[kio-gdrive] [Bug 486576] Cannot log into Google account with two factor authentication enabled
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=486576 --- Comment #3 from Edmund Laugasson --- This is possibly another issue but with that non-2FA account, where I could log in - there I could create a folder via Dolphin but could not create a file directly in Google Drive via Dolphin or upload any file form computer. Even it shows file is uploaded, the file is not visible in Dolphin (even with refresh, also with CTRL+F5) and also in web interface of Google Drive there is no file uploaded. I tried to upload *.odt file. But tried with *.txt and then succeeded to upload. If only *.txt is allowed, then this is very limited :( -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[kio-gdrive] [Bug 486576] Cannot log into Google account with two factor authentication enabled
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=486576 Edmund Laugasson changed: What|Removed |Added Resolution|WAITINGFORINFO |--- Ever confirmed|0 |1 Status|NEEDSINFO |REOPENED --- Comment #2 from Edmund Laugasson --- (In reply to Justin Zobel from comment #1) > By two factor authentication do you mean a One Time Password or the > authentication that's done via a device such as a phone where it prompts you > to confirm that it is you signing in? via device > I've just been able to add my Google Account to Online Accounts using the > second method. To be honest, Online Accounts does not even reach to second factor. The error message, which screenshot I added, will appear right after email is entered and Next clicked. I do frequent, usually every day updates and tried again after fresh updates (which didn't update any KDE part) and still same issue. Although I use 24.02.2 version (https://archlinux.org/packages/extra/x86_64/kio-gdrive/), there is 24.04.80 waiting in KDE unstable (https://archlinux.org/packages/kde-unstable/x86_64/kio-gdrive/). Reason is here - https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/185833?hl=en If you’ve set up 2-Step Verification but can’t find the option to add an app password, it might be because: Your Google Account has 2-Step Verification set up only for security keys. You’re logged into a work, school, or another organization account. Your Google Account has Advanced Protection. Advanced Protection https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/7539956 With 2-Step Verification, the second step could be a: Prompt sent to your phone Verification code Security key I'm using Prompt and Verification code. Also there is written: Also, Advanced Protection limits third-party app access to your data, puts stronger checks on suspicious downloads, and tightens account recovery security to help prevent unauthorized access. This is the case. This Advanced Protection is very common - widely used and this does not allow to create app password e.g. for KDE Online Accounts. I have also another GMail account, which does not have 2FA enabled and there I could reach to password field and could log in and add account. Even it required for security reasons SMS-confirmation and sent me SMS and I could even enter confirmation code and it logged in. But no 2FA is enabled with that account. But with account, where 2FA is enabled, I cannot login. Although I have 14 third party app enabled and in that sense I'm using already that 2FA enabled Google account with 3rd party apps like KDE Online Accounts also is as I see under that non-2FA Google account, where I could log in. With that experiment I showed clearly, that 2FA is preventing to use KDE Online Accounts. Also as referred upwards, Google itself confirms, that when Advanced Protection by 2FA (Prompt sent to your phone, Verification code) is enabled, then Advanced Protection limits third-party app access to your data, puts stronger checks on suspicious downloads, and tightens account recovery security to help prevent unauthorized access. So, I experience that limitation as I don't see any way to allow KDE Online Accounts to be used while 2FA (Advanced Protection) is enabled. OAuth2 seems to be in use - https://developers.google.com/identity/account-linking/oauth-linking Why do you change importance to normal when this issue is still critical as there is not possible to log in? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

So PNG is really emergency workaround. Then please allow to save directly to SVG, then we will not use PNG or any other raster graphics format anymore. There could be also choices, e.g. choose image format and its parameters, e.g. compression (PNG), quality (JPG), SVG, TIFF, WebP, FLIF, etc according chosen image format. Also nowadays modern image formats could be supported, e.g. https://ezgif.com/help/alternative-animated-image-formats - there could be one animated image, that contains images from pages in PDF. Also crop feature would be appreciated. Sometimes there would be useful to crop from edges certain distance. Also separate crop parameters per odd and even pages would be useful. Sometimes also certain pages needs to be excluded. I guess printing dialog could be used as a basis of export to images dialog. Also choosing, whether every page will be separate image or there will be one large image containing all pages. Also file naming scheme would be useful to choose during export - possibly you can use some components from KRename for that. Also putting page number or number/numbers to defined location on image. Also an option if there is no wallet or similar, also allow specify SSH private key password per key and store in strong encrypted way. There could be also, that if to leave password field empty and also not specify SSH key, then user keys from ~/-ssh/ are used and also SSH key agent, which keeps SSH private key password. In KDE usually all apps can use default folder with SSH keys and password stored by SSH agent. But there might be issues if there are more SSH keys - so manually specifying proper SSH key and its password per key. When there are more keys - they all might have own password, that might be different from current one. Also password management inside Krusader should work then. Actually noticed, that KWallet did not store password from Krusader. Could not identify any password in KWallet as belonging to Krusader. All credentials management should be very clear. [plasmashell] [Bug 445503] "Configure Desktop and Wallpaper..." dialog at wallpaper section is empty
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=445503 --- Comment #12 from Edmund Laugasson --- You as a developer possibly know, which component is binded with which app. But most users and admins do not know that, at least not in complete extent. We may know some components, but not all of them. Therefore it is solely on developer's duty to pay enough attention during upgrade, when restarting plasmashell, logging off or even rebooting is necessary. To be honest, it isn't very hard to announce it in a noticeable way, so it won't be missed. E.g. in EndeavourOS there will be always message on CLI and if in GUI, pop-up says, that rebooting necessary. Such messaging isn't hard but would help avoid lots of troubles unless user, admin understands, that rerunning plasmashell, relogin or reboot is necessary. You may imagine, that people work with Linux and sometimes lots of apps, files are opened. Doing reboot after every small update is not appropriate and makes Linux even worse than MS Windows, that requires reboot after software update, upgrade. In Linux most cases we do not need reboot. Quite often just rerunning plasmashell would help. Certainly I need save work beforehand, if it will close any app, which I don't know. Even closing apps and reopening them after rerunning plasmashell would work much faster, than rebooting all the time. You may imagine, that people use also filesystem encryption and perhaps some integration between PAM and KWallet, at least I do. So rebooting and re-entering encryption, PAM passwords takes much longer than just saving work and closing apps, rerunning plasmashell and reopening apps. E.g. ProtonMail Bridge is quite reluctant and requires separate approach (pass CLI app for GPG-key) and does not work via KWallet. So I need re-enter all these credentials, when rebooting or even relogin. Again - saving work, rerunning plasmashell or GUI effects (kwin_x11) is very often much faster than rebooting. Quite often I don't even need to close all apps but some of them. I try to watch, what apps will be updated and will save work, close only these. Besides, I never ignore the message, that says me to do reboot or relogin or whatever else is needed to do. I can confirm, that no message did not appear at the time I made current report and that was main reason for my reporting. As mentioned, rerunning plasmashell solved issue and no reboot was necessary. To be honest, Linux is not Windows, that we need to reboot all the time. If you just ignore my report and do not announce reboot, even if it is necessary, then you are making KDE usage experience worse. People might even start thinking over Linux in general not good. If the announcement appears on CLI among other output, that quickly flows away, then it is not a proper way to communicate as it is very hard to notice among other text output at CLI the message, that I need to reboot. As I use EndeavourOS, which updates quite often software, I do also quite often reboots. New kernel, init, other system components diligently tell me to do reboot and I never ignore it. Usually I check the list of packages, that will be updated and usually when I see kernel, init, etc system components in that updates list; I already start closing all apps, virtual machines, etc and saving work if needed to prepare for reboot. If I notice e.g. Electron framework will be updated - I close all apps I know, are using that framework. Then I don't need to close all apps and reboot. Just reopening updated apps would be enough EndeavourOS announces via eos-update-notifier app the GUI pop-up about the need of reboot and it is very well visible. I've used libnotify my own to announce critical messages for users. I've used update scripts via CRON and used such messaging. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=445503 --- Comment #10 from Edmund Laugasson --- Usually there will be a message if really reboot is required. I kindly ask developers use messaging system in order to ensure proper software installation. In other hands - rebooting after every update sounds not appropriate (like in MS Windows already). Quite often updates are so small, that rebooting is irrelevant. Only developers know, when rebooting is appropriate. Therefore developers should carefully analyze, whether rebooting is necessary or not. The current case, why this report has made, developers forgot to require at least run plasmashell --replace or log off or reboot. Also there could be a message, that either run plasmashell --replace or log off or reboot. Then user will know, what options are required after current updates. Therefore I would not say, that "not a bug" as proper communication was missing between user, who updated software and developers. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[plasmashell] [Bug 445503] "Configure Desktop and Wallpaper..." dialog at wallpaper section is empty
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=445503 --- Comment #8 from Edmund Laugasson --- As already mentioned on 2021-11-15, running plasmashell --replace after update solved the issue. Sometimes possibly also kwin_x11 --replace helps in addition. There might be important to ensure these commands are executed in proper order. Sometimes I've needed to rerun plasmashell --replace after the kwin11_x11 --replace. Just a suggestion: run one or both commands automatically after KDE components upgrade. I would ask feedback from KDE developers about this idea, whether it would be suitable or not. [Spectacle] [Bug 443060] Feature request: sequential screenshots (configurable)
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=443060 Edmund Laugasson changed: What|Removed |Added Resolution|WAITINGFORINFO |--- Ever confirmed|1 |0 Status|NEEDSINFO |REPORTED --- Comment #10 from Edmund Laugasson --- I actually provided that additional information. Meta+SHIFT+PrintScreen is actually making screenshot of rectangular area and does not work automatically, but needs manual area selection beforehand. I guess just plain PrintScreen, that invokes Spectacle, allows to also the same. When choosing settings and pressing PrintScreen again, while Spectacle is open, it takes already screenshot according chosen settings. Now we need just add ability to automatically save, while pressing PrintScreen. Actually that setting already exist in Spectacle, there is already possible to set, that screenshot will be saved automatically but not always. Although I cannot see screenshots in Spectacle's UI, these can be seen in stored folder. The only wish could be, that in case of selected rectangular area, this could be also automatically saved. Currently could not determine such setting. I noticed rectangular area settings in Spectacle, but such option was missing, like save automatically in case of rectangular area. Hereby I propose to create such setting. Other choices, than rectangular area already allow to capture screenshot without user intervention. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

Then I could run it with LC_ALL=C parameter beforehand to get an English version of appropriate screenshot. I tested systemsettings5, kcmshell5, plasmawindowed commands, tried to combine different modules, commands, etc. Also investigated qdbus org.kde.plasmashell /PlasmaShell options, but did not succeed. I figured out one script for plasmashell to change wallpaper directly (which was useless as easier plasma-apply-wallpaperimage command exist), but to invoke that dialog window directly still not succeeded. I could invoke screenlocker module via systemsettings5 or kcmshell5, which looks very similar, but it is about screen locking and not wallpaper itself. Also tried to investigate KDE, Arch Linux documentation and rest of internet search about that, did not succeed. This all was an eye-opening experience, but still did not get direct command to invoke appropriate dialog window. [Spectacle] [Bug 443060] Feature request: sequential screenshots (configurable)
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=443060 --- Comment #7 from Edmund Laugasson --- > Can't you already pretty much get the behavior you want by pressing > Meta+Shift+PrintScreen? Assuming, that Meta is Super-key, this even worked. But it asks every time to draw me a rectangle on screen, what to save. I meant repeat last screenshot with previous settings in case on certain area quickly appearing, what I need to capture onto image and then I could continuously press certain shortcut key in order to catch that moment. Also current behaviour is useful for certain situations, where I want to define the area in first place and then capture it. This screenshot storing has not to be as tab immediately. These screenshots could be under certain button, that in turn could open additional pop-up to browse those screenshots if there are many of them already. But as current UI has been chosen so, that it is like pop-up window and not regular application window, then yes - it is a bit challenging to achieve same UI with pop-up as with normal app window. I compared it with Shutter app window, where there is normal app window and not pop-up one. There is easy to have tabs but also in case of many screenshots it could be a bit challenging to scroll all these screenshots as each screenshot means one tab. Luckily there will be not so many screenshots, that it would be too overwhelming to scroll these tabs. Also in case on Spectacle the current behavior is satisfactory to have screenshots in Pictures folder, or whatever else the echo $(xdg-user-dir PICTURES) output is (more information at man xdg-user-dir). So, current choices are either use that pretty cool shortcut key META+SHIFT+PrintScreen (usually META is actually Super-key) or install Shutter (GTK app) and use it, where are tabs and rest of bells and whistles. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=442784 --- Comment #8 from Edmund Laugasson --- Thank you, I appreciate your efforts! This is definitely useful. But sometimes it is not possible to know, what area to select. E.g. I try to get screenshot from certain dialog or part of it, that will appear quickly into unpredictable place on screen. Then I would like to take even several screenshots but Spectacle keeps only one screenshot :( Also in case, where certain process is going on quite quickly that cannot be paused (e.g. installation) and I would like to take series of screenshots but I can't, as Spectacle keeps only one screenshot. [Spectacle] [Bug 442784] feature request: Copy Image from Clipboard, also drag and drop external image into Spectacle
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=442784 --- Comment #6 from Edmund Laugasson --- I try to cope. I know the Linux philosophy about single purpose functionality. But just jumping between apps becomes overwhelming at some point, if you need do lots of screenshots and crop them. As currently it is needed to crop in external program, then getting cropped image back into Spectacle for annotations is tricky. This is why current issue was reported. It is just regular screenshotting tool workflow: create screenshot, crop, annotate, save or export to another app. Also repeat last screenshot. Nothing extra, which is inherent to more sophisticated graphics apps. Certainly it's your decision and actually I respect it, just described the screenshotting workflow, where two features are missing. If we could crop (#430465), then we could even survive without current Copy Image from Clipboard feature. Just the complexity to get cropped image back to Spectacle is overwhelming especially in case of preparing teaching materials, where is need to create lot of screenshots quickly. I'd you need do only few screenshots, then it might not be an issue. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[Spectacle] [Bug 442784] feature request: Copy Image from Clipboard, also drag and drop external image into Spectacle
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=442784 --- Comment #4 from Edmund Laugasson --- It seems that it is your way to "develop" app. I use screenshot tool Shutter then, which has that simple functionality. Sorry. Perhaps it was mistake to start use KDE - apps have missing functionality (Spectacle isn't the only one) and developers find excuses and refuse proposals. [Skanlite] [Bug 299517] Skanlite should support scan to pdf.
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=299517 --- Comment #36 from Edmund Laugasson --- > I agree: if "Gnome" can do it with simple-scan, "KDE" should be able to do it > with skanlite too... Not at all. Just simple-scan is currently nowadays program, what we can use. It has very few dependencies, therefore could be used also with KDE. It could be any other FLOSS program, if it does scan to PDF, including multipage PDF. It is just usual need for everydays life to use PDF-files rather than image files, especially in case of multiple pages. It would be impractical to use multiple image files instead of one PDF-file. Also using PDF gives appropriate page format for printing. Having just image file makes it harder to print. Also harder to understand, how image fits onto A4 or whatever format would be used. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[Spectacle] [Bug 442784] feature request: Copy Image from Clipboard, also drag and drop external image into Spectacle
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=442784 Edmund Laugasson changed: What|Removed |Added Resolution|INTENTIONAL |--- Ever confirmed|0 |1 Status|RESOLVED|REOPENED --- Comment #2 from Edmund Laugasson --- > It seems like you're trying to work around the lack of Bug 430465. That's true: 430465 and current 442784 is two small but crucial features, that are missing from nowadays screenshot tool. So I finally bothered myself and reported them. > If we had that, you might not feel the need for this. If we had these functionalities, certainly I would not ask them, what we already have. But we don't have these in Spectacle and therefore I report them. > Spectacle isn't trying to be a general-purpose image editing tool That's true - Spectacle is far from image editing tool, even in general purpose. We have GIMP, Inkscape, etc for that. Spectacle is above all, screenshotting tool. > so overall I don't think letting people open existing images with it would > make sense. It makes very much sense, if you are making screenshots. Quite often there could be copied any image and then there is a need to add e.g. steps onto it. For that, Spectacle has great feature. E.g. ICT teachers, like me, use that feature often, who prepare step-by-step tutorials. > There are other better image editing apps for that. Yes, as mentioned, GIMP, Inkscape, etc are these. But Shutter is great screenshotting tool, what Spectacle also could be, if to add those two small, but crucial features: * crop feature in annotation tool; * Copy Image from Clipboard, also drag and drop external image into Spectacle; These small but crucial features doesn't make Spectacle anything, but still screenshot tool. Currently is very annoying to open GIMP (or whatever else) for cropping. Then getting image back to Spectacle is restricted due to inability to Copy Image from Clipboard (this is yet another scenario, why it would be useful). As we know, GIMP is quite heavy program compared with Spectacle. Also is quite annoying to open image and make screenshot in first place - it would be much more logical to just drag-and-drop the image into Spectacle. Then it happens, that I use something else, than Spectacle in order to achieve that smooth workflow. But this isn't what probably Spectacle's developers expect. Currently Spectacle could be replacement of Shutter under KDE, if those two small, but crucial features could be implemented. Besides, Shutter is free and open-source software, it would be easy to look its source code (https://github.com/shutter-project/shutter) and copy its functionalities into Spectacle with appropriate adaption. Besides, similar situation is with Skanlite - it lacks of scanning into PDF, including multipage PDF - https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=299517 - it is reported already in 2012 - soon becomes 10 years already... Let's hope, that with Spectacle goes better. Besides, I was therefore forced to install Gtk-based Simple Scan (https://apps.gnome.org/et/app/simple-scan/) in KDE, where that scan to PDF, including multipage PDF is already implemented. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
