyway, which did not work. I have tried to search the internet for an answer,
and have found none. I tried looking at Inodes, they are not full, so that
can't be the problem. I tried restarting services, nothing. Restarting the box
did not fix anything. This has made my computer basically unusable, not a
single webpage will load in Firefox. I can not update dnf or flatpak. Steam
just refuses to open. I am completely clueless to what has happened to cause
such issues. My install of Fedora is quite old, ~1.5 years old, but I don't see
why now all of a sudden this is happening.

The crash can be reproduced every time.

[frameworks-baloo] [Bug 487916] Regressions in baloo in kf6 cause it to hog the machine

2024-06-04 Thread bugzilla_noreply

(In reply to Sergio from comment #4)
> ... The first time it was huge, after that first time it is about 5-10' ...
5 to 10 minutes (for baloo_file, not the heavier baloo_file_extractor) is way
more than expected...

It would be sensible to see whether you've indexed multiple copies of your
files (a hang over from the earlier problems with BTRFS), see if

baloosearch -i one-of-your-files.txt

give a single or multiple hits - where the '-i' lists the internal "Document
ID" that Baloo uses. If you get multiple hits, it would make sense to purge the
index and leave Baloo reindexing from scratch (when you have time!). Possible
that there are issues with BTRFS snapshots, make sure that you have the
snapshot directories excluded.

I remember someone posting that during the initial indexing, they placed the
index on /tmp (possibly in RAM). That would avoid contention on the disk. Of
course, this is the initial indexing not the scan done when you log on. Putting
a symlink in at

.local/shared/baloo

to a different location seems to work (but likely not recommended 8-). Beyond
that, I'm running out of ideas..

[systemsettings] [Bug 488040] New: nigthcolor fails after wine/proton programs are open

2024-06-04 Thread mox
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=488040

Bug ID: 488040
Summary: nigthcolor fails after wine/proton programs are open
Classification: Applications
   Product: systemsettings
   Version: 6.0.5
  Platform: Arch Linux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: minor
  Priority: NOR
 Component: kcm_nightcolor
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: n.sheib...@gmail.com
CC: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
If night color tries to change the color while a fullscreen wine/poroton
application is open, it fails in a way that results in the enable/disable
toggle in the widget to read Off/disabled, and the screen remaining full 6600K
color temperature. This persists though any settings changes in night light,
but does not persist through logout.

Still need to do some additional deliberate testing. Memory says this occurs
even if night light is set of 'off' in the widget toggle and the wine/proton
app is open. And that it does not occur when the wine/proton program is not
fullscreen. I suspect this may be more of a wine/proton-wayland support issue
than a night light issue.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Have a fullscreen wine program open
2. Have the scheduled night color shift occur while full screen

OBSERVED RESULT
The Off-On widget toggle fails to turn On. The options are Off-Disabled (or
something to that effect)

EXPECTED RESULT
Night night remains able to be toggled on and off with the widget.

If you phrase it like that, not with 6.0.5? The cursor is completely

SUMMARY
While navigating through system settings, some options take a noticeable amount
of time to open.

For example:
- In Windows Management, "Windows behaviour" and "Task Switcher" open fast,
while
- "Desktop effects" and "Kwin scripts" are two or three times slower

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Try on a clean Plasma 6 session
2. Open System Settings
3. Try to open different options. For example, the ones mentioned above.

OBSERVED RESULT
Some settings take quite longer than others to open giving a sense of lagging
to the user

EXPECTED RESULT
All settings should open fast and smoothly like in Plasma 5.x

I noticed this status is waiting for info. What info? Does it work with older
drivers? Yes. It's laggy and terrible but it will boot Plasma 6 in Wayland.
Tested on 530.

Let me restate a few important points:
This is the driver with explicit sync for Wayland.
This is the driver that every Nvidia GPU owner who want to play any game on
Linux will be using.
This is the driver that Plasma should be focused on working well with.
This driver works fine on the User version of KDE Neon.

[kdenlive] [Bug 488038] New: Glitchy audio when I try to revert audio that was previously reversed

2024-06-04 Thread Silas Henrique
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=488038

Bug ID: 488038
Summary: Glitchy audio when I try to revert audio that was
previously reversed
Classification: Applications
   Product: kdenlive
   Version: 24.05.0
  Platform: Arch Linux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: minor
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Effects & Transitions
  Assignee: j...@kdenlive.org
  Reporter: silas...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

A while ago I had taken some audio from my friends and used Kdenlive to turn
them backwards, as a joke.

But yesterday, when I tried to revert them again and get them back to normal,
it didn't work and Kdenlive only rendered noises.

The strangest thing is that when I try to reverse these audios using another
program, the audio is reversed correctly and I get the original audio. I tested
using the website https://audioalter.com/reverse

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Place any audio on the Kdenlive timeline

2. Under “change speed” check the “Reverse clip” box.

3. Render the audio as mp3. Works as expected. Let's call this file
reverted.mp3

4. Insert the reversed.mp3 file into kdenlive and try reversing it a second
time to get the original audio back.

5. Now the audio has become just noise. It's not just in preview, but when
rerendering as mp3 (like double-reverted.mp3) it still doesn't work.

6. The strangest thing is that there is nothing wrong with the first reversal.
If you take the reversed.mp3 file and try to reverse it again using another
program like https://audioalter.com/reverse it returns to the original audio
correctly.

I made an example video showing the problem, edited entirely in Kdenlive:

[valgrind] [Bug 487993] Alignment error when using Eigen with Valgrind and -m32

2024-06-04 Thread Paul Floyd
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=487993

I also get the assert on Fedora 40.

As a workaround you can use "--alignment=16".

However, I still don't quite understand what is happening. The operator new
that gets called is just plain bog standard operator new(size_t) - not the
aligned overload. That means Eigen::Affine3d doesn't have any alignment
specifier. Operator new just calls malloc. GNU libc has a complicated way of
setting the base alignment if malloc.

https://elixir.bootlin.com/glibc/glibc-2.39/source/sysdeps/generic/malloc-alignment.h

#define MALLOC_ALIGNMENT (2 * SIZE_SZ < __alignof__ (long double) \
  ? __alignof__ (long double) : 2 * SIZE_SZ)

long double is peculiar on x86. It's 10 bytes, its sizeof is 12 but its alignof
is 4. SIZE_SZ is sizof size_t, 4. 2*SIZE_SZ is not less than alignof long
double (4) so MALLOC_ALIGNMENT is 2*SIZE_SZ, or 8.

That is the same as what Valgrind uses.

The assert fires here

│ 101 template
│ 102 struct plain_array
│  103 {
│  104   EIGEN_ALIGN_TO_BOUNDARY(16) T array[Size];
│ 105
│ 106 EIGEN_DEVICE_FUNC
│  107   plain_array()
│  108   {
│  >   109 EIGEN_MAKE_UNALIGNED_ARRAY_ASSERT(15);
│  110 check_static_allocation_size();
│  111   }

Array is using some kind of alignas specifier, asking for 16 byte alignment.
Then the assert checks that it is 16 byte aligned.

But array (in Valgrind) is 8 byte aligned:
(gdb) p &array
$8 = (double (*)[16]) 0x45df258

plain_array is wrapped in several classes. I thought that alignment propagated
out from aggregate types.

If I add this

std::cout << "alignof Eigen::Affine3d " << alignof(Eigen::Affine3d) <<
'\n';

and it says

alignof Eigen::Affine3d 16

which is what I expected.

When I build with clang++ I see

│  121 operator new (std::size_t sz, std::align_val_t al)

So that explains why clang++ is working.

I need to look more at what libc is doing.

[kcalc] [Bug 488037] New: Can't use large numbers with delimiters to calculate

2024-06-04 Thread Marian
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=488037

Bug ID: 488037
Summary: Can't use large numbers with delimiters to calculate
Classification: Applications
   Product: kcalc
   Version: 24.05.0
  Platform: Manjaro
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: evan.te...@gmail.com
  Reporter: marian...@web.de
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

In 24.05.0 it's no longer possible for me to use a large pasted number with a
delimiter (a dot that seperates group of thousands) and use it for a
calculation. It produces an "input error". In previous versions KCalc was able
to use these numbers.

It doesn't even matter if the delimiter is a dot or a comma.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Copy a large number that has dots in it that seperate group of thousands,
like "2.560.275.623"
2. Paste it into KCalc
3. Divide by 1024

OBSERVED RESULT
KCalc says "input error"

EXPECTED RESULT
It should be able to calculate "2560275623 / 1024" and give "2500269,16309" as
a result, just like older versions of KCalc.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Manjaro
KDE Plasma Version: 6.0.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.2.0
Qt Version: 6.7.1

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
It used to work in older versions just fine!
