[kdenlive] [Bug 473741] New: Complex scripts (e.g. Bengali) added through Kdenlive subtitle tool render incorrectly

2023-08-24 Thread Alif
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=473741

Bug ID: 473741
Summary: Complex scripts (e.g. Bengali) added through Kdenlive
subtitle tool render incorrectly
Classification: Applications
   Product: kdenlive
   Version: 23.04.3
  Platform: unspecified
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Effects & Transitions
  Assignee: j...@kdenlive.org
  Reporter: abdunnafia...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
If I add Bengali text as subtitle it renders incorrectly. The diacritics do not
connect with the letter in their correct place; rather they show up after the
letter like a separate character. And also conjunt letters do not form. Which
means it's impossible to add Bengali subtitles through Kdenlive subtitle tool.
I tested with the Appimage and Flatpak version.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Add subtitles using Kdenlive subtitle tool
2. Add some Bengali text in the subtitles.
3. Check the video preview

OBSERVED RESULT
The Bengali text is broken.

EXPECTED RESULT
The diacritics and conjuncts should render correctly.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux: Fedora 38 workstation Gnome

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Bengali text looks fine if I add them through title clip. But that's not a good
way to add subtitles.

The candidate window does follow the insertion pointer for some apps. (Check my
previous comment in this bug_report.) And does not follow the insertion pointer
for some other apps. The issue is still not resolved completely.

(In reply to Nate Graham from comment #1)
> Is this still happening to you in Plasma 5.21?

It is happening to me too.

SUMMARY
When logged in with wayland, ibus candidate selection window does not follow
the insertion pointer for some apps and does follow for some others. For
example; the selection window does follow the insertion pointer for Discord,
Google Chrome, OnlyOffice etc; but does not follow for LibreOffice, Firefox,
Telegram etc. It works as expected in Gnome for both X11 and Wayland but on
Plasma it works only on X11.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Log in with wayland
2. Type with an ibus input method which uses candidate selection window; such
as: typing booster.
3. Notice that the candidate selection window is either at the top left or at
its last used position.

OBSERVED RESULT
The candidate selection window does not follow the insertion pointer (the
position the user is typing at) for all apps.

EXPECTED RESULT
The candidate selection window should follow the insertion pointer for all
apps.

I don't know but idletime detection works on Gnome with Gnome's 'Break Timer'.
So, there ofcourse is a way to detect idletime on Wayland.

Bug ID: 473200
Summary: RSI break thinks I'm never idle even if I don't touch
the keyboard or touchpad
Classification: Applications
   Product: rsibreak
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Fedora RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: critical
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: aa...@kde.org
  Reporter: abdunnafia...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
When a break starts the break will never end because RSI break always registers
that the computer is not idle.

***
NOTE: If you are reporting a crash, please try to attach a backtrace with debug
symbols.
See
https://community.kde.org/Guidelines_and_HOWTOs/Debugging/How_to_create_useful_crash_reports
***

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Log in with wayland
2. Start RSI break
3. Notice that the app is never registering an idle time. Even if you don't
touch your PC it will still register you are doing some activity.

OBSERVED RESULT
When a break starts the break will never end because it always registers that
the computer is not idle.

EXPECTED RESULT
If the user stops touching the keyboard and touchpad, it should register it as
idle time.
