That would be the worst solution, any respected calculator I used have fonts
sizes to manage how buttons, result, history... Because the calculator has a
small interface that can be resized differently on various screens.

[frameworks-baloo] [Bug 388439] Find -> Filename - doesn't find anything in Dolphin

2024-07-06 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=388439

What's the state on this now?

I don't think Dolphin's behaviour has changed a lot - you do still have to be
careful and make sure you know if you are asking for a filename or a content
search, you sometimes have to refresh Dolphin's search results page as it can
show cached results and you generally need to type two or three characters
before you see results.

I think skierpage's summary in Comment 3 is still correct:

Baloo returns any exact matches it has if you do a single character search, not
treating the query as an "o*", but a for two characters a search for "or" or
treated as a search for "or*". This is for filenames, for content searches if
you type one or two characters you get the exact matches, you need to type 3
characters before you get a search for "org*"

Maybe it would, anyhow, the absolute best option in my opinion is being able to
manually rearrange the order and have the list be a way to sort the icons
*exclusively* in the entries list, I am genuinely completely confounded as to
why how it works now is even how it works? Like, maybe most people don't have
an opinion on it whatsoever, but I do personally think it would be an almost
objective improvement to be able to manually order the icons.

I have no idea how complicated icons you could drag would actually be, but even
just having the ability to change the order of the icons at all would be nice.
As far as I have seen for years, is that the answer is that you can't change
the order unless you change the names of the items and put them into different
groups, and I have no idea how somebody would even change this behavior. The
documentation regarding the system tray could maybe be more in depth or
something, I don't really know.

I know that you can change where the expander arrow is by modifying the
main.qml file and literally just moving it to load before the rest of the
icons, but I don't know how one would link this to a config, or make it able to
be modified without restarting the plasmashell. Currently I do this every
update because I like the arrow on the left rather than the right (it makes it
like a mini version of the menu and taskbar arrangement).

They are not, is the intended alignment (unless you mean they are not

At this point I am sure it is not a bug. I booted into another linux distro via
USB flash drive and had the same crash happen. I believe the culprit is the
BIOS settings related to CPU C-States. I have disabled the C-States and have
not experienced the crash happen since. Hopefully this helps someone in the
future. Thanks to those who responded to this report.

Applied yet another hacky fix to the syntax highlighting issue that keeps
cropping up with various combinations of unicode characters. Cross your

Also noticed a few other bugs happened to be fixed either by this change

We are not the creators of the digiKam Snap package. Report the problem to your
distribution's bug tracker.
Due to the limitations of the Snap package due to the sandbox function, we
strongly recommend using a different (native) package format than Snap or
Flatpak.

[kwin] [Bug 489854] New: Wayland crashing games and other apps

2024-07-06 Thread Tara
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=489854

Bug ID: 489854
Summary: Wayland crashing games and other apps
Classification: Plasma
   Product: kwin
   Version: 6.1.2
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: compositing
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: tarapicc...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

I know this is a bug, just not for what component. When playing games on Steam
and using the Wayland desktop, if i am recording my screen or streaming over
discord, after a minute or two the game, steam, and the recording app crashes.
I don't know how to obtain a crash report since no crash report dialog pops up,
and this involves multiple applications. I will provide the steps I know
reproduce it, and will specify the game I was trying to play. I am sure it has
nothing to do with the game, and X11 works perfectly, but lacks some of the
nice new features Wayland has.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Launch Vesktop (I use this one because screen-sharing with audio on linux)
2. Launch steam
3. Screenshare the whole desktop
4. Launch Resident Evil 7
5. Play for a minute
6. Everything crashes.

OBSERVED RESULT
Crashes - It specifically says wayland crashes

EXPECTED RESULT
No crashes.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Windows:
macOS:
Linux/KDE Plasma: Garuda
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version: 6.1.2
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.3.0
Qt Version: 6.7.2

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I don't know if this is a bug with Vesktop, Wayland, Plasma, or all of the
above. I get different behavior on X11 than on Wayland. I do know if i am not
recording the screen or sharing it, the game does not crash, however the FPS is
absolutely terrible in wayland.

SUMMARY:
When I lock and unlock the screen (KDE Plasma 6), KDE Connect sends the
clipboard content to the phone every time, I can see it from the pop-up
notification on the phone from the system. This problem occurs when the
"Automatically share the clipboard from this device" function is enabled in the
Clipboard settings.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Copy something text.
2. Lock your screen with Win+L.
3. Unlock the screen.

OBSERVED RESULT
Completing the second and third points will be accompanied by sending the

That merge will only fix the small font's size in the new editing zone, it has
nothing to do with how font labels look vertically misaligned in settings page.

Is an unintended side effect... I think the best solution would be to do
something as proposed in:

https://invent.kde.org/utilities/kcalc/-/merge_requests/21

to keep consistency with all modes... Those fields under the radio buttons are
way too small to be useful anyway and now that they are actually doing what
they were intended to do the flaw is now really notorious.

[installed,upgradable to: 6.1.2-0xneon+22.04+jammy+release+build44]

I'll update from Discover, which has the same three packages seen in apt.

[plasmashell] [Bug 488947] Plasmashell immediately crashes when you have the wrong version of KWayland installed

2024-07-06 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=488947

I learned how to read a backtrace, and completely resolved my issue!

--> tl;dr it's my fault, my kwayland was out of date... <--

The long version: over a year ago, I experimented with KWinFT, which required
installing the git version of kwayland from the AUR, kwayland-git.

*-git packages are special, because the onus falls on users to rerun
installation after a version bump. (The AUR makes way more sense to me now.
Bumps don't come from nowhere!)

Fast-foward to the present, and I'm trying to find
"wayland-plasma-window-management-client-protocol.h" from the backtrace. I
attempt to build plasma-workspace for myself, and receive the error:

`Could not find a configuration file for package "KWayland" that is compatible
with requested version`

Looking through the partially-completed build, I don't spot my desired file. So
I double-check my installed kwayland version, and... yep!

I've changed the title of this bug report. Original title: "Plasmashell
immediately crashes on Wayland+NVIDIA"

Here's the guide that taught me how to read a KCrash backtrace:
