[plasmashell] [Bug 488601] New: “Minimize all windows” is not available in screen edges

2024-06-16 Thread Archisman Panigrahi
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=488601

Bug ID: 488601
Summary: “Minimize all windows” is not available in screen
edges
Classification: Plasma
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 6.0.5
  Platform: Arch Linux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Show Desktop/Minimize All
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: apanda...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: 1.0

SUMMARY
"Minimize all windows" is not available in screen edges. While "Peek at
Desktop" is available, that un-minimizes and shows all the open apps when I
open a single app. I want to open a single app after minimizing all apps using
screen edges. This is the default behavior in Microsoft Windows as well as in
Cinnamon desktop.

Note that "Minimize all Windows" is available as an alternative behavior in the
"peek at desktop" panel button, but I want to enable this as a screen edge
behavior.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Enable screen edges and turn on "Peek at Desktop"
2. After activating this screen edge (which has minimized the windows), open
any app

OBSERVED RESULT
All other apps are also opened.

EXPECTED RESULT
I want the app I opened to be shown, and don't want all other apps to
un-minimize. This is the default behavior in Windows and Cinnamon.

Can we somehow make a special case like the following pseodocode?

if (translation provided == "ADF Duplex")
return "Scan both sides (ADF Duplex)"
end

This will really improve the out-of-the box scanning experience a lot, and this
will help the whole GNU/Linux ecosystem, not just KDE.

It was a departmental scanner, which I needed to use at some event, but I don't
have access to it right now. However, most likely it would work with ADF
Duplex.

Can we rename "ADF Duplex" to either "Scan both sides" or "Scan both sides (ADF
Duplex)"?

Since users may be using a particular scanner for the first time (like me), and
they may not have time to figure out what ADF Duplex means, it would be very
helpful if a non technical word like "Scan both sides" is used.

I am a PhD student, and I had to scan hundreds of exam papers last week. There
was no time to figure out what ADF Duplex means. I finally had to use a
friend's Windows computer.

Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal

  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

Some scanners can simultaneously scan both sides of a page (e.g. ScanSnap
iX1600). However, in those scanners, Skanpage only scans one side of the pages.
It will be very convenient if there is an option to scan both sides of a page
simultaneously.

GNOME's simple-scan has such an option in its settings, so I guess the driver
backend already works.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
Try to find an option to enable scanning both sides. There is none.

OBSERVED RESULT
No way to scan both sides of a pages

EXPECTED RESULT
There should be a way to configure scanning both sides of a page.

SUMMARY

Keyboard backlight is usually unnecessary during daytime.
I propose that the night color mode gets an option to automatically turn on the

But everything (both icons and widgets) is getting back to their proper

SUMMARY

I have a convertible laptop that supports automatic screen rotation (Plasma
5.27.9, Arch Linux).

After rotating the screen from horizontal (normal) → vertical → horizontal, all
my desktop widgets move to the left part of the screen, since the intermediate
vertical orientation had less width.

I want the widgets to remember their initial positions when the screen was
horizontal, after the orientation changes back to horizontal.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Place some widgets (like weather, color picker, sticky notes, etc.) on the
screen.
2. In a laptop/tablet that supports screen rotation, rotate the screen from
horizontal (initial orientation) -> vertical -> back to horizontal.

OBSERVED RESULT
Observe that all the widgets have lost their positions.

EXPECTED RESULT
Widgets should be restored to their initial position when the screen is back to
its initial orientation (horizontal), even though the widget positions changed
in the positions in the intermediate vertical position.

SUMMARY
***
I am using KDE Plasma on a laptop with a keyboard that can be flipped. The
physical keyboard gets disabled in the tablet mode (when the keyboard is
folded). However, while the keyboard is disabled in the tablet mode, the
touchpad below the keyboard is not disabled, and it receives accidental touch
events as my fingers fall on the touchpad.
Tablet mode should also disable the touchpad input, so that it does not receive
accidental touch events.
***

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Enable tablet mode by flipping the keyboard on a touch screen laptop

OBSERVED RESULT
In the tablet mode, the touchpad still registers touch events, while the
keyboard is disabled.

EXPECTED RESULT
The touchpad should also be disabled in the tablet mode, so that it does not
receive accidental input, which causes the mouse cursor to move randomly.

There is an existing reddit post about that
https://www.reddit.com/r/kde/comments/mwnqfc/laptop_users_do_you_enable_tap_to_click_on/.
There is about 5:1 ratio in favor of enabling tap-to-click (1K vs 186, as of

Otherwise, please create a new "official" polling thread in Reddit/KDE

then please let's accept the majority decision, whatever it will be.

SUMMARY

When I pinch to zoom on a touch screen, Okular zooms to the center of the page.
I expect it to zoom to the portion of the page where I initially placed my
finger.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

SUMMARY
Using Pinch to Zoom with two fingers on a touch screen computer changes the
page number of the document in addition to zooming. This happens for both
Zooming in and Zooming out.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open a PDF/DJVU/any other document (with multiple pages) in Okular on a

using touch screen.

Bug ID: 469327
Summary: Kamoso should rotate the camera when the screen
rotates in tablet mode
Classification: Applications
   Product: kamoso
   Version: 22.12.3
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: aleix...@kde.org
  Reporter: apanda...@gmail.com

NOTE: If you are reporting a crash, please try to attach a backtrace with debug

***
I have a touch screen laptop (HP x360 14a chromebook (blooguard)) running
Kubuntu 23.04. The keyboard can be flipped, and the laptop automatically moves
into tablet mode. In the tablet mode, the screen automatically rotates (and
changes orientation) if I rotate the laptop, but the camera does not rotate.

In ChromeOS (which I am dual booting with Kubuntu), the camera also rotates if
I rotate the screen.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
Rotate the screen in a touch screen laptop running KDE Plasma in tablet-mode.

OBSERVED RESULT
The camera output does not rotate.

EXPECTED RESULT
The camera output in apps like Kamoso should rotate when the screen
auto-rotates.

How do you change this height? I could not find a file named
waylandinterface.cpp

This bug in X.Org is still there. Latte is set to "Dodge active windows", but
it behaves as "Always visible".

[kalzium] [Bug 434219] New: Kalzium should mention units of half lives

2021-03-09 Thread Archisman Panigrahi
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=434219

Bug ID: 434219
Summary: Kalzium should mention units of half lives
   Product: kalzium
   Version: 20.12.3
  Platform: Neon Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: kalz...@kde.org
  Reporter: apanda...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
When one opens the list of "isotopes", Kalzium should show the units of half
life. User may be confused whether it is in seconds (SI units) or in years
(popular unit of half life).

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Click on any element, e.g. Zinc
2. Click on Isotopes
3. Look at half lives. Unit is not mentioned.

OBSERVED RESULT
Kalzium shows some numbers as half lives of the isotopes, but does not mention
whether it is in seconds or years.

EXPECTED RESULT
Kalzium should show the units of half lives.
After comparing the numbers with results from the internet, I realized that it
is in seconds. But Kalzium should mention that, so that users don't have to
browse internet to double check.

Similar issue happens for xournalpp 1.1.0+dev version
(https://github.com/xournalpp/xournalpp/)

After upgrading to Plasma 5.21 (in KDE Neon User Edition), the application
fails to launch from Latte Dock, showing the error "For security reasons,
launching executables is not allowed in this context".

Also, when I open the .desktop file, the xournalpp does open. However, the icon
in Latte is different from what is shown in the .desktop file.

I believe this should not be marked as resolved until this feature is
implemented in poppler, and Okular supports it. Lots of passport/government
applications require one to fill up XFA forms.
